if you backed up accounts on 2.3.3 and upgraded to 2.3.4 , that wont allow you to restore the accounts. is there anyway i can get passed this ? my old rom was a 2.3.3 and trhe new one is a 2.3.4
what accounts?
Yea, I'm a little confused also.
We're comin from a pure power source.
well, my google accounts. the thing is whenever i try a rom i get the "cannot establish connection to server" or whatever and it wont let me add my google account so i could get on the app market. and my current rom does have my google accounts working well...but when i upgrade , it just wont let me sign in to google....and i have internet...even thru wifi because the browser works. my working rom is a cyanogen 2.3.3 whatever and the new one is a 2.3.4
I think he's talking about the "Accounts" system data item in the backup. It backs up your Google, Twitter, Facebook, and whatever other logins are in accounts. I've found it sometimes works to restore it, and sometimes doesn't. I usually don't bother and just reenter them.
Oh, yea I never restore anything but apps, just for that reason
We're comin from a pure power source.
yea the thing is that everytime i start fresh , i can never get my account settings on it working. everytime i click sign in, it just gives me connection errors
???? wondering if anyone had any other solutions to this

I am trying to load fresh 4.5.0.1 and I am coming from CM 6.1.1 and also gingerbread test roms.
I have Calkulin's format all zip, and use it to wipe the entire device before moving from rom to rom.
My recovery is the latest amon ra.
Everytime I load a fresh.... fresh rom, it loads perfect, except that when it finally loads to where the phone is usable, all these old apps I used to use are loaded (many of them paid apps). They are old versions, so these apps aren't coming from the android market automatically.
I have all of these apps backed up on my sdcard, under an "apps" folder. I thought maybe it was loading them from this and have tried renaming it, and also totally removing it. These apps still installed automatically.
So my question is.... where on earth are they coming from? I just loaded CM7.0 gingerbread nightly build and these apps don't install. I loaded fresh 5-6 times today and these apps show up every time.
Any ideas? I have a pretty firm grasp on android and my EVO, but this is just baffling me. I bet it is something really simple too...
Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me also add that I have tried using calkulin's format all.zip, and the wipe system data, cache, and dalvik together to make absolutely sure the device is being wiped.
I do not use apps2sd, or have any apps installed to my sdcard.
I think it has to do with you setting up your gmail account when you first power on the phone after flashing. Try resetting it and skip the email setup part. When you click on market it should prompt you to log in.
I'll also add that when you set up your gmail in the beginning there is an option for backup apps and data (something along those lines). I always check the box and I think that's what you did.

This was the only thing I could think of as well. However, I can't seem to find that option for google to backup your apps. It used to be during the setup, which it isn't, and it also was under privacy in settings, which I can't find either.
I am seeing all these apps before I sync my google account.
Maybe I am just going crazy...
I thought of another tidbit to add...
I have flashed a stock rooted rom, and the apps do not install, even after syncing with my google account. Fresh 4.5.0.1 is the only rom this happens on.
This says solved... what was the solution?
When I ran the start up wizard, it asked if I wanted Google to back up my settings and I said no. Why does it still try and install loads of apps I used to use?
Was the solution not to sign in to your Google account during the wizard?
Yeah, it's another FB syncing problem.. I've look far and wide and couldnt find a solution, so here goes...
Rooted runnin Myn's ROM; before the root I did a backup with Titanium and then was able to restall my apps w/ no problem, EXCEPT FB for HTC sense... So I'm trying to get my contacts to sync like I did when I first got the phone, I go to MENU > Accounts & Settings > Add Account > and there are two FB options (FB for android that I got from the market and FB for Sense) ... I can click on the FB for android and it does nothing, just sits there, when I click on the FB for HTC Sense it takes me to the login screen but always says "Warning, the Service is currently unavailable. do you want to try again?"
Ok, so I can get on FB with the Android app and it all works fine.. but when I try to restore the app from TB it just gives the option to restore data and not the app.. And I guess you can't get it from the market right?..
Ok, I know that was long but thanks for the ideas... and I've already tried rebooting, but havent tried to flashing the ROM again, didnt want to do that unless I had to...
One more, when I flash a ROM, how do I restore my homescreen set-ups? - I use Amon Ra recovery and Titanium to B/U apps/data.. thanks again

thanks bros but i edited my first post. i got my pw, but my contacts list is empty.
Did you save your contacts to Google or your phone? If phone: start telling people that you lost their numbers.
i always had it synched...anyways, before i did the update i did backup my contacts on titanium backup...if i root my phone now and download the program, would i be able to pull it off?
can i restore my epic back to the eclair firmware when i had my contacts, before updated to froyo? will it work that way?

No, you can't just restore back to Eclaire, you have to use Odin to go back. Read this to learn how to go back.
if you were rooted and have clockwork and nandroid backed up b4 updating then, u can restore data only and then u might get your contacts back, if not then i don't think u can...
Contacts.
BigBeard86,
First make sure your contacts are there in your google account on the internet. If they are not there, you may be hosed! If they are then you will be able to sync them again.
You could have been part of the problem last week when google lost many email accounts. Just a thought.
There is not a problem syncing as I am doing on my EPIC after I went from 2.1 to 2.2. Things are synced fine.
Fyi, if you had contacts in your old phone that got "ported" to your new Epic in the Sprint store or wherever you bought it, those will get deleted when you upgrade. Mine did the same thing. The reason being that they are not synced with your Google account automatically and are simply stored in your phone's memory.
Did you log into your gmail account on a computer to see if they are there?
Hi everyone
For the last few ROM's I have installed I have always had the "pleasure" of seeing all the bloatware that I had downloaded on the last ROM instantly come back onto this, rendering the new flash basically useless.
I know of the thing where you have to uncheck that box when you sign into Google, but it no longer works. All apps come back as usual.
Is there a way of somehow deleting Googles record of the apps I have installed? Or some other workaround?
Thanks
Flash an aosp rom, install at least an app, than reflash the rom you favour. I don't know any other way, sorry.

IIRC titanium backup has an option to remove links from the market. If you long press on the offending app and select "Disconnect from Market".
I hope it will work for you.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will try those next time I flash.
I found that market apps only download automatically if you sign into your google account on the first boot before you can use the phone, like when you choose your wifi, service provider, language etc. If you just skip the google account login part here, and login later, such as when you first open the market, the apps won't download automatically (although your gmail and contacts will then start to sync). Not sure if it's just me, but this seems to be the case for me everytime.
Hi guys, I'm having a lot of trouble getting my contacts back on my new rom.
Maybe I just dont know how to sync *from* google to my phone, I have always chosen the google option when creating new contacts but have never manually done a contact sync with google. I looked around on my google account but it says I have no contacts. I have a Nandroid backup but cant read the .img files to get to the contacts. I'm currently trying nandroid browser but it keeps trying to load without actually loading it. I have a titanium backup but after re-downloading it to the new rom it doesnt have an option for recover, only backup in my contacts storage. I did a nandroid backup before flashing my new rom, but the new rom has a different kernel which wont let me recover to my old rom without flashing a compatible kernel of my old rom. It was so long ago that I dont even remember what my old rom was, but it was a sense based rom. I've tried to find a 2.2 stock kernel to see if my old rom will load with that but every download link I try is broken or the file doesnt work.
This is driving me insane, everything I try is a brick wall. If you guys have some insight that would help out a LOT.
Contrary to my name, I do have an htc evo 4g.
Any ideas? Does anyone know of a program that will read the .img files on my mac? Can I go to the sprint store to get the contacts? I think I've done that before, but I'm pretty sure they were on my phone as well....
You synced your Gmail account in accounts and sync right?
Yeah, it has the check mark next to contacts. Interesting tho, when I went to my google account nothing showed up in my contacts section... I found my old rom but the updated rom manager wont let me install it. I think they're gone. I also found another app (app extractor) and that didnt get them back either. I guess anyone worth staying in contact with will eventually call me hahaha!!
Make sure you have the right account registered and recheck the contacts sync icon just to be sure.

I am currently having the same issue. I have a rooted evo 4g and I did a factory reset and loaded the 2.3.5 rom last night. I linked up my google account with my phone and i got a lot of contacts back, but not all of them. The one's I really need (mom, wife, etc.) weren't there. I logged onto my gmail account through the pc and it had the same contacts that synced up. It was weird because whenever i manually entered a new contact, i made sure I created it with the google account and I synced the account before I wiped the phone. I gave up, and like the OP said, if they really want to talk to me they'll contact me. I would still like to retrieve my contacts though.
ok guys...ran into this with my wife. When adding contacts make sure you add them as a Google contact. Should be a drop down in the contact page...otherwise they will only be stored as "phone"contacts
Hopefully they are saved with a Nan backup. If so expect them to your computer as a csv file and import to Gmail and next time be sure you are adding a new one as a Google contact
