Hi, I was wondering if I could remap the trackpad button on my Droid Incredible to the home button. Kind of like how if you press the center button on the iPhone, it goes back to the home screen. Is this possible? and I do not want to flash another ROM. Thanks.
Uhm, this phone already has a "home" button.....

can't we just answer the question? sometimes ppl. I would assume if he has a dinc he knows about the home shaped icon under the screen there, with that said I've never seen this question asked b4 but would assume no bcuz of already in place "home" button

I know there is a button, but I want to use the track pad button for the same function.
I think this would be useful as well.

Look at the Optical joy stick wake thread. It's in the keymap file somewhere. I don't know what all you can remap it too but I know they remapped it to wake the device (though inconstantly but thats a sleeping problem)
Just a thought, but would you not loose all of the intended functionality as a result of doing this? For instance, how would you take a picture or record a video?
I have ruby rom so there already is a record button or camera button on the screen itself so it's not a problem.

Redemption rom use to have a tweak that let you hold down the search button key and it would start the camera application. This was done by editing the incredible-keypad.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout and changing the line "key 217 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED" to "key 217 CAMERA WAKE_DROPED" i figure you could add a line "key 232 HOME WAKE_DROPPED" and get the home to open when the trackpad was pressed, but that didn't worked.
I've been trying to remap my trackpad to camera since I rooted my phone and still can't get the working. I hope this thread will spread some light on how to properly remap the DPAD_CENTER button.

Those two aplications remove the need for the trackpad button, however its usefulness doesn't end.there. the.ability to.scroll through text to edit without endlessly, 'push and pray' u get it in the right spot I would.imagine would get lost as well. The trackpad also can seek in some flash players too.

Okay. So this is not possible at all? Because i can edit text by zooming in on the website...

It doesn't seem to be possible... or if anyone has figured out how they don't want to share. Editing the kl files doesn't work like it does for other hardware buttons. Here's my thread asking the same thing:
[Q] Can't remap optical joystick?
would this be possible
if you were to look at the file text for the real home key maybe if you copy-pasted that txt into your trackpad txt file it would do the same function .......just a thought
I have little use for the search button. rather than long hold home in cm7 I'd rather press the search button to do think instead...any suggestions?
Try perfect task switcher in the market. It even gives a an screen shot of what's running. Kinda like in honeycomb. And you can map it to the search button using their settings. Its a long hold of the search button tho.

thanks but I'm looking to not hold anything to bring up the recent apps list. I'm sure many of us use it frequently so it'll just be an extra of productivity to just press than long press
Is there any way to repurpose holding the home button on CM9? It does bring up the app switcher but there's already a dedicated button for that, so it's quite useless. I'd prefer having it open voice search or go to drawer.
Not on CM9 there isn't.. there is a way on liquid and AOKP.

Or you could remove the latest app button and put search button instead(which long press well being up voice). Oh, and this is with CM9

So I love my s3 but one thing I hate and I think a lot of u do as well is the physical home button...the solution to this annoyance of having to press the home button two apps one is LMT the other button savior...both apps need root...I used LMT on my gnex...on my s3 using button savior and its great. I have it set to auto hide and appear on a right edge swipe...with no icon overlay to trigger..the soft keys are customizable in the pro version...its not for everyone but for me makes using the phone a bit easier.

Nice find i hate the physical home button personally wish it was all capacative buttons and in the pro version would i be able to use one my capacative buttons to wake the device isntead of using the home button ?
EDIT-tried the pro version the capacative buttons cant be changed to do another function
I had the same complaint and so I figured out how to re-enable the softkeys that are built into ICS. I used to have a GNex and I really missed the softkeys. The only issue I have is that the touchwiz apps are built using an absolute size meaning that they get cut off when the touchkeys are enabled but Its not a big deal to me.
I actually like the home button.. It's really convenient if your feeding your baby or your hands are full to just tap the button to wake the phone up.

Nova Prime allows you to remap the Home button function.
The home button isnt bad but it doesnt seem like it will hold up for long

I've seen it mentioned there is a mod in some roms that removes the delay the home button has. Is there a flashable version of this mod for a stock rooted rom? Or is my only route to flash one of the roms with it baked in?
Thanks
It's not a matter of that. It's a voice. When you have it enabled for home button double press, it lags the phone waiting for a second press. Just open a voice and disable the home button hot key in settings and then like no lag
