Savaged zen 2.2.1 or any aosp kernel? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Evo w deck 1.2.1. I have tried tiamat and sz kernels. The latest tiamat 4.0.6 seemed to be ok but I would eventually get a random reboot from all governors except conservative. The sz kernel does great for the first few hours then starts giving me screen lag and the keyboard lags. I'm not overclocking before these issues arise. I am currently testing at 1113. The sz kernel on interactive runs awesome...until it decides to random reboot. All installs were done w complete wipes and cleanly done. I am using setcpu and have noticed the keyboard lag happen with or with out it. Anyone have any suggestions? I am enjoying the aosp Battery life and actually enjoy this rom but I never had these little issues on sense. Never rebooted. Never lagged. never got gradually worse in performance. Just worked great w subpar battery life.

Sticky UI w/ SetCPU & Kernels

Does anyone notice that SetCPU with kernels such as Hydra (1.15 uvoc) and King’s (#2 1.19) causes home screens and apps in drawer to scroll stickily?
I've ran both at max oc and it occurs. I know Hydra does not recommend setcpu. When I force stop setcpu with both kernels the problem goes away and the UI moves fast and slick.
Is there a way to have the benifits of SetCPU's Profiles while making the phone run fast and smoothly as when I force stop SetCPU???
Also are the battery drain problems that are plaguing people due to us using non-stock kernels... or us using oc kernels without SetCPU???
Personally, I've had nothing but disappointments with setcpu. Currently running kingklicks kernel #3 without setcpu. Plenty fast enough for me and better battery life than stock. I think the stock governor does a better job than setcpu.

Kingklick scaling is as good or better than creating profiles in setcpu. Using kingklick# 2 and# 3 as is has improved battery life greatly for me. I posted some" light use" battery life results in the kingklick thread and during the test period I was using setcpu to test the scaling abilities of kings kernal. Overclocking is overrated and setcpu doesn't play nice most of the time anyway. Use kingklick# 3 or# 2 as is and you should get good results. If not, im not much help. If you can't get kings kernal to be stable at least use an undervolted kernal.

Thatnks Sam. I agree. But I'm using #2 without setcpu. Its fast and smooth. Better Quad and Lin scores for me than #3 (currently trying) though but not significant. I'll see how it handles battle before I revert to #2
@Inc
I've been using king's #2 its performance is great. smooth without setcpu. What is the default speed of his kernels 2&3(oc1.19G) without setcpu?
Btw I'm running same phone configuration as your signature.

Are the ziggy kernels only for sense?

Are Ziggy's beta kernels (http://www.ziggy471.com/2011/03/19/beta-kernel-18-mar-11/) only for Sense or will it work for CyanogenMod 7?
It looks like it's only sense. Considering it's a 2.6.32 kernel. Gingerbread is made for 2.6.35 and up. Most of them now are all 2.6.37.x.
What about CyanogenMod 6?

Anyone know if it works on CM6?
I'm running the latest on cm 6.1. One word, Amazing! Use set CPU to access smartass governor. Battery lifeis something I've never seen and the phone stays cool at all times. This combination is God like, which I just discovered today.

^ Guess it does then. I've never been able to use Ziggy's kernels. They always crash and burn on my phone for some reason. But I'm using Chad's Incredikernel (3/18) with CM7. It also has smartass, a wonderful thing it is indeed . 128MHz screen off, max of 1113, and with HAVS. A good stable kernel for my phone. On CM6 I always ran InvisibleK's #18 I believe.

What is the most reliable 2.3 ROM/kernel combination for performance/battery life?

ssia.
I am currently using CM 7 with incredikernel. It's not bad but I have had mediocre battery life. Have it oc'd and uc'd. Have ran into some bad force close issues and recently the phone just freezes. Looking for something that just works.

The test leak works very well, but it does force close when you try to open settings/call/assisted dialing.
Use the latest nightlies, use incredikernel latest release (7/6). Try undervolting for better usage, do not OC- I found underclocking to 883 is sort of the sweet spot for performance/battery.
If your phone is freezing up then you may want to raise voltages.
Besides that setup I also had good battery luck with SR4.2 and incedikernel, but still feel CM7 has better battery performance.
You may want to check other apps to make sure they aren't using excessive CPU/data/GPS/vibrate.
You can do this by downloading "spare parts" from the market, and check under "Battery History".
I use OMFGB 1.3 nightlies with the 7/06 incredikernel undervolted and my batt life will be about 2 days with moderate to little usage.
Also, just do a check of all your settings making sure that stuff like "Always on mobile data" isnt on. I've caught myself a few times flashing between roms and forgetting to update settings.
I'm on optimized shift with the stock kernel and am pushing 4 days on a charge while I was getting 2 days on a 2.2 ROM

[Q] Best kernel for MIUI

I am currently using MIUI 1.7.29 Osimood with the Tiamat 1.04 kernel, and I am wondering what the best kernel is for battery life. I am also using the V6 supercharger ram script. I am running my CPU at 960mHz at the moment, using the smartass governer. I also undervolted using vipermod, 960MHz at 950mV.
My choice consists of the latest Pershoot, UmaroKernel 1.06 or Tiamat 1.04
What differences would I see between those kernels, are they noticeable for a regular user?
Sorry man, but wehre do you find the vipermod for desire z? http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/faq.php it's not compatibile with desire z/g2....
Uh...what's wrong with the kernel it comes with? Can OC to 1.5GHz stock ya know. Battery life is great with it too. People always want to flash something weather it be a radio or a kernel.

damn straight,
1) pershoot is a sense kernel? (i am proabably wrong but i have never tried this kernel)
2) umaro kernel i found had issues with wifi, high underclock freq (leading to poorer battery life), but fun if you have the time to tweak voltages and fast!
3) tiamat kernel i found had issues with sleep of death/random reboots on wakeup couldnt test it past that. (setcpu was set to screen off was: conservative 125min -345 max and would still crash)
if you are up for another kernel, i am now using this kernel (streamline5)
no voltage tweaking (pretweaked) but it has good batt, speedy and stable cant ask for much

Pershoot is actually for non-sense roms. The downfall people have with it is lack of governors. Some don't mind, some want variety. I've had great experiences with Pershoot's kernel and it's the baseline that all others are compared to (not to mention the foundation of almost ALL G2/DZ kernels).
Umaro's just needs to have voltage tweaks done manually but on the plus side - keeping the voltages normal (not UV) allows some people to reach higher OC speeds. It keeps the processor from bottoming out due to insufficient voltage which can easily happen when you UV. The main issue is with the Greased lightening governor - it's new and still a bit buggy.
Tiamat 1.0.4 is outstanding. I can sit all day at 2+ GHz (not literally, see: Chernobyl). I personally have an issue with the interactive governor but other than that it's my favorite kernel (Umaro may take that soon, once greased lightening is perfected).
Basically you just need to try out a few and see which you like. There is no 'best'. Most kernels will work with any ROM (Sense being the only exception).
Bumping a thread that is relevant to my interests.
It's about time for me to jump ship from an outdated CM ROM and try something new like a MIUI ROM.
With that said, I'd like to read more opinions & experiences from people using the various Kernels AND how the latest radio (the one released today) is working for them. I'm just trying to get the optimal experience here
Speaking of MIUI would anyone mind telling me some differences between OsiMood's ROM compared to the official MIUI-US ROM (or even DarkSpadez ROM)?
Thanks a ton guys!
I downloaded the official rom . . .then ignored it downloaded osimood and iv been using it since. Osimood is a lighter rom, which is always a good thing, unwanted languages etc are removed for a smaller faster rom. Also he preinstalls tweaks like an adblocker and extended settings mod.
Kernal wise iv been looking for the same info as you but couldn't find it. So I eneded up trying them all:
- Eugenes streamline5 is a nice kernal, preundervolted. Only probly is its not being updated so will become redundant.
-Tiamats kernal allows over clock to 2ghz and seems to support higher overclocks stably where other kernals can't. Except battery life has decreased with recent kernals
-Umarokernal this is the kernal iv come back to twice and am still on. It allows overclock to 1.9ghz and is kept updated by umaro. Performance per frequency seems as good if not better than most and osimoods miui runs smooth with this kernal on 800ghz with scarey governer (which saves battery) Another plus for me with this kernal is the scarey governer which for me definatly provides the best performance per battery ratio.
I'm currently running MIUI 1.8.5 with Eugene-Streamline 5 Kernel with the latest radio update Vision_Radio_12.57.60.25_26.10.04.12.
SetCPU with Governor ondemand provides me with better usage, power and responsive time then Smartass or Interactive.
OC to 1.2ghz
Battery life, about 30hrs with the regular 1350mah.

i just got 40 hours with similar setup but i use virtuous o/c daemon instead of setcpu
big fan of streamline5 and hope that it will get updated eventually
How do you get the virtuos o/c daemon?

Its basically like an automatic setcpu (which can't be changed on the fly) built into the rom, its in virtuous unity roms
What sleep profiles are you guys usein. I seem to have rebooting issues with any kernel I try unless I go to a sense rom. I've tried the vipermod now to see how it goes

But how do you get the virtuos O/C daemon to work on MIUI?
You can download it threw rom manager. Even with that kernel I get reboot issues. I assume its cause system ram isn't being cleard fast enough. I'm gonna try 100mv increase to see if there's a difference.

[Q] Bad Battery Life on AOSP roms only

When I am running any sense rom 2.2 or 2.3 running sense 2 -3 my battery life is fine and last me through out the day but any single AOSP rom i flash CM7 7.1 Stable or any other veriation with stock or custom kernal my battery life sucks. I have a 3700 battery and ran CM7 with Tiamat 4.0.6 and i unplugged from a 100% charge and under a minute I watched it drop 3% I tried setting the govnor to save battery even though I wanted speed, I wanted to see if that would help and still no change. It seems I cant run any non-sense roms. What am I doing wrong? this has been driving me nuts for a few months now and i cant figure it out. please help!
i was just using decks 1.2 with tiamat 4.0.6 and battery life was awwwful. i would maybe try going back to like tiamat 3.3.7 or something where i was able to push 25+ hours on decks.
Try tiamat 3.3.7 SBC and vipermod scripts...I have a 2600mah battery and I get at least a day& a half..also try seidio batteries

The problem is not with the kernel Im using though. I don't think. On sense Im using the HDMwIn Kernel and it works great. But I can use the stock CM7 Kernel and still have crappy battery life. I have my stock battery still and that works fine too so I know its not my battery that is the issue.
The steps I have taken when running CM7:
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Data
Wipe Boot
Wipe System
Wipe Android Secure
Wipe SDEXT
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Rotate
Wipe All (again)
Power Off and then Pull Battery
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe All
Flash CM7.1
Reboot and fully load into OS
RA Recovery
Flash GAPPS
Reboot and fully load OS
Setup my system and played around for a bit. Made a call, and a few text and then started to customize the look. Saw that the battery was draining slightly fast.
RA Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Flash Tiamat 4.0.6
Reboot and load OS
CM Settings to set governor to Conservative
Installed SetCPU and set it for battery life
Went to sleep, woke up with 100% charge and within 1 minute it had dropped 3%.
I thought after it had drained a little maybe it would even out but after a half day at work I was down to 15% battery when I normally get to 40% after heavy use on my Sense rom.

I was running decks 1.3b with the older tiamat kernel suggested.
I went and did a nandroid and installed the synergy + godmode rom and it works great with battery life. I just want to figure out why any combo of AOSP rom I run just kills the battery.
I noticed that as well. I was Rom shopping a week ago and ran 4 different roms. 2 aosp, miui and cm7 then 2 sense, kingdom roms. On aosp, my battery would be dead after i got out of work after Pandora for 5 hours. I was running the newest tiamat. Sense leaves me with about 27% depending if I skip a lot of songs which is enough to get me home. I just flashed a new sense kernel, so definitely awaiting to see how battery life acts when I decide to Pandora up at work. Not sure why sense lasts longer than aosp, just adding my personal experience.

Thats almost just like whats going on with mine. I run Pandora all day at work with a few breaks for calls and what not. but with sense it last alot longer. i just flashed the synergy rls2 + godmode and the battery life and speed are pretty awesome. i could get anything close to that with a aosp rom. I would like to though. i have a really nice minimalistic looking theme that i did, but just cant justify running it for 5 hours and then having to charge my phone again.
1. Let it set in.
2. Use savaged Zen with setcpu at 806 and conservative
3. Use super charger script to cut out any lag
4. Use viper mod to get more battery life
5. use chainfire 3d to improve battery life and performance
6. Love me forever
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
