[Q] "Battery use" screen in settings only lists 2 items - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The "Battery use" screen in settings only lists the following 2 items:
Display 96%
Cell standby 3%
I have plenty of other apps running (Adao Task Manager shows 20 apps available to be killed).
Question is why does "Battery use" screen never show anything more than the Display and Cell standby?
Running SRF 1.2 / Genocide 2

Thanks. Do you mean that this functionality is broken on ALL Epics, or that it's just a defect with my specific phone?

Seriously though, I love my Epic, but just wondering if this would be grounds for Sprint to have to replace the phone with one that does work?
BTW, colleague of mine has an EVO and showed me that it doesn't consistently work on his either. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. What's up with that? I guess the issue is not exclusive to Epic....

Android system eating up all my battery?

So I'm on nightly #116 from cyanogenmod and I noticed "android system" is eating up most of my battery life. Is this normal? I don't recall it being like that in sense.
(and yes, I've been playing a lot of angry birds.)

What's listed under Android System? Also, use System Panel to see more details.

What's the problem here? For 56% of the time the phone's been awake, android.system has been consuming CPU. Hardly unusual.
Someone got the idea from somewhere that these percentages are measuring power drawn out of the battery, and it's just wrong. Otherwise, all the percentages would add up to 100%.
It's not like a glass of water, from which you've removed 56% of the contents.

But doesn't it equal 100%? My Android System is taxing my battery also. Here's what I did:
Charged to 100%
Unplugged and started playing Nova for about 30 min.
Checked info after:
Battery at 78%
34m 19s since unlplugged
Android System 53%
Display 14%
Nova 11%
Cell standby 11%
Wi-Fi 11%
Why would Android System be using more battery than the Nova, Display, wifi, and cell standby combined?!?
I'm on Myn's rls4 and here's what is listed under Android System:
HTC Checkin Service
com.android.qxdmlog
Network Location
Accounts & Sync
Settings Storage
Rosie Utility
VPN Services
BrcmBluetoothServices
Upgrade Setup (what's this?)
Setup (Why?)
HTC Widget Download Manager (Can I kill/uninstall this?)

Android System
It also seems like most posts I read claiming great battery life and listing their battery usage stats shows "cell standby" exceeding "android system".

True...that's what almost everyone bases their battery times off. Me personally it don't mean squat if your phone can sleep for 3 days. I use my evo the way it is meant to be used (all radios are always on, watch movies, stream whatever, and just use the phone) with an extended battery and I average a whole day of heavy use.
Since I have had my evo I have tested everything I can think of to get the most of the battery (both extended and stock) and the bottom line hard truth is the stock battery is **** for any kind of real use. Sure you can SLEEP for days on the stock battery but start using your phone and that pos starts going down faster than a hooker at a truck stop.
As for the ops question, if you actually use your phone android system will always be at the top of that list. Let your phone sleep for a while and watch cell standby jump to the top. All that list is is a generalization of what uses your battery. I'd be more concerned if you let your phone sleep for an hour or so and android system is still on top.
Since some of the processes under "Android System" are HTC and likely needed for sense, would an AOSP rom like cyanogen show lower "Android System" with all else equal (or at least similar)? I realize OP was on a cyanogen rom, but would it have been worse with a sense rom?
Could also be 4G radio is toggled on still even though you toggled it off or comes on automatically ever time you reboot your phone..depends on setup.
I started a discussion here and Google also has this bug at medium priority.
This can be verified by aLogcat or other free log software were Wimax error shows up over and over every 2 secs or so when 4G is supposedly off. Seems to affect rooted and non-rooted EVO phones with 4G. Turn phone off when you get on an airplane..airplane mode doesnt kill it either. 4G EVORadiogate......

I don't have strong 4G in my area yet, so I never have 4G on, let alone have the widget on any of my homescreens. I sure hope this gets fixed though before 4G officially launches in San Francisco. I'm just at the outskirts and don't really get a consistent signal yet.

Current widget shows monstrous battery usage

Current widget constantly shows valued above 150ma on my dhd running android revolution 2.0.11. What could be the cause?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Is that high? I'm using cyanogenmod 7 nightlies and mine goes to 300 regularly.

Sounds about right for normal use with screen on.
What's your standby drain? IE, what does it show when you 1st unlock the phone?
Mine is usually around 2 - 5mA on same ROM as you.

I actually meant whats OP's standby drain, but if yours is 171mA that's pretty high for standby (unless you're charging ).
To be sure, check Currentwidget log and see what it is over a period of time when the screen was off.
You can check what's been running by doing this...
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Battery History
Change Other Usage to Partial Wake Use
Anything that's been keeping the phone awake will be listed.
As I said, my usual is around 2-5mA with screen off, that's with wifi or 3G always on, Facebook sync 4hrs, weather sync 3hrs, Flickr sync once a day and Gmail push.

with cm7 and radio 26.04.00:
-150,250ma with screen on
-18ma with screen off
with cm7 and radio 26.06.03.24:
-127 with screen on
-13ma with screen on
I use setcpu interactive, as I found as a good compromise
I saw a wierd behaviour, no matter the radio or other settings...
I use h3g, that's proven to be more drainin than gsm...but waste of battery is less with 3hg than italian Tim (gsm)... automatic brihtness seems more battery drainin than 90% brihtness....
another crap is the very poor radio-hardware.....my desireHD goes from umts to roaming whereas my little huawei ideos is always on umts (like old blackstone)....and battery goes down...
Did you get the current widget work now? I have the same problem, never be able to make the apps to write the log file, my two hd2 phone installed with desire_DL 3.5 SD version, both have the same problem. i kicked the log but never get the log file wrote.
Any one know what is the problem?

[Q] Battery issues with CM7 alpha anyone?

I've had CM7 on my t989 since the day after alpha 2 came out, and I've never had any serious issues I haven't been able to solve.
I've been trying to track down what's causeing my phone to stay awake, and I can't figure it out at all. In the android battery usage, it shows that my phone is almost always awake when it's sitting in my pocket with nothing running, even after a fresh reboot. No relevant application shows up in either the 'partial wake usage' list or the main android battery usage list.
Is there a way to get more accurate information about partial wake usage or per application usage then I'm aware of? I'm currently using Battery Monitor Widget to figure this stuff out.
I could be an application I have installed that is causing it, but how would it be ducking the android battery usage monitor AND the partial wake usage list?
Anyone else experience something like this?
If you go to Settings, About phone, Battery Usage, what are the top apps?

There are apps there, but they aren't the ones that are draining my battery, considering none of them are the ones keeping my phone awake while the screen is off and it's idle.
There is battery usage going on that isn't listed on the battery usage page, which is why I made the thread.

I've used better battery stats, it exposed the same information that battery monitor widget does, just in a much less user friendly way.
What ever is keeping the wake lock, my phone isn't tracking it, making me think it's something in the OS, not an app I have installed.
I'm willing to bet its something with calls/proximity sensors. Is Android system 2nd on battery usage behind display?

Yeah, the battery life is really bad sometimes, but other times it's fine.
So no one knows the cause? It just happens? I'm confident CM9 will fix it, mostly because they have the ground up reword the ROM to make it work.

The times its good is when you don't make many calls? Or your calls or later in the day? What happens is after you make a call there is a partial wake lock triggered by the proximity sensor. Pay attention to that.

To be honest I have done so many tweaks to help with wakelocks. It is definately not an app but the standby time is sooo much worse on my Note in comparision to my HTC One S. I'll get about a day regardless of screen time. On my One S I'll get 2 days with the same screen time and with the same apps.
The only thing I can think of it being is that mdm_hsic kernel wakelock. Have no clue what to do about that though, and it's clearly a Samsung/Note 2 bug given that the HTC doesn't have this sucking away the standby time.

i am on stock 4.1.2 not rooted ,and my avarage battery drain overnight (10/11 hrs +) is 2%..or ..3 %.
i also have a note8.0 and battery drain is normally 1% in standby mode overnight (10/11 hrs )also on 4.1.2
lucky ? no i don't think so .
(maybe i got my all "tweaks " right..no ?)
just a few pointers (things to think about, why others get better results and others not,in this case on 4.1.2 )
good luck

Do you have any Battery manager apps installed? I had one that constantly pulled WiFi status and since I have WiFi disabled when outside of home or work it kept on turning it on/off and drained my battery. It was my error for configuring it wrongly, I admit but still, that may happen without control.
Check Wakelock Detector, click on this:
Awake.............................Statistics since..............................Deep sleep
bar after night of rest and post statistics that you find there, The most interesting is a difference between Screen-on and awake times. If your phone is awake much longer than it has it's screen on then there are some processes that keep it awake and drain battery.

Wifi does seem to be messed up on this phone. I find, on standby, it causes more drain than 3G does. Usually something like 10% - 15% overnight.
This is not right and something is seriously a miss with Samsung. My HTC running the exact same apps does not have this problem. You shouldn't have to turn wifi off as opposed to 3G to get better battery life.

Are you thinking about some hardware problem that causes wifi to use more memory than usual? Like higher voltage or something? Because that is not very probable. I think there is some app there that is using wifi, high power usage happens when wifi is performing scans is being turned on or actively transmiting data. Please use wakelog detector to find what app is causing kernel wakelocks and from there we can find a real culprit.
I does not have to be malicious but may be an incompatibility between hardware and some software, one that works well on HTC and not on this Samsung model.

No I don't think it's hardware.
I also don't think it is an app given what I have observed with wakelocks and deep sleep. I have made many adjustments to the phone and I'm clued up with wakelocks and the like and this doesn't seem to be a wakelock issue.
I have even assigned a static ip and made tweaks within my router but it hasn't helped. There seems to be a strange way this phone handles wifi and it is causing unnecessary drain.
In regards to Kernel wakelocks, it would appear something called mdm_hsic is causing lots of wakeups and more standby drain than it should be and this does not feature at all on my HTC. This is not related to wifi, but I'm pinning the general crappy standy drain im getting on this but there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of it.

mdm_hsic is related to Modem part, you may try different modems (be mindfull of efs problem in newer firmwares), also try to enable/disable "fast dormancy". I think you could test that by selecting "GSM only" and observing.

I have tried different radios in the past. If that's what you mean?
I've also tested around with fast dormancy (it is currently disabled)
My network only works on 3G and has no 2G coverage. It is purely a 3G network and therefore GSM only will not work. This problem still persisted when I was on a different network though and selected gsm only fornthe majority of the time.

Yes, I was talking about radios.
Have you ever tried changing CSC file? Full, four part flash in Odin, not only PDA?
What method did you use for modifying fast dormancy setting? Because the correct one includes full factory reset when changing CSC. Anyway fast dormancy would be a problem only if you used 3G network for data.

Nope have not tried changing the CSC.
The method I used for fastdormancy was with that app in the marketplace than allows you to toggle it on and off. I'm not sure if fastdormancy is linked the mdm_hsic though, to be honest.

holy crap dude. factory reset that bish and see what you get after you set it back up
I had this problem, but it was the android system in my case not the android OS. I wiped the cache and drained my phone to 0% then charged it untill full.
The problem is gone. But still my battery life isn't great.
I think restricting background activity and putting loads all the apps to sleep should help ?
I have already putted some apps to sleep since I got the update, especially google, because it was crashing constantly.... Try it, it may help.
I put all my apps to sleep and enabled auto-brightness and here's the result (S9 Exynos)

Same screen resolution
Download GSam Battery Monitor from google play and use ADB to give it permission "adb shell pm grant com.gsamlabs.bbm android.permission.BATTERY_STATS", It should show what is draining the battery.
Is this good ?

Yes it is, I get similar results with wifi.
But there's a lot out there who can get up to 5-6 hours and I just don't know how?

I have the exynos model.
Here's what I get. Using social media, sometimes on wifi and sometimes on 4G...
Android's battery usage is not showing everything that's why I told you to use gsam monitor
With gsam we could see what is exactly in the "system" causing it to drain battery.
What's app seems to use a lot of battery.
What is your screen brightness level?

Did you modify any settings in the last 7 days?
That's what I got today, mostly on 4G, but it's not great for a flagship.?
Edit : It seems like you used your phone to watch youtube most of the time, right?
