Solution: German APPLE WIRELESS KEYBOARD with Xoom - Xoom Accessories

Hi to all,
annoyed of searching and not finding any solution to have a german keylayout on my German Apple Wireless Keyboard connected to the Zoom, i wrote my own German (QWERTZ) .kl and .kcm files. Now for all of those, who wants a german Keyboardlayout on the Xoom with their german Apple Keyboard, here are the files to install on your rooted device.
Please let me know, if it works for you.
Greetings from Germany

no feedback at all :-( ?

Well, what have you expected?
I guess most Apple keyboard owners own no xoom, most Xoom owners use the Moto one.
Never the less: appreciate your work and please keep it up!
Sent from my HTC Desire

Hope you still use and update this mod allready wrote to your thread on handy-faq.de today i have my xoom since two weeks and my apple wireless keyboard and apple wirless magic mouse since one week and realy love your work. I wish the would be F1 (menu should be F3) for home, and F2 for last used apps (with that and Tiamat 2.2.2 you could make screenshots when you longpress F2)

Not sure about Bluetooth but I do use a VNC client to do the same on my computer.

I doubt you can use Bluetooth keyboard. I can't use my Apple Keyboard (white) on this phone.

U can use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse on the TP2 but u'll need BLURINPUT FOR BROADCOM. I posted the beta here
HTTP://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854856
it will let u connect a keyboard or mouse but only one at a time. U can buy the final for $15 if u want both connected at the same time. The cab is posted on the first post. The forum on the BLUEINPUT site says they will not release anymore betas for BLUEINPUT FOR BROADCOM and have stopped distributing a beta of BLUEINPUT FOR BROADCOM as of NOV. 29 2010.

im 99%sure i had a cab for this on my HTC Hermes (possibly Kaiser), ive been searching the net today for the same thing with no joy, (hopeing to use my touchpro 2 as bluetooth keyboard for PS3), will post again if i find the Cab

It would be great if you can find it..
I am using an iphone 4 now, i have tried 2 different qwerty keyboards for it ( 1 of them NUU minikey ) but it does not feel like the touch pro2.
So if there is a app to share the tp2 keyboard with other device, it would be great, waiting for your reply!!

SlideIT Keyboard ½-Off

SlideIT Keyboard is currently half off in the market for New Years. I doubt it beats Swype, but add it currently doesn't work on tablets, I bit the bullet and bought it. Well worth the expense at $4.
It's working on tablets

Thanks for this thread.
I actually acquired the SlideIT for my Samsung Galaxy i9000 mobile device & have a very strange issue with it.
Since yesterday, I have been using the "h*ck*d" version I found on Applanet and it was running greatly - so, as I was very satisfied with it I decided to support the developer and buy the official version
Well - I uninstalled my Applanet version, bought, downloaded and installed the official Market version - .. but it would not run properly.
Although the default language is set as "English", whenever I swype an English term, the keyboard suddenly comes up only with "??" instead of a proper word suggestion. But it used to work with the other version I had from Applanet.
* I have checked the settings, no other Keyboard is ticked
* I have checked the language setting yes - English is set as "Primary Language"
* I thought I might have to install the English language pack, but it is not available in the Market how come? German, Dutch, etc. everything there, but no English
Anyone else has experienced similar or different troubles with SlideIT (official version)?
I'd be thankful for any help.
I got the SlideIT keyboard working fine on the Archos 101. Though fine doesn't mean "without issues." First, the keys on the right side while in landscape mode are somewhat shaved off. Second...the keyboard is FRICKEN HUGE! I mean seriously, it is ridiculously huge...like the clown shoes of on-screen keyboards.
I think I will keep pestering the people over on the Swype forums to make their keyboard work on tablets. LOL
I have used Swype for a long time on my pocket pc but haven't been as happy with it on the Archos 70. I saw this video on youtube comparing Swype and FlexT9. I have to say I prefer T9 and the speech to text works surprising good. Try it for yourself it was around five bucks. I can't post the link so do a search on youtube FlexT9.

[Q] Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse

Hi,
Has anyone used a bluetooth keyboard/mouse with the SGS2?
If so, what was your experience and which devices did you use?
It would be nice to have a list of devices that are AVAILABLE and play nice with the SGS2 so we don't all end up buying 5 keyboards trying to find a decent one.
This is obviously a precursor to the MHL cable dropping and being able to navigate the device over MHL Mirroring.
Cheers!
Check the end of my video here, BT keyboard and mouse working fine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giJXF5pIITc
The keyboard I'm using is the iGo Stowaway Ultraslim Keyboard, sadly not made any more. Nearly any BT HID Profile device should work with the SGSII.
For starters I would guess that all the ones in this -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799079&highlight=bluetooth+keyboard+mouse
- thread for the SGSI will work fine.
Ah cool cheers, i do remember you saying that your keyboard was no longer available sadly.
I was thinking something like this would be great to just kick back and use as a media controller....

I'll take a look through that thread, thanks for that.

anyone can check if it work? or advise similar mini keyboards which would work on our device..
I have the same question... did a bit of research and found the following:
Foldable freecom model, 54 quids. Reviews indicate it's decent, has a little tray to hold the phone but it's also 'cheaply built':
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freedom-BTF...1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1306668294&sr=1-6
The official Apple wireless keyboard. Great build, but not foldable. 50 quids
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-MC184B-A-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B002TUSWU4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
A clone of the above, 22 quids.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-W...1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1306669505&sr=1-3
I'm not seeing any 'great' options here... can someone suggest anything else?
I have this keyboard:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freedom-Pro...IWJ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306675360&sr=1-1
It works fine, save for the buttons that are specific to certain OS. It's not my favorite keyboard, tho.
I just purchased this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Folding-Bluetoo...66?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item53e6f9a18a
I have one from about 10 years ago that was made for a Handspring PDA and it was hands-down the best portable keyboard I've ever used, so I'm hoping this one will be just as good. I also have a Jorno keyboard on order, but there's no ETA on its release yet.
I've also used a Bluetooth mouse with the phone, and it also works fine. Mine's the Razer Orochi.
Logitech dinovo mini works well...
(only complaint is that the keyboard layout is scandinavian/swedish) and the phone gets the default english letters. Probably just have to change key mapping but have not gotten around to that yet)

Does anybody know how to use a different keyboard layout than US/GB?
I have a German version of this keyboard.
Same with me.
My keyboard finally arrived, and it's pretty good. Seems it may have a defect (it's typing some double letters on some keys, R and Space especially), but other than that, it's pretty much an exact replica of the one I used to have, and it feels great. I highly recommend it.

Oh sure it's an interesting concept, and it's a full size keyboard, the problem is
IT DOESN'T WORK!!!
Seller doesn't seem to care.
So between thsi and TJ's case I woudl recommend staying away from these
Has any body tried this "Mini Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad and Laser Pointer" with the S2? it looks great for sofa surfing with the hdmi MHL adaptor.
I am not allowed to post any links yet so please Google for

I would be grateful if some could could confirm that they have got it working and what they think of this device?
And do all the buttons work OK e.g. media volume and cursor buttons and touch pad?
Thanks

I've sent mine back for a replacement. It's a very cheaply-made product. The original is built far better... it actually says on the back "designed by Think Outside Inc., Carlsbad, CA USA."
Hello!
I tested a Nokia SU-8W bluetooth keyboard, it comes with a Nokia N8.
Works well, no pairing issues, very clean to do it .
I don't know how to do with the keyboard the same actions as "option" or "home" buttons . At least, Esc key works as back button.
I miss to have a bluetooth mouse at the same time... is a needed partner for this keyboard.

On the couple of Bluetooth keyboards I've been using, these combinations worked:
Fn+left arrow: Home
Fn+right arrow: Sleep
Fn+1: Option/menu
Fn+(hold) left arrow: Recent
Fn+(tap x2) left arrow: Voice Talk
Been playing with other combinations, but those are all the ones I've been able to find so far.

Actually, I am interested in remapping keys. I have a Palm 3245WW bluetooth keyboard and I sometimes have to write in Greek, which involves using some accents (for intonation). The on-screen keyboard will give me these accents if I long press on the keys of the stock Greek layout, but I haven't figured out how to do this with the bluetooth keyboard. Any help would be appreciated.

[Bug] 3.1 cannot handle international bluetooth layout keybord

Hello,
I bought e very nice elive bluetooth keyboard in german qwertz design.
.
After pairing it, it works only in US qwerty layout. Found that to be a bug already in 3.0. Changing config does not make difference.
Huge setback for international customers.
Not really a "setback", it's just that your KB layout isn't recognized specifically and it's defaulting to a pre-determined layout.
Was your Xoom bought in Germany?

Yes it is a setback, all of German Xoom users buy the Original Moto Keyboard and all of them do not work and have the same issue.
My Wifi Xoom has been bought in US and then been localized to German language.

That's what I'm getting at- as there's no "official" Xoom release for .DE, it's very likely possible that the keylayouts just aren't in there (and w/o the source code, wouldn't be easily modded).

He is correct: there is NO OFFICIAL 3.1 release for german Xoom models, that means no official localized system version which could fix this bug yet.
It is something different if you use a US-device in Germany or having a real german device, even with any language packs.
So please stop scaring people with that unconfirmed statements in every forum belonging to the Xoom!
Thx

Confusing, the current German Xoom 3.01 does not support the German BT keyboard.
That is what I am hearing. The next Euro 3.1 update might fix this bug.

Any update on this matter?
I'm looking to get scandinavian letters øæå to work on the keyboard... (bluetooh)
similar/same issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137780
motorola have a post on their support forum that the non-us keyboard layout for non-us keyboards fixed in intl. 3.1 update.
no idea about US 3.1 / 3.2 if it will have support... would be nice to be able to find a way to rip the non-us keyboard fix out and put it in to US3.1/3.2 though if/when the fix comes out

Apple Keyboard + Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7500

Hi guys, I hope to found a solution around here.
I've searched all over the internet and most of people agreed that the Apple Wireless Keyboard is one of the best to use with the GTab 10.1 and following this I bought one for me.
The problem is that nothing works, I got them paired and ready, but just here and there I can type on it without any hassle and when I can type, I cannot use the function keys, just literally typing. I thought the problem was the keyboard, but ran a test pairing it with my PC, laptop and even my iPhone and it worked flawlessly.
So, I've been wondering: "Isn't that because my tablet is Brazilian?" - I don't know, maybe the FW or whatever is ****ed up, just as almost everything else regarding tech that we get. It can even be that the info I got isn't that accurate and I have to get another specific Android keyboard that will work better. I'll need some help from you folks to decide which one, I have these options: Motorola, Sony and Logitech.
If you guys know any way to help, share. I'll be very grateful.
Thanks in advance!
Since you didn`t get an answer yet, I`ll give it a shot.
But I`m afraid there are no simple answers.

I`ve got 3 different bluetooth keyboards that I use with my GTab 10.1 and my Xoom. And I have to agree with most people on the internet. If I do some serious typing, I also prefer the Apple Keyboard. But all 3 of them work.

I`m not exactly sure what you are refering too, but once I marked the bluetooth keyboard as the `main`keyboard in the system settings, I did work OK for me. Instead of the `on screen` keyboard, I can use the bluetooth keyboard everywhere when there is some text to be typed.
Function keys is somewhat different. There doesn`t seem to be some standard way of dealing with that in android (but I didn`t check fr the latest version of android). What would you expect these keys to do ? For my convinience, I did remap some of them to missing keys on the keyboard. (e.g. To have a `home`key) But that`s a bit involved (see below).
But some things (like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for copy and paste) work as expected.

Could be ... I just sticked to the qwerty layout to be sure. I did see quite some post from people that adapted the keyboard maping files to work with their keyboard (e.g. German ones), the same way that I adapted some of the function keys. You need to be rooted for that. The relevant files can be found in "/system/usr/keylayout/" and "/system/usr/keychars". But modifying these files is not easy or without risk. Currently, you can only find files in these that support qwerty keyboards if you have a standard setup.
A search on the internet will give you some examples of people that already did this. Or if you would like to play with these, I could also post a bit more on how I changed these files.
Hope this helps a bit.

I'm refering to the bluetooth keyboards for the iPad. These work OK for our GTab. My collegue at work uses one whith his Mac. We did use his keyboard a couple times with my GTab while pair programming. Works fine, besides the fact that his keyboard does not have an escape key.
There are also a lot of iPad keyboard clones from China (cfr. ebay) which also work OK. There is a version of these that are more generic (e.g. also support PC). I went for one of those. These have e.g. also an "escape" key, a "ctrl" key, arrows, ... And I need those keys a lot since I use "vim" to do my programming in a terminal.
I've have done most of my programming on the pad using this keyboard during the last five months. Works very good.
Example: http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/250926373986
I tried the Apple wireless keyboard and didnt like it. When I had my iPad2, I tried the Apple keyboard and much preferred the Logitech. I use the same keyboard (while Logitech makes "Android" and "iPad" specific keyboards, they are both the same except for the iPad one having "command" and "option" keys) with my GalTab 10.1 and it works great. It recognized it immediately and works flawlessly.
(And I think it looks better than the Apple keyboard - but that may just be me.)

its about the mapping of the keyboard as said above, but also the mapping maybe specific to different apps. I mean so shortcuts work for one app but not the other.
I recommend Kensington KeyFolio™ Expert for Android
It's real fast and accurate, but the keys are a little bit small. Go google it
