Mounting the EVO as a wireless drive on a PC?

Anyone know how I would go about mounting my EVO's sdcard on a pc wirelessly? Thanks.

Bluetooth File Transfer from the Market works well for me, although obviously your PC has to have Bluetooth as well. I bought a cheap Bluetooth dongle for my laptop.

I just use dropbox. drop the file you want on your dropbox folder then go to your phone, find that then download it and your good

Drop box is a necessity that or sugar sync basically same thing. I use it for all my side loaded apps so they are always ready when I flash a new rom.

I use ftpserver on the phone and cuteftp on the computer.

Try SwiFTP, I think its what youre looking for.

why not use a2sd? (apps 2 sd)

Ive tried most of the solutions mentioned. I'm particularly looking to be able to access my EVOs sdcard either through a mounted drive or windows share wirelessly. Its important I can access it in this fashion because I work on computers all day and would like to be able to carry my drivers collection around with me. Its nice to be able to just point a machine to a drive share load the appropriate drivers. FTP, Dropbox and WebDAV solutions just to make this process efficient for me.
EStrongs File Browser is nice how it can browse PCs on the same subnet but I would like to do the same except browse my phones storage from the PC side via a share.

If you used something like dropbox you wouldn't need to use your phone at all just load up your dropbox with all of them and then just log on to the dropbox website on the computer you need the drivers.
I would think that anything that would make so you could wirelessly push files from your evo to a computer, would require a program or driver installed or a Bluetooth dongle, and that would take most of the point of away
you can always just carry around a usb cable and do it that way.

try android desktop it is a small websserver on your phone it allows you to access your phone through the pc web browser. free from ao store. Blue tooth is fairly slow on large files. with the desktop you should be able to use the wifi or 3 g.

Android App to access files on my home PC

Hi all,
I'll start with what I want to do. Basically I want to be able to access my files on my PC at home from anywhere where I have a network connection, either over 3G or Wifi.
I don't want something like dropbox where I have to sync all my documents/music/videos to dropbox online. That means I have copies on dropbox and on my PC. Plus I am restricted to the space dropbox provides (I think it is 2gb).
I have searched the internet and the market to try and find an app that will help with this but I can't find anything. I don't want to stream anything I simply want to be able to browse my files on my home PC and then copy anything I need from my PC, using my phone, to my phone.
I have heard of Orb but that sounds like it streams the data. Take this scenario... I am in the office and realise I need to show a client a video. I show it streamed from my PC. Someone else comes and wants to see the video but I'm in an area with no data signal, I can't stream! If I could have copied the file to my phone from my PC remotely the 1st time then I wouldn't have that problem.
I hope I've explained this enough. Thanks in advance for any answers, it is much appreciated.

I use Windows Home Server to get this functionality. It also gives me automated backup and lots more such as music streaming.

1. set up a ssh/sftp server on your home PC

2. use ASTRO, ESfileexplorer, or CIFS manager to mount/access the share remotely. Start by setting up inside your LAN, and makesure it works. Then move to WAN (will probably need to make sure your ISP provides you with a static WAN, and port forward the port the server is using to be able to access it "out in the wild".)
3. access your files whenever you want (as long as PC is on, and server running, and connected to the net)

I have installed Teamviewer on PC and Android version on HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy Tab, working great.
I have tried to use a bluetooth mouse on Desire during such remote connection, which was a bit funny.

I'm using cifs manager, works perfect for me!

Just found out that I can access my wifi laptops using ES File Explorer app

The app ES File Explorer allows me to access my Laptop/Desktop PC files via wifi. All I had to do was run ES File Explorer, menu-show Tabs, select LAN, select New, scan, and pick my wifi PCs, which are already setup to share files. A quick entry of username and password, and I have full access to my PC files.
I have been wanting to do this for some time, and had searched for adhoc, wifi, wifi direct, etc. But hadn't found the solution. So this post is to aid those like me who want to access their PC files but weren't aware that it was possible.
Personally, I think the OS should be providing this functionality. To be honest, it's hardly new technology to connect wifi to wifi (adhoc has been around for about a decade).
The ES File Explorer solution is sufficient, but it works by downloading the entire file, rather than permitting streaming. I would rather have a streaming-capable solution, so that I can watch films that are on my PC hard drive.
So my final part of this thread is a question. Has anyone found anything superior to ES File Explorer for accessing PC files over wifi?

This feature has been available for a long time. There are other file managers that allow this as well.

File Expert has built in Windows/Samba sharing as well as allowing you to access your phone via FTP. Pretty handy app.

You can access Dropbox and Sugarsync as well, just swipe left or right to change the different connections and copy files easily from one to another. Beats the default Dropbox app hands down IMHO.

Thanks, I have downloaded file expert as well, and will consider using es file manager to manage dropbox. This is my first Android phone so for me all features are new.

For those with unlimited data, i use TONIDO
which is AWESOME.
It uses wifi OR data. I can access ALL and I mean ALL files on my computer including windows folder etc....
Free app by the way, just need to download tonido app for computer , i set it up months ago, but it was super easy, and doesnt require to ever login again unless you decide to protect it.

You're confusing technologies. This isn't ad-hoc networking, it's just using a file browser that can read samba shares. I use ES in conjunction with MX Video Player and Dice Player for what you want to do. MX seems to stream best if you select software decoding.

Not sure if this is what you guys want, but there are several apps for streaming stuff on your phone (from a PC or Mac). Just go on the market and search for "DLNA" or "UPNP".

Check Tonido (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tonido.android&hl=en). You can access the data using Wi-Fi as well 3G.

WiFi File Transfer Solution

I have decided to try out WiFi File Transfer instead of USB for loading media onto my Nexus. The obvious advantage here is the saving USB port from wear and tear, and convenience. There are tons of apps for this as well as other methods, but rather than trying them all one by one file by file I thought I'd ask here what others have found fastest and most convenient.

Airdroid gets an honorable mention, and is a pretty popular choice. If you create an account you get some pretty sweet options that are outlined in the description. I think they have a separate paid service, but it's core functionality does its job well. Conversely, Solid Explorer is a file browser that can set up an FTP server for wireless transfer. Great tool in itself, but I believe most file browsers will have a wireless transfer capability. :good:

I also decided to use WiFi file transfer. Not only to save the USB port but because I also find it faster. I use ES File Explorer to connect to a remote share. I have tested Samba file shares off of my Raspberry Pi, file shares from a Windows server, peer to peer via my home PCs. Haven't gotten around to testing Mac yet. But I'm assuming if I can connect to a Raspberry Pi a Mac will be no problem.

There at obviously man ways , but I just use Airdroid to transfer files from/to my iMac and N7.

I bought this little app, "Wifi File Transfer Pro" today. It's pretty cool because it creates an webpage on the LAN that I can connect to on my PC and upload files via my browser. It's faster to get going than Airdroid, at least for me.

TricksterMOD and some custom ROMs have ADB Wireless built in so I can just use that to copy files.
E.g.

I use Root Explorer to access my Windows shared folders, it works very well and gets two birds stoned at once as it's primarily a fantastic file browser.

I've also been using ES File Explorer, just set up a shared folder on my pc and connected up to the computer was as simple as doing a search for a local network and selecting my ip number when it found it. Nice and easy way to copy files from the pc to the tablet...

Basically the same program but much better. Let's me do WiFi sharing tether and send files between my mobile devices on the go.

Didn't realize that Root Explorer also connects to shares. I've been using it for years but never bothered looking into new features in the newer releases. Now I can delete ES File Explorer which irritates me - only had it to connect to shares.

[Q] Best Apps for transferring files over WiFi?

An iOS App called "DeskConnect" caught my attention because it is pretty neat at what it does. It allows you to send files from your PC/Mac to your, in this case, iDevice (or vice versa) over WiFi in a breeze. You just have to download the App on the computer and iDevice register with the same account on both devices.
My question is, is their an application similar to DeskConnect for Android? I'd like to download an App on my Mac and HTC One and be able to send stuff from my computer by just dragging what I want to send into the application and then receiving the document in the application on my phone.
I know I can probably connect my phone via USB and then transfer files like but I want to know if there is an easy way to do this over WiFi.

AirDroid is pretty cool for doing that.
For me sometimes a bit buggy though. (especially when transferring mp3)
Still in my opinion the best choice!
Everything runs over your browser.
Ps: the registration is only needed if you want to transfer files through the Internet rather than using your network.

PushBullet is what I use. But the limit for uploading a file is 25MB. I know some apps are bigger than that but it's worked well for me so far, light on the PC and phone, just runs on the browser as well.

PushBullet!:good: It's simple. Download the app to your phone and the Chrome extension, log in to both and voila "push" files with one click!

I would say Air Droid is best because you can also control your camera and have notifications displayed on the PC

Android has a lot better solution than that. You can install "Software data Cable" . Chose Sync and it create an FTP server. You just need to have a FTP client on your PC/Mac/Linux.
What's more, when the phone is not in wifi network, it can create an wireless Hotspot.

Solid Explorer has a nifty FTP share feature... I used it because for what ever reason I couldn't mount my One via USB. Airdroid works well too.
