I'm just completely stumped. I spent ages trying to get get unrevoked to work, but apparently not with 2.2.
So I got a downgrade guide, from here, and followed that to understand what I need to do. I've done the following:
[*]Installed HTC Sync, then uninstalled app to keep the usb drivers
[*]Installed the unrevoked HBOOT drivers to get the Bootloader Interface
[*]Downloaded the download kit and two more different image zips to the unrevoked reflash package (PD98IMG and PB99IMG 2.29.405.5 Radio 32.49.00.32U 5.11.05.27 release 159811 signed)
I run through the command line instructions in the guide and I get the hash temproot access in place, however, when I then reboot the handset I get the quick run through of each area and 'no image' under each one and then lastly I get a "no image or wrong image". As my phone is not branded I'm not using a goldcard (believe I don't need it from all comments) - which everything I've read tells me is a mem card or goldcard error. I've even reformatted my card in the phone - but still no luck.
I've now spent 2 days hunting the internet to work out what is going on...so any help, suggestions, confirmation I've been a total andriod noob would be appreciated ! I've spent my whole weekend trying to fix this, thanks Matt
PS: Only thing I can think to add is that the phone looks to be a Dubai region - hence my desire to root and v2.3 to get around marketapp nightmares.
Nooob - heal thyself...
The answer was in reading it all. Slowly.
I will suggest that in writing it all down slowly I realised I'd confused some steps from unrevoked attempts to the downgrade. So I went back to the guide...and read the bit at the top again and its the only place I ever saw mention of regional phones needing a gold card. So I used the addictivetips guide and excellent gold card tool and I was away !
Looks like I've downgraded it. So...now to crack on with root and ROM !
Format your SD card to FAT32 format, no formatting to default. That should make it work. Reason being bootloader only reads FAT32 or lower
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I have the same phone. It's made for Iran. The only way to solve your problem is the gold card.

Someone I know has gotten their Desire USB bricked. Normally that's a non-issue but there's a few erm... complications.
Here's how it occurred, they have an O2 branded Desire but somehow they managed to get the Android 2.2 update (No one else with an O2 Desire got it btw). As you'd imagine it caused quite a few issues, it apparently got to 80% then restarted went to 33% and then restarted. Now it's USB bricked.
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 has no effect meaning we can't SD card access
The current ROM has a Froyo version number and is very very unstable. It crashes after about 2 minutes and then reboots.
It's HBOOT 0.80 at the moment (Despite the OTA 2.2 update being HBOOT 0.92???) and using the HBOOT 0.80 rooting package I cannot get Step 1 to successfully execute. It gives error 41: remote id failure.
How to get back to older ROM after FROYO update messed everything up
Same issue here. I have an orange branded htc desire which I debranded, then updated to 2.2 Froyo without a goldcard and now have a bricked phone. No access to SD, Wifi, GSM, Force closes all the time, and reboots every couple of minutes in a loop.
Running update in recovery mode doesnt work, neither does running Stock RUU files on different versions with goldcard in phone.
Hboot is 0.80, 2.2 showing as installed. Unsure what to do next really, any suggestions would be great, there must be loads of people who have this issue now...

I had the same issue. Virgin UK phone. Used a zip version of the OTA Froyo and got stuck with it looping.
To fix it I created a new goldcard in my girlfriend's phone and used the same zip file on the goldcard to flash from the bootloader.
My phone has not been rooted.
Hope that helps and good luck.

I thought Goldcards could only be created in the phone you plan on using it in? I can still manage to create a goldcard using my phone, so maybe I have a different issue.
PS where did you get the OTA Froyo update?
Why u dont try?
http://www.unrevoked.com/#desire
This installs a custom Recovery but i think u need a Sdcard.
If yes call the devs for help if they could patch it that it runs with DataPartition or something else. If u have Hboot 0.80 Unrevoked works! 100%
Mines the same.....unfortunately I don't have access to another Desire, and none of the so called fixes work......I'm on Orange and this update has well and truly shafted my phone, now I have the most expensive brick in the house.....get in!
The problem you have is your sd card is not recognized so unrevoked doesnt work and neither does 'enabling' your sd card via adb devices....its all crap
I created my goldcard in an HTC Tattoo which worked like a charm. I used the sticky post at the very top of the development section for instructions. Once done I copied http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip to the SD card and renamed it to update.zip. make sure windows doesn't change it to update.zip.zip
I then installed it from the bootloader.
So all I really need to do is create a goldcard and it should work for him?
I'll tell him to give that a shot. It would be impossible to create a gold card with a proper CID though because as we all know ADB doesn't work with USB bricks.

I used this http://www.roothtchero.co.uk/goldcard-2
There's a tool to create a goldcard linked in the guide. Made it very easy. I'm really no expert but I think the cid isn't dependant on the phone, just the card. I couldn't get it to work in a card reader but was very straight forward when it was connected to the pc through my girlfriend's Tattoo. Didn't cause any problems with me using 64 bit windows 7 either.
Hey guys,
I'll start with a heads up; complete newb here so I hope i have the right forum/section. Furthermore I appologise for my English, it is not my native language so I hope I can make myself clear. So far for the disclaimers.
Here's the situation; I have a Dutch HTC desire and I am absolutely lost in the rooting proces. I'll give you guys my specs first;
Phone
- HTC Desire running Android 2.2 Froyo from the OTA update
- Hboot version 0.92.0001
- NO Goldcard, regular microSD 4 gig that came with the device, haven't altered it
- Radio 5.09.00.20
PC:
- Windows 7 x64
- HTC Sync installed
Now I want root, preferebly with OpenDesire and A2SD so have been googling about the entire weekend now, but haven't found any guides that match my specs fully, havent got a clue where to start really with the rooting process. For instance; most downgrading guides talk about needing to use Hboot 0.92, where mine is 0.92.0001. Also some guides tell me I need a goldcard, others say I don't.
This is where I'm at right now, having read several guides these are the steps I think I have to take;
1. Backup everything using Mybackuppro
2. Downgrade using PB99IMG.ZIP. Is this correct, and will it work with my Hboot? Will I need a Goldcard for this?
3. Root the phone using Unrevoked. Will this work, concedering I have HTC Sync installed, and if no will a normal uninstall through the Windows programs uninstall be sufficient for "Uninstall HTC Sync completely" or are further meassures required? Will it work on my radio version, or is this not of any matter at this point?
I believe that at this point, my phone is worthless, right? There is no rom installed, so at this point I would need to install a rom. So on to step 4;
4. Install OpenDesire rom. I have read things about it having to be a zip file, the files I found though were .exe's Will the .exe do, or have I found the wrong files? Also I read that in order for the camera to work on OD, i need radio version 5.x, which I do. Will the rooting/downgrading proces make any changes to the radio version also?
5. Is this it? Have I missed anything, or are these roughly the steps I have to take to downgrade from 2.2, root, and install OD (which I believe also is a 2.2 version, with the JIT correct?)
Any tips, advises and remarks would be highly appriciated, coming from an ancient Nokia E65 I'm sort of unsure how to handle Android, how import small nuances like the exact version of Hboot are.
Also, if I have left out any important information please do not hesitate to ask, i'll reply ASAP.
Not one reply? Anyone?

Dude did u manage to root your desire let me know ? i can pm you the links
You probably have the new phones which is with the SLCD screens. There is currently only 1 method to root those. But you need to operate with a black screen. Which means you won't be sure if you really pressed the right option or not. Try search for the SLCD root for HTC Desire.

Not yet mate, when I do I'll let you know
Downgrading will require a goldcard if your phone is network branded. It is necessary to root your phone.

Still have the AMOLED version, not the SLCD one... Was one the first with a Desire in Holland, just sort of late with rooting it... and now there's hundreds of outdated tuturials, making it hard to figure out which ones still work

Ok, thx. I bought the phone without any form of network branding, your post implies that I will not be needing a goldcard then, correct? Or do I need it anyway for A2SD?
Right, what ROM is on it at the moment? IF it's 2.09.405.8 then do the following...
Download this file:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed_txt.zip
and rename it PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip!!) and copy to the root of your SD card. Turn phone off and boot into HBOOT by holding Vol-down whilst turning it on. Follow the instructions and allow it to update (assuming it works). Once done, reboot and you'll be back on 1.21.405.x and you can now root your phone using unrEVOked
OR
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
If you run this utility it will tell you if you need a goldcard. If you do need one, you can quit it, make one, and run it again.

The problem with the first method is that it corrupts your misc partition, which will need fixing. The second one takes care of everything.
Worked like a charm guys, thanks so much! Running OpenDesire right now, absolutely love it! Thanks again!

Didn't on mine...
Hello fellow forum members;
I have done a lot of searching on the forums and still cannot find clear steps as to going about upgrading my DINC from 2.1-update1 with baseband 1.00.03.04.06 to a 2.2 working rom. Most of the time, i'll download the zip and rename it 'update' but it will fail and abort.
Initially, I rooted, then followed the walkthrough video to UNroot. Now, ive been stuck on 2.1-update1 for days and my phone will not update to 2.2 OTA and im getting extremley frustrated. THis firmware is no good whatsoever. Can anyone help me in getting the CORRECT, WORKING zip package to load into recovery?? I'll paypal you cash if you get me up and running, without quesiton. Im desperate.
Thank you in advance!
If you are still unrooted with stock recovery, then follow the instructions at http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/31/manual-update-droid-incredible-to-android-2-2/
Be sure that when you rename your update.zip that it is in lowercase and that it's not inadvertently named update.zip.zip. Also, make sure that your sd card is formatted to fat32 rather than fat. That should put you where you need to be.
try dialing *#*#2432546#*#* and seeing if that updates it. should force a check for updates if they've been pushed by the carrier at all. works better than the check software updates in the settings.
Najaboy: Will try that right now, thank you for your replay man. My SD card is already in Fat32, so i'll dump it at the root and give it a shot.
Baram: i tried that, getting a 'success' message, yet the firmware still stayed at 2.1-update1
I will report back in a few minutes after folowing Najaboy's request.
Thanks again, guys.
Ok, got a 'Status 7' Error upon running the zip. Both downloaded files return a Status 7 error. I"ve looked up some help regarding this but the ones i've come across are not very clear, and sometimes the answer could be like...20 pages back from the first post due to down links and such.
Instantly regretting my root attempt.
Any ideas?
Check your current software build number. It should be 1.22.605.2 in order for the update to work.
My software number is infact 1.22.605.0
At this point, I'd probably just re-root and get S-OFF. After that, follow the tutorials for upgrading your HBOOT to .92 and radio to 2.15.00.7.28 via PB31IMG.zips. After that, you'll be able to use any of the 2.2 ROMs including a stock one.
It's a bit more involved and carries some risk if you don't follow the proper steps, but is the same upgrade path that I used.
The upgrade.zip path that we tried for you isn't going to work since your phone doesn't have the May OTA. I've done some searching and can't seem to find it available online anywhere and some members have indicated that VZW is no longer able to push it- instead offering certified like new replacement that have it.
Have you tried an RUU? My suggestion would be to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436 and try the "Part 2: 2.2 stock using OTA RUU"
Basically all you have to do is download this http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Make sure your SD card is formatted as FAT32.
Put the PB31IMG-3.21.605.1_RUU.zip to your SDCard, rename it to PB31IMG.zip
Boot into HBOOT (PWR + VOL Down) wait a bit and it will ask you if you want to update. (VOL + UP) It will then update to the stock 2.2, with the 2.15.00.07.28 radio.
Also DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY! And make sure you have a good charge.
Then you can re-root using the latest UnrEVOked, it does the S-OFF for you as well.
I have a non-working phone at the moment.
I unbranded from O2 stock and th phone updated to 2.2 from 2.1 fine.
There was a minor update OTA after that when things starded to go wrong. I had forgotten to put the gold card in before the update and it broke the wifi.
Got a downgrade tool back to HTC 2.1 and it worked ok, I just ignored any updates.
After a couple of months I decided to try updating again and did some research and found a couple of guides. This didn't work though, and now I'm stuck with a 2.2 phone that I can't seem to do anything with.
The downgrade does not work, it now says CID incorrect! Update Fail.
I have tried a couple of different cards in the phone but the phone says there is no card installed. I can't access the card form a PC either via USB. So I can't make a gold card - step 1 in just about every guide I've read.
I have tried Unrevoked and that just hangs or gets so far in and fails depending on the version I use.
The phone when turned on and left to itself reboots occasionally.
I'm also getting 'Process sytem not responding' errors.

Get the stock o2 RUU and flash that (gold card not needed) then root again
I have been thinking about rooting my HTC Desire, but I want to be able to unroot if I need to. Problem is I can only find RUUs for Verizon and I have a U S Cellular phone. Would Verizon's work for USCC?

Ok, you know I hate it when this happens. Was going to reply saying that I had tried the OS RUU I have several times and it never works. I was going to reply saying this but I though 'I'll just have one more go, at least then I can report what the exact error was'.
What do you know, it bloody well worked.
I'm stumped, must have done something different this time that I hadn't every other time.
Just have to remember where I put my backups now.
barfaroo there is now a ruu for the Us Celluar desire. it can be downloaded from the HTC site. I recommen rooting a doing the S-off to it before updating. If you do not.(which im stuck at not) after the update you will nto beable to root, until there is an update for rooting the new froyo for uscc.
i seem to be going around and around in circles and am about to completely lose my marbles! I am not completely new to this having successfully rooted a vega, htc desire and my one x, several times before.
i am trying to s-off, root and flash new ROM on my mum's old phone so my 5yo can use it for munzeeing.

unrevoked3 (again fresh download from their website) fails after:

i am completely stuck here and can find no way around it.
There is alot about downgrading the boot from 1.01.0002, but i don't have this (and couldnt get that to work either?
what am I missing - i know its something easy/basic.

Before you attempt to unlock your hboot via htcdev (lots worse that s-off) can you tell me what android programs you have installed on your pc, like htcsync of sony flashtool, android commander. anything like that? its probably a program thats interfeering with your system and not its drivers. Do not update, as to get s-off again you will have to just downgrade back to where you are now :good:

thanks heavy_metal_man
i don't think i have anything currently running on the system.
now have android sdk stuff and the universal android drivers.
have uninstalled htc sync manager and htc sync (older version) and removed everything else remotely anrdroid/htc-like from uninstall programs screen.
the great thing is i can now consistently connect to my device in both adb and fastboot modes, so i am definitely making progress. i think the key was that the PC's usb socket i was using is a little intermittent - i have now swapped to a different one (also USB2 instead of 3) and i'm getting a much more consistent connection!
however - i have been trying to unlock the bootloader using htcdev site - but having trouble with the RUU - it now connecte fine and reboots my device into recovery but then crashes. every time.
are you telling me i don't need to RUU on the htcdev site? can i s-off/root without??
thanks again

I would recommend attempting revolutionary from revolutionary.io again, assuming that your hboot is still 1.01.0001! keeping in mind that all htc sync type programs are a no-no ( but you have taken care of that ) usb3 ports a no-no for almost all android development and tools (including this one ) and lastly dont install the revolutionary version of clockworkmod recovery as it has a "charging bug" follow this guide and you shall be fine I recommend that you add clockworkmod recovery version 5.0.2.0 from post 2 section 6. using the pc49img.zip method is usually the easiest. tap this thread to let me know how you got on
yay it worked without problem!
thanks for all your help.
pretty sure it was just the USB3 that was the problem - why have i not read anywhere that this is a no no??
thanks all
drnickf
Pretty sure usb3 was not widely used at the time, ergo not a known issue
