[Q] My Epic 4g hung at CWM 3.1.0.1 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After using ODIN to flash chris41g's EF02Plus ROM. I tried to fix the fonts by using CWM to apply CWM Stock Fonts.zip, However the phone does not browse the sd card instead gets hung at a purple icon. After that everytime I try to boot I only get the CWM screen instead of booting to the OS. Please help..

Maybe that zip file you're flashing needs to be updated for the leaked Gingerbread ROM you're using?
To fix your situation, odin again.

Try a Factory Data reset from there and then Advance restore data from a good nand.

Sometimes it does that... sounds like your pushin he wrong button... highlightreboot and push the camera button and see if that works.... I think that used t happen if you tried t us a capacitive button instead of the camera.... if that doesn't work try the other sugestions and ten if they don't work ODIN.
Edit: if this didn't make sense then ill explain more.... use the volume buttons to highlight the reboot text in purple and choose it by pushing the camera button.... and to flash the zip you go to choose an update.zip and click the camera button and then choose what you want to flash and click the camera button.... and also make sure the zip you are using was made for that rom and isn't from a froyo rom.

Thank you for the suggestion, I was using the home button to select the option. I will try the camera click button and reply again

3. Boot to recovery, either from manual three button method (down, up vol +power) or using something like quick boot on the market.

use at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything you do to your device!
OK I'm in trouble now, I odin the first file and copy the update.zip to the sc card. After I do a manual boot to the boot loader the camera button does not activate anything I can not start the update.zip or reboot. If I pull the battery and reboot it just boot back to the boot loader again. Please advice I need my phone back soon.
Thanks
Update:
if I odin the "cont_cwm_recovery_2.tar.md5" file from the other post the camera button will activate the update.zip but got some error but reboot just fine. I think the odin file made in this post is for device that has the home button on the phone and no camera button map. Still no CWM but at least the phone boots normally now.

Thank you, I'll give it a try when I get home. What is the difference between official version of ClockworkMod Recovery for Samsung Continuum rather than a custom port made by adrynalyne? From what I can gather from the read is that the official will boot directly to CWM everytime rather than having to apply the update.zip to boot it CWM? In any case I'm much more comfortable flashing ROMs and kernel now that I can do backup in CWM.
Thanks again
Ok... I got this to install and I am able to apply the update and get into clockwork recovery. How do I get it only load CWR each time now instead of the factory recovery?
I keep having to use the default recovery to get into CWR...
I love the fact i am finally able to make a solid backup of this damn phone though!

The only way to get that to happen, is to apply a voodoo kernal.
Sent from my space time Continuum using the XDA App.
I have the voodoo kernel installed.. didn't seem to work...
**edit.. perhaps I need to allow the lag-fix to change the partition data first.. i'll try that and report back.

When you reboot to recovery, how are you doing it? ROM Manager can not properly boot into CWM on voodoo kernels
I tried to boot it using both volume keys. Now it's stuck in a bootloop saying something like "miscooperation"

oops, i hit the thanks button >.< oh well...
Anyway, did you do a battery pull after you activated voodoo? You had to let it convert your whole system! I don't know what else could be wrong.
Yeah.. I let it convert.. it booted up fine when done. I then shut it off and tried to reboot and go into the CWR menu. It then boot looped. I was able to manually get to CWR through the stock menu and am in the process of restoring right now....

Signature verification fail on update.zip
Edit:
Downloaded update.zip from addictive tips. Booted into the red colored clockwork once. Flashed DL17 Root Deodex etc. Can't boot into that recovery again. Been trying and trying.
AWFUL
So I did everything as instructed and used odin to flash recovery. now I'm trying to get CWM on my device going into boot mood. Error message says signature failed and that "update.zip gone" HELP!!!

I would copy the update.zip again on the root of your sdcard and try the manual recovery procedure.

Phone keeps booting into Recovery Mode

I accidentally flashed the kernel for my old SGS II International to my Epic 4G Touch, but I managed to get it back to stock eventually. Everything was fine for the past couple months, and today I finally decided to install the system update(which I just put off for awhile despite all the prompts). Then it gave me that white triangle and when I rebooted into recovery mode. Now it just stays in recovery mode no matter what I do. Reboot option? Reboots back into recovery? Factory reset option? Boots back into recovery.
The ok button should be the power button right? This is a bit different from my old SGS
i would try pulling the battery and attempting to boot into download
yea, try & get into download mode... power off>vol dn+power until download mode is on the screen. then use ODIN/HEIMDALL to flash a stock tar file.
I should have mentioned that I did remove the battery and leave it out for a few minutes several times. It just kept booting back into recovery. I did eventually find the jig I made which was able to force it into download mode. But heimdall just keeps giving me this "ERROR: Claiming interface failed!" message even though it can detect the phone.
So no one has any idea what to do about this?
Did you try odin? If that fails put a rom(.zip) in sd card and flash from revovery.
Edit: if you are goin to switch from heimdall to odin you have to unistall heimdalls drivers. There are instructions on how to do this in heimdalls readme file.

No, I didn't try Odin because I'm using OS X. I guess I'm going to have to make a windows boot partition. sigh
Well I guess I'll try to flash a rom from recovery first.
Well this is odd. It won't let me write anything to the sd card I normally use in it. It says it's read only. But uh....it always copied things fine if it was IN either this phone or my SGS II International when I tried to copy things.
I should just be able to put the rom on any micro SD card right? I have another 4 GB laying around here I can use if so.
Correct any sd should work!

You may have to go the route of installing Odin and flashing a full stock tar that includes ROM, kernel, and modem so it overwrites everything in that one flash. I don't think it is something you can do by flashing in a recovery

You have the stock recovery. That why. U can't flash an unsigned from from there. You are gonna have to Odin something. Either a full tar or maybe a kernel with cwm to flash something.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Well anyone want to recommend/link me a tar? I'm making a windows partition right now so I can run Odin.
And yeah I figured it was because I put it back to stock that it wasn't working. But if it's back on stock why am I still getting the white triangle with the orange exclamation?
In fact if it's back to stock the past couple months and been working fine then why did it decide to screw up when I tried to install the OS update?

[Q] Weird problem with Recovery mode

Guys, when I try booting up my friend's Galaxy W into Recovery mode, it succeeds. But then, when in Recovery mode it ONLY shows the CWM icon with orange hat endlessly. I could not choose anything such as restore or flash zip file as the menu doesn't shows up AT ALL. Then, I try flashing the stock recovery hoping it will fix it but still the same, this time it shows the Android out of the box instead.
Why does this happen? What should I do guys?

Stock recovery indeed shows "Android out of the box". Tap on the box (or press menu, I forgot which), and the picture will dim, then the stock recovery menu will appear. If you don't make the picture dim, it will reboot.
Now, as to the original problem, which CWM did you flash? AFAIK *only* Arco's CWM 6.0.1.2 is compatible with Galaxy W. Do not flash any other version, do not flash CWM from ROM Manager app.
I suggest reflashing Arco's CWM 6.0.1.2.

Red,
I would want the stock rather than CWM because doing factory reset on stock recovery is BETTER, right? Or I'm wrong?
Ima,
I have done that but still the problem with Recovery mode, no menu appears on screen. Do you know why?

Nope I think doing factory reset on CWM is better. Because in cwm they have options to completely wipe everything so there is none left if you want a clean install. CWM is just like a better and more advance of stock recovery with additional functions.

Dude... Bricked phones are literally "brick", as in you can't use it. Most likely a failure to start-up, not some glitch or bug that happens to your phone

[Q] Some issues with ClockWorkMod/Phone

EDIT: I have fixed it by continuely running ROM Manager to reinstall 5.2.0.7, I did fix permissions then installed 5.2.0.7 and it works. However still having problems rebooting and shutting down, but i will fix that later
So recently i updated CWM. Then i ran into some issues, is that when i tried to do a date wipe and a cache wipe to do a clean install it wipes the user data fine but freezes on wipe /cache. i rebooted and tried again and
Sidenote: when I try to reboot or shutdown it gets stuck at the "shutting down" pop up and never fully shuts down/reboots
I am a bit afraid to try anything more right now
EDIT: I tried to get it into download mode, to maybe try to use odin to flash the older version of CWM. Problem is that i can't get it to go into download mode, and can't find a odin flashable CWM
you dont have any backups? are you on any current ROMs?
If so,
download clockwork recovery or ROM manager from the playstore
open it up
Allow super user permissions
Scroll down to the very bottom you will see a option that says "all clockworkmod recoveries"
Make sure you are on a WIFI for a good download
Choose the CWM 5.0.2.7 version, that one is more stable.. i hate the new one its gay as hell lol
Let it download itll need a good minute, try not to do anything else. you may have to try to download a few times if it freezes just be patient
once it downloads you are good to go and you can flash any ROM
let me know if you have more questions just PM me..

I am running AKOP Oct 1st nightly. I have backups with Titanium, and an older one for Nandroid backup. I launched ROM manager and tried to install the 5.0.2.7 version but ROM Manager seems to freeze and not work. I kill the app but it doesn't launch properly and only shows the title. I have to take out the battery and reboot to be able to launch ROM Manager up again. I think i may need to find a way to boot into Download and use odin to flash a new CWM and maybe the stock rooted ROM and go from there. I have to agree about the new CWM it is kinda a step back, wish i had looked it up before update.
I am going to PM you but I always like to have this out there in case anyone else is having the same issue or has had it.

My problem is that I can't get it to boot into download mode, that Odin needs it to be in for it to function. Pressing the volume buttons just makes it go into CWM.
I got it to reinstall 5.2.0.7. It took awhile but it looks like its still working. Just tested it out and it works. Now i know to not update CWM. What are the other recovery options that might be better then CWM?

EDIT: Does it still manage installation and wipeing of data and cache the same way as CWM?

Won't boot - urgent help needed :)

I seem to have messed my SGNII again I didn't do anything strange - just wanted to reboot into recovery, but instead of pressing pwr+volup+home I thought it easier to do from an app. So I searched for an app to do that and found that Titanium backup as option to reboot into recovery. So I selected reboot->recovery, and my phone rebooted and now it is stuck on SGNII GT-N7100 screen... I pulled battery out and nothing, tried to press pwr+volup+home, nothing, pwr+voldn+home works and gets me into dowload mode.
What should I do? Pls, ASAP I need my phone!!! Thanx!
Really strange. I suggest you to boot into Safe mode to see if you can go to the OS or flash wia Odin your custom recovery if you have one or your stock version.
The global solution would be to flash a stock firmware of course.

You have Andromizer, Rom Toolbox, Rom manager...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
There are some more apps that you can go into recovery for example an app called "Quick Boot (Reboot)" if you don't want to use rom manager, or rom toolbox.
And I had strange issue with Titanium Backup too, just when I used SlimBean Weekly Rom and I wanted just to backup my Nova launcher and power toggles apps, so strangely my phone went into bootloop and I had to wipe everything to get it to work again...
