Sorry if its a late pass, but the source kernels for the gingerbread update for a whole slew of new HTC phones, including the incredible 2 are available today from the HTC website.
This allows developers to get cracking on a root method for the 2.3 update right?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I'd be happy for an oc sense kernel as well. All the aosp roms are too buggy for me. But uv and better schedulers would make sense even more perfect and better battery life.

Can't wait for some developers to put out custom sense kernels! This phone is about to smoke.
I just want root on 2.3.

Forget WiFi tether. I just want to be able to use Titanium Backup so I can restore my apps data from my previous phone. Debloating would be nice, but this is my first HTC phone, so I have plenty of exploring around Sense to do in the meantime. Really missing Root Explorer as well
Have to wonder if this has anything to do with the "Revolutionary" news from Unrevoked & AlphaRev TBA.....

Looks promising! I was lucky enough to have gotten my phone with 2.2.1. Hopefully there'll be a soolution for those who shipped with GB.

Considering the Evo and the Evo3d are two completely different phones, I highly doubt that would work for ours
From what I have read it is a gingerbread kernel exploit... which may work.

Ever notice how the rage exploit was used on multiple phones.... unrevoked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Seriously, I know that I'm anxious, but correct me if I'm wrong... Any general exploit, OS or application such as Adobe, can be used to gain root on any system running it. Since we already have eng hboot and recovery for the evo this may be what we have been waiting for.
I don't know a ton about kernels, but I don't think every phone has a different one...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If I was forced to guess - I'd say yes.
They're both coming with the same bootloader, and they're both coming from the GB update. The only real difference between a 3D and a 4G is the kickup in hardware specs. Otherwise, they're the same thing for all intents and purposes.
I kind of always suspected that those GB OTA updated 4Gs would be "saved" once someone came out with a 3D exploit/root.
Getting root is only half the battle. The locked bootloader needs to be fixed, as well. Can't do much with root if you can't mess with recovery at all. At best, it gets you Wireless Tether and root-needed apps back - but nothing in terms of flashing any roms or the like.
Thanks. When did HTC start locking the bootloader?
This may help clear up the confusion regarding root and s-off...

Dammit!!!! Well, at the very least we know there are still weaknesses in HTC's armor.
I just got my replacement a week ago, brand new evo, after my phone fell out of my pocket on the freeway while on my bike, and it came with GB on it, I tried swapping the logic boards on the phones but no go, it was fractured.
Any word on "progress" <---(PROGRESS NOT ETA; hents, 'going good', 'not even trying', 'hit a brick wall', or 'too busy playing with myself') with the new B.S. hboot 2.16.S*thware? Searched and came up with nothing, and been searching religiously everyday and no sign of anyone saying anything. Is every Dev working the 3d over like a $2 hooker and forgetting phones break and have to be replaced?
I am waiting also, my speaker is blown on my 003 hardware EVO, and I'm not going to subject myself to flash withdraws until the new one gets rooted

I just ran fre3vo on my EVO 4G and it said...

I spent an hour messing with the internet setting of my 2 PC's trying to get them to surf. Then desided to do a search and found this post.

You actually don't need a custom kernel.....
The hotspot hack works natively once you hack framework.jar.
And the wireless tether app only requires superuser permissions to work.

I feel the same way. The stock ICS seems to be a lot faster than the MCR's at the moment - not sure why.
The only reason to root is to get things such as Ad Free, Full Backups, Underclock CPU when screen off, Apply Paul's UI tweaks.
Obviously things will grow in the future. If you do it now, then you dont risk the chance of losing the ability to in the future (doubtful that will ever happen with a Nexus)

I think HTC thinks Sense (2.1/3.0/3.5) won't run on the DInc. I also thought that Sense 3.5 was supposed to be the version that didn't require the hardware requirements that 3.0 required, so I would think that would've been the version they could've used instead of 1.0... At this point, I don't think HTC will release any more updates for this phone.
Sad really, cause it's a work-horse.

I think it was more along the lines of this was going to be the last official update so they were not going tto take the time to build 2.1 sense on a device they no longer support. They just wanted to update the base and interlace sense 1.0 and push it out. They did the same with the EVO.

HTC and most manufacturers out there seem clueless. I mean imagine a world where the UOT Kitchen wasn't something developers had to come up with over months of dissecting the phone, but rather a software program that came with your Incredible that allowed you to plug your phone into your computer and make simple color changes and things to personalize your phone.
It's sad really because HTC is so great in some ways - they did afterall, put out the Dinc to begin with. But they do tend to move on to new phones fast...
