I'm getting a Inc 2 as an insurance replacement for a Droid X2 that has been nothing but total hell!
I can't stand the vertical unlock / answer screen used on HTC devices. I had an Eris a few years back and had issues with pocket answering when the phone was in my pocket and I'd pull the phone out and the friction against my leg pulled the slider down and answered the call whether I wanted it or not.
Is it possible to install CM7 (with root and s-off) so I get the standard Google horizontal slider for answering and unlocking. But port over the Camera/Camcorder app (Need access to the front camera for video recording and any mic settings) and the FM Radio app?
you can use any rom and don't need root really for what you're asking...
just get widget locker...
also, on a side note, this is not a development question and belongs in the general forum.
CM7 has an FM radio app, and also works with the front camera just fine.

Firstly, questions don't belong in the dev forum, they belong in the general one.
But to answer your question, as long as your replacement Inc2 has Froyo, you can root/S-OFF. From there, you can either remove the sense lockscreen, or install CM7 (and choose the standard slider unlock). You can't use any of the HTC apps under CM7 as they require the HTC framework. But CM7 has working FM radio and front camera so it's pretty much a non-issue

I'm not sure I totally understand your question, but here goes a try. If you install CM7 you have a choice of what lock screen to use. The choices are:
Sliding Tab: http://i.imgur.com/PkDvY.png
Rotary:http://i.imgur.com/k0o9j.png
Rotary Revamped (looks the same as Rotary): http://i.imgur.com/fWm3v.png
Lense (which unlocks vertically): http://i.imgur.com/lpBO4.png
That said, there are also a variety of apps in the market that can modify your lockscreen without root.
As far as the camera/camcorder. You cannot "port" the HTC Sense camera to the CM7 AOSP system, but CM7 has it's own camera and camcorder that work great and use either the front or rear camera.
And lastly CM7 comes installed with a FM radio app.
Ok thank you! Sorry for posting in the wrong board. Didn't know which one exactly. Can I remove the lock/answer screen with root but without a rom? Not using Widget Locker as that doesn't overwrite the answer screen.

Does the CM7 rom allow change to the camcorder mics? Like if I'm recording a concert and don't want any noise or distortion? For that matter does the HTC one offer that either.

Nor possible without extensive mod. You need a new bluetooth stack as far as I know. CM6 does support the 8 megapixel camera.

When running CM6 click the gear looking icon in the menu strip, it will pop out a scrollable menu including options to choose resolution. There was one or maybe two nightly builds where it lost the 8mp setting, but it was back a day later. Also that is in the nature of nightly builds, they are made for the developer to test things, not really for users. All the other nightlies and the RC support 8mp.

Somewhere???
Forgive the noob question, but it's pretty on-topic (even if the thread is on the wrong boards )... Could a custom kernel swap the BT stack being used w/a Sense ROM or is part of it still largely dependent on the ROM itself? I noticed that Damage made some note of using part of Cyanogen's BT code in the kernel they were working with for their Froyo Sense ROM (beta 3.5, prior to Sprint/HTC's official announcement, who knows what'll happen now). Just exploring some possibilities, I'm a noob when it comes to Android's inner-workings.

As you can see (After it loads) the screenshot does not even get the entire image as it does not scroll sideways, this is an image using the CM6 RC.
As you can see the image quality is great (terrible focus right now though), but the image quality when you get the focus right is spot on.

I think we'll see an update, just not the full feature update. Same as the Nexus 1
I think the 3D tilt view will not be fully supported on the Desire/N1 due to the multi-touch issue. The main thing is the offline caching and we will get it.
Ye only thing is the multitouch bug that will make some of the tilting quite difficult.
Yes the Nexus one and the Desire have a poor Touch Panel, so altho it will get Google maps 5 You won't be able to rotate the Maps with a gesture (Although it SHOULD be able to do a pivot gesture according to its specification), The Droid incredible has a different Touch panel, which although still only Dual touch, handles that gesture fine without buggyness.
There is no "multitouch bug", the Desire supports pinch to zoom, not multitouch.
Working as designed.

As you said 3 posts up, the Droid has a different touch panel and has more features. Its not a bug, its a limitation. The panel does as it was advertised to do...pinch gestures.
Yes, the axes swap and the points stick together when on close x or y, but this doesn't stop it from doing its job, pinch gestures work fine with these limitations, therefore, not a bug.
The only advertised feature is pinch to zoom, which is working as designed.
Calling the lack of multitouch support a bug is the as same as calling the lack of face camera a bug... ;-)

But as I said in the same post, The touch panel in the desire is advertised to be able to do the gestures needed (both Pivot and rotate) and to close proximity, the phone is incapable of doing these and exhibits strange behaviours when you do them, thats bugginess to me, at worst its a defect, not a limitation.

Its not working as designed, it was designed to do more, it cant for one reason or another, HTC messed up by putting it in the Nexus one and the Desire, thats why we have touch sensitive screen or Pitch to Zoom in brackets, but I'm talking about what the Digitizer manufacturers say it can do.
In your scenario it would be a phone having a camera and a flash in your phone, but to take a picture with a flash doesn't work, then calling it a video light....
I agree that not having real multitouch support is annoying, but you bought this device knowing this.
If you didn't know, you should probably take the habit to read some reviews before buying something...

I was actually using the ""Impersonal You"
Where is here the problem? The list is so short that not only the Desire is missing but many other devices which also have or not any multitouch bug
The whole thing bugs me, so it must be a bug...
its so sad that desire isn't in the list ...
Calm down, someone will make it work, whether it comes to the Desire officially or not.
The Desire's touch panel has an issue where it gets confused if you cross an axis with two fingers at once.
This means the rotating gesture will not work reliably, because if you cross an axis with two fingers at the same time, the map will rotate in the wrong direction.
Everything else should work and I think the issue is a rather small one, so most likely all we need is the .apk (if it doesn't get released for the Desire anyway).
There are apps out that show you what the touch sensor is seeing, where it will register multiple touched locations, but only two actually do anything at the same time. If you put three fingers on it, it will show all three, but if you try to move, only two will show the sliders for each finger moving.
Also, if you try to use two fingers, one at 2 o'clock and one at 7 o'clock, and rotate them clockwise, when they are at the 12/6 or 9/3 axis, the circles at your fingers switch with each other and it acts up.
I agree how some see it as a bug, but I would have to say it is just a limitation due to what our device was designed with. (A black and white TV can't show color picture, it's a hardware limitation, not a bug)
I wonder if something along the lines of the hack that allows single-touch displays to be able to use dual-touch would work to allow dual-touch to use multi-touch...thereby allowing GM5 to work without issue?
Hi,
Yeah I'm aware its "danageraus" to put the BT discoverable and on all the time, but still,
Is there a way to make it on discoverable with no time limit (120 seconds)?
Thank you.

BTW, the curve fish doesn't have that option.
Only, on and off, nothing about the "Discoverable" marking.

The time do get changed from 120 to 0 and successfully store but the permission after reboot return to read and write
If permissions won't stay, use root explorer and on properties press "sticky", and they stay there.
However, I'd simply go for JB or ICS, who have the visibility option in settings...
rather than giving the "sticky" to anything, since it's a special permission, for which, I admit, I don't know the full impact on system.

Regarding ICS and JB roms I haven't found one for this device yet. The ones that claim to be are just roms dressed with apps and mods to look like one. Not real ports.

while cm7 and other AOSP roms can, either directly, in display brightness settings, or through apps (screen filter, Moon + reader etc)? The same apps don't work with the softkeys in sense.
Am currently on cm7, mainly because of the darn softkeys blinding me while reading or watching vids.
And is there a camera app for cm7 that does auto focus, like the HTC camera app? And how about internet pass-through?
It seems I need a combination of both types of Roms!
Have you tried the Miui Camera? I was using it with CM7. It's pretty nice, has Autofocus as well as Antishake.
It can be installed as a system app and replace the stock camera (rename the apk to camera, and place in the system app folder and change the permissions. or just install as a stand alone app. I chose to replace my stock camera.
If you have any issues, let me know.
Thanks!
I'll give this app a try!
Mine must be broken because they are hardly blinding.

I don't know of any way to zoom on the video.
I have the front facing camera option on the left hand side of the screen near the top. It has a camera with arrows around it. I'm not sure if it is on the version I linked though. I've switched back to the Miui rom and using the lastest version 1.9.9 which has the front facing camera option (works for both camera and video)... I can try and pull the apk and see what happens if I flash it to CM7 later...
Thanks! I would appreciate this very much!
PS: I'm still hoping someone can explain why there is no control over the softkey lights in sense roms.
For example, screen filter and Moon + reader can both turn them off using AOSP roms, but the same apps cannot in Sense roms.
Is this something that is easy to add and nobody else wants this function, or is there something in the sense roms making it hard to incorporate?
Tried flashing the camera from the latest Miui build (1.9.9) in CM 7... no luck, just force closes.
I'm sure there may be someone out there that knows what needs to be modded to make it work. I wish I did...
I'll enclose the apk if anyone wants to try to mess with it.
Thanks a million for trying, Don!
No problem. Good luck on the backlighting.
I enjoy being able to kill mine when reading books. It's a nice feature to have. Crazy that on the sense based roms that dimming the display doesn't effect the soft key back lighting like it does on the Aosp roms Crazy..

The Fixed2 version doesn't have FFC support. There is also a TEST1 version which has enabled the FFC for some. The link in my signature will take you to the post about Fixed2 but it also links to TEST1. I'm currently working on the version from 1.9.2 so if you want to try it out, PM and I'll give you the download link. The only reason I'm not just posting for everybody right now is so people on various devices/roms give feedback about what needs fixed and tweaked.
As far as why we can't take the app right from MIUI and have it work is because it's dependent on pieces of the MIUI framework. Basically, to make it work the apk needs to be decoded and have some of the framework added to it. Would be a lot easier if MIUI was open source.
I recently upgraded to 4.2.1(ParanoidAndroid 2.9.9) and the new camera(which I assume is the standard Google 4.2 camera) is very basic, and very weak compared to what I had. The old camera(which was also Google stock) had a lot of filters built in, and some hilarious distortions such as "Big Eyes" and "Big Head". My kids LOVE those. They are now gone, as is most of the awesome functionality I had. In it's place is Photo Spheres which I personally consider useless. Is there a way to get my old camera back? I don't want to be stuck on 4.1.1 forever but I hate this new camera!

You can install camera ICS from the market. The layout isn't exactly the same ( I assume it's mimicking the ICS camera layout) but it will give you back the filters, funny faces. And yes I wondered the same thing why did google remove them. Kids get tonnes of laughs out of those. I'd love to know how those decisions are made... 'Hey you know those features we've had in the wild for over a year? Yeah let's remove them'
my exact thoughts also, when i had the 16gb nexxy i updated and was VERY annoyed to find the effects deleted, so much it was one of the "cons" that pushed me into refunding for a non-updated 32gb version
im still 4.1 now lol i seriously dont understand why google would :
A: release nexus 7 without a camera app.....(yea i do know why but lame excuse)
B: when you update to 4.2 it deletes any camera app and replaces it with dah dah duh daaaaa a broken one with non-working photosphere.....wtf?

Well I assume he meant the PhotoSphere which as best I can tell is not functioning correctly. I have not yet gotten it to work at all.
How come i didn't get a camera? I'm on PA 2.99 beta 6.

Because it's not supported for front facing cameras? That's not broken, that's design.

First of all, the app doesn't know which way your camera is facing, nor does it care. Second, I didn't even try it on my Nexus 7, I tried it multiple times on my Galaxy Nexus. Still broken. Never got a decent result. You may say it's operator error, but that's a ridiculous statement as well because it's pretty self explanatory.

ok so look basically it would be very stupid putting diesel into a petrol as it wouldn't work......
acer made it to remove any cam app we had previously then installed a app exactly the same but without the working effects, .... only 1 broken one..photosphere,
saying that its supposed to only work with a front face cam....well then why go to the trouble of jacking our old app and putting one with a feature we cant use......? :good:
Just saying, the app does know which way the camera faces... I assume something in the data for the camera tells the app its front facing. This is probably useful for apps such as Skype too.
When you try photo sphere, it says sorry not supported with front camera.

the strange thing is, you would think panoramic shot wouldnt work, yet in the cam effects pre-4.2 you can use panoramic efect albeit frontcam only, it did work thou.
i think photsphere from front cam, while your in the middle of the shot with the world spinning around you would be a great effect anyways.

You lost me at "Acer". And I hope you realize this is a general "4.2 Google Apps" statement, not something Asus did.
