Just rooted my Defy with Superoneclick and downloaded Setvsel. My problem is that the oc-program won't start. The screen just goes black and after i while i have to force it to shutdown. Anyone knows why it does this?
Do you have 2nd Init instaled? If so, there's an option to enable oc and after that setvsel will work. Another option is install Droidoverclock(if a remember well), and enable oc, then setvsel works too.
No i dont have "2nd Init" installed, didn't know that it was required to run Setvsel.
It's not a pre requisite, but it enable oc feature in android. Install Milestone Overclock from market. Milestone OC will enable the same feature, and after that setvsel will work.

I've just installed Milestone Overclock and when i start it comes to a screen where i have two options: "Load module" and "Refresh". Under these options is a slider that says "Selected frequency: 550MHz 56 vsel (Default)". And under the slider is an box greyed out due to the fact that i don't have my sd-card installed (took it out when i rooted the phone). Sadly none of the options, "Load module" and "Refresh" that is, seems to work. What am i doing wrong? I thought it was as simple as rooting the phone and then play around with Setvsel.

Which version of android you're running?
I'm running leaked 2.3.3-112, with enabled oc in 2nd init.
When Milestone OC starts on my phone, the first button is "Unload module", because the oc is already enabled, and in your case, you have to click on "Load Module", but if is not working, i don't know why. This module is used for setvsel.
I'm running Android 2.2 (Froyo). But during all this time i have had the usb-cable connected to my computer and USB debugging enabled, But that shouldn't matter should it?
install milestone overclock...click on load module..dont care wat it does or wat it doesnt..now open setvsel..it should be working by now..
if it is still not working then uninstall and then reinstall milestone overclock after a reboot
hope it helps
So this is excatly what i did yesterday, i describe it thoroughly so someone with more knowledge maybe can spot what i did wrong.
1. Downloaded The newest version of Superoneclick
2. Downloaded the newest drivers for my Defy from the Motorola website, named "Download Motorola 5.0 Driver with MotoHelper", and installed them.
3. Dismounted the sd-card
4. Turned on USB-debugging in the settings-menu.
5. Connected my Defy to my computer and rooted it (since i'm not on Vista or Win7 i just doubleclicked on the program and pushed the root button). Everything worked fine so far and the "superuser" icon apperad shorlty after.
6. Now i downloaded Setvsel and tried to start it up. I was treated to a black screen but i kept on waiting for something to happen. After about 30s i got a message that the program can't launch and internetaddress.
7. After the advice that i should download "2nd Ini" i did so but that program wouldn't launch either. Then i tried with Milestone Overclock but only got to the screen where the "load module" option is and after having pushed that button the program just hangs and i have to push tha backbutton repeatedly to force the program to shutdown.
So i don't understand what's wrong i thought it was as simple as rooting my phone and then install Setvsel and play around with it? Never heard that Setvsel requires 2nd Init or Milestone to work.
yup.it will hang...let it hang...did u see whether setvsel was working after tat?it should work

No, i uninstalled it after Milestone OC just hang. I reckoned i must get into Milestone first to make SetVsel work. Don't understand why SetVsel won't work after i rooted it and why i must install another program to make it start. No one mentioned this to me, all i heard was "root your phone, install SetVsel and give it a go".
same thing used to happened to me too..milestone OC used to hang when load module was pressed...but after tat setvsel used to work...
do this..uninstall both and reinstall both..dont run setvsel...first run milestone OC..and click on load module..now open setvsel...this should work..it always works..

Ok. I'm just so fed up with the whole business right now, but i'll try later this evening maybe. I just want to understand why SetVsel won't start the easy way (without involving Milestone). For alot of people it does, maybe i'm doing something wrong that will brick my phone somehow?
nope this wont brick ur phone.even i was fed up of this setvsel problem in the beginning..i rerooted 5 times to make it work...atlast i thought to use milestone oc instead of setvsel..but later i noticed tat setvsel was working...after few hrs i installed new rom..followed same process..and it was working..make sure u have latest version of setvsel...

But didn't Milestone OC hang for you aswell? So what you suggest is. Install Milestone and SetVSel. Start Milestone and push "load module" and then when it hangs, what should i do? Force it to shutdown by pushing the back-button and then try to start SetVsel?
it shouldnt hang...and even if it hangs then close it and open setvsel...see if its working or not...hope for the best

Yeah will do so. It's just frustrating that SetVsel won't work from the beginning the way i've read it does for alot of people. Maybe there's a OC-program that works right from the start on my phone. Will post on other forums an see what they have to say about it. I'm a curious person and it's in my nature to want to understand the reasons when i encounter a problem rather than go around it without understanding what i'm doing. I've overclocked alot ot computers and now my way around a BIOS, but on my phone i can't even get in at the moment
After install setvsel, run it. Superuser permission will pop out, then allow it. After you allow it, it should run ok. If nothing pop out, setvsel cannot run and will hang. Try reset factory first then re install

No "superuser permission box" popped up when i first started SetVsel. Strange since i can see the superuser icon clearly among the apps meaning that i rooted it correctly. Am thinking of trying to install CM7 instead. Have read how to do it and sadly it seems as a rather lenthy process. I fear that since the simple process of rooting and running SetVsel didn't work ,installing CM7 will be impossible
Going to cm7 will be a good choice. Read cm7 faq before proceeding

Hi all,
I tried to run setvsel on MotoGinger 2.3.4 but it just rebooted my phone, So i guessed the ko overclock module might be missing and installed the "milestone overclock" but I'm unable to load the module as the device name is MB526 and not MB525.
Did anybody try setting the vsel? will the setvsel work if we push the overclock module using adb?

I installed the 2ndInit and enabled overlocking there in its own menü.
I also enabled the modules there.
After that Setvsel worked perfectly without Milestoneoverlock.

Awesome.. It worked for me as well.. Thanks..
BTW.. Whats your vsel settings?
i am just experiencing with some undervoltage and thinking
over if i really need 1100MHz at all...
I usually dont play high graphic games, So I dont even need 1000 Mhz, I have set my vsel to [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] I usually travel a lot so I need a big powersaving rom, Looks like motoGinger is quite good so far..
What's the effect, conflict or different between just enable overclock and its modules in 2nd-init than enable overclock in 2nd-init followed with running setvsel to perform the overclocking??
1) will the device get overclocking by just enable it in 2nd-init?
2) Or we must install setvsel to make it run overclock properly?

good question, Even I was just wondering, Which one gets the priority? is it the setvsel or the 2nd init?
My only guess is the control first goes to 2ndinit during bootup and after it comes to the idle screen and we see the msg from Su for setvsel it takes over the priority.
Correct me if I'm wrong..

1. Yes, the device is overclocked from 2nd-init if you enable that.
2. SetVsel is good for batery saving, with settings like limit to vsel1 while screen off, etc, so SetVsel is a "must have" on Defy.

Can you provide information on which version of 2ndInit you're using, and which modules you enabled? Thank you.
You can use the latest 2ndinit from the market, then in system --> overclock --> status choose enable, set vsel values (mine are : 22\300, 33\600, 56\1000, 66\1200 - same values in SetVsel), save and reboot. With this settings for me SetVsel works well, without random reboots and games like NFS runs smooth.
Just Enable overclock on bootmenu and load all modules then it will work
It worked! Thanks for your help everyone!

After a year of owning this EVO, the last few months my phone just sucks..
Laggy as hell.. Embarrassing to say the least.. Started with fresh, then when to Warm2 or whatever it was called..
Finally my phone became so laggy, probably due to the fact I ran up my 8 gig SD card and internal memory..
Went ahead and installed Synergy RLS1.. Didn't fix much of the problem.. so I decided to format the SDcard and do the partition deal.. Installed Synergy with God mode.
Things are even worse now.. Its just horrible, between the 4G, being stuck trying to turn on, things force closing.. Just horrible..
So I want to switch back to RLS1, but before I do so I thought I would ask you guys for your expertise as I've gotten over the years being here..
Whats the deal with "scripts" I know NOTHING about them and trying to read them is making my brain hurt..
I just want a smooth running phone with everything working.. I've read that scripts or whatever is the answer to making things non laggy again..
So Im going to flash Synergy RLS1 now.. Then would like to know what scripts and how?
Thanks guys!
I don't know much but I read up on everything and currently I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC with Tiamat 4.07 SBC. I set up V6 Supercharger and put it on MegaRam and my phone is running better than it ever has. As well as apps that force close often on stock, barely ever force close on my set up.
Thanks..
Im looking to see if someone could explain to me how to run a script and which one like I'm a 5 year old.. lol
Currently I just flashed Synergy RLS1 and would like to run the scripts deal.. This is all new to me..
The thread that zepplinrox has goes into detail, made pretty simple for human consumption. Basically you need to download two things. One is BusyBox Installer. This will allow you to run install BusyBox 1.18.2. This is what is needed to get you phone to understand the script. The second app you need is Script Manager. This is an interface that makes running the script as easy as opening a file in Astro or File Manager. Download the script, In this case you want the V6 Supercharger, and place it on the root of the sdcard.
After it is on the card, and you have the other two apps installed, open Script Manager and allow it root access through Superuser. Scroll to the bottom of SM and choose the Supercharger script. It will look like you are running a dos prompt. Check the box that says "run as root" and the run the script. From there just follow the instructions on the screen and Viola. You have a sweet running EVO.

thank you.. Correct me if I'm wrong..
What I am to do is the following in order..
#1 Download and install "Busy box 1.18.2."
#2 Download and install "Script Manager"
#3 Download "V6 Supercharger" and put it on the root of the SDcard
#4 Open Script Manager and scroll to the SDcard and open "V6 Supercharger" it will run automatically, just check off "run as root"
Is this all correct?
If so, Where do I get these 3 files from? Also, can this all be done from my phone? I mean I can download all the files from my computer and just move them over to my phone correct? I don't need to install any of these on my computer do I?
THANKS BRO!
EDIT** I see "Script Manager" In the market as well "Busy Box"
Do I download and install both of these?
EDIT##2
I downloaded both Busybox and Script manager from market..
When I open Busy box it asks me which version to install.
Here are the options
It says current version is V.1.18.4
and it says
1.19.2
1.18.5
1.18.4
1.17.1
??? THANKS
Ok..
So I did it..
I got the right busybox version and installed that.. Then installed script manager
I downloaded 1 file
V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update7.sh.txt
There was an update8 but nothing mentioned 8 so I just went with 7
I checked off run as root, and ran the script.. It asked for options 1-16.. I picked number 6, which is balanced 3 or whatever..
Then after it was all over, I chose option 16 to reboot..
Phone is rebooted..
Seems ok so far.. How do I ensure its working? It seems snappier thats for sure..
When mine got like that, I just ran the RUU for my phone and started over. Fixed everything just fine.

one question i have is: is your SD card partitioned with an EXT partition?
if you look through the Synergy RLS1 thread it appears to be a known issue that having a partitioned SD card can cause your phone to run slow (especially if you have a slow SD card) since the synergy ROM by default has a lot run off the EXT partition if it is present.
even though i have a class 6 SD card (it is fairly fast) i still experianced slow issues and or laggy issues.
to fix the issue you can install Dark Tremor A2SD from the synergy updater app. when you have this installed you can tell the phone to not run stuff from the SD card.
LOL with the amount of information I'm gonna explode..LOL
First all I read about what how great it is to partition your sdcard.. now soomeone is saying its bad ... its running pretty damn good now.. since I ran this new script deal at least... I will see how its running in the coming days.. thanks

I know that Synergy has some of the best Dev's there are working on it, but as much as I've read, I sometimes think it's about as reliable as ROM Manager and CWM, as in not reliable
Can someone tell me if there is any other scripts I should run??
Right now all I ran was V6supercharger
Should I run other ones as well? And if so can someone point me to the right spot? THANKS
Bump!!! Anyone?
BUMP!!! Anyone??
Installed the V6supercharger script and want to know since this one is so great, is there any others I should install as well?
If you're running AOSP, the vipermod is great, to undervolt. It can be found in the development section.

Yes it is a script. I didn't know you were running sense, as why I said you could try it if you were on AOSP; there is an equivalent to the vipermod for sense by calkulin, though I don't know it by name.
If your phone is running smoothly now, I wouldn't mess with it. V6 is great, especially for those on Sense roms. I tried it on AOSP and didn't really notice much of a change, but my phone runs smoothly already.
If you're getting some lag on your larger apps, like your launcher, you can try increasing the dalvik vm heap size to ~40 or above if needed. The easiest way to do so would be with the app "VM Heap Tool". It shouldn't counteract with V6 in any way, but if it does then you can just set it back to 32.
But as I said, if you're happy with your phone at this point, then don't change anything. Also realize that scripts are not the only way to improve your phone's performance. This script worked for you, but that doesn't mean someone else's suggestion is less helpful because it isn't a script (or because you don't know what it is and think that it isn't a script). A script is just a means for performing some action on your phone.
And since you're happy with V6 SuperCharger & it helped you - you should head over to the original thread for it and click the thanks button for zepplinrox if you haven't already.

Ever since I received the upgrade to gingerbread (first 4.06 and now 4.08), Sense will get shut down when I am in other applications. Then when I hit the home button I get the white "HTC" screen and then sense has to start up and reload all my home screens and widgets. It typically happens when I use the browser but has sometimes happens when in other applications.
Here are the things I've tried to keep this from happening:
* reducing the number of things on my home screens
* removed all widgets to try and reduce the memory footprint
* factory reset/cleared dalvik cache
* renice <htc.com.launcher process> -20
* installed Auto memory manager (AMM) and set it to "aggressive" mode
* using AMM reset the priority of "HTC Sense" from 6 down to 2 and specified "always keep alive" but the kernel seems to just reset the priority.
What's really annoying is when I look at the list of processes, things like facebook and weatherbug have a higher (meaning lower number) priority than Sense. Does anyone have any idea how to force Sense to be given priority over other apps so it can stop from being shut down?

with any OTA its recommended to do a factory reset. did you do this? its a pain to loss all your data but it might fix your problems.
sorry i didnt have my morning coffee yet.... If you wiped dalvik then that means you have root. your phone is not shutting down. something is killing rosie (the sense launcher.) and that why the white HTC splash screen comes up again. What rom are you runing? i know its the OTA but is it the RUU or one of the devs roms based off RUU??

If you read his entire post you would know he did a factory reset.
My best guess is to go back to stock sense before the last ota (by rooting and flashing or whatever way you wish..sbf or whatever) then download the ota on your computer and try manually updating your phone..if that doesn't work then I don't know

You'll just want to make sure you have busybox 1.18.2 installed, then run the script with Script Manager, and you'll want to select either 6 or 7 (I use option 7), then reboot. It won't brick your phone, but you can always run a nandroid backup to have something to fall back to.

Is this the correct script manager app: https://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager ?
Noob question, how do I check which version of busybox I have installed. I found one in TitaniumBackup that is 1.18.14 but that looks like it is local to TitaniumBackup. I did find "toolbox" in /system/bin which looks like the stock rom's version of busybox. Is this what I should be looking at or is busybox installed somewhere else?

Yes, that's the app.
Download this app as well: Busybox Installer
It'll tell you what version you have (if you have it), then you can select what version you want to install. No need to adjust where it installs, just leave that at the default, just select version 1.18.2, then hit Install.
I read through the script just to get a sense (no pun intended) of what it was doing and then installed Busybox 1.18.2 and applied setting 11 "Hard to kill launcher" from the script. I've done a bunch of browsing to sites that normally caused Sense to get shut down and so far so good.
I initially installed busybox with symlinks and it the script threw a ton of errors so I reinstalled with symlinks to fix that.
Thanks for all the help. For completeness, here is a link to V6 Supercharger so all the links are in this one thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 .
One thing I did have to change because I am running Sense and not a stock android launcher is the name of the launcher process itself.
On line 64, I changed this "pidof com.android.launcher" to this "pidof com.htc.launcher"
will the V6 script it just tells the android memory system to not reclaim memory from the launcher app so it stays on no matter what happens. only way to kill it is to go to settings and FC the launcher. also with the script you cant brick the phone because its not ran till after the phone boots. The term brick means : that the phone will not boot at all. you just have a phone that does nothing at all not even turn on. You can soft brick the phone meaning the software will not boot. all you need to do is make a backup before installing the script and you will always have a way back if anything happens.
for me i run the beta V6 script option under -=*512HP*=- which is more of a balanced one with bullet prof launcher and its is wonderful. but each phone is different so just try them out and see what works for you.

I did "soft" brick the phone recently when I deleted build.prop and forgot to put a new one in it's place before I rebooted. Had to use adb to access the phone to restore build.prop. I can tell you that was a nervous few minutes after I realized what I had done. Definitely not a recommended activity.

Yeah, you kinda need that one there!
Good job getting it replaced using adb and all, good to hear you figured it out!

yes that will do it. lol i did that a long time ago when i wanted to edit it my fat finger deleted it. now as good practice i always make a copy of it but add .bak at the end of it so if i do delete it i can just replace it before reboot.
I've been using options 1, 8, and 12 in the V6 Supercharger and my phone has been running great. What options did everyone else choose?
Hi,
Since i can't post in the thread, so I just highlight in here.
I've been using this rom for about a month. This rom is really nice but since the new update, it gets even better. Only one small thing, the LED flashlight widget in the quickpanel didn't show up although you have tick it in the settings.
That's all. I hope someone could tell this to Spizzy01 so that he can fix this.
Thanks...

Aurora Play Problems
Hello,
I just installed Aurora Play 1.1.0 and I am having problems which I think might be related to superuser.
The Rom works fine, but anything that requires root access gets frozen in place. My phone is rooted, I am pretty sure of it - not only the bootloader is unlocked but also, I did manage to initially change the clock speed to 1.4 ghz, and that change has remained so far.
However, if, for example, I try enabling root access on the ES File Explorer, it simply freezes the app (sort of like it is waiting for the confirmation from Superuser, but it never comes). I only ever saw the superuser authorization screen once when I changed the clock at first.
I am pretty sure the OC is not the problem, since I reinstalled the rom and did no OC on the 1st time at all, but the same problem persisted.
I would try uninstalling SU and installing that other superuser app on the market to see if that would solve the problem, but I couldn't manage to uninstall it.
Any thoughts on this? I would love to solve this problem since this room is outstanding on all other accounts.
PS.: I followed all instructions to the letter, and like I said I tried reinstalling the rom already. I am using Lupus v10 (tried Lupus v11 before on the 1st installation).

Please try downloading the following ZIP and flashing it VIA clockwork mod.
Let me know the results.

Can CWM coexist with TWRP? I think I only have TWRP installed. Or can I just use TWRP instead?
missing pixels in landscape app drawer
Spizzy, first and foremost congratulations on this great rom, it is fantastic! The only gripe I'm having is that when the app drawer is in Landscape mode it is cutting some pixels on the bottom (can't see the lower end of the blue highlight when using the ps controls). Other than that, all is perfect so far.
It worked!
Thanks a lot, Spizzy! Whatever that package was, it worked great and now superuser is not giving me any headaches anymore. Everything works great and the rom is blazing fast!
Just one thing - when I checked the info that comes up on the pachage before installing it, it said it was for locked bootloaders, but I assume that was a typo (since the zip file is for unlocked, and mine is unlocked as well). Just mentioning since it could maybe cause a little confusion on people downloading it in the future.
Oh and I did use TWRP in the end - I guess it's the same thing.
Hi guys, recently ive been playing about with roms and i decided to use the aurora play rom for a bit. I had lupusv12 kernel installed at this time with profiles installed. I flashed lupusv12.5 over v12 since they had the same partitions. I also installed auroraplay rom, it came built in with no frills cpu which i didnt like. The reason for that was because it kept inter-fearing with my profiles from setcpu (not letting em work). So i decided to use a file explorer and delete the no frills cpu app built into the rom. After that set cpu's profiles still were not working. So i changed back to stock, still with the lupusv12.5 kernel, and now the profiles (eg opening gta vice city OC to 1.6ghz) still wernt working, and when i went back to setcpu it would take a while to load then crash then i would have to reopen it again for it to work. Profiles still not working, what in the world is going on? The overclocks like moving the slider to 1.6ghz still overclocks but the profiles wont do it, Its annoying to have to keep opening setcpu then open the game, then close the game then open set cpu to return to normal, really annoying, can anyone help?
SetCPU issue.

Have you already tried uninstalling the nofrills CPU app?
Deleting it on the system/app folder may affect some code that is causing an issue on your Setcpu app.
Removing the app on the root folder might not be enough to remove all the code link on the rom.
I suggest using titanium backup or any app that can uninstall a system app.

i should have said somthing sooner but i already fixed the problem, and i tried uninstalling it, and it failed, so thats why i deleted it. I fixed my issue by erasing the system/data then reflashing the stock rom and everything worked again, cheers for trying to help though. :good:
