I found this file here that changes the default Droid boot animation to make it look like a Windows OS BIOS startup.
Here's a link:

[UPDATE]: I figured since I posted it, id try it. ClockWork errored out on it but luckily the phone still booted back up just fine.
Actually it is for HTC Desire, and that file has a SystemUI.apk in it and could potentially F UP ur ROM. just as caution.

hmm... there is a SystemUI.apk file on the Incredible 2 in /system/app
i haven't tried it out yet myself though as i just barely put that black screen on.
[EDIT] that .zip file also has a "bootanimation.zip" file placed in /system/customize/resource/ and on the Incredible 2 there is also a bootanimation.zip file in the exact same place.

I am well aware of both files. I have my splash screen and boot animation edited to my liking. but any android phone running gingerbread has a SystemUI.apk.. and that isn't compatible with our phone. not every boot animation or splash screen will work either.. we are 480 x 800 BTW..

When I turn on my phone I want it to say/show "Droid" followed by the sprint HTC Evo 4g bootup screen/sound too.
I would do this but It's probably going to be harder than putting both in the same folder as the timing has to be matched.....
I am almost certain that the system for EVO only allows 1 splash pic, 1 boot up animation & 1 mp3. I was able to use pushboot and change my bootsound to say DROID and animation to the Droid eye thanks to a thread by 12maNy.
Copy and paste this [BOOT ANIMATION] Custom Boot Animation by 12MaNy into Google and it will bring you to his thread. I am new to the forum so I am blocked from inserting links at the moment.
Good Luck!!
Yeah I figured you only can have one zip file. But I'm thinking you can glue both of the sips together making them one zip file
with both animations together in one zip ? Eh?

It's not that hard as it's made out to be. if i get a sec, I'll see what i can do. you don't need two zips, you only need to unzip the sprint boot animation and also the droidx. Delelet all the animation after the words Droid are shown and put them in the same folder as the sprint animation, then rename the pics to follow one another In other words you will have to move the sprint numbers down, so you can rename the Droid pics to start first. as for the MP3's you will have to run them through a program that allows for creating one mp3 out of two.
Thanks abu if you get around to it

ok I'll give this a try
update: hmmm something didn't go right. Put the animation.zip file in pushboot folder. Then opened the splice.zip folder and got the MP3 file out and put it inside the pushboot folder beside the animation.zip file. Then clicked pushboot2, followed the directions into recovery mode. Told me to reboot my phone and I still get the sprint 4g bootup screen. hmm
I'll test it tonight.

It probably loops after so many frames.
Boot animation plays droid then the original sprint 4g bootup with the sound.
The sound is timed to how it plays on my evo so ymmv.

Hey all. I'm having trouble adding a custom boot animation. I've been trying to use adb push to move it to /data/local/. It seems to work initially. Cmd shows it moved over the full zip file and I can see it in my phone with root explorer but when I restart my phone it just uses the default animation. I'm trying to switch to the bios boot animation that I've found on the forums. Ive only had my Incredible for about a week so its mainly stock other than rooted. Any advice? Thanks

My boot animation is actually in /system/customize/resource, maybe you could try sending it there and see if it works? Also, just checking, it is named bootanimation.zip right? I believe that matters lol, not sure. I'm sorry if I wasn't helpful, I don't exactly know much about boot animations tbh.

Yeah, it has the right name but still isn't working even in the folder you suggested. Also the zip file just has the part0, part1, and desc.txt files in it so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. I'm pretty new to the droid scene. Thanks for trying though.
Finally! After a lot of searching I found out it needs to be named VZW_bootanimation.zip and the sound file is VZW_Droid.mp3 with Froyo at least. It actually is in /system/customize/resource/ after all. I just didn't scroll that far down since I didn't know about the name change. It does replace the stock animation file though so I saved it in another folder before replacing it in case I ever want to go back. Thanks for the help
The file name and location depend on the ROM being used.
Alright starting to get a bit frustrated while trying to put a downanimation on my DHD. I know in Sergio stated in his FAQ that the downanimation and bootanimation can now be found in /data/local and I really liked the coredroid bootanimation but wanted to use my bios one to go with my windows troll splash img.
Anyway I have converted the coredroid boot into a downanimation by changing images from jpg to png and then using the method found in Monx®'s thread to make sure it was zipped properly. But just comes up with a blank screen on reboot or shutdown.
Tried a couple of others and still get a blank screen, so just wondering if any1 else has the same problem?
it comes blank because zip file aint properly zipped... did u changed compression method to store in winrar ? or just send me the stuff and i will get it done for you and save u the hassel
Edit : oh snapp.. just noticed.. the file you pushed to data/local is it named bootanimation or downanimation ? if its downanimation.. then rename it to bootanimation... downanimations are not in data/loca

Thanks for the quick reply. I have attached my coredroid downanimation.zip which I had renamed to downanimation.zip before pushing it. As i said, I made sure compression was set to store.
I first pushed this to /data/local as it says to in Scabes' Coredroid FAQ

Then tried the chmod 777 to /system/customize/resource and was getting a blank screen and now cant turn the phone off, just keeps rebooting
EDIT:
couldnt attach downanimation haha

Not a reboot cycle, just wont turn off. I can use the phone but when I try to turn off the phone with power button to either shutdown or reboot, I get blank screen where down animation should b, give it a few seconds and straight away bootanimation comes up with out my splash image.
Used recovery and I'm back to my last backup before I started playing around with with boot/down animations and circle battery mod. Then push bootanimation back now that works.
Have yet to retry the downanimation yet.
Also just wondering does downanimation images have to be .png? or can they be jpg

i wanted to do it for ya but too many pics in the zip.. gona take me long time but im really busy sorry... but lemme make you a quick guide...
1. change all the pics to .png format
2. rename the pics to the name of the folder.. in ur case folder is coredroid so name the pics to coredroid_01.png to everyone just change the numbers to the count of the pics
3. after u do that put coredroid folder and desc.txt in one folder.. now zip these two files.. tip zip and compression to store in winrar ... then do the same again tip zip. then chagne to store.. but then in the uper tabs click on files.. and then below see file paths.. change it to donot store file paths..
4. now double click the zip file to open with winrar... and delete all the pics except coredroid folder and desc.txt.. make sure .zip is renamed to downanimation.zip if it isnt already
5. get root explorer and paste it to where ever ur downanimation.zip is and Hoalah!!! Njoy
Thanks for checking in, ok I opened the bootanimation-orig.zip with 7-Zip and copied out the part0 folder, changed each png to be black and white. Then dropped the files back in 7-Zip (it was named bootanimation.zip then) and then took that zip and put it in system/media folder in the theme I flashed. Basically Bionix 4.1
My phone boots fine, but the boot animation doesn't show anything. I just had a blank screen (seemingly) ... I was thinking maybe the whites aren't white enough?
Could someone take a peak, attached with the orig file and my bootanimation.zip that resulted in my edits.
Thanks a ton!!
I've run into this before - the solution, I've found, is to set the compression level to 'store'. It didn't seem to work any other way.

Yep that was it. Thanks for that!
Anybody try installing the new CM10 boot animations yet? The link for downloading the master zip file is below, and apparently the vertical 720 is the correct file for the GNex. But as has been reported over on Rootz this results in a totally black screen after boot (and even with the permissions changed to rw-r-r after the copy/paste has been done into /system/media. :silly:

Yup. Black screen all the way.
Yep same here
/data/local? Also don't touch permissions.

There is something wrong with the boot animation in the 720 folder. Install the one from the 800 folder. I looked in both files and they are identical except the one in the 800 folder works, the one in the 720 folder doesn't. I also adb pushed the file onto my phone so I don't know if there'll be a difference using apps like root explorer, but try it out and see if it works.
Edit: also place it in /system/media
So you guys got the 800 file to work? Method?
I had the same problem, used the 720 from the other thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846845 pushed it with adb to /system/media and it works now
