Iconimages dissapearing and widget gone - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive recently installed the rom InsertCoin (1.0.8 i believe it was).
I enabled Market Access that came with it and set it to force market apps to be installed on the SD-card.
I continued installing a few apps and placed them on the desktop window. But now the images of those apps disappeared from the desktop.
Could market access be the problem?
Also 1 widget disappeared from the widgetlist.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

Widget apps must be on internal storage to work. Move those apps back to internal and they should work again. I'm not sure about the icons though sorry.

Your solution fixed the widget and the images are also back after a reboot.
What would you suggest me to do? Always install on the sd-card first and then move the app or install on the internal memory first?
However my market access app is locked now. I cant change it anymore :S

What ROM are you using? I am on CyanogenMod 7.1 so I use the simple2ext app to force apps to SD ext. If you're on stock ROM I suggest saving to SD and then just move the ones you need to internal.
PS. if I helped you please press the thanks button

Ive pressed thanks enjoy.
Anyway I got InsertCoin using HBOOT cm7r2.
I cant force apps to do that i think (only with market access)?

I'm not sure how InsertCoin works but there's a lot of a2sd+ zips out there I'm sure there's one that should work with it.
What is market access?

Froyo, apps on SD

Now that a few people have put froyo on there desire, is there an option to install apps on the sd or do you still apps2sd?
thanks
Froyo doesn't like ext partitions so do not install Apps2SD. You will need to format your SD card as FAT32. Just follow the guide for whichever custom Froyo ROM you want to flash and the setup should be explained in more detail.
There will be option to install Apps2SD in Menu > Settings > Applications. Select the app and there should be an available option below to install the app to the sd card.
OR use titanium backup... start the app, select backup/restore, long press on the app you want to move and then select move to SD card... and done!!! Thats how I have been doing it with no problems.
And the app doesn't have to be enabled by the Dev to move to SD card this way!!

Thank you both for the replies.
So which out of the 2 ways would be best to go to froyo from 2.1 using a2sd without looseing any apps?
I presume I can format the SD card after I have moved them to the SD?
Final question, how would I install a new app to the SD if I get it from the market?

are there any froyo roms that have no any problems etc?

Well if you do a backup of your programs via titanium back, the restore them when on froyo, and then transfer to SD using titanium it will all work fine... that's how I did it with no issues... ended up donating to the app ad its awesome!!!

Currently there aren't any with no problems at all... I'm using RichardTrip's Defrost rom and its brilliant... some people have issues with the Bluetooth and also the light sensor doesn't work, but I don't use either and everything else works fine for me

Nope, there is not a Froyo ROM that is 100% fully functional (yet).

Thanks. This method transfers the existing apps to the SD, but how will be able to install new apps to the SD?
Will I have to keep using this method?
Lastly have developers started updating there apps to make them froyo compatible?

Moving apps to SD card

Just installed both new Leedroid an pinky roms and am having a terrible time with low on space warnings, when I didn't use to with same apps. Two questions
1. I installed with rom manager and ticked the wipe option, is there anything else I need to check or wipe etc
2. Is there a way to move apps to sd where the option doesn't exist in the standard application manager?
Cheers

Format card to fat32 on pc,install Rom manager to desire from market.use partition card tab in Rom manager.
Could tho depend on type of card tho

Cheers for the response, but it would mean wiping card, which is a problem for me. Any other answers?

If you mean it's greyed out, try this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742379&highlight=google+earth
worked flawlessly for me
Looks good, a little drastic though. May give it a try when I get back to a pc in a few days. Was hoping for something I could try in the field. .... literally!

In the thread linked above, there was something to try with the terminal emulator for rooted phones, that might be of use to you?

[Q] can't install apps !

I flashed the lastest cm7 rom
And use the dt app2sd
At the beginning, i was able to restore all apps by titanium
However, when i try to download and install apps from market,
My phone rebooted itself, but it was not a complete reboot,
It rebooted from the opening of my theme i have installed.
Then i tried to install apps from sd card through file manager,
But failed again, when i pressed "install" , it rebooted in the way as said above.
Then i rebooted my phone by myself, it rebooted in a normal way.
but i found that all the apps in sd card were gone.
What's happening?
My sd card is "JT 8 gb' (i bought it in hongkong) ,
It didn't tell me which class is it,
When i use card reader to put things into the card,
it is about 3~4mb/s
Is the above apps installation problem related to my sd card?
I think that you will obliged to do a full wipe and then install Cm7 a second time. If you have still this problem, change your memory card if you have another

i have already do a full wipe before flashing the rom.
And i have been flashing the rom many time and the problem still exist.
Is thiis really the sd card problem or apps problem
You can download a second time the google apps from Cyanogen website. There is maybe a problem with your market.. (I know that Market don't work in the past with some custom roms but I don't remember witch one.. )

but the problem is after i have failed to install apps from market,
i tried to install apps from my sd card but still fail.
You can perhaps use another rom like Leedroid 2.4.1 and try if market and install apps work

integration of downloaded apks into rom.

dudes does any one know how to integrate any downloaded apks( those with a backup copy) into cm7 #177 or any other rom from the phone itself( conditioning that the rom is currently installed and running) . i know ther is an option in titanium backup latest version, but it implies only to integration of updates of system applications only. but i need to integrate downloaded/ installed app to the current rom. is there any apps available in market or some where else which can do what i need? i ask becose i know rom cooking is a hard process and that needs an update flashing. so i just want to avoid it. or can i do it with adb with a mounted system partition? can any body help me?
to moderators:- if i posted this thread in wrong section, pls move to appropriate section. as i know it is a question topic, but i put it here due to the reason that it is some thing about rom cooking/ updating.

not exactly adding into zip. but need to add into the currently installed rom, all the way from phone itself( more convenient) or from a computer.

I tried this moving of downloaded apk to system app long time back.
It has both positive and negative effects. By moving an app to system , it loads everytime the system boots making the startup slower. And by moving apps to system u don't need to reinstall those apps on hard reset.
To move a downloaded app to system just move the apk from /data/app to /system/app and change its permissions to rw-r-r. Then clear the application data and cache (also dalvik cache). Then restart the phone to check whether the app is working or not. One thing is recommended. Donot rename the apk. Most of the apk names in /data/app will be like com.xyz.abc. Eventhough most apks I tried worked with any name.
And inspite of doing all these some apps will not work when moved to system partition. Perfect examples are "x-plore" , "swype" , "operamini".

ya i checked. and my opera mobile force closes when i integrated it. but i think the startup can be removed using some startup manager

Switching ROMs: move apps back to phone?

I want to switch back to CM7 from Oxygen. Is it a good idea to move all my apps back to the phone before switching, so they're not all floating around on the SD card after I switch? I'm not going to wipe the SD card.

Installed apps? If you change ROM to a totally different one, full wipe is required, which means all your apps will disappear. If you dont want to install all your apk-s copy them into the .zip. I keep all the apps in a folder on the SD-card to install after ROM- change.
Use Titaium Backup you can find it in the market(free app) but with the Pro version restoring your apps is MUCH easier
I'm not talking about restoring apps after installing a new rom (although I appreciate the help on that too). I just don't want the apps that I've transferred to the SD card to be left there.

It won't be a bad idea what you wanna do.
Swiftkeyed from ICS with Transparent XDA App
Or maybe I'll just uninstall them all...

I have read somewhere that you can delete all folders from the SD except the ones you have copied (photos, music, etc.)
