[Q] Rooting Incredible 2 From Mac? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So I'm a current Fascinate owner who is recieving My replacement/upgrade DInc2 Tuesday & was wondering about Rooting and Roming it & if it was possible to be done from a Mac?
I really just want to be able to flash CM7.
Thanks and I'm looking forward to making the crossover to these forums!

It will more than likely come with 2.3.3 which the only known public s-off method is to use an xtc clip. Which can only be run in windows. As for if it comes with froyo there are only Linux and windows versions of alpharevx and only a windows version of revolutionary. Hope you get lucky and get 2.2. Whatever you do. Check the system version before activating.

There is no method. Sit back and enjoy stock like a lot of us while we wait.

Question about rooting using unrevoked.

After I root with unrevoked3, do I also want to do the unrevoked forever??
The forever part is automatically done in the root procedure.

Um... Definitely MIUI. Rockin' the latest version Paired with Chad's kernel (Which I need to update...), I get awesome battery life while still maintaining speed. I've been running on the same charge for about 37 hours.
What exactly dose unrevoked do?
Just Incredible
Unrevoked is a one click rooting program.....you download it to your computer and install a few files then plug your phone in and let it do the rest this program will give your phone s-off. This means you can install aftermarket roms and kernels. Essentially you can modify your phone to your hearts desire
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
it's so simple, a dead monkey could do it. for real.
Gotta love unrevoked for that exact reason lol.

I'm new to the Evo. (Q) about rooting and recovery.

Im not new to XDA tho, I've been on the Epic forums for a few years. But I couldn't take the lack of support the Epic has. So i just traded in my Epic today and I was wondering what the best, most stable way to root, and install a custom recovery on my Evo. Also, I'm not new to flashing, or adb shell. I know there's a few different ways to root, and install a custom recovery, so I'd be very grateful for someone to point me in the right direction. I heard that the Evo forums are the best at XDA. Thanks so much for your help.

We haz some good people here.
Easiest method is to use unrevoked; download the hboot drivers, install then uninstall htc sync, enable usb debugging on phone, then run the program.
For recovery, it'll come with clockwork [unrevoked flashes it], you can then switch to amon_ra if you wish via PC36IMG file; both can be found in the development section.
And welcome, be wary of the trolls, don't feed them.
If ur phone has the newest software (2.3) on it then u r SOL. If ur are still on stock 2.2 then just run unrevoked or look for the auto-root thread and follow that.

if you are using Gingerbread (software 4.22.651.2 or the new OTA: 4.24.651.1), there is no method of root just yet.
but if you are running FroYo (3.70.651.1) you are in luck
the method i used was this: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Goodbye Stranger - Upd. 02.25.11 - xda-developers
but you can use any of the ones that are in the stickies in the Development section
after you are rooted, I highly recommend using Amon_RA recovery (and so do most on xda lol) follow the instructions in this thread: [Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers
hope this helps you out. and welcome to the rEVOlution!!
I got 2.2 on my phone. Thanks very much for the help guys/girls. So what would happen if I had 2.3, instead of 2.2?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You would have a locked bootloader that couldn't be rooted since there is no root method yet glad you still have 2.2

I came from your exact situation and I can tell you this THIS PHONE IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more supported and FIXES are HERE! and not in the works =P like the (EPIC)
I'll answer your questions with what I did and also point out that the method I have used for root isn't the most recommended way.
Unrevoked is what used to root do it at your own risk people say, my response(It works for me) ALSO YOU CAN'T ROOT IF YOUR ALREADY on Gingerbread =/ so if you are you gotta wait till they figure out how to root it.
Also I came from an epic i KIND OF FELL in love with Miui rom on the EPIC EVEN WITH ITS bugs, battery on Miui is amazing I also love having just 1 homescreen with 3 folders of apps(tools,Misc/Games/Navigation) BW clock so easy to find what I need and the app management and ect is so fluid even settings menu and all menus for that matter ARE FAST and the built in explorer app is fantastic... try miui for evo u wont regret it my man!
flash amon ra recovery! dont use clockwork its buggy sometimes
if you need detailed instructions i dont have them in front of me and im not a big fan of XDA's search it kind of sucks NO OFFENSE but the filtering process needs work it should be like the forum.mobilisim.org BY FAR THE BEST SEARCH PROCESS! always gets me what I want in 1 search
Definitely try MIUI rom its the best its very sexy
I actually had like six girls tell me my phone was sexy

New to incredible

Hey all.
I'm coming from the fascinate as I accidentally dropped it in water. Just picked up an Incredible and am wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of how to flash custom roms on this guy OR if someone can just verify that pretty much the same process is applicable to the Incredible vs. Fascinate.
I look forward to some new awesomeness from all you guys on my first HTC phone! Thanks in advance!

Is it already rooted? What is it on froyo or gibgerbread?
This thing is out of box stock. I'm extremely familiar with modding and romming on the fascinate but I suspect there are some different processes for HTC phones. Currently on stock froyo and seems there is no update for gb.

Great then all you need to do is run the latest unrevoked from here http://unrevoked.com/#inc. It will get you root, a custom recovery, and s-off. Then your set just download a rom and flash it thru your new clockwork mod recovery. You can get more info by clicking the forever link on the above site.

Welcome to the Inc! I have absolutely ZERO experience flashing roms with any smartphone except the Inc so I can't attest to how exact or different the methods are. All credit goes to the developers of the rom, I did not make these directions. Here is a quick, albeit outdated, guide on some root info if you are new to rooting. Here are two, of likely many, variations of flashing roms for the incredible.
Taken from Nils Business Gingersense 3.5
Download the current version of this ROM from above
Check MD5
Put it on your SD Card
Reboot into recovery
Factory reset on main menu
Format System on mount menu
Flash the current version of this ROM
Boot ROM
Skip everything in settings
Do a *228 option 2 in the dialer
Log into the market - Make sure you skip/uncheck the restore option
Set up but do not restore anything
Install your apps manually from either the market or your SD Card
Let me know how it is running
Taken from Wildstang's Hybrid Speed rom
Installation Instructions
NOTE: I use CWMR 5X. Some wipe options below are not included in earlier recovery versions. Still wipe what is available the best you can.
1. Put Rom on the root of your SD Card
2. Compare MD5 Sum
NOTE: To verify MD5 you could use the program for Windows that I use here: MD5 Calculator
3. Reboot to Recovery
4. Wipe these:
Main Screen:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Advanced:
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Mounts and Storage:
Format-
/boot
/system
/datadata
/data
/cache
5. Install Rom from SD Card
6. Reboot and enjoy!
Note: First boot is really long!
How's this help out?
Edit: Really both Unrevoked 3 and Unrevoked forever are the same. Initially Unrevoked 3 did not previde s-off I believe but this is no longer the case. Unrevoked 3 will do you just fine.
Wow thank you sir! Very, very much appreciated.
Do you follow that basic process for MIUI as well?
Oh and do I need to use an official HTC Ian cable or can I use the one from my fascinate?

I don't want to tell you the wrong information as I've never flashed MIUI but I (with my prior experience of flashing roms) would go about it the same way. If I ran into troubles then I would decide how to proceed. For all the AOSP, Sense 1, Sense 2.0, Sense 3.0, Sense 3.5 roms I have flashed; I would install doing the same way. As for using a cable, you mean for transferring the rom from your pc to phone? I use the same one that came with my phone, but if your Samsung cable fits then by all means try it.
I dont think the samsung plug is the same as htc. To use unrevoked you would need the correct cable.
Alright cool beans. Do you guys use odin to get back to stock or what?

No we use an ruu. It is either a PB31IMG.zip flashable thru hboot or an exe program run from a pc.

The plug is the same. Or at least it fits the car charger I have and works. Im more concerned with it when using unrevoked or flashing anything via usb.

Nah, I believe Odin is Samsung specific. We use RUU's, again I'm not sure of what "Odin" is. If you want to go back to stock, we use RUU froyo found at this resourceful site. You will find radios, RUU's, and recovery files conveniently accessible and in one spot.

If it fits it should work fine. Test it by selecting disk drive on your phone when it pops up after plugging in the cable, and see if windows can access it. If it can it will do just fine with unrevoked.
No we don't need odin to go back to stock.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses! Incredible community seems far better than the Fascinate community haha. Ill do some more lurking but if you guys have any random bits of knowledge you wish you had at the beginning feel free to post it.
Also, is there an official release for 2.3 or is it still only froyo? Because I find no updates for ota...
Sent from my incredible Incredible
There are offical gb ruu's and ota's that were pushed to some but then pulled by verizon due to some small issues. However there are custom roms built from it that have been fixed such as jermaines stock+ rom you can find in the dev section. Note if you use a gb ruu make sure you root and get s-off first as it is much hardet to root if your s-on on gb. It actually requires downgrading back to froyo.

(Emphasis by me) The Inc community is definitely a good mix of helpful folks and I've only been here since January.
Quick question after reading far too much.
Have rooted, cooked ROMs for HC 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 on my Iconia Tab, so while I'm not a n00b to droid, I am to Droid phones.
Just picked up a Dinc, and it already has 2.3.4 on it. After reading quite a few threads and pages, I'm assuming at this time I'm SOL for gaining root? Is that a correct assumption?
tia
PS: Holding power and vol - does nothing (phone just sits there until I release the power button)

[Q] Hopefully a quick question....

Well, I have the Incredible 2, which had 2.3.4 on it. I wanted to root, so I ran Revolutionary, and all went well. But, it did not downgrade to 2.3.3 like I thought it said, rather it downgraded to 2.2.1. It's rooted, and runs fine, but there were a couple apps that are not working properly, and the app says its due to the older version. So I guess my question(s) are: Did I make a mistake somewhere to make it downgrade to 2.2.1? And what is the simplest way to upgrade it to 2.3.3, (if possible) And whats the closest to a stock version of 2.3.3 can I get? I have searched, but know one else seems to have this problem. Sorry if it is posted somewhere, but I dont see it. Thanks in advance for any help

Guide for beaup's S-Off?

Hi guys, brand new to the forum, member wise, but been using XDA site for years. Have had the Verizon HTC One since it was released in August and been patiently waiting for S-Off to be achievable. Awesome for Sonic buying a Java card and wish I could have sent mine to him but unfortunately did not have a backup phone to use.
I was wondering if someone could create a guide to complete S-Off with Beaup's mod? I don't want to brick my phone since it's the only one I have, so I figured this could be beneficial to everyone, not just me.
Thanks guys
If you follow his guide, it's pretty straight forward. It failed the first time for me because of either not having the stock kernel, or just a bad usb port, but that didn't brick my phone. It just didn't do anything. Tried it the second time and it worked like a charm.
