hi..im new here....
nice to meet you all..
why i cant reply a post in other thread??

Hey, welcome to XDA.
Have a read through this thread, it should answer your question

Welcome & Enjoy.

welcome to xda & watch the xda noob video to answer your q's.....

also new
greetings I also am new,, trying to learn and somewhat hampered by the 10 post rule but willing to abide,,it was a rule right up front when I joined so I guess it should apply to me also and besides the frustration of not being able to post is forcing me to read a lot of stuff other than what I am specifically interested in,,so I am learning about the entire site and it's aims and philosophy instead of just one minor segment of it,,this can not help but be a good thing

It's refreshing to hear from a new user with a positive outlook and attitude. There are far too many 'Why can't I post... this is stupid...' threads at the moment. Good on you for not whingeing!
Welcome to XDA, enjoy, and if you ever need anything give me a shout

protip: learn to use the search function. it has EVERYTHING. tried and tested.
and welcome.

Hey, I'm new (to posting) here too. Watch the noob video, its HILARIOUS!

Because u are newcomer, just as I am...

thanks for the info

No, 10 post rule encourages you to read and learn before posting.
Make 10 spam posts, spam in development, get banned.
Great plan!

XDA has plenty of enjoyable reads. Plus if you get bored, go to the XDA TV Section and look for Sassibob's videos. Or you can watch it directly from youtube. That should get your juices flowing

I feel the same way, im an it tech, and consider myself to have pretty good knowledge on roms, rooting, etc. I recently have spent the pass couple of days testing the miui rom for the xperia x10, for trip. I can post and bugs or fixes that ive discovered cause i dont have enough posts. I have to go around looking for irrelevant forums just to be able to post something, which in probably can be considered spamming. I hope Xda finds a better convenient way of controlling spammers but it is unfair for actual techs/future devs.
Regards
Add me to the list I'm to the point of using 2 or 3 different Rom parts to make my own yet can not post in the Android section

I really don't know xda's policy on making special exceptions, but here's what I did and would recommend to all of you:
Do some charity work by heading over to Q&A and answering some questions people have. Lots of the people there are the newest of the noobs and could really use some help. If you feel qualified to post on dev forums, then you definitely have the skills necessary to solve many of the questions people have there.
Just my 2 cents

If you make useful posts, then you will be able to post in dev... That's the precise purpose - it's to stop new users joining, and immediately asking questions in dev, or harassing devs for XYZ
...
If I can prove that I know how to build the AOSP and know my way around Android builds, do I still have to follow the post limit. At the same token doesn't it require some knowledge of programming in general to be in the devs section. Is there a hidden forum for the real developers also? Anyway I am new here but appreciate everything deeply. The bootloader tools are really appreciated. I don't see much of fastboot or a shell with a linux mini shell like kboot. Maybe I'll post a few more random posts.
Oh come on guys, it's only 10 posts. How hard is it to post something useful or meaningful 10 times?
yea this sucks lol

But your question belongs in Q&A, hence your point is moot.
Questions are not development and belong elsewhere

Yes. I do .

[Q] Alternative to 10-post rule?

Instead of 10 postings, how about asking the new user to answer a developer-level question, before granting posting privilege to developer forums?
e.g. What is the name of the Virtual Machine used by Android? etc.
Should I suggest other similar questions?

I have considered this before, but the issue is how we add this into vBulletin in a non intrusive manner... I guess a quiz to get access to a non "new member" group would do the trick though...
I wondered about that myself. As good as that would seem, what about the people that are not really into developing, just love the work which other developers do. That would be unfair to people like them.

Well, implement both rules then. Do one or the other. I personally don't do a lot of developing, but sysadmin type stuff (how I love Linux ) and something like that question could be found using a bit of *cough* googleing *cough*. I mean its only 10 posts, its not like its gonna kill you. I got that in less then a day.
My 2 cents.

The 10 post rule is pretty hard for someone like me. I love certain mods, and am a developer of embedded software. I really only have a few forums I would like to post in, but I'm required to make other posts I could care less about just to post to topics I care about.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
there are many ways to gain 10 posts without spamming.
developers that want to develop here shouldnt have any issues answering 10 questions of noobs in the Q&A section or find a general thread that is related to you or some of your interests and ask some questions or share your experiences with that subject.
it is really easy to get 10 posts.
and you are 4 away...
Still, the 10 post limit is quite annoying and .. i'm still unable to post on the dev forums.
completely agree ...
it should actually be increased to 25 posts IMO
10 is too little
the correct place to post are in Q&A or General of each section
DEV is only for actual coders (programmers)
While I agree that the case can be made for 10 posts being a small amount, the problem is the sheer amount of people posting. I am unable to check XDA during the day, so most questions that are ones I would answer are already answered. The devs are good at that. Also, the "find something to post about " exactly the problem. I could care less about what case is better, or what skin looks good, or whatnot. Weeding through all the fluff is exhausting. Especially after a long day if development at work.

I agree, I am constantly moving threads out of Dev from users in the 20 post range. If only we could implement some kind of redirect to the rules when when someone under 10 post count attempts to post in Dev, or even a redirect to 12anons 10 post explained
The 10 post rule needs to become stringent IMHO.
Or even a quiz to determine the level of experience

I'm sure they mean for mobile platforms. That is what this forum is for, right?
Still -- ask me anything about Mumps and I'll answer it! And the first person who knows what Mumps is without searching the internet gets a cookie.
Another problem is if I've been a member for a certain amount of time, it should be a factor. I've been following these threads since my touch pro 2 days but never posted. Now when I need to post, I have to go through this initiation to even begin posting. And on to of that o have to wait five minutes between each one? Lol.

Can we please have any alternative method, I'm a developer myself who specifically registered to post a reply in one of the threads over there and it's incredibly annoying that I have to find some ways to hunt for 10 other threads and post something before being able to do so!
I do agree that it's a good thing to have some limitations, especially on opening new threads, but surely there must be a better way to grant access to just simple replies.
Does being in the top 1% for reputation on Stackoverflow count?
How about "Using Paint, point to where the Search button is."

We are working on other ways to keep the foras clean. Please bear with us while we work things out.

Please don't do this.

Please refrain from posting "Hey a new app is out!" in any section unless you are the developer looking for feedback. There are millions of android sites to cover new apps coming out. Meanwhile, those of us here are trying to share our work, and it gets annoying when users have to wade through 500 threads announcing the obvious to find it.
Thanks,
Nate

Why can't I reply to some topics on XDA mobile?

Title says it all really.
Trying to add comments to threads in the Original /Android I9300 forums, but the option to reply is not there.
Can reply to other threads though.
Is it because my post count is too low?
Also, why are there two separate forums for Android development and Original Android Development?
Looking through the respective forums, they seem practically identical. Sure, there are moss included in the Android development thread - but there are also ROMs - the latter of which has blurred the purpose of these two independent forums.

so bad
I join here to try to help and contribute in topic of a ROM and I can't I must use PM
I think the "minimum of topic/reply" make more spam for can get the full range to reply in some topics
I'm currently in the situation that I'd like to post a help at a development forum, but I'm not allowed to because of my low post count. :crying:
Frankly, I understand the idea behind the minimum post counts, but on the other hand the xda moderators presume that when I am a noob, all I want to do is ask stupid questions to developers. So now I really have to dump at least 10 stupid postings somewhere until I'm allowed to help... And I wonder why I should take this tedious task, just for helping out...
What about that: Allow new members to post anywhere after 10+ postings or after they have been members for at least one month. This way you will also keep away noobs who just have a quick question, but make it a little easier for members who are actually interested in writing at xda.

The restrictions of time decreases as your post count increases... after 30 or so... its limit time is below 30 secs or so.. its very negligible.. it is kept such that due to network problems it shouldn't get reposted twice.. it has saved me many times from app
Believe me.. its for our own good..
____________________________________________
Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.
The admin is not going to change the post count because 1 or 2 people cannot be patient enough to wait till they have the requested post count to be able to reply more than once within a minute. We all had to go through it so stop whining and get posting...
I have the same problem, now searching for topics where i can post a relevant reply
After that its waiting on a Moderator wo's in a good mood to give me the permission to post in topics where i want to post...
But i think its normal to make it 'hard' for the newbies, there are a lot of people who don't wanna use XDA for good purposes, but only for trolling people etc. etc.
Voila a post extra for me
Besides having to wait to post shows a small level of commitment to using the forums for what they are here for. Keep it up guys and maybe you wont have to wait so long

Suggestion to add to the XDA site.

I think this forum is the greatest for modding our phones. Many thanks to all the developers and the XDA staff!!!
I am still a noob even after 2 years of reading and installing some of the customizations on this forum. Some of the threads I read through need a lot of clarification. Most of them just assume everyone has knowledge of what to do and write just a minimalistic install forcing anyone without such knowledge to ask questions like, How, therefore getting snide remarks added to the posts unnecessarily.
My suggestion to you, XDA, would be to add and sticky a glossary and description of the processes that are needed and have to be performed thus eliminating the recursive and negative posts others likely post about noobs. All they have to do is point such a person to the correct link, the glossary.
I have searched through this site looking for such and all I could find was a single thread asking the same.I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=265
Falling that, a Google search will generally give you the info you need.

I've been meaning to have the thread converted to a "Ask any question thread", so if a mod (Hey CTM!) can do me a favor and give me second post of that thread, I'll be grateful
The OP is a friend, and he has agreed to let me have the second post.

That link doesn't provide anything. It's cluttered.
My suggestion is a single post so a user doesn't have to go all over the net (Google) to find something he isn't sure the editor/poster has efficient knowledge of. Such as, if I said to you I know how to tear your phone down and put it back together, would you trust me?
Just an example;
Android
is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers
Flashing
is also referred to as reprogramming.
This is a link of just the sort I was looking for and asking to be a stickied thred here http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/beginner/android-rom-and-rooting-dictionary-for-beginners/
