Bricked Evo 4G Fix? Please Help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Evo is completely bricked. It will not turn on and will not accept a charge from any power source. The charge light does not come on when plugged in. I can not get to the bootloader screen anymore either. Is there any fix for this? If so please help me out here.

Sounds like your battery is shot.
How did you get to this point?

it was charging fine the other day. i actually bought the phone from someone and they had rebooted the phone and so it would get stuck on the HTC Evo 4G white screen. so i would load it to the boot screen and try to clear everything and it would never work. So then while i was tryin to flash the stock rom onto the phone my phone would not load the boot screen nor turn on at all. so i figured the battery was dead so i put it on the charger and it would not charge. not even the charge light comes on

did it die while you were flashing the ROM? If so it is probably bricked

Sounds like they sold you a broken phone.

[Q] **HELP!!** I think i bricked my Droid Incedible 2.2

Help guys, im new here and i have a Droid Incredible 2.2.
It doesn't turn on, the only thing i see is an orange light on the top right of my phone. I tried Vol - and Power but the orange light turns off and nothing happens. HEEEELLLP!!!! I think that i Bricked my Incredible. Is there any other way????
From what I know bricking is when your phone gets stuck on a start up screen, but the only bricked phone I've ever seen is my friends hero, try pulling the battery when the orange light is on

A brick is when the phone is 100% unusable. Just pull battery wait 15 seconds then hold volume down and power while putting it back in.

That's not a brick. A bricked phone is one that will do absolutely nothing at all... no splash1, etc.

[Q] Help!! Evo wont turn on

I have been rooted for a while and successfully flashed a few Roms/Kerenels using rom manager. I was flashing the newest version of Myn and one of the "warm" kernels that it offered with it. Everything was going normally the rom loaded fashed the rom and kerenel the phone was reseting then out of nowhere i got the image of the white box and android guy with an arrw as if to say "android taken out of box" I left it like that for about 5 min then took the batt out and tried to reset it. I got the same image then i tried vol. up & power it vibrated 3x and did nothing. My buddy had the same problem yesterday and he got it workin. I called him and he said all he did was pull batt/restart over and over till it booted normally. I tried that about 10x then it would not turn on again. Plugged it in, no response no led light up.
Am I bricked past the point of no return, and if not what can I do to get back in business
Stay calm, pull battery out for 5 minutes and then put it back in, then put charger in and see if LED comes on.
did that batt was out for about 20 min plugged it back in nothing
let phone charge 30 minutes
will do.. from what you know does this sound like a typical brick scenario? I feel like I didnt do anything different from all the other times I flashed roms/kerenels it just kinda flipped out on me this time?
it just happened to me, my phone wouldnt turn on or charge. Pull out battery for 1 minutre, (make sure phone isnt plugged in) out battery in, DONT PLUG IN CHARGER YET.
power phone on, once u see the white evo splashscreen, plug charger in and wait seconds and u will see LED turn on.
keep me updated
No mtter what I do or at least nothing ive tried I cannot get the Evo to respond by turning on or lighting up or doing anything
To get into bootloader, you need to press and hold vol *down* and power. Sometimes mine is finicky...be sure to firmly press those buttons, and keep them just as firmly held until you see the bootloader screen.
If that doesn't work, you might have a dead battery. Can you swap batteries with a friend?
I had this happen to me with my girls evo. Its usually related to overheating. Do you happen to have a second battery? If yu had an htc hero, they have same battery. Worked for me.

This happened to me while flashing the newest EViO. Don't worry, if your phone turns on a little youre most likely fine.

Never got it working or turned on but I took it to a Sprint tech center andt they gave me a new one... It would not power on even when they opened it up. they just replaced it.

Have you tried a different charger yet? Different outlet? If that doesn't work your charging port may have come loose.
yea ive tried but it wont let me do anything....
Same Boat
I am in the same boat. I was rooted but wanted to go back to stock. So I put the stock image on my sd card, installed it, and on the reboot its not doing anything.
Reminds me of when I attempted to flash a radio and got an "!" inside of a triangle. I pulled the battery and my poor Droid Eris was Bricked beyond (my) repair.
ok, so when you push the power button nothing happens... have you done a full battery pull? Happened to me during the nightlys once or twice i pulled batt and it rebooted

Steve, do you have a slcd? I'm betting you went back to the original stock which doesn't have a slcd driver. Search http://www.incredibleforum.com/ for an easy fix. There's an easy fix on there somewhere. I tried a 100 different things and nothing worked but finally got it. You should be able to boot into recovery if this is the case but I never could... I did get it fixed but don't remember exactly how.
bradatz is right. you could try to do a stock 2.2 ruu or a 2.2 PB31IMG.zip. the display driver for amoled is not compatible for slcd models.
see if this helps:

Bingo
Thanks guys for the heads up on the display situation. I do have SLCD, and my bet this is the issue. I will work on this tonight and report back.
See this is exactly why we have these communities. The power of many is greater than the power of one!
Steve
PS - Looks like this posting does the trick: http://dougpiston.com/?p=133
My first thought would be if the phone is off/dead, and it wont charge when you plug it in, it isn't software so much as either charger or socket issue. Since you said you tried various chargers and it didn't work... have you tried finding a different battery, with a charge, and see if it'll turn on? If that's the case, your MicroUSB port or internal circuitry is shot. Or the leads are soiled (make sure there's nothing in there... I had problems and found a lint ball from my pocket wedged itself in there. Make sure if you're digging in there you take the battery out just in case.
I guess if you need to replace it do so soon, Asurion is raising their deductible to $90 from $80.
Tapatalk Pro Sig. Yep, boring.
I made that mistake It's scary. Especially if you do it the 1st day you get your new phone
I rooted my droid and then thought I didn't do it right where some programs said it couldn't get root access, so I went to flash back stock. Dead screen
Following doupistons site helped me get back up and running.
If your phone vibrates when you turn it on after doing a battery pull, then it's probably an SLCD issue. If not, it's likely a battery issue.
You say you were running CM7 with no problems on the phone, the battery drained, the phone turned off, and now it wont charge or turn on?
You can take it to Verizon and have them check the battery for you as well.

Steve's is an easy SLCD issue. Downgrade, lost screen.
The OP's... well I have no idea but since it doesn't boot up and gets no charging led then I'd say it sounds like the phone is dead. Best of luck to him and I hope he's got insurance.
i tried a new battery an still nothing, i believe i am amoled, and its like when you hold the power button and the volume up button and it vibrates, then wont turn on til you pull the battery, except its like locked in safe mode so bad that it wont even let the phone charge. so its dead, and wont come out of safe mode, and wont charge. wtf. i just got a new phone so i dont have insurance on it anymore but wanted to sell it to make some of the money i spent back...

bad USB port....

okay so my evo has been having a problem recent where it keeps getting stuck into car mode because the usb port keeps thinking theres a car wire in it....then i ran into problems where it would FREEZE non stop and i would have to pull the battery out.
now half the time it doesnt boot and when it does...it just freezes half way using it.
now i can go get a replacment evo from sprint but heres the problem. my phone is rooted and i cant unroot it to bring to sprint because i cant boot into recovery or ANYTHING cause it keeps freezing!!

Its sounds like there may be something physically wrong with the device and if so there's not much you can do.
Have you tried running a RUU to return it to complete stock?
Do you have a custom rom installed or is it fairly stock-ish? I had a very similar problem with my second Evo. The screen would freeze and kind of flicker. After pulling the battery it would freeze on the splashscreen and I'd have to repeat the process about 15-20 times before it'd boot up. Then it would usually freeze up again within 15 minutes if I was using it. It wasn't rooted.
I'd take it in either way. If you have the stock splash screen you should be fine. You can attempt to run an RUU from your computer, but that won't put you s-on if you used unrevoked. Worst case scenario is that they make you pay the $100 deductible (assuming you have insurance). If that's the case, I'd look on Craigslist or ebay for a rooted or 2.2 Evo. It might cost a little more, but if you're having to pay I think it'd be worth it for root.

im running kings rom and the bootscreen is totally rooted and you can def tell its rooted when it DOES boot up lol
What about flashing stock by using the sd card and booting into recovery? No USB port required.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i cant even boot into recovery becase the phone just freezes while even loading into recovery
i had my usb port go bad and it didnt do anything like this, it just didnt charge but never effected the actual start up or operation.
if you are having it go into car mode but still charges it sounds like you have a software issue (app possibly)
Good luck
its not software at all because when i plug my charger into my phone and when ever i move it a little the screen flickers and then freezes.

Sudden Death?

Hi
I was out with my GF, and all of a sudden her phone just turned off, it was kind of weird cus the phone had like 70% percent of battery.
The phone does not want to turn on, I'b tried charging it cus something similar happened to my nexus 4 recently, it shoed full battery and it went dead, and had a red light blinking, turns out it was displaying the % wrong and it was empty, but her phone does not have any light at all, it charged for a few hours and nothing, tried different chargers, plugin it into the computer to see if it got recognized and nothing.
she has a bone stock phone, not even rooted, what could be wrong? the phone its like a brick, no signs of life :/ :crying:
Can you force it into Recovery or Download mode? No vibration, charge indicator, anything? Maybe you could flash the original firmware again.
Also, look at your battery, is it physically abnormal in any way? like a bubble or enlarged tumor-looking thing on it? That would signify a bad battery.
I'd say if its totally stock and especially if it's under warranty, call T-mo up and get them to replace it.

EDIT: After letting it charging last night at least today it shows signs of life.
it powers up but only shows Galaxy SIII screen and then black, it does vibrates, and when i put battery in it vibrates and attempts to power up. It goes to Download mode for like 5 seconds and then it kind of faints again to the black screen. Im suspecting the sudden death im reading everywhere?
Download all the necessary files for odin and have odin up and ready to flash stock.
Maybe if u can keep it in dload mode long enuff to flash stock, you can get things square again. Thats all I could suggest, unless this is hardware failure.
