I'm trying to save a new contact as a google contact but it's only giving me the option to save to sim an phone. Any idea on how to fix this?

Done some searches and still don't have a conclusive reason for this.
Use Case # 1:
1. Added a new Contact to People as a Google Contact
2. Phone states that Contact has been saved
3. Went back into People to look for the Contact and it's not there
Use Case # 2:
1. Added a new Contact to People as a PHONE Contact
2. Phone states that Contact has been saved
3. Went back into People to look for the Contact and it is there
Any explanation as to why the Google Contact is not getting added to People whereas the Phone Contact is obviously local and being added right away?

Thank You.
Use HTC Sync if you want to deal with contacts saved to the phone. Personally, every contact I save as a Google contact and have no issue ever. That way if lost, broke, or stolen, contacts will always be saved a la autosync.
maybe you have a faulty device. If you're not using google contacts then it would make no sense to save contacts as google contacts now.
When in People select Menu, then View and check what contacts you are displaying.
Thanks for the responses. It's just some lag time between the Device Google Contacts and Gmail Google Contacts. I see my contacts on my Gmail Contact List now.
I had to hard reset my phone and before I did this I had all my contacts (phone and google) saved to my sd card. Well I can no longer find them. And when I synched my FB acct to my Evo, some contacts only have an email and no number. When I try to link the FB name to their acct they are unsearchable. Also when I manually go to a FB contact and try to edit to add the number, the eidt option is not available. One other thing when I go to the ppl icon and hit menu and vie, next to phone ther is ZERO entries. But Google and FB have a ridiculous amount of contacts......CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME???
Something that I thought should be simple but strangely (for Android) it's not.
If you get sent contact details in a vcard, it gets saved to the phone memory. I still can't see how to save that vcard info to my Google account.
Anyone got any ideas? A feature I've missed? An app? I use Handcent but that's a bit poo for vcards so I have to go back to the native Messages app to even view vcards.
Any ideas???
+1
I too need it, by far couldn't succeed that. It would be the best way to keep your contacts with details that sim cannot store.

This is the response I got from HTC when I asked for any method they know to get contacts from the phone to the Google account:
I would advise you to savbe the V-Card to your phones memory, so that it show in your contacts. Then in the People app, press Import/Export then Export to SD card. Choose the contact you wish to export. We have now exported a copy of that contact to the memory card. Now.. We are going to import it back into the phone as a Google contact, so, From the People main screen, press Menu, Import & Export, Import from SD card, choose as 'Google' contact. This will now have made that V-Card a Google contact. If you then Sync your phone to your Google account by going to Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync, tap 'Sync All' this will send the new contact to your Google account. Then you will be able to see this new contact in your Google Mail - Contacts section.
Click to collapse
The only problem I had with these instructions is that I found exporting contacts is all or nothing. You can't pick and choose. Luckily for me, all my contacts are on my Google account so it was only the one vcard sent by MMS that I wanted to transfer over.

Hi all,
Hope someone can help with this question.
Every time i save a vcard with contact info it automatically saves the card as a phone contact. I would like to be able to save all my contacts automatically as Google contacts. I really don’t care if I don’t have the option for sim or phone contacts as never use them and don’t think I ever will.
I would be most greateul for any help.
Thanks,
Martin
Is there an option to save contacts in the Google account by default? I saw a lot of suggestions but none of them works. Every time i add a contact it's back to 'phone' by default.
It only defaulted to phone with me the first time. Has defaulted to Google ever since.

I have the same problem. I came from Samsung Galaxy and i think it remembers where did I save contact last time.
Quick test looks to me like the default save contacts location that comes up is the last one you used.
So save to Google contacts once and next time that's the default.
Pretty old thread but anyway. I have same problems regards to contacts. Even if my first saved contact is on google, for next one it asks me again to save it on phone. Any idea how to change that?
Same here. Any solution?
Any solution please? I have the same problem. It doesn't matter where you saved the last time, it will always save to "Phone contact".
Thanks.
You might try deleting (from the phone), and then re-adding, your Google account.
Hello, i tried everything that was suggested, so far i lost dozens of contacts when upgrading to android 5.0 because i was used to saving them on my google account.
Is there any way of making the google account the default save location for the contacts on the Android 5.0 ? Is there an app that does this?
- Already tried removing and adding the google account
- Cleared data from phone and contacts app
- Show only google account contacts.
- Saving a contact on the google account and rebooting, or adding a contact on the google account and another after.
Every time i try to add a contact it defaults the save location on the phone.
When you are saving contact there is option to choose where you want to save it.
That option is missing only when you are saving contacts that someone has send them to you via Whatsapp. Then it is saved to phone memory.
Hello. I have the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks
