hi
Be gentle im very new to this please.
i have a HTC Desire A8183 GSM 850/900 with telstra Branding, I would liketo install a custom Rom without the telstra Rubbish on it .
im running 2.2 at the moment .
if there is a 'Vanilla " Android Rom where would i find it please ?
Thank you for your patience and understanding .
Haven't seen downloadable plain Android ROM anywhere (just screenshots), but MODs are plentifull. E.g. Redux if like minimalistic approach or always popular CyanogenMod.
If you just want to get rid of telstra stuff, check official HTC RUUs/ROMs from this thread. That way you'd have Android+HTC SW (e.g. Sense). Or, to save you the trouble of rooting, pick one from here.
Have fun with experimenting1

Hi All,
Please bear with me - I'm a late Desire joiner.
I've been reading the Froyo update threads but haven't found an answer.
Phone is UAE version, Arabic and English, and has ROM v 2.1xx on it.
The updater says there is no update.
How can I download the stock HTC 2.2 ROM, please?
All help much appreciated.
OK - I've been to the HTC website and 2.2 is not available for my phone - I guess that this is because they haven't got around to the Arabic yet!
So, I'd like to install a UK English version of 2.2 - where can I get it?
Check you screen
Hi,
Im a fellow newbie HTC Desire user. I just rooted my Desire now running on custom ROM. I think you need to check first if you have SLCD or AMOLED screen. Most RUUs are not compatible with SLCD Desire phone.
You can re-direct to Informative Threads, Links & Info - READ THIS FIRST ! thread and refer to [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs.
Hope this helps.
Many thanks.
I've installed roms before on my WinMo phones quite happily.
But, this time I'd like to stay with the stock rom from HTC, so I just want to upgrade to 2.2 for the improved functionality ........ I think I need to fool HTC into thinking that the phone is in the UK and it will upgrade OTA?
Hmmm ..... whwre to download the official HTC Froyo?
all RUUs in the link are authenticated by HTC = not custom ROM. Just download the RUU for your region and then upgrade to 2.2 via OTA. Just confirm first that you have AMOLED screen. As i said, most RUUs are not compatible with SLCD screens.
Right, thanks, I'm beginning to understand.
How can I tell if my phone has the amoled screen?
Thanks for your patience!

Just a heads up, it might take a while installing ROM on your Desire (30 minutes or so) so dont panic if you see the HTC logo with white background for a while.
OK, I'm getting closer to doing it - maybe at the weekend.
How do I know which type of screen it has?
Hi,
You can follow the procedure in one of the threads here. Also, normally, most phones sold after Aug 2010 are all SLCD screens.
However, I advise you to just sent an email to HTC Customer Service to be 100% sure (this is what i did).
I do believe that if you are upgrading to Froyo then screen type doesn't matter because it has both sets of drivers anyway. Also I think there is a list of official download find in the developers section of this site.;0-)

Hello guys! I am Nukers90 and I am completely new to Android (just got my HTC Desire HD with Android 2.2).
I have a little question for you and I hope that you can help me in a way or another. I bought my phone over the internet and it actually is the Asian version. It has the Asian version of Android 2.2 on it, I think (at languages, I only have English(Singapore), English(Malayesia), English(Vietnam), etc.). The MENU and everything are in English, but I would like to reinstall the OS (Android 2.2 Froyo) and get an International Version on my phone (with languages like French, English(US/UK), etc.). Can I do this? Can you guys help me? I know that I might have to "erase" all the data on the phone right now, but I don't care, because it's actually brand new (I just downloaded 2 apps to test it out...).
Also, if it would be possible, I would also want to ROOT and put the Android 2.2 on my phone. (I think that I can also root the phone since I want to reinstall the OS... but you should tell me better what to do :s).
Please help me with this... I am willing to follow any constructive directions
Thank you so much guys,
Nukers90
Hey,
So first off I dont have a Desire I have a DHD so am in no way familiar with the D in any way.
A friend is wondering wether to get the normal D or the DHD and has asked if you can flash DHD roms onto the normal D?
I see theres HD roms already but I dont yet know the difference.
Is it that simple or do the chefs have to take the DHD rom and convert it to the D?
Cheers, appreciate the help
You can flash the DHD based roms that are in the Desire section. So yes, it's that simple.
Sorry, might not have been clear.
I meant the DHD roms from the DHD section?
Weather they had to be recooked or if they could flash straight?
no you dont take roms from DHD section and flash them on desire
you go to desire android dev section, and there we have roms ported from dhd to fit desire
Cool,
Thats what I wanted to know.
Hi, I am new here and i need some help.
I want to install new rom with sense 3.0 on my htc desire hd, but I don't know how.
software information: Android version 2.3.3
Sense version 2.1
Software number 2.50.111.5
Hi
As I know there is not an Offical Update to Sense 3 for DHD
you'll need to root you device and flash a costum ROM.
for that you'll need to get to the Development Section - I've posted link of the FAQ section and there you'll need to read a-l-o-t before you'll take any action with your device:

Enjoy Reading! and if you got other question i'm suggesting read all of the posts there and you'll get your answer.
I did a ARHD upgrade using a "long" way; reading a lot of stuff, gathering a lot of tools and stuff. The upgrade task was a quite easy and quick operation after all, but before the first one you just don't know what to expect.
There is one tool which advertises to do all pre-reqs (s-off, root, clockworkmod, supercid if needed etc) in one step:

Hi
i am new to the android scene after being an apple fan for many years, and im now in the process of trying to install a custom rom.
I have used to ace hack to allow root access, and want to change to virgin media rom to an unbranded version, but the problem i have is i cannot find a unbranded custom firmware. I have found various different versions but worried about getting he wrong one. Im not sure if this info is needed but here it is anyway:
HTC Desire HD
android version
2.3.3
HTC sence version
2.1
software number
2.36.351.16
if anybody can point me to where i can find an unbranded bootrom for my phone i would be very grateful.
cheers
neil

If you need an up-to-date list of Desire HD custom roms down the line - there's one here.
You can also find some links and help in the Desire HD section too.
Happy New Year too and welcome to this great forum.
