Ok so I am trying to flash my old sense backup. (Why doesn't matter) I had RA-Recovery but I have to use Clockworkmod to restore the original stock backup. I downloaded Rom Manager and flashed it and it says that is what is running. I have done this several times but everytime I go into recovery it is still on RA. What can I do?
Download the PC36IMG and put it on the root of your SD. Boot into bootloader and when it asks if you want to update say yes. Now boot into recovery and you're in cwm

what recovery do you use?

nosympathy wanted to know what recovery you're using: Clockwork or Amon Ra?
Reflash your recovery.

So your problem is only that you can't get into recovery? If it still boots up, then just turn it on and use ROM manager to flash clockwork recovery back on the phone. You should be good to go after that.
I tried to update my clockwork to 3.0 , I was on 2.6 , I used rom manager to do the update, everything looked like it updated, rom manager shows that I'm on 3.0 , but when I boot into recovery it says I'm still on 2.6 , I've tried using the rom manager update several times with no results, any suggestions?

Do it manually from the bootloader screen. If i may, I would suggest you switch to amon RA v2.3. It is very simple to install and operate. Download amon RA from http://goo.gl/cgh5e and to install:
Shut down your EVO and then press & hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. When your EVO starts, you will be directed to the Hboot screen where amon RA zip file will be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery.
I'm using cm7 and they recommend staying with clockwork

Download Clockworkmod from http://mirrorbrain.cyanogenmod.com/cm/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-supersonic.img
Install it by using ADB and you must have the Flash_Image file on the root of your SD card. If you don't have a flash_image file, let me know and I'll send it to you via PM
start the terminal app or launch adb
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/ name of recovery file
UPDATE: I sent the flash_image file to you via PM.
im kind of a newb , and these instructions have me lost....

Just S-OFF'd and rooted my wife's Inc2. Does anyone know if it is ok to use ROM Manager to flash Clockwork Recovery after using the Revolutionary tool to install their custom Clockwork Recovery? The reason I want to is because ROM Manager doesn't seem to recognize the Revolutionary CW Recovery that their tool installs.
Does it work? Will it ruin recovery? What's the story?
Revolutionary doesnt push SU unless they updated it to. And you need root to flash recovery with rom manager. If you cant get recovery installed with revolutionary, youll have to install it with fastboot.

Thanks Times,
I used their tool which (after S-OFF) pushes a custom clockwork recovery which I then used that to flash SU onto it. But now I was wondering if it was ok to use ROM Manager to push a clockwork recovery that it could recognize. But it looks like Beenz was able to with success, just looking to see what others have done or know.
Thanks!
I also have the CWM installed by Revolutionary. In ROM Manager, go to menu --> manual flash override. I've been using it with no problems without having to reflash CWM. The only drawback is that every time ROM Manager starts up, it tells me that there is an newer version of CWM available. Not the end of the world.
So reflash or don't, works either way.
Thanks xenakis.

Had him install Touch recovery via goo-manager, rebooted into recovery and wiped data/cache blah blah, install .zip file and gets an error
every CM10 based rom gives some sort of error
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2att" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2att" e:Error in /emmc/cm-9-20120720-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (status 7)
WTF?!??!
Anyone have any ideas ?? THANKS GUYS!

Yes. Instructions can be found with a quick search.
Download mode -> ODIN to stock -> Put ClockworkMod recovery on SD -> Install CWM using stock recovery -> Happy flashing!

No. You don't use ODIN to flash cm10. Error 7 happens because of outdated recovery. Download ROM manager from the play store, install cwm through it and after its installed ...boot into recovery and flash cm10.

Ok, did it, and got the green pass light on odin and had him go back into recovery and ONCE AGAIN, back into the STOCK recovery.
I'm losing my mind with frustration!
Any thoughts?
Thanks

He rooted it I wasn't there when he did it.
It sure seems rooted it.. Super user is there and I already flashed a rom
But again, every CM10 based rom gives some sort of failure
and his recovery goes back and forth on its own from CWM to stock, its very strange
What recovery version does he have?

The one from goo-manager
Whatever goomanger puts on there.
The problem is, if he loads goo manager, tells it to download the recovery and reboots into recovery the recovery will there.
If he reboots a few times and then goes and reboots into recovery it will revert back into the stock recovery.
WTF!! lol
All you need to do is to install ROM manager from the play store and from it you can install the latest cwm recovery easily.

Yes, we installed Rom manager and when he clicks "flash clockworkmod recovery" he gets an error
I gotta wait till he gets home so he can tell me what the error is again
thanks
Ok I forgot, he doesn't get an error message when he goes to install the clockwork recovery via rom manager, he gets a message that he has to choose a phone and in that list there is no GSIII
which model should he choose ? THANKS
Yea so ok, something is seriously screwed here,
I had him flash the CWM recovery the third on this list
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28612095&postcount=558
Had him reboot into recovery and flash that zip, it was successful, I had him reboot into recovery from the touch recovery that we installed from goo-manager and he was indeed in the CWM recovery
Had him reboot the system, then again reboot into recovery from rom manager and sure enough it reboots into the stock android recovery.
Something is seriously wrong here.
I am totally at a loss
It has something to do with the flash counter. Since I'm not sure about it I would have him re root his phone using the toolkit and flash a recovery with the toolkit and see what happens.

Are you trying to root a kies/ota update? Canadian carriers put in an install script that removes custom recovery at every reboot.
Look for install.sh in the root of the phone's file system.

So just picked up a new Galaxy S3 AT&T as my old one had a cracked LCD. I rooted using Odin, boot into recovery Clockwork Recovery, installed superuser and rebooted. Afterwards I tried to go back into the clockwork mod recovery to install roms but instead of CWM I was greeted with the factory android recovery screen instead.. I tried rooting a few times, each time shows clockwork mod recovery but after a reboot it reverted. This use to work on my previous galaxy but this new one isnt taking it..
version 4.1.2 Just got it yesterday.. Any idea?

This is not the AT&T galaxy s3 forum. This is the GT-i9300 (international) forum. Top of teh screen is a "type to find your device" box, which you can use to locate the correct forum.
Or better yet, use the /!\ report button to the top right of your post to report it for a moderator to move it to the correct location.
Lol I did not read your post right :silly:
I do apologize I thought this was the US carrier.

Check for a file named /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on your system partition. That will try to replace the recovery when the phone starts in case it has been corrupted.
Try booting to recovery with Rom manager.

I've tried doing it this way. I have both clockworkmod recovery and Team Win Recovery Project just now.. clockworkmod works via rom manager but TWRP does not.. hmm booting into TWRP takes me back to the default android recovery
Root phone, install super user, restart phone, download rom manager, install latest cwm recovery, reboot in recovery, press reboot phone, disable flash of stock recovery, problem solved.
