[Q] Stock Android Browser - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I came from a droid 1 and liked the stock android browser. I downloaded CyanogenMod and saw the Browser.apk in the app folder. Is this the stock browser or the HTC browser? When I tried to install it, it said ""this is a system application. do you still want to replace it" The thing is, I would like to run both browsers, so I can have the choice. I dont want to ruin my HTC Browser just in case I need it.
Can you help me load both on my phone?
I am running 2.3.3.
Thanks.

ok, so can i run both on the phone ,or is it going to be one or the other?
if its one or the other, anywhere i can get the default htc sense apk so that once i push the stock browser, i can revert to the htc browser. no, i am not rooted, and dont think i need to be now. sure, if i was rooted, i might be able to grab the apk from my phone, but since im not, is there anywhere to grab the apk on the net? i guess i could query anyone with a nandroid backup of the stock rom which might include the stock htc browser.

Since you can't replace system apps without root..and can't root since your on 2.3..I would say no you are out of luck..
If someone could modify the cm7 browser apk to another name throughout the apk, you might be able to do it.

Think I might have confused you ... no need to extract the apk, just insert it into the rom you're using. You can do that with root explorer, or even use ES File Explorer's "root option". You could also use adb to push it.
What I was referring to was, d/ling a rom and extracting it, for the files included. For that, I use 7-zip ...

From your original question, I thought you wanted the browser that comes stock with the Evo, so it's the HTC browser. Here's the aosp browser, which I prefer, by the way ...
I was trying to install this in my Evo. Moved the stock HTC browser from system>apps to my SD incase I wanted it back. Then moved the AOSP into system>apps and tried installing...will not let me install, and now I cant get either browser working. What do I need to do?
Thanks
I'm in the same predicament. I flashed the AOSP Browser.apk via a .zip that somebody created since, for seom reason, I couldn't just push it to /system/app. Then today I updated to the latest fresh (public release of that tomorrow) and my browser stopped working. I pushed the htc Browser.apk and it wont work.
Can't find that zip, also not a fan of the AOSP Browser.apk so I'm stuck.

Try this. Move the AOSP out of system>apps onto your SD or delete it if you dont want it anymore. Then move the HTC back into system>apps. Then reboot the phone. Then go back into system>apps and tap the HTC browser to install. Mine just all the sudden allowed me to install it, Im assuming it was because of a reboot after moving the files around.
hey man, it doesn't work.
I mean when I copy the app to my phone (HTC Desire) which is on modded ROM (which doesn't have Sense UI).
doesn't the app work because of the lack of Sense UI ?
I mean I've tried everything.
even if the app installs, then it just force-closes.
and I've tried extracting Browser app from oryginal Desire rom from Vodafone, I did extract it, but when I "installed it" on a phone through the recovery mode, the phone just didn't see the app.
even though the recovery mode said the app was installed.

Here's the stock browser from the ROM I use. Give it a go.

How can I install the aosp browser?

I just switched roms and this rom has the htc browser and I don't like it. Can someone tell me how to switch to the aosp browser? I like the one that is called "browser"
I have tried just installing it but it fails
Try this, its the one I am using from VirusROM. Put on your SD card and flash it just like a ROM but dont wipe.

Can I ask what are the benefits of doing this? I like how I can copy and paste text on the web and from my knowledge you can't do that on the aosp browser (only can copy/paste the url).

He can do this but he has to remove the current browser. To do that either use root explorer or adb
I didn't have to do anything. I just flashed it like a rom and it worked great. Thanks!

Roms & APKS

Not sure if this info has been posted anywhere. So, I would like to know if there is any way to install APKs from a different rom onto current rom. I am currently running IncRom 1.2, but I have never been a fan of Sense dialers. I would like to install either MIUI dialer or any 2.3 based dialer. Is it possible, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Just download whatever rom you want the apk from and put it onto your new rom? I hope that makes sense as I can't think of a better way to explain ...

I get what you're saying and I've tried that before, but then I always get force closes on phone app. What I've done before is grab apk from 2nd rom, place it in place of apk in current rom. I've tried zipping after that, and not zipping the file. After trying both ways, I reinstall rom, then run into the force close issue. Do I need to reinstall Rom after that? Or am I not even doing this the right way?
You need to fix the permission after you put it into your rom. I use root explorer and its two boxes for the first row then one for the other two.

Sounds good. Will try fixing permissions. Will report back on results. BTW, thanks for the help so far.
I don't think it is possible because the phone apk is tied into the framework. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I fixed permissions, removed current phone.apk and replaced it with the fixed phone.apk. I rezipped rom and reinstalled. Once it was up and running I was right back where I started with the original phone.apk, minus the fc's.

I know this works with the music.apk as I've done it in the past just replacing the stock app with the gingerbread music app and it worked just fine after setting permissions. But now that I think about it more I think I also had to install it just like a regualr app to get all the files in place then set permissions not just replace the file in the system/app folder.
The phone apk ties into other programs. It is not a stand alone flash. There would need to be some code changes to make it work.
Seems like too much work for me. Appreciate the ideas & help you guys offered.

Check out incredibly re-engineered...
Aosp dialer will probably not work on a Sense based roms as Sense is a UI overlayed and pretty deeply integrated into the Android os. You may want to consider one of the dialer options from market...Dialer one is popular. Or you may just want to consider moving to an aosp rom.

I have been trying to install reengineered but ever since I updated clockworkmod I can't. That's besides the point. I have used a few aosp roms but miss out on Sense. Guess I have my cake, but can't eat it. Oh well.

Root and rom

I am wanting to help my dad root and rom his DROID incredible. Is there a one click app to root his phone like I used for my phone or is unrovoked it? Also romming, are there any guides? One more thing, where do you get clockwork recovery and roms? Rom manager?
Sent from my rooted/gingerbread/fast/awesome droid x
To root get unrevoke is a one click process... Once rooted you can get recovery clockmod from rom manager after that you can install any rom from the dev forum just follow the instruction on the thread... if you want like skyrider or virtuous you can get those from rom manager or if you want like sense 3.0 you get those roms from the dev forum...
Hope it helps..
Unrevoked is a one click root and it installs clockwork recovery. For roms, check out the development section, the OP will have info on how to flash.
He also wants nfl mobile from vzw will he be able to have that?

NFL mobile can be downloaded from the market, but a monthly fee is required for the live feed during games.

Root and Rom
Unrevoked is definitely the best way to go, it is sooo easy. Then after its rooted you are pretty much free to do whatever. I used Rom Manager (Premium version, its only a few bucks and a good way to thank the guys who made it) with that you can download and install any incredible roms you want. I recommend Warm z 2.2 , I am currently using their nightlies which are still works in progress but they are awesome. One thing to note when installing the roms is to have all your previous apps and settings backed up, then when you install wipe the cache, wipe the dalvic cache, and wipe the data for best results. Otherwise you may end up in a bootloop, which if that happens don't panic its not the end of the world. As for ways to unroot, they are out there, i just don't know them off the top of my head, nor do i see a reason to after experiencing freedom!

Back it up with TI backup, also if he purchased it then it'll stay in your market under 'my apps'. If it's a free app, then you should be able to just re-download it with no worries?
The market still shows all VZW content on rooted phones, I wouldn't see any reason why that should break.
Just make sure you fully back up your current stock ROM before rooting, you might find you forgot to back up your contacts or have a couple of apps that you forgot to backup and it's easy to restore that and go back to exactly what you had before so you don't miss anything important.
Also the app's don't root devices fully, unrevoked completely unlocks everything on the INC, you can load custom bootloaders and kernels. As far as I know there is no app available, but although unrevoked is a little more of a pain if you don't have the correct drivers at first, it's a better choice.
Hope you get to do everything you're wanting to do with the INC
Half way done! We rooted tonight and are gonna rom soon.

Make a backup in CWM (reboot to it through ROM Manager) and then boot again, use MyBackup Root from the Market to back up all data (photos are not necessary to back up) and then reboot to CWM and wipe data and cache 3x each, then flash cm7 then gapps

No you don't need a different radio, I'm using the stock one (7.28) right now and its working great. And yes, you can use rom manager to automate the process but it seems more reliable to do your flashing manually in recovery.

Hello I am using Sebastian Runnymede 6.1.1 SE and I have some problem with browser he won't open pages he starts to load and stop, so I was thinking maybe replacing browser.apk with some other version will solve the problem so I need few browser.apk for replacement I think version doesn't matter as long as broswer.apk will install so 2.3.3 2.3.5 doesn't matter, tnx.

Go to settings/applications/manage applications, choose all, find browser, push force stop and clear data, reboot phone and try again.
I already did that but after day or even less of using browser it all starts again, it's fresh install and in the first one same thing was happening.
bump.
