For some reason, my Desire will NOT let me change roms after Oxygen 2.1.3. I've tried multiple roms today.
I wanted to try a 2fast MIUI version... nope.
Tried a CM7... nada.
Upgrade to latest Oxygen... forget it.
I do not know what is wrong here. I load up, and reboot, and it hangs on the HTC screen. Forever. So I reboot into recovery and flash back to Oxygen. It works. I try to flash a different rom, same hangup. So I flash back to Oxygen. And on and on.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right, since I can always flash back to old Oxygen, but I just don't get why this is happening. Any help?
Thanks!!

Plain ole Desire. (It's the only one they have offered)
I'd guess that you've changed your Hboot to the Oxygen one and that the other ROM's don't fit in that size system partition.
Try this,
boot into recovery, go under mounts and storage Format :system, cache, data then do a factory reset and then try and flash a new rom. Also Get quick system info in market and what dose your system, cache, data space say?
I think the rom needs to be made for cdma, your prolly flashing gsm roms on your desire hence it hanging on the bootscreen, majority of the roms available are gsm, check the wiki page I think it has a list of cdma roms for the desire.

Do any of the pre-rooted Froyo+Sense ROMs work with SLCD screens? Preferably as close as possible to HTC's ROM.
(Feel free to move to Q&A if it's more appropriate there).
I don't own a Desire but this'd be interesting to know now that Telus has released the NAM 3G Desire.
Well the official one should work 99% (cause it's official) and there's a rooted version floating around here.

There is no official Froyo update for the Telus Desire yet. Which is one reason I was asking.
And also - I thought that unrevoked3 fails to root a Desire that has received the stock Froyo OTA due to upgrading HBOOT to a more secure version?
Thus it would seem to me the best way for a Telus Desire user to get rooted Froyo is to find a pre-rooted ROM and avoid loading any OTA in order to remain on the lower HBOOT version.
im thinking of getting the HTC Desire with SLED.
Is there is a difference in the system that I will not be able to use the custom roms (including those labed official roms)?
Well you can root +reflash Eclair with unrevoked and then download the prerooted OTA FroYo here. Then you'll be able to install it through clockwork recovery

Are you saying that I'd have to flash a version of Eclair other than the one that comes with the Telus Desire, in order for the pre-rooted OTA FroYo to work?
Anyway my main question was - does this release of FroYo already work on SLCD phones? If yes, then it's all good.

This worked for me on a brand new Telus Desire.
I'm now using a rooted official 2.2 ROM.
Good to know, thanks!

When the SLCD Desires first launched there were reports of people trying to flash certain ROMs and getting a dark screen. There is even a tutorial on here for people who tried to downgrade HBOOT and now need to navigate a dark screen in order to restore functionality.
My understanding is that OpenDesire only added SLCD compatibility recently, so anyone who tried to flash that ROM before it was upgraded would have also had a dark screen.
Thus I ask... do any of the popular ROMs still fail on SLCD?

The clockworkmod only affects the recovery. In the rom's kernel there must be also support for the slcd. For example CM nighlies got the support on 08072010 version and on RC2.

Telus Desire Unlocked running on Rogers network - How can I install Android 2.2 Froyo
Hello,
I have an unlocked Telus Desire and I want to install Android 2.2 Froyo on it. I've tried downloading the various versions around the internet but I keep getting the following error:
E:Error in sdcard/update.zip (status 7) Installation Aborted
I'm not sure if this has to do with the fact the Telus Desire is version 8182 and the other ROMS are for the 8181 / 8183 version?
I would like to keep HTC sense if possible and not have to go through the whole process of rooting the phone (creating gold card, running revoke etc etc).
Can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know what I am doing wrong?
Much appreciated!

How exactly is your phone modded? If your running cmtd then you either need to change the partmap.txt and flash the boot patch after flashing rom.

I have an HTC S710D (China telecom version of Incredible 2) I unlocked the bootloader using official HTC method and recovery now says unlocked. I installed clockwork, wiped all the partitions and tried to flash CM 7.1, it installs with no errors but I'm stuck on the HTC screen after boot. I tried going back to Clockwork and re-flashing the rom but get the same result.
is CM 7.1 not compatible with my specific model? is there anything I can do to trackdown whats causing it to freeze.
I would appreciate any help.
(Also it would be great if you know any-other english roms that would be more compatible with my phone )
Thank you,
Do you have a nandroid backup? Just go to recovery and restore the backup and start over.
unfortunately I don't have a nandroid backup.
Ok,you have to download the PG32IMG.zip and put that in your rooted sd card.and then hold the volumen down and press the power botton to go to the boot loader, and then follow the instruction.very important make sure the ruu is compatible with your phone.when the all process is done you have to rename the ruu or delete the ruu if you dont rename or delete the ruu everytime that you go to the boot loader or recovery your phone goes back to stock.sorry my english,i know some one can help you out better.
Thanks for the instruction, can you let me know how I can confirm if a RUU is compatible with my phone? are there certain numbers I need to match?

is that the reason 3rd party roms don't work, because my radio wasn't flashed as part of installing the rom and current radio isn't compatible with them?
I thought radio isn't part of the rom file.
also my HBOOT isn't supported by revolutionary, is there a way for me to downgrade my HBOOT now that I have the HTC Unlock?

This was over on Newt's forum, and it was something Newt had to fix in the ROM if that really WAS the case.... I don't remember for sure though, and there's close to 5000 posts in that thread, so I can't really help you bud. Sorry
After trying several different ROMs (mainly Sense 1.9 up to 3.5) and 3 different memory cards I am still having reliability problems with my Desire. The main problem is now and again I press the wake button and nothing. The power button doesnt even work I have to take the battery out and reset.
I also get a fair bit of lag, especially with incoming calls, even after having a play with Daemon Controller settings.
I can just about live with it but as I am likely to want to sell the phone soon i was wondering if anyone could recommend the most solid ROM. Preferably one that doesn't use an EXT3/4 partition as it could possibly be running apps from this that's causing the problem. I'm not bothered about Sense either.
I am currently running AceSMod007 v42, Recovery 4EXT v2.2.7 RC6, Stock HBoot.
The easier it is to install the better and even if its vanilla android I'm not bothered. I just don't want any comebacks when I sell it as the phone has caused me enough headaches.
ps Is a new battery likely to help or is that clutching at straws?
Put it back to stock like it used to be. That will eliminate or at least lessen the possibility of buyer comebacks caused by buggy custom roms. If the buyer wants it rooted, he/she should do it themselves.
How do you do that exactly?

I haven't done it personally but I believe you can flash it over as long as the phone is on stock hboot which I think it is. If you are s-off, you may need to flash a downgrader from alpharev. (Can anyone confirm this is required for stock hboot? I had the impression it's only for cm7r2 and oxygen hboots.)
You'll lose root and s-off (if you s-offed your device before). Make sure you chose the right RUU for your phone.

Only r2 hboots.
I think I might have to give it a try as my phone is very unreliable now as it keeps just switching off and won't reset unless I pull the battery. Happens about once a day.
Do I flash it through recovery as usual?
Also, if you want a solid rom, you can't get much more solid than Cyanogenmod. It's actually more stable than the stock rom for my part. Another option is MIUI, but the iPhone-like interface might be a bother.
Thanks, do you mean CyanogenMod-7 for Desire GSM V7.0.3 rom as the download link was broken when I checked?

Possibly not for another 6-8 weeks so I don't fancy returning to Stock and still having problems and having to mess about getting it S-Off and rooted again.
And to be fair if it wasn't randomly switching itself off I might consider hanging on to it longer as when it works properly its a pretty decent phone, I just cant live with the unreliablility.
So has anyone got a link for the CM Rom?

My HTC Desire "breaks" most times I'm trying to install a Custom ROM.
The only ROM that has worked so far was Sandvold Beta 0.11.
I've also tried: D-Sense 4.0 Alpha 0.4, Cool 3D Runny v7.
Every time I flash those ROMs via Clockwork Mod Touch 5.8.0.2, the installation process finishes without any problems, but when I reboot the phone it hangs at the ROMs boot screen forever (not the HTC screen).
I have a GSM Desire (Bravo) S-OFF, Stock Hboot 6.93.1002, PVT1, Radio 5.11.05.27
I hope someone can help me as I'd love to have the Desire running ICS and some kind of HTC Sense...

Most Sense roms require ext partition as they store their data there because of the limited internal memory Desire has. No roms that have ext in their requirements will work this way.
Find some guides on how to partition you SD-card.
OK, I have created a 1GiB sd-ext with ClockworkMod and both ROMs install but they still don't want to boot.
I've checked the SD card in a PC and there is a 1GiB ext3 partition at the end of the card.
