Just installed CM10 for my frist time. Like it but a few features I liked in stock are gone. Specifically you can't kill all open apps in the task manager at the same time and you need to manually remove each open one... Huge pain in the ass in my opinion.
I searched the play store from some third party ones but it seems like most of them are designed to work with Gingerbread. Can someone recommend a good solution that will kill all open apps at once?
Thanks kindly
I'm looking for a rom with NO phone or google apps.
Stripped down to just the OS and Play Store
I want to use the phone as a video recording device and looking for a slim down setup.
thanks
There's lots of trouble without certain Google things.
But, you can root. Get titanium backup and freeze Google apps. ONLY the obvious ones, nothing system related. Or you'll be in a mess.
I don't even know if phone can be frozen. I kinda doubt it.
But....you can use a launcher, like Nova and get rid of all the icons you don't wanna see. And hide them from app drawer too.
That's about all you can do.
Hi, I recently just upgraded from my T-989 to a OnePlus One. I've been thinking about wiping my S2 and installing a low-resource ROM and using it as a media player.
I know that using an app to uninstall system apps, you can find things like
Would it be safe to uninstall particular things that I won't use? I'm referring to SMS apps, Phone/Messaging Storage, com.android.smspush, etc.
I really just want to purpose this as an mp3 player with a web browser. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what ROM I should look at and recommendations for apps?

There isn't really any roms that comes with Apps you needed, but I guess you could try this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/development/rom-kernel-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-t2885259
It has already installed a root access, which is what apps that uninstall system apps needed
Try this app to uninstall your system apps:

Hope this helps:fingers-crossed:
Is there a way to disable the ASUS apps (for example: Launcher, Calling Screen, Dialer & Contacts, Gallery) and go to the default android apps for these?
I don't care for the Gallery, the Calling Screen, etc. and I'd like to get to the standard android apps to do these functions.
Can I do this without rooting? Is there some way to turn these apps off? Are there apps that I can install instead? Or am I stuck with the ASUS UI unless I root?
Thanks.
yeap. uninstall, freezing must be on rooted devices.

Nope. Don't understand that response at all. Sorry.
Yeah facing this too
You need to root your device first. Then install Titanium Backup Pro and freeze all the Asus Apps you don't use. Do not uninstall them because then you won't be able to use OTA updates easily.

Thanks, I understand that. Stuck with the ASUS UI unless I root.
You don't need root to use a different launcher. There are ones that can hide apps as well. Most "stock" apps are now Google Apps and not AOSP anymore (Photos, Camera, Calendar, Hangouts, GEL, etc)

Yeah but it's also worth noting that if you have a custom recovery installed you'll not be able OTA update anyway

GEL is interesting. Google Experience Launcher. Is that the same of the Google Now Launcher or something that has to be side-loaded?

Hi Everyone,
I've been searching the site and online for an answer, but no luck.
I have the Galaxy S20+, but this is really a question that pertains to all Galaxy phones. A lot of the Samsung phone's native apps (Camera, Gallery, etc.) will have a "N" icon in Settings, telling you there is a new update for the app that you can install. For this, you have to go through the Galaxy Store. I have disabled access to the store and most other Samsung apps I don't use (Bixby, etc.) because I don't want to sign up for anything Samsung and don't want to create an account with them since I already have my Google account attached to the phone.
Now, going to the Google Play store from the the Camera or Gallery apps, it shows that I have them installed and even allows me to open the app from their store. But unlike other apps that I actually downloaded from Google Play, it won't give me the option to update from Google. It just lets me open the app.
So my question in short is can I, or how can I, update these Samsung apps through the Google Play Store instead of the Galaxy Store? If they show up in the Google Play Store, there must be a way since they are linked.
Side note, I can't uninstall most apps (especially the Camera and Gallery apps) and them re-download them from Google Play, in case anyone was curious.
Any direction or help will be much appreciated. Thanks!
I did an update to the Samsung Members app in the Play Store just the other day after originally installing it via the Galaxy Store (S20U).
I know some of the Samsung apps appear on the Galaxy Store before they reach the Play Store and for apps I've checked I have both Uninstall and Open buttons in both stores. Don't see why it wouldn't be possible for certain apps.

Interesting. I just checked and I don't have the Samsung Members app installed to compare. But like you said as well, it should be possible.
Hopefully someone here knows how?
Just use samsung app store..

You can download new versions of your apps from apkmirror

Right now i think it can be updated only from the APKMirror page .... https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=Samsung+messages

Short answer: Yes and no.
As you discovered, some Samsung apps are available in the Google Play Store. Those can be updated via the Play Store. The other Samsung apps must be updated via Samsung Galaxy Store or sideloaded (the best source is Samsung apk mirror).
Having a Samsung account doesn't force you to use their apps. I have a Samsung account, but I disabled all of their apps except for Calculator, Galaxy Wearable, Good Lock, My Files, and One Hand Operation+, and having a Samsung account doesn't affect my battery or usage habits whatsoever.

Thanks everyone.
Sublimaze, I think this is the most helpful answer. Thanks. I have a couple of follow-up questions from your response:
- I know a little about sideloading, but I'm not fully versed. But say I download the Samsung Camera and Gallery apps from Apkmirror, how do I install them if my Galaxy S20+ device doesn't let me uninstall Camera and Gallery? In the settings, I can't even disable them (it's greyed out). Maybe these two app examples are exceptions and I can't do anything about it? I will say many (if not all) of the Samsung apps I see on my device do not give me the option to disable or uninstall
- When you sideload an app, how do you receive updates or update the app in the future? Is it a one-and-done situation, or will I be able to do updates on Google Play moving forward? Or, will I be stuck and never be able to do updates, with the only way being is to just keep installing newer versions when they come out on Apkmirror?
- And finally, is Apkmirror reliable?
And thanks for clarifying the bit on the Samsung accounts.

Samsung app store is far more reliable compared to apkmirror.

That makes sense. I think what I'm just going to have to do is just tough it out and use the Samsung Store to updates the ones I can only do through there, then revoke permissions to the Samsung Store app after I'm done. Seems like the safest way to go.
Thanks.
