Hi XDA!
I just watched the Google I/O about the Android Accessory Development Kit (just one year after everybody else, but it was just because XDA bought it up in their news so have mercy ), and I saw it could be integrated to 2.3.4 for GB, and I was wondering, is any developer interested in developing an custom ROMfor GB with Android Accessory Development Kit as an added feature? (For locked or unlocked bootloader, for me, it doesn't matter since mine is unlocked already)
As I saw the configuration-options in the ICS-beta about the mouse-pointer and all, then I think that this is already implented in the ICS-version, and since GB is more stable for our phone for now, then that's what made me ask the question, since it should have been really nice to have an USB-hub and a mouse and one keyboard attached to the phone for better user-experience with a stand.
And when I think about it, this is more a sort of request more than a question
But if anyone wanna pull the trigger and try to add this to the Xperia Play or if it already has been done with some custom-ROM to GB for XPlay, then, please add an comment about that in this thread
Hi,
Given the slightly messy structure of the threads in the Sony Xperia S forum, I thought i would try to get all the information together in one place for the Xperia Ion. I went to the shop and purchased the Ion over the Xperia S mainly because it has mSD support. Anyway i haven't found much development information about this phone. I understand that is is a fairly new phone (was released here in HK on 01st June 2012). So, can anyone help fill in the following questions. I will update the thread as i get more information.
Forum status: Active
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1655
Rooting Status:
Is it possible to root at the moment? The Ion is shipped with GB 2.3.7.
ICS Status: possibly October 2012
Anyone have any information regarding when ICS will be released.
Development ROMs.
Anyone got any?
Edit: Development Files
Here is a link to the Ion files saved from the PC Companion repair tool.

Thanks for all your help!!!!
Bolo
It's not out yet in the US, but truthfully I think the Xperia S dev section will always be better than the Ion because it was released first and more widely.
like mrsatan said, it hasn't arrived in the us yet (it drops on june 24th). However, I'd check back in a week. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of xperia s dev stuff is already ported by then. where would we be without xda?

Since I've looked for the same thing, I thought I'll make it easier for other people who got the Japanese version of the Acro S.
According to Docomo, even though it says that the Acro HD is aligable to updadate til 2015 (2015年11月30日まで):
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/support/utilization/product_update/list/so03d/
According to this latest post they made on their site, Its not on the list of devices which will get the 4.1:
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/info/notice/page/130508_00.html
Sony and Docomo are ****ty companies
After having 3 Sony devices, its time to try another brand... :crying:
PS.
I didn't know where to post this,
If there are some other people sitting on their asses waiting for an official update (like me), they can forget about it. at least here in Japan. Just root your phones and flash something you seem to like - at least you won't get stuck with all the Sony and Docomo bloatwares ! I mean, who needs 3 different Home applications ?!?!
As I understand it, the Acro S will get a JB update, but the Acro HD won't !
EDIT: Added the reply from DOCOMO (06/08/2013) during this time Android 4.3 Has already been released.(for other devices)
woah, thats a serious letdown

I talked with several Docomo employees but they had no idea what's going on, most didn't even notice Sony Ericsson was no longer on the new devices XD
They couldn't help nor answer any of my questions including the managers of the branches I went to.
Yodobashi Camera's Docomo was also not helpul!
I mailed sony, in Japanese of course and I'm waiting for an answer... though I'm sure they will blame it on Docomo, and that they should be in charge of updates.
The costumer service here in Japan is quite good, but if you ignore the fake smiles, and text-book answers, they can't help you much, don't know much, and well... Just doin' their job of taking your money, provided no explanation, knowing very little English to none, and well, being, how do you say this... しつこい。。。
Thats my two-cents on this matter.
When I'll get an official reply from SONY, I'll post it here.

For all the devs. out there, thanks <3

You can, but its not official and I guess you will lose all the 'good' docomo apps. like the e-wallet and InfraRed etc.
why can't we get a normal official update like the rest of the world ... they really expect japanese people to go out and get a new phone every year.
its outrageous !
I think it was the last Sony Ericsson ... well, no more SONY for me...
I've yet to receive a reply from them
they will join my blacklist ... along with HP...

I'll try flashing it next week...
I'm sending another mail to Sony and I'll be waiting for its reply.
The context was this:
"Hello,
I've got a Sony Ericsson Xperia Acro HD SO-03D from Docomo.
I wondered when this device will get a Jelly-Bean 4.1 and above update.
The rest of the world, and the other-than-japan Acro S version, already gotten an official JB update several months ago.
Why is it that a Japanese based company doesn't release updates for the japanese costumers?
Please get back to me.
Respectfully,
XYZ"
EDIT: Sent the same Email to Docomo as well.
I will post the reply as soon as I get one ...
The reply from DOCOMO:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry.
This is M. Saito from the docomo Mail Center.
We are very sorry for the trouble, but regarding the Xperia acro HD SO-03D provided by DOCOMO, we have no plans to release an OS version update to Android 4.1.
Regarding the above model, it is not possible to implement an update due to hardware restrictions, etc. We would greatly appreciate your kind understanding.
I am sorry that we were not able to meet your request.
We sincerely look forward to your continued patronage towards DOCOMO.
Sincerely,
M. Saito

Another reply from DOCOMO:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us again.
This is S. Igarashi from the docomo Mail Center.
As we mentioned in our earlier reply, we do not have any plans to provide an OS version update to Android 4.1 for the Xperia acro HD SO-03D due to hardware restrictions etc. We would appreciate your understanding regarding this.
Furthermore, performing a procedure to “root” the Android OS is not something that is recognized or accepted by DOCOMO.
*”Rooting” a phone refers to the performing of operations that allow unauthorized changes to be made to the phone’s settings by enabling the user to gain administrative rights to which they would not ordinarily have access.
Please understand that DOCOMO does not provide support for “rooting” operations, and if you root the phone under your own responsibility and discretion, DOCOMO’s warranty will be invalid even if the phone malfunctions or is damaged, etc.
We are sorry for not being able to provide you with the answer you were hoping for.
DOCOMO listens to each and every opinion from our customers and will continue to strive to provide better products and services to satisfy our customers’ needs.
We look forward to your continued patronage.
Sincerely,
S. Igarashi

Sorry but no official 4.1
You'll have to root and update it yourself with a custom ROM ...
there is an official 4.0.4 though ... or at least I think there is .... hehe ...
hy friend i have s4 mini i9195...and i love change my phone with an xperia z so friend tell me a opinion s4 mini or xperia z or i buy a tabllete with my s4 mini?
You should have asked this in offtopic thread.
Anyway... xperia z is an old phone. It has a chipset that overheats. Also despite sony's promise i am not sure if xperia z gets lollipop.
It does have custom roms though. But as i said it is too old now. I recommend buying new tablet.
