s-off , rooted

will i be getting official update to 2.3...
You need to unroot and go back to stock if you want to receive update.
Just run the appropriate RUU for your phone if you want so.

When one is using stock rom, one can receive ota updates even if one is s-off and rooted. By flashing ota updates the phone gets s-on and one doesn't have root access any more.

Yeah but it's not advised to use OTA updates when rooted.
I think NO

Hey guys,
This probably isn't just for DHD users but seeing as thats what im using i'll post it here!
So a while back i went through the custom ROM phase. I am by no means an expert in this area, im just able to follow instructions!
I rooted with visionary and went radio-off with the one click method (My phone was on 1.32). I gave a few ROMS a go and just preferred stock battery life etc so restored the stock ROM from my clockwork recovery back-up.
My question is how do i get my phone back to the state where it will receive official OTA updates from HTC (I've read that they wont work once you've done the S-off/radio-off procedure).
If its not possible to get it back to this state then what options do i have for getting official updates (say whenever HTC push the 2.3.3 ROM!)
Thanks Guys
easy way , run ruu updater utility for your phone but you loose all data and settings
Unroot it and install stock rom. You should be able to get total updates then

Yep, that's the guide to follow
That's the one. Use 1.32.405.6 RUU. Then you must turn your phone S-ON, you can follow the instructions in my radio s-off tool thread to do that.
Is this correct that if you root and have S-OFF you won't receive updates? I asked that question at the time of rooting and was told that I would still get updates?
The only reason I rooted was to get Adfree working and get other such apps for rooted devices.
My Rom is the 1.32.405.6 as I bought the DHD all I have done is root with Visionary and got S-OFF.

im in the same boat. wouldn't mind leaving my phone as is if id still recieve updates despite the root and s-off!
S-OFF does not disable OTA updates, but root does.

Oh so whenever there's an OTA available I can just unroot the phone? Or is it a little more complicated?!

I used the S-OFF tool and Visionary temp root then perm root. How would we go about restoring everything when it comes to being able to get the 2.3 update?
Kind of wish I didn't root now as I was told the oppisite that S-OFF and rooting wouldn't effect getting updates.
Edit: I just used attempt unroot with Visionary, the DHD rebooted and I used root checker from the market and it says I don't have root now. Would this be sufficient to get updates now do you think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yep, that should be alright. If the OTA does not want to install, you can just flash HTC RUU and the issue will be fixed. You will get a notification about the OTA anyway, so you do not have to guess whether it works or not.
Thanks that's good to know that the update notification will come and that by unrooting fixes any problems. In the meantime until 2.3 comes I think I'll reroot
I only rooted in the first place to get things like Adfree and Drocap2 working.

OR
In short, download the RUU you require (if you had to downgrade to root then use the same RUU) then use HTC Sync to push it to your phone (again, HTC site has good instructions).

Means rooted phone cannot update Android 2.3 OTA.
OR may be is there any way to update manually Android 2.3 on rooted phone? hehe

but remember, you wont be able to use any apps that require root access, as the latest GB rom from HTC hasn't been rooted, so BEWARE!!!!!!!
if you need, you can go for any GB ROM from here, which provide you full access to root & superuser, etc.
Try using visionary
I know there's a unroot function on it, but never used it. Probarly someone else did, maybe search the forum

Why is that all I want to do is roll back from the OTA to the previous state before any OTA updates as I can no longer access the beats audio settings I have no interest yet in rooting the device with a custom firmware unless i really have to as like I said i am a complete noob to all this.

I started out with an unlocked and unrooted Vodafone France branded HOX (CID VODAP203) with S-ON running stock ICS.
Foolishly, I assumed I needed to update the HBOOT in order to receive the official Jellybean upgrade. So I downloaded the appropriate firmware.zip from here and flashed it using fastboot. That procedure completed successfully, and the phone rebooted.
Since then, it has been stuck at the Beats Audio screen, which is what I suppose is called a "bootloop".
I tried using the correct RUU from htcruu.com, but that throws up an error about the wrong HBOOT version. I can't reproduce the message exactly; there is insufficient charge to try again.
I had HBOOT 0.43 before; after flashing, I have 1.36. Is there any way out of the bootloop? I don't mind wiping the phone.
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! :cyclops:

Got it.
The phone had gotten locked again, that's why trying to flash anything resulted in an error. Feeling very stupid now.
Got the unlock code from HTCDev, unlocked phone, flashed boot.img and recovery.img from rom.zip retrieved from stock RUU.
Phone is now back to normal.
Thanks a lot!
Super.
Enjoy JB.

Err.. I'm actually back to ICS; couldn't find the stock JB ROM.
Now I'm just being greedy, but would you perhaps know where I might find the JB RUU for my CID? The OTA was released in November, but it hasn't been added to the collection here on xda.
y dont you just flash stock recovery and update to JB since the ota is out as you said ?

I'm not getting the JB OTA when I force it to check for updates. I only get an update from ICS 4.03 to 4.04.
I guess I'll just need to keep trying everyday

Why just send email to HTC with question from where to find appropriate RUU because you did not receive an ota?
Or send it to your local services center to upgrade it?

I updated to Kit Kat this morning. What are the necessary steps for me to gain root? I haven't rooted a phone since my Droid X, so I might be out of the loop on some things. Thanks for any help!!!
So why would you take the update before asking this

You can still root it. If you go into RUU mode, flash one of the older system RUU's, then get s-off before updating. You pretty much gave yourself a **** ton more steps to do it, but yes, you can.
This link has the info to flash back to an older version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216&highlight=s-on
You won't need the s-on / lock part of that, but you will probably need to flash one of those old system images, then use rumrunner to get s-off and unlocked, then you can update to 4.4, then flash a recovery.
Use firewater-soff.com. Use the temp root method.

If you are s-on hboot will not allow you to flash an older ruu version than you are currently on (downgrade). So that wont work. But as stated in the post above firewater will get you bootloader unlocked and s-off.

So Firewater can achieve S-off with completely stock kit kat? I ask because I just sent my One to be repaired (4.3 S-off) but I have this feeling HTC will update me and possibly return me to S-on.

Thanks, from what I have read in the S-Off thread the temp. root has in fact been blocked so I do not think this will work unless I am reading it wrong.
