How do I enter command when in fastboot mode (Desire)?

Hello.
I'm pretty sure i bricked my HTC desire yesterday when trying to flash LeeDroids Mod. My phone hangs at the three green HTC letters and it has been like this the whole night. I've tried taking out the battery and things like that but it still hangs. Even when triyng to do a recovery. So i searched the forum to find out how to unbrick the phone and i found a nice thread that explains how to get acces to the SD again and then how to unbrick the USB connection. But I havent been able to try this out yet since i cannot find out how to enter commands when in fastboot. I know I need to be connected with a USB-cable to the PC, but what else do I have to do?
Hope someone can help 'cause I would really love to have my HTC Desire working again so that i can try out more cool FroYo mods from this lovely forum.

you have to use adb, google the android sdk and start there
All you need to do is boot into FASTBOOT, plug in your USB and run an RUU to get back to stock (assumg one is available for your phone) and then root again, had to do it myself the other day
you do not have to do ANY of this
if you are using clockworkmod or any custom recovery then there is the option to mount USB storage in which you can put on a backup or any other rom onto your sd card, unmount usb storage, and flash it, all in one.

Do you have the fake-flash zip file renamed as update.zip and at the root of your SDCard?

Have you booted the phone while holding the volume down and then selecting recovery, then when recovery boots, press volume up and power then select "apply update.zip" ?
The problem is that when i choose recovery it freezes aswell. The screen with the phone and the little red triangle freezes, so i cannot choose recovery.

So do what I said here...to get into FASTBOOT hold back and power it on
What is RUU?
Edit: Maybe I need someone to make a step by step noob guide? Im totally lost. Ive flashed my Desire lots of times before and ive never had a single problem, but right now i really dont know what to do and how to do?
If you're asking questions about RUU's then maybe rooting wasn't for you. It's basic stuff. You need a grasp of the basics before trying something advanced!
Basically it's the official ROM file from HTC/your phone vendor...
Okay. Thanks. I thought that RUU was something like that but I just couldnt see how i should be able to acces any files right now. As i wrote before the phone freezes at the picture of a phone with the red triangle, and i am not able to get any further that that. I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me how and what to do next?
I had the same problem a few days ago. For me it worked to just go through the rooting process again, you can find the steps on modaco (just step 1 of r6), I can't link them at the moment I'm at work and it seems I can't open modaco from here.
Anyways if you follow step 1 you can access the recovery again and the phone will boot past the HTC logo screen.
Also these steps are well documented on modaco.
Try this first since it will save you the step of running the RUU, which I wasn't able to (somehow the software complained my battery was below 30%, which it wasn't)
Good luck hope this solves it for you.

You don't need to go into recovery! boot into FASTBOOT and then leave it at that. Plug the phone in and it will then say FASTBOOT USB. Then run the RUU your phone came with originally. You don't need to go anywhere near Recovery
I am pretty certain that ive found a solution now. I deserve a fist in the nuts for being so stupid not to press volume up + power when trying to get into recovery mode. But fortunately dnlgee asked if i had remembered this. Now that ive gotten this far i should be able to solve the rest. I will however return if im still unable to solve it.

Ah I missed that part, I couldn't access recovery either. Only thing left working was fastboot for me. All other options would hang on the HTC logo screen.

Stuck in Boot Loop

I'm currently stuck in a boot loop, with no way to access my rom or recovery. I can only access bootloader. The boot loop began happening soon (around 2hrs) after flashing MIUI; The rom was running, and out of nowhere it just began cycling. Any ideas on how I can get out of this boot loop?
Edit: I'm no longer in a boot loop after installing a different full system PC36IMG.zip. Instead after the initial splash screen my evo goes black and vibrates 5 times, then my green LED starts flashing. It stays this way until I remove the battery.
So far I have tried:
Flashing RA's recovery image using fastboot. (The flash was successful)
Using RA's recovery PC36IMG.zip. (The installation was successful)
Using an RUU file renamed to PC36IMG.zip (The installation was successful)
Using a Sprint Lover's file renamed to PC36IMG.zip (The installation was successful)
For all of these the process of installing and flashing went fine. Yet when I would turn on my phone it would just go right back into the boot loop.
*I've been editing this post as I've tried new things, so you don't need to read through the thread to help me.
Anyways I'm at my wits end here, pretty worried, and phoneless, so any help would be amazing.
Have you tried ADB from bootlaoder or fastboot. May be able to get recovery that way.
I'm trying to do a bit of research, but am a little confused on what adb is. It's part of the android sdk? I can't seem to find it, or know how to launch it. Is there a thread somewhere that covers it? I'll keep doing my research, thanks for the tip.
Its a command terminal but if you are not familiar with it you probably wont get it right away! I am just starting to learn this myself. VERY VERY useful tool though! Here a link.......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
I really appreciate you trying to help out. I'm trying to figure it out right now, but how do i get to the terminal? Theres a couple of different guides I see, but none seem to be while in bootloader. The thread you showed me seems to be mostly commands. Sorry for the hassle, I really appreciate you helping me. I wouldn't be quite so pestering if I wasn't without a phone, haha.
ahhh, also, if adb is an exe that opens up in cmd.exe (which i'm starting to think), its not included in my sdk.
edit 2: haha, ok i just found out i have to install adb through sdk, from a little txt file. sorry. i'll get back to ya soon!

Jeez sounds like you have a better grasp on this than me already! LMAO
haha, well i'm not too sure. Have you gotten you're evo to be found? Right now while using adb, I'm just told "device not found." All my drivers should be properly installed because I had to install them when I used unrevoked. So I choose fastboot on my evo, and then it shows up on my computer as "android 1.0" under devices and printers... but adb doesn't find it.
I was told to get rid of my drivers and re install the recommended ones before starting. It recognized mine right away. YouTube also has nice how to videos on ADB.
Is there any way you can point me to the recommended drivers? I think that second link you gave me is the same as the first also.
Edit: Every single guide I see on the internet about adb, says use debug mode within the actual rom. However I'm obviously not in a rom, i'm in bootloader, and for the life of me can't get adb to find my phone.
Edit2: Ok, so maybe I can only use fastboot. Right now when trying fastboot it just says "waiting for device," even if it didn't say that, what would i need to do to get on the road to recovery?
So I'm starting to get scared. At first I figured this was something I could fix... and now I'm not positive it is. I've used fastboot from terminal, trying to flash recovery and it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed)" I'm starting to get desperate, does anyone have any ideas?
I'm sorry to bump this, but I'm really struggling here... because I'm phoneless and all , I worked at this for 5 hours last night from 9-2, and now I'm at it again... and very worried. I've read that theres almost no way to completely brick your phone, but I'm starting to feel like I did. It seems like no matter what I flash it just keeps boot cycling. Thanks for the help.
go to the bootloader and ruu it
I have... I took the ruu file and renamed it PC36IMG.zip, went into bootloader and it went through all the steps with "OK"s, rebooted, and went right back into the boot loop.
Specifically I used "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip" from here,
http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/RUU/
Is there a specific number version of RUU I should try? I just tried the most recent.
You have to use the ruu that matches your radios/software etc. How did this boot loop start? Give us all your phone info, rom, hboot version, radios etc.

I flashed a CM7 nightly, from CM, about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, still using the same nightly (build 1 or something) my phone seemingly out of nowhere rebooted - I wasn't even using it at the time. When it went back into CM7 it acted as if I had never linked a google account to my phone. The first thing that came up was the android google apps screen. Anyways, I decided I wouldn't stick with CM7 until at least an RC was out, so I wiped data, cache, and davlik and flashed MIUI. I used it for about two hours, didn't do anything out of the ordinary, and once again seemingly out of nowhere it rebooted... except when it did it went into a cycle and never reached MIUI, and wouldn't go into recovery, I could only access bootloader.
Anyways, I'll tell you what bootloader says my phone versions are, but I do believe the info all changed this morning when I flashed the ruu file.

Are there any other thoughts on how to get on my feet?
In addition to booting an RUU file as PCIMG36 I've also tried a Sprint Lover's image as PCIMG36. Even though both installed properly, my phone still staid in the boot cycle afterwards for both.
I've been suggested, and have seen other users suggest on other threads, to try adb commands, but I don't know if i can access adb while the phone is in bootloader. I have however accessed fastboot, are there any commands that might help me? If not, can I use adb while in bootloader? Thanks.
Well I tried a new PC36IMG.zip file and I'm no longer stuck in a boot loop... instead as soon as the HTC EVO 4G splash disappears my phone goes black and vibrates 5 times, and my green LED flashes.
Good? Bad?
This would be the 300th something thread I've read on this subject and this is exactly were I'm at with my EVO minus the last post... I was using warms2p2 with the hdmi kernal everything working fine then I went to change my notification ringtone and bam went into boot loop and never came out. SOOO! it would be nice to save this unit... any help forum members would be great I've tried every RUU out there from fastboot from sd card nothing.
Very intesting that this thread ended this way... please share if you think you got this whooped. Thank you in advanced.
Love the revival of old threads...but did you try changing the kernel?
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip 3.70 RUU, just rename to PC36IMG and flash in the bootloader if you want to run the RUU.

[Q] Stuck in recovery boot loop HTC Desire GSM ~ ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED!!

Severe panic!!
I rooted my Desire which was running 2.2 Froyo on the O2 UK network using unrevoked and it worked fine without any issues. Custom recovery by ClockworkMod.
The next day I then decided i needed to turn S-off so found a guide and tried installing unrevoked forever from a zip on the root of the SD and i got 'installation aborted error 42'. Tried again the next day but before i got started i decided to give myself re-assurance that i wouldnt lose anything on the device so i entered recovery and chose restore.
Big mistake! My handset then rebooted and got to the O2 splash screen. It wont move from there. Pulled battery out and tried again. Same. I assume i havent bricked the device and it is just stuck in a boot loop?
Since then i have removed all my user data from the SD card and 'cleared storage'. Tried installing an miui rom and again 'installation aborted'.
Can anyone clarify why this is happening and point me in the right direction?
I am a noob and would appreciate any help on this.

Try to bring you phone to stock.
Download RUU .
Turn your phone on in fastboot (hold back button and press power - when your phone is off).
You have to have HTC Sync installed.
Run the exe file.
After that repeat the rooting and s-off-ing procedure.
Can the RUU be flashed in clockwork mod recovery or does it have to go through HTC Sync?
If it cannot be flashed in Clockwork Mod, I presume he has to
Connect phone via USB to PC,
boot into Fastboot as you mentioned
run HTC Sync
and then run the Ruu.exe file (does HTC Sync recognise this filetype and then do it's thing?)
And that's it? (Just that it seems too simple!)

You might need a goldcard. Try without one for now.
Right I'll let him know to give that a go. If it doesn't work I might pick your brains around the goldcard option.
Massive thanks so far for your advice!

Hello. I think you wanted to say you chose back-up, otherwise you couldn't have chosen the restore option since you don't have any restore points.
So if you hit back-up and your phone stuck in the boot loop it is normal. This is a problem because of the root and the fact that making a nandroid back-up will mess something in the NAND. But restoring the back-up you just made should resolve all the problems. I had the same issue and by only restoring the back-up I've just made got me working back, and still had the ROOT.
I don't think you need to run a RUU just for this.

I should have made clearer sorry. After i rooted successfully i entered recovery and hit backup option and it told me it had created a backup successfully. I had been using the phone as normal for another day before deciding to s-off and at that point i thought to 'test' my backup to make sure it had done it so i chose restore thinking anything i have downloaded on the phone since the back up will disappear and was expecting the restore to bring my phone back to the settings i had the previous day but the restore failed and thats when it got stuck in the boot loop.
Mine did the same thing except, instead of trying to s-off it just decided at one point that it felt like it, literally, I wasnt even using it at the time it was just charging. I did downloaded the stock ruu, it was linked earlier. Put it in fastboot, run the ruu and boom, however i did it on my goldcard, so make one if it doesnt work without it. Good luck.

P.s. What's the easiest way to s-off? Also whats the correct way to create a complete back up restore point and then actually restore to that point without getting to this stage again?

***NEW ISSUE***
Since i have my phone back to it's original state and have lost root access. The idea is to root again via Unrevoked, which requires me to update the Android 1.0 driver (in device manager under other devices) to the Android Bootloader Interface. However, DM now does not say 'other devices - Android 1.0' and instead it says 'Android Devices - MY HTC'. So i decided to completely uninstall HTC Sync and all it's drivers and then rebooted PC, reinstalled SYNC and then uninstalled again but this time leaving the drivers in. Rebooted again and repeated the process but it still recognises the device as 'MY HTC' instead of 'Android 1.0'.
Could it be that this is fine, it's just the new way since i am using the updated version of HTC sync now? Or is this going to cause an issue? I am now playing it a lot safer to avoid anymore issues and quite happy to try something you may suggest...

Same here. But everything is working fine.
So put phone in usb debug mode and "only charge" mode, start abd, connect phone via usb to pc and type
Code:
adb devices
. If your desire's serial number is shown, everything is fine.

To start adb issue: "adb start-server" command without the quotes
To stop it: "adb kill-server"

Thanks for the suggestions surrounding ADB but i guess im too much of a noob for that part, it seems massively complicated, im sure it doesnt to you guys. Isnt there an easier way? Or considering my above quote, can i just assume that its all working fine and go ahead with the root or should it really need to have 'Android 1.0' in device manager?
Im pretty certain this all happened becuase the first time i rooted i had followed instructions and uninstalled HTC Sync (not the drivers) which had been on my system since i got the phone lat year. Since i had to reinstall to flash the RUU im certain its an updated version of HTC Sync thats causing this issue. But is it really an issue?

Help with root please yes ive read and done alot!

Hey all and sorry for this thread as i know you ahve probably seen them before but for the past week i have been trying to root my Wildfire S which was given to me after i sold my other phone.
Now i have read many posts and tried many things but so far i have gotten no where and i have no idea what im doing wrong, i have been to the HTC website and signed up i have then downloaded the right exe file (o2de/en if i remember right) started to run that then when the phone reboots the applicatin dies and the white screen i get when i unplug the cable is "ruu..." and thats it no other text.
I have also tried installing zip files onto the sd card and running them but these have failed too specially when it comes to the root.zip al i get is a red triangle with an explanation mark (up +power > install from sd = nothing)

Yeh tried that tutorial before and always got stuck on this part: C:\Users\[YourLoginNameHere]\AppData\Local\Temp\{82B23FCD-D5D0-45CA-A3A2-5350D3926551}
Anyway finally got round it by using CCleaner and finding the right app an now installing the SDK. Dunno why i didnt think of clearing out the temp folder before doh! Will report back if i have another issue. =)
Nope stuck, this was the issue i was having before. I thought i just fixed it but nope not getting any further.
I am upto fastboot oem get_identifier_token, the issue i had was i would plug in the usb cable get 3 short fast beeps from the computer (not recognized) which i have since fixed so it makes the correct beep. But soon as i do the following:
cmd
cd \
cd android
fastboot oem get_identivier_token
I get "waiting for device".
I will have another shot tomorrow been a good hour now iphone was alot easier to do lol
Guess im staying unrooted then im stuck =(
waiting for device means it's not connecting in fastboot mode.
you need to boot the phone by holding vol- and power, then after it's finished reading the sd card, press power again to select fastboot mode (the writing at the top should say "fatboot usb" in re writing.
is your phone bl-unlocked or s-off? because i think you need one of those first before you can try flashing custom recovery?
::EDIT::
if you're having problems with HTCdev site etc....I think there was a tool floating around somewhere that could unlock bootloader without HTCdev site....
::EDIT2::

try this tool for BL-unlock without htcdev.

Stuck on Samsung screen

I saw a couple people had the same issue that im now having but none of there solutions solved my problem
i wiped my GS3 for ATT tried to go back to a stock with root rom and when it rebooted it now just hangs at the samsung logo at boot tried re-flashing via odin with no luck also tried flashing a CWM.tar since i cant get into stock or CWM recovery to flash from there is there something im missing i know its late and maybe my brain isnt working like it should
Solved the problem myself.....and rather then just say i figured it out ill share how i did this since i watched countless videos and read endless amounts of threads and since none of them helped mem
First also try t put your phone into stock recovery mode and wipe your phone then flash this should take care of things if it doesnt try what i tried below
and i hope this can help someone else out there who has the same problem that i had all you have to do is the following i did this with obviously an AT&T model should work with others but as always try at your own risk.....
First make sure your battery has a charge even if its stuck on the boot screen its still charging....
then download KIES from samsung update it and make sure you have the latest version.
Next plug in your phone if your stuck at the samsung screen your computer will recognize your phone still at least it did with mine.
Once your done with the above open up KIES goto the top and then TOOLS and Firmware upgrade click on that enter your phone model (ATT SGH-I747) i dont get this part but next it will ask you for your SN and for some reason it doesnt recognize the SN use your IMEI
Now it should ask you a couple questions tell you its wiping your device and you will lose everything etc.....but then it will download the latest FW and begin to install everything and in about 20-25 mins everything will be back to stock
Nvm.. misread.
I'm stuck too...and Kies can't find the phone. Anyone have any other ideas? I can't even get into recovery...only download mode.

Yes, all drivers are installed because that's how I ODIN flashed it in the first place! Just stuck on the damn Samsung screen and I can't get Kies to connect to the phone. Not in Download Mode or when it's just stuck on that screen.
you can just hold VOL UP, HOME , POWER same time enter stock samsung recovery mode and scroll down select wipe data and cache and reboot u should good to go....

With the phone off, hold down VOL UP + HOME + POWER until the phone vibrates. Then let go of the power button. When you see the blue text in the top left corner of the samsung boot screen, let go of the other 2 buttons

Okay, this brought the menu up for me, but I removed the data, cache, and reset the phone and it is still not working. Also, my phone just goes black after the Galaxy Samsung S3 logo, but the blue light in the top left is still on. Can anyone help me out?
P.S. Sorry for reviving this thread if it is too old.
Edit: I should also mention that I can still hear the sound of the phone booting up (the sound that typically occurs when the phone is on the white loading screen). However, the screen is black at this point.

You're going to have to tell us what you did (changed, flashed, etc) before all this so that we can help you

Ah, sorry about not providing enough information. Please keep in mind that I am very inexperienced and I may get some things incorrect just due to that. To my understanding, I went to try and root my phone, but beforehand I used the guides below to get my phone ready for the root (yes I do realize at this point that using these outdated guides was a clear mistake and I should have come to XDA instead). I flashed my phone to the stock kernel using the file that site provided, and then encountered the problem above. In my panic I have tried to restore the phone through several methods, but every time I try to load anything onto it with Odin, it doesn't complete until my phone restarts (and my phone won't boot up completely) so I can't get the pass message. Interestingly enough I did manage to get clockwork mod installed as that is what shows up when I try a secure boot using the methods that you described.
Ah, I am unfortunately not allowed to post links. The guides were off of Android Authority.
If there is any other information needed to help me please let me know and I will do my best to obtain it.

Sounds like you need to clear your cache partition and clear your dalvik cache. There are several guides on this site to help you. Choose the one that is most appropriate to what you are trying to do and follow it EXACTLY. There is one to start. Follow it from the beginning.

When nothing else works start over from search. You cab use download mode? First make sure you got right drivers as that can mess up Odin. Use one in my Sig if you want. Then flag stock recovery with root someone nice will part a link to it I'm on my phone can't do it. Well fix your phone

Okay now I am running into another problem. I have tried downloading the drivers from many different places and they always seem to be correctly downloaded. That being said, I can't install the drivers after I plug my phone into the computer (after downloading and installing Samsung USB drivers). Therefore, I cannot access my phone storage to put the root zip file on it. I was still able to download the custom recovery.
Now I have gone to a different computer, and the drivers seem to install correctly, but the phone still does not appear under my computer.
Edit: I do already have a root zip file on my phone from my earlier attempt, but I install it and my phone still doesn't load up. Also, Odin still recognizes the phone.
Edit 2: Windows says that the drivers cannot recognize the device. Edit 3: "Hardware ID Missing"
Bump
Sorry, I really need help for this. I can't install the MTP drivers even through using some of the tips on this site. That seems to be the problem with me accessing the phones storage from my computer. Does anyone have an ideas for what else I could do? Should I just take it to the store and hope they can fix it?

go to your device manager on your computer, locate samsung drivers for your device, uninstall them
restart your computer
then plug in the phone and lets it reinstall by itself
Use my drivers in my signature
They are last good damaging drivers. Don't update them but install them and plug phone in with no internet. after install plug internet in. There good stable drivers
