[Q] NEED HELP installing apks onto rooted slide???

Hey I'm currently running the CyanogenMod-6.0.0-Slide-RC1 on my mytouch slide and was making attempts trying to install some stock apk files. From another thread (which I shall not mention just so the thread stays open) I was able to download the stock apk/odex files for the faves and friends widgets and the mt3gs swype (in my opinion the best working/looking version of swype out there that I've tried at least...).
The apk/odex files are saved onto my sdcard, in my downloads folder. I'm not sure if I'd actually need to rewrite some code or something to get the stock stuff to run on CM6. Any light anyone could shed on the subject for me would be GREATLY appreciated!
First, most of the HTC widgets will only run on a rom with sense, which CM6 is not. Second, I don't believe CM6 is an odexed rom (I haven't used it, so someone correct me if i'm wrong), so you can not use the apk/odex files from the stock build. Third, this post would be for Q&A not development.

Okay, well as you can tell, I'm obviously a noob when it comes to programming as well as this forum..so thanks for the heads up.
And thanks for the info about HTC widgets only running on sense, that really helped out a bunch.
If you want to add or remove system apps try this:
1 Get 7zip
2 open CM6 with 7zip
3 Navigate to /system/app folder with 7zip
4 Add or remove apk's you want, thats it you are done
Odex files are not required for 90% of apps in CM6
Hope this helps,i have made a barebones(minimal) rom-its posted on here, all you need to do is add your own apk's to it.Or just make your own rom,but adding google apps to a rom requires adding few more files to /lib and /xlib folders,if you new to android try my barebones rom it will save you few headaches adding google apps.

BLEH.
I had trouble running the command line .zip version of 7-zip. I've extracted the files from the zip and try to run the program but it open and closes right back up. I've tried reinstalling and what not but it still doesn't work...I'm running Vista 32 bit if that helps at all.
Thanks again!
Oh, and here's the link to the stock stuff for the MT3GS, enjoy! (I do not take credit for any of the work put into the linked thread, I'm just passing along some great stuff!!!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729529&highlight=stock+apk
EDIT: I'm dumb and figured out how to use the 7-zip program. Super stoked...I hope my mods work.
Bleh, I tried putting the stock myfaves, friends, and skype .apk and .odex files into the apps folder and made my own custom rom...installed everything fine and then I looked through my apps and widgets to see if I could use it aaaaaand. They're nowhere to be found. Great. =/
So again i'm stuck without the slightest idea what to do next. Thanks in advance for the help!

Sprint tv problem

I'm rooted and running baked snack 1.7 and I have been having a problem with Sprint tv and I was wondering if anyone could help me? Each time I open the app, it says an upgrade is available and I click download to download it but it always bring me to a page that says "Download failed.-1java.io.FileNotFoundException: /fs:/shared/csitest.tar
(No such file or directory)" All I'm allowed to do after that is exit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Same here...any help would be appreciated!! I tried to search various posts on here and I came cross a couple that have the updated version of the apk. Still no joy...
bumpity bump bump
Search seems to be broken right now; it says for a few minutes. Once it is back up, search "sprint tv update" in the Evo section. I know this has been discussed and resolved on here; more than once. I found a way to do it that worked for me, but I can't remember exactly what I did right now. I think I removed the old version completely using Titanium back-up, rebooted the phone, and then installed the new version. The thread that I posted on has a link to where you can get the updated file.
Is baked snack re-signed?
This is just a guess, but if baked snack is re-signed (different signature than stock 2.2), these Sprint updates won't work. You'd have to wait for the ROM creator to re-release the update with their signature. Maybe check the Baked Snack website. I know this issue is the reason that the most recent version of Fresh (3.2.0.0) was not re-signed by Flipz -- so that everyone wouldn't have to wait on him to resign official updates.

I was able to update Sprint TV, and I'm on Fresh. At the time, I was running 3.1.0.2, but Fresh nonetheless.
The correct upgrade file is in the last post in page two of this thread. Also, if you look a few pages down, someone else posted a flashable file; if you prefer that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766977&page=2
OP = In my previous post, I said to uninstall the previous version? Well, no need to do that. I got confused with the process for updating the voicemail software where I did have to remove the old version first. You can install this directly over the existing version. Place the file in the root of your SD card and either flash it or find it with your phone using your favorite file explorer and install it.

[Q] can anyone help?

Ok guys heres the deal. I have a droid inc. i rooted it couple months ago and ill never look back. i have got pretty good at installing roms. however when it come to "flashing" custom mods and themes im lost. i am trying to put a black themed market on my phone. i have downloaded several zip files that say they have it. i know all about astro and all that. i have tried renaming it update.zip and installing it through clockwork. and i have read forums that have talked about removing certain files for it to work. i have put certain roms on my phone just because of the themes for them that contain the "black market" but cant get them to work either. both using clockwork and metamoph. it always says missing or corrupt file. I hope that there is someone out there that is willing to spend lil time with me to get this figured out. thanx guys. btw i am currently on Remption revolution rom but have many others.

I know that one thing you need to figure out is when the ROM was built did he build it with drawable-hdpi named drawable-hdpi-v4 or just drawable-hdpi ? you can check by unzipping the framework-res.apk. I have noticed that if the rom does not have the drawable-hdpi-v4 and the Vending.apk does then it will not install. I have had to decompile the market that I like and recompile it to remove the -v4 for the SR 4.1 Rom. What market are you wanting? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042506 is a nice black market.
ok im not quite sure what ya mean. i checked the link ya sent. heres one for ya. when it says 3.Ensure that you have deleted every trace of the market from data/app.
where do i find that? i appreciate your help

Get root explorer a very good app. Then go into data/app and see if you have the vending in there. If you do then delete it. I will download your ROM and check the directory name. Also check out this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957331 there is a nice black on there.
Ok I just checked your ROM and it does have the -v4 at the end of it so the last link I just posted pick the black marketplace and flash it and it should work.
ok cool.trying it now. will be back in couple min. thanx for all your help so far. let me ask ya....when u say flash it what ya mean? rename it to update and apply update in clockwork? or just mount it to card and install from sd in clockwork?

Just copy it to your SD card and install it via CWM or Rom Manager.
i just tried installing it right through clockwork and it said it installed but no black market. gonna try the second method of deleting the vending and updater files.
it wont let me delete the right file w file explorer or astro. do they have to pro versions to do that? is there a way to get to them via the computer? cant find em

Well I bet the issue is...when you installed the ROM it did not have 2.3.6 of the market so it did a update...I had that same problem and followed all the instructions to get it replaced and it did not work. I ended up reinstalling the ROM then flashing the new marketplace imediatly to fix it.
You could replace the vending.apk from the ROM and replace is with the market you downloaded and then reflash the ROM.
ok cool im gonna try that now
does it matter that it is a zip file and not a apk file?
where do i find the vending file? cant find it in the rom
i cant believe this is so hard. lol

Use winrar and right click on the zip file select open with and then select winrar. Click on the system/app then you will see vending.apk then goto the new vending and drag and drop it into the winrar window and select yes it will overright the one that is there now. You must unzip the new marketplace until you have the vending.apk file. Do not add the .zip into the ROM.
Ok when you use root explorer, you need to click the box at the very top that says "mount r/w". Otherwise it is a read only file. The file you are looking to delete can be found by navigating through the following folders. system, then app.
To flash a black or other color market, usually you must first flash a stock market.zip through clockwork. Then reboot the phone, and open the market once to make sure it flashed correctly. Reboot into clockwork again, and flash you black market zip. Start your phone again and check to see that you have the correct market that you want.
If you have any problems with these instructions let me know and I can explain in more detail or step by step.

Ok so download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10654714/Redemptive_rEVOlution_2.3_Final.zip I changed the vending.apk to the black market from one of the links I gave you. Reflash this like you were a brand new ROM. See if that fixes it.
thanks for all the help guys. i reall appreciate it. im gonna try both ways now. will get back in couple min. its cool to have people here willing to help dumbasses like me. lol thanx again.
awesome it worked. kinda get how you did it. couple more questions if ya dont mind. 1. i really like the rom "gingerbread-inc-deck-1.2x" cant remember where i got it. so i tried to find the vending file in it and its not there? any ideas? i found the right folder but nothing. think u be willing to help? 2. how do i go about putting custom notification bars on? u know with the cool battery and signal icons. any links to any of them? i know ur prolly a busy person so any help u can give and have gave me is very appreciated.

Kindle Fire launcher files

I need the files for the default kindle fire launcher so I can help port it for other devices and if you don't have it how do I obtain it
Do your research. There is already a thread regarding the KF Laucher port in the dev section. There is no need to open yet another thread.

That's cool but me and someone else are gonna make a different port
They really havent got anywhere in that other thread

Ok this is the Apk from the stock kindle firmware
If you get the files you need, how long would it take a certified hacker such as yourself to complete such a port?
probably going to need a lot more then just the apk. could probably just download one of the stock Roms on the forums and extract the zip to get all the files you may need. It would be nice to port over a few more stock apps into other Android versions. I personally have spent more than a few hours trying to get the stock email and contacts app working on CM7 and is not as easy as I thought it would be. I also suck so I'm sure that has something to do with it.
The APKs are encrypted. You cannot just go into it, pull out code, and easily port it over unless you decompile them first.
It's just garbled junk when you extract it.
The OP has no idea how to do this, and it's already something someone else is currently trying to do and even they're having a few issues since it's pretty much just images and fancy shader plugins that make up the entire thing. Not even the bookshelves themselves are images either.

question?
How am I able to extract Roms and then push files from the extracted Rom to my device? Just curious as I do this all the time. Nothing major, did this with things like the bootanimation.zip from cm9 and a few apks from zips of Roms for my phone. Most would not install if I just put on sd partition and hit install but for example I am writing this on the stock keyboard I took from the prerooted stock 6.2.2 Roms zip. Extracted the zip to my desktop, used that qadb thing floating around to overwrite the file with the same name in CM7 on my Kindle and was able to use the keyboard after rebooting. Like I said just curious, do understand it's not always as easy as putting an apk in a directory and rebooting but I use files from extracted Roms all the time.

This is an educated guess, but I think it has to do a lot with whether or not an app is tied to the framework, or to the specific device ID.
Its not that hard i downloaded the email client from the kindle fire on my xperia play all what i did was go into root explorer and make a copy of the apks on my sd card

Movie Studio missing from ROMs

Recently a friend and I flashed Black Ice (both loving it btw!) but he noticed there was no Movie Studio (wasnt on mine either). Taking a look at the zip file for the ROM I can see the .apk file but it didnt seem to install. I was lucky enough to have a nandroid of when my phone was stock and extracted it from there but my friend didnt.
I also found that the Gummy ROM had the apk as well so I sent him the apks and he was able to install it no problem. In my searching I didnt find an easy place to find this app so I was wondering if I should post it up in the apps section here?
Not sure where to host it or if there is someone who has hosting and wants to I could send them the APK?
I run AOKP and it has it, but it seems its not in the 4/29 Gapps ZIP. Is that odd? Seems like its not a core ASOP app.
Any way you can use a free host via http://www.multiupload.nl/
Also report to the ROM dev about the app not flashing.
