[Q] Small annoyance: fix available? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to stop the screen coming on when the mains charger is plugged in/unplugged at all? It's a really pointless thing, but it annoys me when it happens!

From what I guess it cannot happen through the menu. You'd probably need some kind of modification made.

You can't stop it completely. It will always switch on once plugged in to start charging. And ofcourse switch back off unless you have the "stay awake while charging" selected.

Keeps screen off when plugging in?

Is there a way to keep the screen off when i plug it in to charge?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
umm it should turn itself off after the preset time you have it on. Mine only stays on if i have certain apps configured to keep it on, ie the clock set to the dimmed setting or whatever, navigation, etc...
do you have "stay awake while charging" enabled in applications > development settings?
The screen should time out and turn off as it normally would when not plugged in.
I think he might be referring to the screen turning on whenever you plug-in the phone. A long time ago (maybe CM5?) it would turn the phone on when plugging-in or unplugging. Newer versions only do it when plugging-in. I've long thought it should be configurable. The current behavior is the exact opposite of what I would find convenient. I plug my phone in when setting it down for the night. No need to power on then for me. I *always* turn it on and check for notifications when unplugging.
Seems so insignificant to want to go messing with things if you ask me lol.

I don't know. This annoys me at least twice a day.

How to stop screen dimming

This is prob a simple fix if you know where to look. When charging how do you stop the screen dimming. This is annoying when in the car and has only started doing it after the latest upgrade to 4.1.1.
Have looked in settings but cannot see anything in the display and battery sections.

you want the screen to stay on the entire time the phone is charging?
if so:
Settings > Developer Options > Stay Awake (Screen will never sleep while charging)
you want that checked.
No, he wants the screen not to dim after x amount of time, which it does even if set to stay awake during charge.

ahh yes, I see what's going on now. There's no direct setting for this (that I know of), but it would be very easy to set up in Tasker.
The screen normally dims 10 seconds (or is it 15 seconds) before it shuts off. So if you normally have it the screen turn off at 1 minute, it'll dim at around 45-50 seconds. However, when the option is checked to never turn off the screen when charging, the time at which the screen dims is still based on that same setting, and still occurs 10-15 seconds when the screen would have turned off (had the stay on setting not been checked).
If you already have tasker, you should be able to set this up in just a few minutes. Set up a profile that becomes active when the USB is plugged in. When that profile is active, it starts a task that sets the screen time to something crazy (like 20 hours). and if the screen time-out is set to 20 hours, then the screen shouldn't dim until 19 hours, 59 minutes, 45-50 seconds. and then set up an exit task so that when the USB cord is unplugged, it sets the display time-out back to what you normally use (1 minute for me, but set it back to whatever you normally want).
Zeinzu is correct in what is happening. Why this has changed in the update is strange.
"Member", I appreciate your reply but for a novice like me it seems a bit in depth. Where can I get this "tasker" and I will have a go.
Thanks for all your help on this.

Tasker is available on the play store:

it can be little confusing at first, but read through the online guides, and I'd also be happy to help you get it set-up (at least with the profile/tasks I mentioned above to get you going with Tasker).
That is not the issue. When the charger is plugged in by default the phone makes a noise very X seconds which can be turned off but the screen dims and brightens as well when the charger is plugged in. This is really annoying!
Apparently the S9+ does not like my USB hub for charging. The hub even has charging only ports. When I plugged the phone into the normal ports I kept getting a pop up ever few seconds about that the computer should do with the phone. The red light would pop on and off while plugged into the usb port. When I connected the phone to a wall charger this dimming stopped.
I was also see the charging message pop on and off which I thought was quite odd. That disappeared when connected to the wall. It would appear that the phone was probing the usb for some kind of connection?

[Q] Turn off green light and/or notification of full charge to unplug?

When the phone reaches 100% it seems a bright green light is stuck illuminated and a notification to unplug that cannot be swiped away. Is there a way to remove either of these once fully charged?
Have you tried pulling down the notification bar and then pressing clear? If this does not help, unplug the charger then try the same.
If that doesn't help, remove and then replace battery and see if you have same issue on a subsequent charge. Failing that, perform a factory reset. If that doesnt work, there might be a fault, exchange phone...
I bet someone on xda has a less convoluted solution though

*deleted* sorry, got the question wrong...
display -> LED indicator under settings is where you can control which types of event can trigger the LED.
as for the notification itself, that would probably require a modification to the system UI application.
and there's always the option "do what the error says" which is to unplug the power cable.
I think I know what you mean, this happened to me:
-My N2 was charged 100%.
-I took the charger out of the wall.
-I took the cable out of the N2.
After that, the N2 always seems to think it's still charging. So, take the cable out of the device first! BTW this is also in the manual.

[Solved][Jelly Bean] Plug in charger right after shutdown make the phone stay on

I have a routine to plug in the phone when it's off into the chrager to speed up the chrage time and take a nap :silly:
Now, since the official jelly bean update that I jut recieved, I noticed that the phone stays on after I turn it off and plug it into AC.
It stays on all the charge time until I wake up to see that the phone wasn't turned off. It stays at the same state I 'turned if off' before the chraging.
That's weired because on ICS it didn't happend.
Seems that when you plug the chrager in after the screen turned black (after the shutdown routine of course) it stops shutting down and stay awake like nothing happend.
This thing doesn't happen if I plug the charger in after the phone is "off" for at least 1 minute. But if I plug it in earlier it stays on without a notice.
Anyone noticed this issue? It's annoying. I can't trust my phone to be powered off anymore
P.S: I don't use "Fast boot" option in battery settings menu.
Really? I'm the only one that have this issue? Cause I already unlocked my bootloader, installed custom rom after a full wipe and the issue still present. Please, can someone check if he has the same issue as mine?

Nah dude, not the only one. By "turn off", I assume you mean the screen not shutting down the whole phone.
Easy solution: go to Settings > Power and there should be an option that says something along the lines of "never dim screen when charging." You can de-select this. There is also an option that says dim screen after x mins - you might like to put this on 1 or 2 mins if it isn't already.

[Q] How to turn off the "Battery full, unplug charger to save energy" notification?

[Q] How to turn off the "Battery full, unplug charger to save energy" notification?
Like many people I leave my phone on the charger overnight. With my G3, once it charges to 100% I get a notification in the middle of the night (complete with noise and vibration to wake me up) telling me that the battery is full. I then get repeated notifications every few minutes as the phone partially discharges and recharges to 100%.
If I am actually actively using the phone while it is plugged in, it is even worse - every few seconds the notification comes.
Surely there must be an option to turn this off? Every "solution" I have searched for is not really a solution at all. People say to put the phone on silent or on quiet mode (I need to be able to receive calls and texts overnight). Other people say to switch notification sounds off (but that would turn off sounds for all notifications, not just the battery full ones). A few say we need to install Xposed and a special module (xposed killed the battery on my Z1 compact so I'd rather avoid installing it if possible).
Is there no simple way to turn off this notification?
