[Q] HW keyboard: long press for numbers? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way on the hardware keyboard to get the numbers (and the other Fn characters) by long pressing the keys?
Used the search, used Google, but either I'm using the wrong keywords or it doesn't exist.

I would like to know if this is possible too because I know you.can do this with the virtual keyboard

Are Evilcuber and I the only ones interested in this, or are we the only ones stupid enough not to find out how to do it?

I would like to know it too

Me too!!!!!!!

Yes!! Interest here too.

and me!!!

could be usefull... anyone up for an app that could enable this????????

Bump and hoping somebody has the answer...

You could try a Sense ROM. I know Virtuous Sense 2.0 does this, though there are some other long-pressing problems.

Yep, I use Virtual Sense 2.0.0 and there you can get to the numbers and other FN-characters by holding the respective key. But you have to have a Desire Z or G2 to use that ROM. I like it a lot, because it's based on the latest Stock-ROM providing you Android 2.3.3 with automatic smart overclocking and other Features.
And I personally haven't experienced and other long pressing problems so far...
Tronar

Hmm, I have a Desire Z, but to flash a different ROM just to get the long-press function...
I'm running CM 7, and I really like that. Maybe I should Virtual Sense.
But if it would be possible under Cyanogen, I would be happy
-edit- Oh, you meant Virtuous Sense. That's why I couldn't find it

Weekday-bump!

Weekend-bump!

I want this feature too.
It is not available in virtuous unity 1.31.0

i have no idea how to do so even though i am interested to do so..
troublesome to keep on pressing the FN button with another finger

[Request/Q] Working Gingerbread Keyboard for Uber Desire Z

Ok, Im using the Uber Desire Z Rom on my DInc. and Apparently the new gingerbread keyboard doesnt work. the keyboard pops up but as soon as I try to type it has an error w/ com.andriod.latin (i think thats what it said)
Can someone tell me what im doing wrong or make a version compatible for that rom???
THX FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!
AS far as I know the Z ROMs are the only ones that will not work with the GingerBread Keyboard. Im not sure why, hope you can find someone who can help!
This is the Droid Incredible Android Development section. There is a section for questions, I suggest you ask for the thread to be moved.
Hiya, so I am the dev behind Uber Sense. (there was a name change xD) I am aware of this error, and I WILL start working on it after I get some more bugs fixed.
The main problem is different api calls. Punk.kaos (who ported the Droid x keyboard) has told me what to do. So I know what to do, but only a vague sense of how to do it.
It's a huge project, and I understand that many would want it. However, I am currently ironing put bugs. After that, I will add more functionality =] fix stuff, then add stuff

[ROM] Nytefire-MIUI-Gingerbread-1.4.29

Nytefire MIUI Gingerbread 1.4.29
-------------------------------------------------------
Hello all, this is my first attempt at a ROM. I usually downloaded option's work and flashed it, but I didn't feel like waiting this time. :] If anyone wants to give it a shot, I've flashed it now on three separate myTouch 4Gs without any problems. Of course, if you run into any problems, brick your device, or otherwise cause some type of calamity in your mobile world - this is no fault of mine.
For a list of changes from the previous build, check the MIUI website.
This ROM contains the latest Desire Z port of MIUI as well as the Langage Pack.
I've also included Faux123's GB kernel 2.5.2-137 LV kernel. If anyone has trouble with the LV kernel, feel free to flash over the SV version immediately after ROM flash. I'm afraid I can't do much bug fixing if there is any to be done - as this is all taken care of by the MIUI team. I've simply ported over their latest build for everyone to enjoy. If there's anything I need to change for the Glacier, let me know. :]
Edit:
I suggest doing wipes as you had been doing previously with Option's MIUI builds.
Thanks,
Nytefire

Been waiting for this to drop, thanks
wheeeeee more ROM chefs
Variety is the spice of life! Also my "666" thank you mark
Hm.
Uh oh, due to not testing I've botched (and just now noticed) SU in this ROM. I'll post a fix shortly, as soon as I get home to do the edits. Sorry about this everyone, I'll have it fixed as soon as possible for you all.
Thanks for that catch, just getting it installed. I'll wait for that.
Could you also, in the next update, change the phone model to MT4G?
Home now, made the necessary changes and in the process of uploading.
Wireless tether not working anymore

Not sure if this is a miui problem or a port problem, the buttons at the bottom of the device, e.g. home menu back, do not light up. Also, long pressing the genius button does nothing.

does your home button work, and does normal pressing your search button work?
i had this problem before on one of options builds. Just wipe and reflash and you should be set. May take a few tries and retries of wiping and flashing (took me two times) but it fixed the issue
WIFI does not start for me, and third party access for phone calls is not working, even though it is enabled in the Call settings, and Google Voice is set to Always Ask how i want to make a call. Instead of asking if i want to make a call with my Google Voice number, it uses the real cell phone number.
I've tried wipeing and reflashing 4 times. Each time, the translation pack never installed. The buttons still didn't light up, and the genius button did nothing. I flashed on top of a fresh install, and the translation worked. However, the buttons still don't light up, and the genius button doesn't do anything. Also, can't change the brightness in the drop down menu or in settings. The slider/auto brightness does nothing.
To answer VibrantOwnr, the home button does work as it should, just doesn't light up.

Not for nothing, i'm not sure what kind of testing you did, but this port is incomplete. I understand that this is your frist attempt @ porting a rom, but maybe you should do a little more research before hand.. I'm not trying to be a d*ck here, but this shouldnt of been released to general public. anyone who flashes this rom is essentially flashing a rom for the vision with a modified build.prop.. I would say use this @ your own risk, but dont be surprised when things r broken...
The key lay out is vision you need to add the files from the glacier. I haven't flashed this rom yet but use options rom as a base for your Rom. Since it for the glacier. A lot of the system files are visions.

he is missing the correct files from and not limited to:
/system/usr/keychars
/system/usr/keylayout
/system/lib/hw
/system/etc/firmware
not to mention a total unorthodox way to create/flash a rom???
Hey, don't blame him, he's trying. I'm even thinking of creating a crazily modified version of Cyanogenmod 7. He may not be great, but a least he's making an effort.
But as said before... Warning: ROM may have minimal to serious problems.
This is a message to the op next time you decide to make a rom share with friends people that will appreciate your effort not xda this community is very self centered most of time its either there way or no way the devs are great just the public always has something to say
No one is blaming him for anything he made an incomplete port it not that big of a deal but since true s off. We can literally flash any rom. He didn't change any files in this Rom except for a few. All the files are a vision files almost. We don't mean for him to take it. As bad advice. If he would of had a vision radio we would have bricks going back and forth. Then every one would be blaming him.

Don't blame him? I don't even understand what that means? There is no blame only telling how it is.. The port is incomplete and i do believe that anyone that is thinking of flashing this ROM would like to know that information, i know i would... I even went a step further and specified folder locations for of the files he need to replace with the correct ones.. So I was helping him out by giving him a little advice since he didnt want to do the research first...

first off punctuation is always nice :] Quite a leap by calling the entire XDA community "self-centered" and i do not believe it was my way or no way, I really think thats an over reaction. Hey i do have to agree with you, the public does always have something to say...

[Q] CM7 Vision Quick Key Problems

I am having a problem setting all the quick keys. It seems that the leftmost quickkey can not be set and brings up a virtual keyboard window with symbols.
I tried super wiping the rom and doing a fresh install but it still doesnt work.
Does anyone else have this problem and possibly tell me how to fix it?

What build are you running? I remember there being an issue with one of the nightlies where the quick keys were off by one (left most wouldn't work, second one launched what the first one should have, etc.)

I'm running Cm 7.1 RC1 and that is the exact problem I have been having. I have been searching for a solution on the forums but haven't come up with anything.
Does anyone have an answer to this?
any updates?
coming from a lg eve is really upsetting not to have arrow keys!
Dude you should reflash. And why RC1? Why not stable??

[Q] Trackpad Configuration File Location

As the title suggests, i'd like to know where the configuration file(s?) for the trackpad is located (if there is any).
i have a rooted desire z, running virtuous unity 2.39.0. and i'm loving it.
Except for the trackpad speed. i know for sure that it was alot faster on stock, and back then i litterally loved it. now i can hardly use it because it's so slow.
i've already looked in alot of system folders all across my phone, including build.prop and /sys/blablabla and /system/blablabla directories. but none of the files of which i checked seemed to have anything to do with the trackpad.
can i incorporate it in build.prop?
or do i have to make my own configuration files?
any help is greatly appreciated !
Please please post in this thread if you find it. I have been wanting to make the trackpad sensitivity higher since I rooted as well.

Since no-one has tracked this down before, I am guessing the configuration is within the trackpad driver itself ? Just a guess.

just asking, where are the hardware drivers located?
is it in /system/lib or /sys/lib, or perhaps even somewhere else?
and what would the driver be called?
i figured it has to have a .so extension, am i right?
And merry christmas!

Anyone experiencing these keyboard issues with CM7?

I always start with a preemptive apology if this has been posted elsewhere (I searched hard, but sometimes I end up getting chastised)
First, specs of the culprit phone:
HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) Running CM7 Stable.
Anyway! I have been enjoying my G2 since the day I upgraded from my day one G1. I am familiar with rooting, but not an expert with the android system. Something has always bothered me on the G2 with CM7. After rooting and flashing my top row of buttons do not input the correct numbers when forced into a numerical entry only (e.g. I want to dial with the flip out keyboard.) With the stock rom if I push the button that is "Q" and "1" in the dialer it would input a 1, but after rooting and flashing all the numbers flip around.
Specifically:
pushing Q-W-E-R-T-Y-U-I-O-P should output 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0, instead it is 7-9-3-7-8-9-8-4-7-6. If I push alt, and then the number it works correctly.
I realize there are other ways to input the numbers (onscreen keyboard), but this is bothering me.
Any input, help, theories, etc... would be appreciated.
just tested on cm7 elitemod, same here although if you hadn't mentioned it I never would have known!
if it really bothers you I'm sure it is a cm7 issue, you could try and find another rom with a different base and see if that works or you would have to remap the buttons to the stock phone app (?) to get it to work, I'm sure there is a fix but couldn't tell you the exact steps
also you could report it to cyanogen if the team really cares about gingerbread still maybe rc3 will have a fix thanks to your bug report
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
It's mimicing a touch tone phone so that when the listed number is 800-555-HELL you can type that and you'll get the proper numbers (eg. 800-555-4355)
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
now that makes perfect sense, not a bug at all I guess but rather a neat feature! sorry but if you report this to cm they will not care as I assume it is all as intended!
if you really want to not hit alt you'll have to have to remap yourself
