[Q] SDcard faulty or USB Cable? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Desire HD that was branded in Orange UK. I bought a 16gb sandisk sdcard and debranded, downgraded, rooted, radio off and i run leedroid's 3.3.0 rom.
My problem is when i try to copy from pc media files. At first started with videos, but this was settings matter and solved with handbrake and some net search.
This regards music. I crop a song with Nero wave editor to use it as ringtone to DHD. I saved it as mp3 with lame mp3 option of encoding.
I put it in a folder named call tunes and copied to phone through usb cable and set the phone to disk mode. Other times plays the entire song (40 sec) others only 7 secs and others it says that it can't play this file. One time i copied the song and when i disconnected the usb cable wasn't anything copied to the phone.
Today i tried with a card reader and when i copy the folder i get the message "massive storage device. Put again the disk" I remove and reattach the card reader but the folder is empty, nothing written, only the folder copied.
I'm going crazy! Any help please?

Try formatting the card to fat32. Might help.
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!

Thaks but it's already formatted to FAT32.
I'm now trying to copy all the contents to another sdcard to see what happens.
But i get very often a weird message:
Compressed files (as divided)
Insert the last disk of the total number of volumes and click "OK" to continue.
Very confused.
I tried again to create a folder and copy some mp3 songs.
I see them while connected to pc but when i disconnect the usb cable the folder disappears. It's like a ghost. At first is there but after usb cable disconnect dissapears!

I tried the samsung 8gb that came along with my DHD and guess, it worked!
I copied songs and a video which played fine.
I will try to reformat the sandisk sdcard to see if something changes!

memory card problem

Hello,
I have now for one week a MDA Varia V (its a brand of t-mobile, but its a copy of this phone i think...)
I have 1 problem with my memory card, he disapear most of the thime when i reading somthing from it.
So let me explain:
When i put music on my memory card true the phone and i want play the music, after some seconds/minutes the music stop playing and in the music player i get first a message that its searching, and after that i get the message that there is no music (get those message in dutch), when i go look for the memory card, they dont find the memory card.
And somthimes the same problem happend when i connect the phone to my pc and select the "hard drive" function, than i putting somthing on the memory card and suddenly the card is away, and when i transfer somthing i get the message that the hard drive is lost, or somthing.
Have sombody the same problem and know sombody a solution for this.
PS: the memory card was in the box of the phone, and i called for support to t-mobile (there always helping with phone related problems) but after on the phone for almost a hour they also dont know the problem and suggest i go search the internet if there more people with this problem and how they solved this.
Sorry for my bad english
RTFM. Your storage card will not be accessible if you connect to your PC as external drive. This is normal.

Euhm when you cant get to your storage card when you connect your pc to it, how do you put data (songs and so) on tho your card?
wat i forget to say above, when i put the card out and back in, or when i restart the phone, everything is normal again (till the problem start from the binginning)
Let me rephrase...
Your storage card is not accessible on your device if it's connected as external drive to your PC. That is, you can't see the storage card if you browse to it using file explorer on your TP2. But you can see it on your PC's file explorer.
yes thats wat i mean, i go to "my computer" i click on my phone and normaly you see 2 "drives" one with the name "/" thats your local drive and one have the name " memorycard" when i go to memorycard and want put some data on it, 9 of 10 sudenly the memorycard is gone after some thime, so the transfer is failing, when i go back to the phone i only see the "/" drive and the memorycard drive is gone, and the only solution is that i take out the memorycard out and put it back in, or to restart the phone.
Sounds like the issue is with your USB cable. Use the original HTC cable and take care to not touch your device after you plug it in. If you still have problems, then you may have to bring it in for servicing. Perhaps the device's USB slot is faulty.
that wil resolve the problem when conect to the pc, but when there is music on the card and i play it on the phone the sd card is also sudenley away. and when i place the music at the device itself isnt that problem, and i use the same (origanal) cable for this.

I did have about the same problem in that my HTC would 'lose' the card after a certain - variable - time. I did always have to open the backcover, remove and replug the card and it would work again for a certain time (sometimes some tenths of minutes, sometimes a day).
Meanwhile I found a solution that works: Advanced Configuration Tool (Freeware)
http://julien.schapman.free.fr/touchxperience/advanced-configuration-tool.php
In the 'Power Management'-section of this program I enabled the 'SD Memory power management' and since then my HTC didn't 'lose' the card again
Maybe this will help you too for your problem
When i start the program i get a error message and a text saying me that the program need a newer version of microsoft .NET compact Framework.
Where can i install this new version?
have found and installed the 35 version form the microsoft website.
after that i install the program and do the settings you told, restart the phone, but have already the same problem...

It sounds as though you have corrupt files or bad sectors on the SD Card.
Backup all data on the SD, do a full format on pc using default allocation size and copy data back.
This will resolve your issues.

Bizarre USB MP3 File Transfer Problem

Hi all,
I've a very strange problem with transferring MP3 files to my Desire via USB.
Mine's an Orange branded (eurgh) 2.1 version with an 8GB SD card that had been formatted via the phone OS previously.
The problem is I can no longer copy MP3 files to the device via USB. There's plenty of space, I can transfer MP3s all day long via Bluetooth and I can even rename my MP3 files to '.txt', transfer them and then rename them back to MP3! Very weird! Only seems to effect MP3 files.
I get 'Can't read from source file or disk' in Explorer or 'Cyclic redundancy check' in DOS from whichever PC I try from (have tried from an XP and Win7 PC).
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I've not yet tried an alternative Micro SD or reformatting again.
Cheers.
Had a similar problem I think. Initially thought it must be a faulty usb cable. I just removed the cable and reconnected it to the back of my desktop and viola! She worked like a dream..

[Q] Sync taking space but no files

Hi,
I have just got a new memory card (32Gb) and have been trying to sync all my music and various documents across to it.
The phone and computer have been connected for most of the day and HTC Sync (3.x) has been indicating that the various music files and document have been moving across (around 20GB, however one completed and disconnected the files are nowhere to be seen on the phone however the disk space has been taken up.
The disk is showing that there is only 9Gb of the 32Gb free however there are only 1.7Gb of files on the card - none of the files that are supposed to have been synced across are there.
The only way I have managed to recover the space is to copy the files off, reformat the disk and then copy the files back on to it.
I'm now trying a Windows Media sync and that looks as though it is actually copying files across.
Any thoughts?

Is the SD card formatted to the correct format fat32
E=Mc2
I'm guessing so, formatted it with the phone so should be.
Have just done the sync with Media Player and this tine I saw the files going across and could see the files in the directories - now that the sync has finished all I have is some empty folders and all the disk space taken up again.
Something very wierd is happening??
Strangely, the only files that were successfully copied were the ones in a playlist.
So.......
Any suggestions as to how I can get some music and documents onto my phone?
I always just set the phone in Disk Mode via USB and copy pasted my music there. No problems at all.

OK, so far I have tried:
1. HTC sync from a Windows 7 and Windows XP PCs
2. Media Player sync from Windows XP to phone in disk mode
3. File copy from Windows XP to phone in disk mode
In all three cases the files looked as if they were going across OK and I could see the files as they were being copied but by the time the full 17Gb of music had been copied the folders were all there but were empty.
Now a test copy and paste of WiFi using ES File Explorer of an album has worked fine.
So, the question is, is there a problem with the volume of files being copied (I'll try transferring smaller numbers using one of the top three techniques) or is it the method of transfer?
Well it looks like the problem is with the card - it formats OK and reports as having 32Gb on it but it looks like any attempt to copy over 2Gb worth of data ends up with corrupted data - scandisk can recover the space leaving a stack of file00xx.chk files but not actually fix the error.
So it's back to the supplier and off to find another one.
Sounds like you don't have a genuine 32GB card, with what you've posted the card seems like a 2GB one. Plenty of fakes about.
Got mine from Mymemory ... http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC/MyMemory/MyMemory-32GB-Micro-SD-(SDHC)-Card---Class-4 ... They also do the Sandisk one. It seems that with the 32GB cards 'buy cheap, get shafted' is the general rule ....

[Q] MP3's/files vanishing from SD card

Hi all,
First of all, sorry if this isn't in the right sub-forum.
My step-mum's recently got herself a Wildfire and wanted some music putting on it. My younger brother tried copying some music over from his PC but when he opened the default music player, no music whatsoever was there (including the rubbish that comes pre-loaded on there).
I connected the phone to my PC and the music my younger brother copied over was not on the SD card at all. I assumed he messed something up so tried transfering the music over myself but when I unmount the SD card from my PC and open the default music player it says it can't find any music. And when I reconnected the SD card to my PC, the music is no longer there
I've installed doubletwist but it can't find any music on the phone and I've tried repeatedly unmounting and mounting the SD card to force it to rescan. I really have no idea what's up.
Any ideas would be much appreciated guys.
Sorry for asking but I need to first off, try loading the music unmount from PC then mount to PC see if music there.
If not, problem is SD.
If yes, problem is wildfire + SD.
If its wildfire + SD try putting card in seperate reader and format with HP format program (will try to link at later date). If this can't be done use windows to format, file system should be fat32. Then put it back in phone load music app, demount from wildfire and load music into a folder named music.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. It turned out to be the SD card. I had a spare 1 which I put in her phone and it's working fine.
Glad I could help.

[Q] 32GB MicroSD card acting crazy after being in T898

A few days ago, I decided to give my music a huge overhaul, so I plugged it in and put a ton of albums that I had on my computer to my external sd under the folder
"My Music"
I then bought an album, All The Little Lights by Passenger, I noticed that a lot of the tracks aren't playing and Google Play Music was giving me a ton of problems when I tried to play it. I removed all my music from the SD card and backed it up, then I tried putting it back into the SD card and it's giving me a file or directory error when I place the .mp3's into that folder, I then formatted it and backed up everything on it, Everything else transferred perfectly fine except for my music, then I separated the music from the other backed up files. I can place maybe 15 .mp3's into a folder before they tell me a file or directory error, I figured that I won't go into anything and try and separate my music by folders of 15 - 20, I end up making 6 folders and then I unplug it, nothing was showing up so I plugged my SD card back into my computer and looked inside the folders, absolutely nothing.
....Help? The weird part is that I can put files into the root of the external SD perfectly fine.
Sorry! I messed up the model, it's a T989
tl;dr : tried to put music onto my sd card, gives me error, formats and puts it back, still errors, i can still put the music in the root of my SD card however.
I'm running CyanogenMod 10 on my S II
I've attempted using DiskRestore Professional and it says all sectors are good, I've even used the general windows repair thing, it tells me it repaired something but then it messes up equally as bad once I unplug it.
