[Q]USB PROBLEM: Could not detect sdcard and android adb composite - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
A few days ago, I changed my recovery from RA to clockwork, but when i tried to flash zip from sdcard, it showed :
E: can't mount sys/class/mmcblk
My last rom was :
Rcmix s, latest radio, already s-off
Then it could not boot to the phone homescreen, but it still could enter to fastboot, hboot, and recovery. Finally i tried flashing RUU BRAVO WWE RADIO 5110527 SIGNED.exe, and it found that the latest rom was fail/error.
The last step, I had succesfully flashed RUU from hboot. But there is more problem after update :
1. No sdcard detected
2. Adb not detected, but detected as QUALCOMM CDMA MSM on PC, although Usb debugging was already activated. And also No screen notification when usb plugged in the phone
3. Sometimes i could not charge the phone from homescreen, light and battery indicator didn't active, but it still could be charged when phone totally off
Please help me to fix my desire, thank you very much

[Q] How to recover RECOVERY?

Hi guys!
Today I tried to get the rooted desire with Android 2.2 with unrevoked 3.21
Previosly I updated to 2.29.405.2 SW
When I run the unrevoked it (desire) freezed on "waiting for root" step. Desire freezed in boot progress (white screen with HTC logo on it)
I removed battery and inserted it again. But I cant boot it, desire freezes on the same white screen with HTC logo.
I can HBOOT, but when I go to recovery menu my device goes to reboot and freez.
So it seems that unrevoked spoiled my recovery and I do not know hot to fix it.
Please guide me, the working solution will be donated $20
--------------
Radio version: 5.11.05.27.
SPL/hboot version: 0.93.0001.
product: bravo.
mid: pb9920000.
security: on.
build-mode: ship.
Device model is not SAPPHIRE - flash old/new disabled.
This device does not have s-off nor eng hboot.
-------------
Thanks!
Flash a stock RUU and try again, you can get 2.29.405.2 from my signature. Remember to use a gold card if you had to in the past
How can I flash the RUU without access to recovery?
You should flash it via fastboot.
Hold the back button and turn on your phone to enter FASTBOOT, then connect your phone to the pc with the usb cable and then run the ruu.

Did it as you said, result is the same
After the successful flash procedure thru RUU device went to reboot and freezed at the same white screen state.
Recovery is still unavailable to get into.
Now I will try to get the logged data thru Android SDK.
This thing is really mess me up =( I'm phoneless.
You, guys, are the one and only hope.
I have installed SDK, but I cant see anything in adb logcat but "waiting for device", thogh my device is conneted via fastboot usb.
Any clue?
I had that same issue, and it turns out it was a problem with the earlier version of clockworkmod (2.5.0.1) that had that issue, where freezing occurred at the HTC splash screen.
Try unrevoked again, with the 2.5.0.7 image here:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
Make sure you select the image when you start unrevoked.
It might fail a few times (freezing at splash), but if it does, just pull the battery and keep trying....eventually it'll manage to go through.
Good luck =)

Latty, how can I run unrevoked with a desired image if I cant boot the phone to get it recognized by unrevoked?
you have to start the flasher without the phone being connected, then you should be able to select the image (top left of window).

yes found it, but when I connect my phone via Hboot usb or fastboot usb - unrevoked does not recognize the connected device.

It still is a driver issue.
Start from scratch..
Remove all HTC Drivers
Reboot
DC from internet
Connect phone in two modes-Android, Fastboot
It should get recognized but drivers shouldnt be installed and you should be prompted for driver location. If you arent prompted, get Device Manager, uninstall the driver which recognized the device.
Now install Unrevoked drivers as per guide.
Phone should be recognized..

Ok, thanks will do it now.
But one more question, should it be recognized from hboot usb mode with "Android Bootloader interface" driver, or from fastboot mode?
Cant confirm that without my phone..
But, I believe drivers would recognize it in both..And seperate drivers too..
A small tip..If you have dual boot, try Unrevoked in another OS in which you havent installed HTC. Should work

Faced with problems
1) I uninstalled HTC Drivers.
2) plugged phone and deleted Bootloader interface device then Boot Interface device.
3) rebooted
4) disconnected from internet
5) plugged and powered device and got Bootloader Interface driver installed without a single promt!!! And Boot interface as well.
So I had no chance to manually set the path to the drivers. And unrevoked still doesnt see the device =(
It turns out that I should try another OS???
PS and the key point, should it be recognized in hboot mode or unrevoked only works with booted to OS devices only?
Not really..But that's the easy way out..
Difficult to show you what exactly to delete..
Mostly these are driver clashes..When you uninstall the driver you should tick the option to delete the driver from system.
Try again and you know you've succeeded when it doesnt find any driver installed, and asks you for the location, when you can choose the unrevoked drivers..
Hm, I cant find any options prompting to delete driver from the system... But I will look into more carefully.
ADDED
Found it, trying now.
Tried, was promted to specify the path to the drivers, installed again and with no luck =( Unrevoked doesnt see the device.
I will try it tomorrow on another PC and with another OS.
Thanks for help, I really appreciate this, and I hope we will find a solution.
PS. Is this problem called USB brick?

Desire, unrevoked failed -> unable to reboot when connected to usb

Hello,
I'm having some troubles while trying to root my friend's phone.
I tried using UnRevoked. I used the same method for my own phone and it worked without any issues, so the drivers etc should be installed properly.
During the rooting procedure Unrevoked will reboot the device, but the device got stuck on the HTC loading screen. And just stayed there, nothing happend. Unrevoked screen displayed: "Waiting for device to reboot"
I pulled the battery and rebooted with usb cable still plugged in. But device wouldnt reboot, it got stuck on HTC loading screen again...
I finally pulled the battery again, tried reboot without usb cable, this worked, when I advanced to the second HTC loading screen (the one with 'quietly brillant' subtitle), at which point I quickly plugged the usb cable back in, so maybe Unrevoked would pick up where it was. But I now got the error: "coudln't find misc"
So long story short: Rooting failed, thankfully I can still boot and everything is still there. Rebooting phone with usb plugged in doesn't work. I also sometimes get the "7 vibrates" when trying to boot (not sure what that means, googling this error didn't help me alot though...)
Phone is running android 2.2 btw, is there an (easy) solution to rooting without having to reboot the phone while connected to usb?
Sorry for the lengthy read and thanks in advance everyone!
Grtz!
Are you using ClockworkMod or AmonRA as the recovery image?
Maybe try the one you haven't tried yet?
R.
hi & thanks,
I just tried the default one, so that would be Clockwork recovery.
Which version of amon ra do you suggest?
Although I don't think that would solve the issue, since it just seems that the phone doesnt want to boot up whenever it is connected to USB...
Grtz
I haven't had any problems with RA version 2.0.1, and I think it's the image that Robocik recommended with his RCMixHD ROM.
Just noticed the link in his thread no longer works but it seems to be available on a German forum (Google 'RA recovery 2.0.1' and follow the link to the androidhilfe.de forum - sorry but I'm not permitted to post the link).
There are ways to flash it through fastboot, but it not something I've needed to do.
Good luck!
I just discovered another symptom:
The phone also keeps asking to set the time zone quite often!
Is this normal? The is usually still correct, but it still asks me to set, which I find odd.
I'm pulling the battery on this phone alot, but still I thought there was some kind of internal battery to store this kind of information? Could it be a symptom that there's something wrong with the phone?
The first symptom was never booting when connected to USB.
2nd: Sometimes getting stuck at same bootscreen, even when not connected to USB.
Also shutting down is sometimes difficult, getting stuck at HTC bootscreen again.
3rd: Often asks to set the time.
Edit: It booted succesfully while connected to USB this time... I hate it when there always seems to be an exeption to a problem right after you post it online
Edit2: The time setting problem might be because there's no simcard in the phone?
You need a fully working sd and sim card to root your phone with unrevoked.
For the problem with the time: menu>settings>date & time>uncheck "automatic (use network provided values)".
Thanks, I'll try this that later this evening!

Here you find solutions which maybe also work for you:

@swimon:
When using linux you do not need to install the modified usb drivers. You only need to this in windows.
Thanks for all the help everyone.
I tried running the unrevoked root procedure again, this time with a working SIM card inserted.
Everything works fine, phone reboots when it should reboot and everything. But it still doesn't work. I get the error "Internal Error: Couldn't find misc" while the phone keeps rebooting over and over...
I noticed though, that I got a lot of notifications by windows "usb device not recognized" "usb device not working properly" etc during the procedure, I cant remember if this happened the when I rooted my first phone... Or could this be a sign that there's something wrong with the drivers?
What now?!
@mattdroid: oh okay, didn't know that.
Okay check list:
Installed modified hboot drivers?
Uninstalled htc sync (and not the drivers)?
Usb debugging enabled (settings>applications>development)?
Set phone's connection type to "only charge" (if you have problems try "storage") and "never ask again" (settings>connect with pc)?
Which pvt version does your friend's desire have (boot into hboot bootloader, first line)?

When connect your phone to your computer (in usb debug mode and on only charge), in the device manager of windows you should be able to find a device like "android phone 1.0". If this is so, the drivers are installed correctly.
Just to be sure, do this procedure again:
1.) Install htc sync (you need this program to install drivers correctly)
2.) Install hboot drivers: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
3.)
a) Disconnect phone from pc
b) Make sure you have the following settings in your phone:
Checked "unknown sources" in settings>applications?
Usb debugging enabled (settings>applications>development)?
Set phone's connection type to "only charge" (if you have problems try "storage") and "never ask again" (settings>connect with pc)?
4.) Reboot phone
5.) Uninstall only htc sync and not the drivers (htc sync driver installer)
6.) Reboot computer (important)
7.) Now start unrevoked (reflash_package.exe) with administrator rights in windows
8.) Connect phone with computer
9.) WAIT ... WAIT .... WAIT until unrevoked says "done"
Thanks for the nice little tutorial!
will try and post results tomorrow!
I have been running unrevoked normally (without administrator rights) this whole time, maybe that has been causing the problem.
Grtz!

Well.. this happend to me.. what i have done was.. i just downloaded older version of unrevoked and it work like a charm..may be you can give it a shot
But I think older versions of unrevoked don't support android 2.2 ?
Going to try MatDroid method now
FFS!
I tried everything from scratch. Like MatDroid described.
Seems like this phone just doesn't want to reboot when it's on USB!!
How long are your supposed to wait when unrevoked displays "waiting for reboot" and the phone is on HTC boot screen?
And what could cause this phone to have so much difficulties powering on and off?
Grtz
edit: first thing unrevoked does is pushing the recovery, later it get's stuck on bootscreen, but doesn't this mean the recovery is already on my phone and I can maybe install it manually?

Sometimes unrevoked cannot do the "final reboot". After 20 minutes without changes, pull the battery and wait 10 minutes. Now put battery in and start phone. If you have the superuser app in your applications, everything is fine. After this, check wether unrevoked flash recovery.

[Q] USB-Brick, can't use fastboot commands

I'm on:
AlphaRev Oxygen r2
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-Off
HBOOT-6.93.1002
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7
After installing Oxygen r2 HBOOT and Oxygen 2.3.2 I get this message "USB Device not recognized" whenever I'm trying to connect my phone to the pc using a suitable USB cable. Tried two cables (they both work fine on a different HTC Desire): no luck.
Tried to connect using adb fastboot commands. No luck, when the phone is in fastboot mode I also get the message "USB Device not recognized". The other HTC Desire connects without any trouble.
Most of the unbrick tutorials use fastboot commands. Which unfortunately I can't use.
I was thinking about using RMD recovery. But I can't flash this recovery, because I can't connect via USB using fastboot mode. Is there a way to safely install the RMD recovery without the use of adb/fastboot.
Any thoughts how i can solve this usb brick without the use of fastboot.
4ext recovery has a usb unbrick function included in it, search 4ext on the playstore. I dont know if the unbrick works cause ive never used it but its worth a try.

Tried the 4ext option. Did a usb brick fix. Unfortunately this didn't help. How can I tell the difference between a usb brick and a broken micro-usb connector? Because I may have have one or the other.
Read in another thread that if you can enable bluetooth, then you don't have a usb brick. Is this right? Because my bluetooth is working as far as I can tell. But my problem description (see above) is still "there".

Well. I have here another HTC Desire (with Oxygen Rom en Oxygen r2 HBOOT) and it connects perfectly to this PC (tried laptop as well).
It could be a hardware problem. But as I wrote earlier, maybe it's a problem causes by flashing new HBOOT and/or rom. But... how can I tell if its one or the other.
Just to be clear my symptoms are:
- when connecting my phone (regardless if in normal mode, fastboot mode or recovery usb storage mode) Windows 7 gives me the message "USB Device not recognized").
- I can enable bluetooth
- I can't use fastboot commands (because of USB connection problem in fastboot mode as well)
- I can use my SD card in normal mode (using android)

Sounds like a hardware problem.

[Q] Rooted Desire Hd help please

Hi had all different roms on my DHD and settled on Ice cold sandwich which it has been running for a few months now, earlier on today I noticed that it had gone off and only the backlight was on, So I restarted it and it started loading the screen up but then just went into a loop.
So i pulled the battery and went into recovery and reloaded the ICS rom, but know it just vibrates 5 times and shows the splash screen and goes off with just the backlight on again.
I can get into fastboot but when i press the button for recovery it does the same I've tried every pd98img I could find and it says wrong image after I try and load them.
And when I connect it to the pc it can't be recognised by htcsync or thru any adb commands, and windows tried to load a driver called Q_USB-DLOAD or something similar then loads a qualcom usb driver but adb commands still won't recognise it, been looking all bnight for an answer getting desperate.
Thanx in advance Michael
Put it in fast boot and plug into PC. Run your stock ruu from PC. It will install the stock ROM. Then when you can get into ROM enable USB debugging and use aahk option menu to install recovery. You should be able to enter recovery and wipe everything except SD and install whatever ROM.

Hi, thanks for the reply the link for that ruu is dead, and i can't get the device recognised in windows to run anything tried every driver going,
If anyone can point me in the direction of the right pd98.img I will try to load that again the one i found had the modelid: PD9812000 where as my device says modelid: PD9810000 so thats prob be the reason that it said wrong image and wouldn't load it.
Thanks.Michael
Ruu will run with boot loader in any state so no need to re lock it. It seems a peice of hardware failure is the issue here. Try removing SD card and see if it will enter recovery. If not it may just have died.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe if you are S-ON you need a locked bootloader in order to flash a stock RUU.

First try a different usb cable.
If that doesn't work try a different PC (Install htc sync)
Your drivers may be messed up somehow.
Here's a working link for the RUU : Link
If you tried all the above and still can't connect to PC, try this:
-Relock Bootloader
-Download the above RUU.
-Run the EXE in windows (as administrator).
-Tick the "I agree box" and click next (just once). Don't continue with any steps.
-Go the temp folder on your PC (you can find it by navigating to: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp )
-search for ROM.ZIP
-Copy it to your desktop. Rename it to PD98IMG.zip and place it in the index of your sdcard (format your card first using fat32. Don't quick format)
-Place your card back into your phone and reboot into bootloader.
-Let it flash automatically.
No makes no difference with sd card removed just shows splash screen vibrates pauses then vibrates 7 times and goes blank
Check the my post above. I've just edited it.
I use to think you had to be s on too to flash an ruu but it makes no difference. I have flashed them both s on and s off. Attn1 has tried to clear this up, but is a common misconception.

Well I've tried with my laptop and pc both running win 7 x64. If i plug it in turned off they try to load QHUSB_DLOAD and qualcomm HS-USB QDLOADER9008,And fail
If i plug it in with hboot on it try's to load Android 1.0 drivers, in device manager it shows under other devices but in properties says the drivers are not installed, so if I click update drivers and direct it to any other ones it says windows could not find driver software, so any program i run from my pc can't connect to it,so I'll try your suggestion above I'm d/l the ruu now and willl et you know how i get on,
Thanks for everyones help

Clicking :good: Thanks is more than enough
I hope it doesn't turn out to be a hardware issue, and that the method above works out for you.
Let us know how it goes!
still no luck
well I followed the instructions and renamed rom.zip to PD98IMG, fast boot ran it and was successful but on reboot it just vibrates 7 times again and sticks on the splash screen, so looks like I'll have to take it into a repair shop down the town, see if they have any luck.
Thanks for everyones time and advice.Michael

Michael,
If you haven't sent your phone yet, try flashing CWM recovery using this guide..
Then reflash the PD98IMG you created in the previous instructions.
I'm not sure if this will work 100%, but there's no harm in trying!

the links in that guide for the downloads are dead, don't think it would have worked anyway as it was using the adb commands, they won't recognise my phone.
Thanks anyway

I think there is a way to flash CWM from SDCard using update.zip but I can't seem to find it anywhere
If you can do it, try that.
Also I have read here that some folks are experiencing the same 7 vibrations. But they haven't found a solution yet. Maybe you can follow that thread and hope someone will come up with something.
Sorry buddy for not being able to help. Good luck :fingers-crossed:
Well thanks again for your help, took it into a local repair shop and he said it was a hardware failure

Was it the board? I searched around for the 7 vibrations and many have said it was a faulty motherboard.
I hop you will get it back soon...
Hard luck mate :/
They didn't say what was the fault just that it was hardware related, Only charged me £15 for having a look at it,

still can't understand what you mean exactly is...but if i'm not wrong..you're still no success flashing stock ruu..maybe..if that so..
just copy n put PD98IMG.zip file to the root of you're sd card...n reboot into bootloader with press volume down+power until inside hboot..then let the bootloader check n read you're sd card..then confirm that to flash rom when bootloader already success detect PD98IMG.zip file in you're root sd card..
hopefully this can help..
