Hey Guys,
I just received my G2! I am based in Australia and did not buy directly from T-Mobile. Is there likely to be a method for unlocking the phone ourselfs on this forum?
My other option is to purchase an unlock code.
Regs,
Kit
My suggestion is too call T-Mobile USA and request an unlock code, it's free but might take about 7 days to get the code.
I am interested if all works well for you. I will be moving to Australia and I am on the fence to either buy a Iphone 4 or a G2 for use in Australia.
Sorry to bump this? How did this work out?
You know that you can just unlock the phone yourself for free with GFree, right? You can also root the phone while your at it in one go.
Ya, you can fully unlock your phone using gfree. Do you know how to use adb?

I'm from Australia too
Other than unlock codes, I cannot really suggest any other solution. Having been in the telecommunications industry for a few years now, I have learned that unlock codes are the only genuine way of unlocking phones.
I would find someone with good feedback on eBay, or if you were looking for a free solution (if you are willing to do a bit more to get it), I have had success with freeunlocks.com. But in the end, choose a reputable site, with lots of feedback and good support, to avoid the risk of bricking your phone (although I believe the G2 can't be bricked by entering too many codes, but not 100% sure).
Or just follow the guides here, carrier like tmobile will give you the unlock code free if you meet certain criteria. I was gonna get it that way cuz I met their criteria. But ended up doing this first lol
Hey,
I got my Nexus two months ago and I've loved it unconditionally!
But I'm moving to the USA for three months in the summer and I really want to be able to use it over there. I'm just wondering is there an efficient way to unlock the carrier restrictions without paying my carrier? I'm on a contract and they won't do it.
I have until June, so if nothing is available now, I'm sure it will be then-provided it's possible.
I'm really not sure if this is possible because I'm totally unused to Android-I came from an iPhone 4.
I don't mind using Custom ROMs, Rooting, etc.

The Galaxy Nexus is factory unlocked. All Nexus phones are. It's one of Googles provisions for these phones.
not anymore, carrier sold GNs are locked. If your operator won't unlock it, there are a lot of sites that will unlock samsung phones. I got my unlock code off ebay for about £9...
you need to enter the code again after a factory reset so keep it safe somewhere

?? Mine was. I thought they all were still. Is it only in certain countries than? I bought one from Bell Canada and it is unlocked. Either way ignore my post I just assumed all of them were still unlocked.
@OP I found lots of places to buy unlock codes cheap. If you aren't in a hurry you can also wait until we find a way to unlock it with software.
I got the chance to test it out today and as it turns out, it's unlocked.
I got the phone in a strange way where there was very little contact with the carrier because it's on a corporate contract.
Either way, it's unlocked, but thank you guys for the help!
I'm using CDMA/LTE GNex, so this doesn't apply to me.. but just wondering..
Is the unlock code unique to each device or do all Gnexuses have the same code?
If the latter, why does no one publicize it?

they are unique, if someone cracked the encryption ( pay sites ) they could sell the keys they can create. you need to give your IMEI to be able to generate your code
Out of curiosity what carriers are locking the phone? I now have used 3 different phones all factory unlocked. Is this just certain countries?
Hey guys,
Sorry if this question has been asked over and over already. I tried searching but cant seem to find a definite answer.
Is there a way to SIM Unlock the TELUS SGH-T989D? I already tried the unlockers on the market, including the ones that need Root, but they arent working.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance.
PS. For Telus S2X owners, how did you sim unlock your phone? (which website did you use to get unlock code)
i know that the t-mobile version which i think is in the same boat, needs an unlock code that you have to get from your carrier or a website. I used a unlocked website cellunlock.net and use the discount code android50.
i also did my research and this was the only answer i could find
Obviously you simply need a unlocking code to unlock this phone. I unlocked it on the spot from a phone store that was not from telus but all he did was that he made a phone call to request for a code.
AT&T skyrocket phone users have trouble unlocking their phones because AT&T claims that their phones are specifically designed for their carrier only which I think is probably untrue.
Anyway, I did unlock my LG G2X using a site called unlockthatphone.com at $15. Try that site. Also, I think it is a good idea to call Telus as well directly.
Pickup the phone dial 611. Ask t-mobile.. Tell them your going somewhere outside the country and you need unlock code.. It should arrive 3 to 7 days in your email you give them.

Thanks guys. I just went ahead and got the unlock code from a website for $20.
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone can help me. I've been searching this forum for about three months trying to find a way to unlock my DINC2 to tmobile. I read somewhere that if you downgrade t0 hboot 97 you can do it. I successfully downgraded and yet I can't find a tutorial on how to unlock. I bought the phone from a pawn shop because someone told me I can call Verizon and get the unlock code. This is NOT TRUE. You need to have service with Verizon and be in good standing for 90 days before you can get an unlock code and in my area Verizon coverage SUCKS!!! For now I'm just using the phone to tether internet to my computer. Is there any way to unlock this phone without buying the XTC Clip or calling Verizon???

All the xtc clips I have seen are around $50-$75, I have tried two unlocking sites and neither of them could provide codes so I am looking into a xtc clip.
I got a code off ebay, it worked fine. It was $5. This is the particular auction I bought from -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290655259604
It arrived within a few hours, I typed it into the phone, and the SIM unlock was reported successful. Note that I haven't put in another SIM to test it out yet, however the process gave the correct & positive feedback messages that implied the code worked.
so this is my first Android phone where unlocking the SIM card is possible. i've been with Verizon and Sprint so long that i never bothered looking up the unlocking abilities/procedures. the only unlocking experience i've had in the past have been with iPhones, where the jailbreaking software has an option to unlock the SIM card as well.
and i didn't know that you have to ride out your 2 year contract before AT&T will unlock your phone. i've tried searching around here, but i couldn't get a good answer. i kept finding threads in regard to a Canadian carrier where you dial a number + an unlock code, but then some ROMS didn't allow the dialing of that number to work (or something like that).
is there a method to unlock the SIM card of the AT&T version without waiting out the 2 year contract?
yes, just keep asking. use online chat. i got both my devices unlocked, one after 25 days of owning and one after 2 days. you do not need to wait out your contact, that only applied to the iPhone.
p.s. the other two larger unlock Sim threads in this board detail all this for you.

ATT will unlock the SGS3 after owning it for 15 days, and as long as your last months bill is paid in full.
call them, or chat them and ask for it
thanks for the info. i totally missed the Q&A section somehow.
in related to other threads i found, should i try to unlock the SIM card first before rooting/flashing a custom ROM?
They are mutually exclusive items to do on your phone. One does not affect the other. So to answer your question you can do whichever task you want to have done first.
That said, I like knowing my phone is carrier-lock free asap, so I'd unlock first to get that done.

just got off the Web Chat with an agent. all i did was simply ask for an unlock and he gave me the unlock code to use once inserting a non-AT&T SIM card.
i didn't have to provide a reason or anything.
now all i have to do is locate a non-AT&T SIM card to test the unlock, and then i can proceed to rooting this. hopefully the stable AOKP will be part of today's release.
I just dropped by Bestbuy and bought the phone out-right. Un-activated phones and phones without the stock ROM have to use a diff carrier's SIM to activate the unlock screen.
Pick one up on ebay. you can get a T-Mobile micro SIM for like $2. The only thing it's good for is unlocking your phone.
Like the one I bought:

If u got it from best buy you overpaid. Phones are marked up from ATT cost. They are 549.99 with ATT and 700 with BBY.
OP
You can go to cellunlocker.net and put in your IMEI and get a unlock code. Great site. I use them all the time.

Bestbuy does price match. So I got it for $549 plus the $10 in BB rewards.
Why are you telling the OP to pay for it when he doesn't have to?
Guess i'll have to try another time later. Not to mention the guy i chatted with didn't seem too bright. Asked if i could have the SIM Unlock code for my phone, and he said that AT&T sim cards cannot be unlocked.
Told me that it can't be unlocked because it is still contracted to AT&T. Told him i read that people have been getting them unlocked after a couple days of purchasing the device, on contract or not, and he said apparently i was misinformed. haha

lulz;
try a new chat rep, or call them.
like ive said a million times already:
as long as you've had your phone for 15 days or more, and your last months bill is paid in full, you will get an unlock code.
now hook me up with some thanks :silly:
If you're not in a position to call to get the code from AT&T (like me, who got from Ebay and lives in NZ), then cellunlocker.net worked for me in terms of getting a code. Just thought I would mention that for people who see this thread and come to find out about SIM unlocking.
yea, i bought my phone on July 26, so it's been 26 days, and since i just started my contracts with AT&T (new customer), i didn't have a last month's bill to pay. and yet the agent i had unlocked it for me with no questioning.
btw, would i be able to use the LTE SIM card from my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus as a "non-AT&T" SIM card?
If you're waiting on a sim like I was... just install the cm10 nightly for the 21st. It will show the unlock screen upon reboot. I didn't need a dialer code or sim. This bug allowed me to use the code I got from att to successfully unlock my phone.

That is why I listed that site. Cause it works and not everyone has ATT. And sometimes they takes days to get a unlock code. Cellunlocker.net does it within minutes.

DO NOT USE THIS! It's for the 9300 international model, NOT the US models. Seriously, why would you recommend that someone try this?

After 2-3 months T-Mobile should unlock it for you upon request. Just call them.
So I finally took the time to see if the SIM card from my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus would work.
I turned off my S3, put in the Verizon SIM, and started up. After I unlocked the screen, I was promoted to input unlock code or dismiss. I typed the code in and after a few minutes I was taken to my home screen.
I guess it's safe to say my S3 is now unlocked? If I really want to make sure, I would have to have a working SIM to put in my S3?
