Which version are you using, I have just installed and after a reboot (of both PC and device) it works really well. The version I used can be found here - http://www.mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/how-to-sync-itunes-with-htc-desire-via-htc-sync/
Hi All
I found the HTC Sync 3.0.5387 here
www.rapidshare.com/files/409679123/Setup_3.0.5387.exe
Its the version from the Wildfire.
I have tested this on a XP SP3 / 32 with outlook 2010 / 32bit
Here is what I can say about it.
It will find the desire and even shows the correct picture for it.
It will sync Calendar and I was unable to find any thing that went wrong or i was missing.
It will sync some (NOT All) of my contacts (400+)
However...
I feel the reason HTC has not made it avallbale for us is due to the fact it does not work as expected.
On a re-sync of the contacts (to get the missing ones) it deleted a few (20+) and then added most (200+) a second time on my device.
It also comes up with "not enough memory on device" message on contact sync.
Had 389 contacts and got 260 on my device after deleting all of them on the desire.
I would not recommned that anybody uses it untill they come out with a new version.
If you do then here is an application that will remove your duplicate ones in outlook.
http://accuratesolution.net/AccurateOutlookDuplicateRemover.htm
I found that if you wait until your phone says it's connected and if HTC Sync still doesn't show that if you click the 'Help' button in the top right It shows the sync screen
Tried it. completely hopeless... version 3.0.5422 HTC Sync on HTC Desire. Failed on all attempts, restarted com, restarted phone, plug in plug out.. showed signs of willingness to work but never gets through any stage of the sync and comes out with "Unknown Error Occurred"
for see my desire i must launch the sync
or wait so much
now i restart win for search other good way
sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know how to schedule how often the updates happen ? the old version had settings that you could configure this but i can't seem to find them ?
Remember to select 'HTC Sync' mode and not USB charge etc?
I had the option to synv Firefox bookmarks but I don't see them on my phone.

Solved!
Uninstalled everything, reboot, install again, reboot. And now it's syncing.
For those downloading from the UK, select Europe 2 as the location to download from. I found Europe 1 crawls along.

Ok still crashing after some time.:-(
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
HTC Sync 3 5422 is working well and appears much more stable that version 2.
Negatives so far appear that:
1. It won't sync Keepass files. The program syncs other docs on the folder but ignores the Keepass file.
2. It won't allow you to select the folder location to which files are saved on the pc. By default, it stores photos in My Documents > My Photos.

I tried iTunes sync and it worked fine when I asked it to transfer my top rated tunes and they transferred to the phone no problem.
Although I`ve got problems with bookmarks from internet explorer or chrome. Nothing gets transferred?

Actually bookmarks do work, they just import htc bookmarks into chrome as a new folder. then you can add bookmarks to it and re-sync.
Contact and Agenda stay grey!
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to solve a problem for an older college of mine. He is trying to get his HTC desire to sync. No we downloaded the latest HTC 3.0.5422 and it works fine with all the features except the ones he needs for his work. Contacts and Agenda! So if you see the screen they just stay grey and you can't turn them on. Tried pretty much everything and searched a lot of forums but can't seem to find the solution.
In the HTC Sync 2.... had the option of selecting the sync manager so you could select with email program you want the data to sync. But I can't seem to find this function. Or am I looking at the wrong place... Because I read somewhere that you need to open the sync manager to solve this problem but i can't seem to find it.
So any suggestions?

I have just installed Sync 3. Same problems, contacts and agenda stay inactive.
I was reading over in some desire forum that it only takes htc sync 3.05387 to allow the itunes sync to work after froyo update. this version of htc sync is supposed to be available only to the wildfire. so my question is do you guys think this should enable itunes sync on the EVO?
You can sync itunes using just htc sync?! Why haven't I heard about this before?
Is this new to froyo?
Yes it's a froyo feature that is supposed to be leading to the OTA itunes sync that Google demoed at their conference a couple of months ago. Here is the Desire thread that I read that got me interested. http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/140251-froyo-i-tunes.html
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... but I can get the HTC Sync version working, and it's recognising the playlists on iTunes... but when I opt to sync a single playlist (or a few - bu not all) then it seems to copy across random tracks (despite it saying it is copying the right tracks while the sync is happening).
Anyone else experienced this?
I got a new card, but for some reason HTC sync only shows 1.7 gb as being free, even though the phone tells me I have 13gb free! No clue why it isnt working.
Well my earlier problems were caused by me not rebooting my computer after installing the new version of htc sync.
The only problem now is that none of the music players on my phone seem to realize that the music is there now. Kinda defeats the whole purpose!
I couldn't even get the 3.0 version of HTC Sync to recognize my Evo. It always just says "no devices connected".
I ended up just using doubletwist. At first it was abysmally slow, but now with an updated version it's great!
Just took the plunge and upgraded from v2 to v3 and while it's nice that it has a bunch of new features it's a lot less configurable. The main problem I see is that when you plug in your phone it automatically tries to sync, and I can't not find anyway to disable that.
I sync my Outlook contacts to an old PDA (which is supported at work) and my EVO. I like to be able to manually sync them in order to avoid any conflicts.
Has anyone figured out how to do that short of disabling sync on the "People" screen and manually cutting it back on each time I connect?
Try using the power manager pro and doing it that way.
Swyped from my HTC EVO 4G via xda app
Just curious – is anyone is using something other than HTC sync. After a fresh install it works fine for a while but then starts to require a reboot of both the phone and my system to work.
Thanks in advance-
I don't use HTC Sync, but what exactly are you syncing? Maybe find an alternative to it. And I can't tell for sure since I've never used it, but maybe using different ROMs will cause HTC Sync to work improperly

I am syncing my outlook contacts and calendar. I am rooted but using stock rom. HTC sync just seems like such an after thought from such a leading technology company.
I have switched from AT&T to Verizon so I could get a droid phone (HTC Incredible)so that it could sync/see and communicate with my viewsonicc g-tablet (droid). I successfully rooted phone and loaded MIUI ROM. So I gave up my Iphone (that 5yr old can work with and master) and now have a Droid HTC Incredible that needs a MIT grad in order just to make a call; a massive price to pay just to try and get free teathering hot spot (to work on Tablet)
Does anyone have anything that CAN EASILY sync Microsoft outlook, calendar, contacts, (at least). I have tried "Android manager" "HTC sync" (as expected) won't even recognize a phone is usb'd I have. But not tried clear sync, and missing sync???
NOTHING I have done has been easy or worked should I just got back to standard ROM and let HTC try to sync??? Does it really work?, I want to have one synced calender between my Work PC (outlook) and tablet, phone and a wifi hot spot phone for tablet to use?
My brain hurts and I have had it up to here with all this wasted time nonfunctional crap. PLEASE HELP

Fixed what you said in your post.
No but seriously just take your time and learn all of the features of the phone, if you rush into it you would just get annoyed more than you already are.
SYNC what works???
Thank you for your reply, I know it is more customizable so much so I can't make the simple choices that will get me the results that I must have to conduct life and business???? Quick, simple, functional, not jack with computer and phone for hours, days, and weeks ........ researching and customizing because I can?? I don't want toys! I need tools .........
Please advise, I want to have one synced calender between my Work PC (outlook) and tablet, phone and a wifi hot spot phone for tablet to use?
Hi!
Android should be able to support syncing contacts, calendar and mail over the air as long as you have the name of the exchange server. I found a step-by-step guide that I sent to you in a personal message because I'm to new to post outside links.
If you still want to sync via usb to your pc then try out some apps like DejaOffice from the Market.
Hope this helps
