Does anyone know why i can't save "Yo" or "yo" in my personal dictionary?
I can manually add it, or hit the green option when i type, and it never saves. It always tries to get me to hit "to"
very annoying
If you go into the keyboard settings there is an option to add words (assuming stock keyboard)

Yea I tried that. I did it thru the settings / personal dictionary. As well as hitting the option while texting to add word. It says word added but everytime I type it " to " gets highlighted in green. It's really annoying. Anyone else ? I even see it in the dictionary list. It just won't use it by default when I type it

Is there anyway to make swype not autocorrect when I'm typing one letter at a time but allow it to autocorrect when I'm swyping?

Go to Swype settings as indicated in above post, or access them directly from the Swype keyboard, by hitting the flashing Swype key (the finger icon) at the lower left hand corner of the keyboard, then select "Options" from the popup.
Once in the Swype settings, go to Word suggestion, and uncheck "Auto-correction". This is what you want.
This is on by default on the newest beta, where it past versions it must have been off (or functioned differently somehow). I had the same issue, where Swype kept auto-correcting when "tap" typing individual letters, and usually changing it to a word that was nothing close to what I was typing. Especially for names, abbreviations, acronyms, etc. I kept wondering for a few days why Swype was doing that, then I found the proper setting change.

ok i thought if i uncheck auto correct, it would also stop auto correcting my swype words
Also is it possible to change the layout of the keyboard? Like make the spacebar bigger and getting rid of the voice button?

Nope, word prediction while swiping will not be affected.
So I've asked this before; searched xda, searched Google, found nothing. On my old hero the developers had modified the stock mms app to have the option of an enter key instead of the smiley button. I have yet to find such a mod for the evo. Please help! Seems like something that a lot of people would like..
Alternative mms apps work for a while but they always end up pissing me off with links to other apps or other unnecessary crap.
Thanks!

I have the same question, why is the keyboard different based on what you are using. I have an enter key when doing emails, but when doing text -- no enter key, only smiley face. Is there a reason for this....is there a way to turn "on" so I always have an enter key.
I have searched but I have not found it.... I am sure there is a reason, but I do like having an enter key.
I use swift keyboard and it has an enter key for text messages.

There are different keyboards that apps can call for.. for example when an app needs your email address, often it will show a keyboard with an @ instead of a ,
The mms app just happens to call for the Smiley keyboard so you can quickly make emoticons. The HTC hero devs made a replacement mms apk that gave you the option to pick your keyboard but I haven't found anything like that so far on the evo

So I dont know if it is just me but has anybody noticed that swype does not work right in the internet browser. Say you want to make a post much like I am right now in a text box much like the very one I am typing in right now. Well when I am typing along all the words are to together just like they would be if I was typing in the address bar. Its as if swype does not know that I am not typing in the address bar and am in a text box instead. Any way its a bit annoying having to have to hit the space bar in between each word. I would not mind if I was on a full size keyboard and not swyping my words but with one hand and my thumb I dunno kinda pain in the arse.
Perhaps im an idiot and dont have a setting on. I did check the auto spacing between words in the swype settings. It works great as when I am text messaging but does not work in the internet browser. Anybody eles notice these problems?
I noticed this too, in certain fields that it will not auto space.

I think this has always been the behavior with Swype. I guess it assumes you're entering a url instead of using the field to search.

check the swype forums it is a known buy they haven't fixed in months...no idea why they let it continue should not be hard to fix
One of the things that drove me crazy with the new gesture keyboard was it's inability to allow me to use curse words...
Settings ---> Language & input ---> Personal dictionary
Touch the + symbol at the top right.
Add whatever words you want and it'll start showing up in your gestures! Another fun trick is adding a word like "email" and giving it the shortcut to your actual email. When you type in email you'll also have the option to select your actual email address in the suggestion bar. This also helps with curse words that'll default over normal words... Add the regular word and shortcut the curse word so that you can quickly use it in the suggestion bar.
Thanks, now I can swear like a proper pirate again. Arrr!

Oh right this works. My biggest gripe with the keyboard is that it is not possible to correct a word in the middle of a sentence. For example, if i want to change a word in the middle of a sentence, I can't double click the word and see possible variations of the word. I have to select the word and retype it entirely.
How do you access all the emojis. There are only keywords for a handful of them but there are many more emojis compatible with android.

Great tips. How do i preserve my dictionary after i flash a new ROM?
How do you disable personalized data? I accidentally pressed the back button when I was prompted to change the settings on my Note.
Go into language and settings.
The into the keyboard you enable it for.
The in personalized data section.

yeah, i tried to search it in language and input settings but its not there.
Predictive text.
It is the one you should be looking for.

Back when i was able to disable personalized data (first ever boot), even if predictive text was on it (text box for usernames/emails) did not give me any suggestions. Like showing a drop down box of previously typed information from other apps. Am i making sense? Lol. I dont speak english very well.
Its like a different setting. Its similar though. Anyways ill just disable predictive.
But if anyone knows how. Please reply hehe
EDIT: found the personalized data option after activating predictive text. Just press Predictive text. then that's it. lol. stupid much..
