[Q] Remote control PC using Wifi - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. OK so I've seen a lot op apps for android to control your PC, like Unified Remote. But every app I've seen requires the user to connect both the phone and the pc to a wireless router.
I want to be able to access my pc DIRECTLY through my phone using my Wifi adapter that is plugged into my PC, and control it that way.
I don't want to connect my pc to the wifi router before I can control it.
Does anyone know how to do this; and is it ever possible to do this???

As another case.. Do you like to use USB instead WiFi? Or Bluetooth?

It is to simple for words:
1. go to wifi
2. go to wifi-hotspot
3. enable it
4. go to your pc and look for HTC Portable Hotspot

Simpler way..... only PC and smartphone that's all

You should be connected to internet from your computer and phone through your Wifi Adapter. If both PC and phone are connected to internet, you can access your PC from phone using various applications such as TeamViewer, unified remote etc.
Also, if you would like to have remote access between computers, you can use various remote support services such as gosupportnow, logmeinrescue etc.

Wifi Tether on PS3 and Encryption Question

So I'm using wireless tether app and it runs great on my PC. My PC's wifi card found my phone with no problem and connected to it. I gave my PC access control in the app and I can now access internet. However, when attempting to scan for networks on my playstation 3 it does not see my phone. I have assigned an SSID from within the app. Also, something else I noticed that was weird if anyone knows, I enabled wifi encryption but the setup methods threw me off with the Auto, iwconfig, and wpa_supplicant. I chose wpa_supplicant and gave the phone a password but when I connected my PC to the tether it never prompted me for a password (weird?). So if anyone knows what all this stuff means and also how I can get my playstation 3 to see my phone please let me know! Thanks in advance!!
Read this on another forum... but i believe it holds true...
"The PS3 will only connect to an Infrastructure Access Point. The wifi tether can only create an Ad-Hoc connection."
from this forum
You can however connect your PC/Laptop through wifi tether... then connect the PS3 to the PC with an ethernet cable... and internet connection sharing (ICS) enabled on that port.

[Q] Vnc Server USB or WiFi

Hello,
i need to control all part of my desire when i'm at pc and is borig to take always the phone for reply to sms for example.
So i need to control it with my pc. I have installed Droid VNC but it's doesen't work.
I have rooted my phone of course and i have tried to connect with vnc viewer and with Firefox but i have always timeout connection problem.
So my question is how can i connect and control my desire in vnc mode??
Thanks!
Are you using your own WiFi access point or are you at a cafe or at the work place? Can you ping your phone from your computer?
If no: fix your WiFi setup or try via USB (see http://opensourceexcedio.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/droid-vnc-server/). If you are not at your own WiFi access point, the network might be setup in a way that the computers/phones on the network cannot talk to each other, but only to the Internet ("client separation").
If yes: did you try with some other servers like Webkey or Remote Web Desktop?
I have tried with adb port forwarding without success.
I have a wifi switch connected to hub. My isp limit me to three devices connected at same times so I have bought a wifi switch to avoid this limitation.
I can connect to administrator page of switch trough wifi devices but vnc doesen't work at all.
How can I do?

[Q] use pc internet on xperia arc

why sony ericsson doesnt allow to phone use the internet connection from pc ?
There's not much demand for it, most people have wifi routers these days.
You can use your PC's internet connection on your phone if you have Linux (through USB) or laptop (through Wi-Fi) with Conectify or similar programs.
Also, I don't think the blame's on SE, but on Android OS.
Yeah i guess this is about android and did u ever try to search about bluetooth connection? we were using this at java phones, example w series...
htc wildfire s has option for using pc net in mobile...
How is your computer connected to the internet? Cable? WiFi? Something else?
Does your computer have WiFi?
If your computer is connected via cable to modem/router, and it has WiFi, create a WiFi network to share the connetion and connect via your phone.

Tethering on Mobilicity - same or different ip address?

I have a question regarding tethering via wifi on my T989D.
I am using the Juggernaut v5.0 on my Telus T989D. It has wifi-sharing app built in. When I use this application to share my mobile internet with my PC, I get two different ip addresses. For example, use my PC's browser, I find my PC's ip address is 123.123.123.57, however my phone's IP address is 123.123.123.101. So my phone and my pc have different ip addresses.
Strange enough, my Samsung Vibrant (T959 from TMobile), is different. I use wifi tethering for root user app, and I find my PC and my phone (T959) share the same ip address.
Why they are different on my T989D?
The problem I am having right now is, tethering via T989D's built-in function is slow. Sometimes connection drops. However the tethering via my T959 is very reliable and fast.
Is there a way to disable built-in tethering on T989D and use the tethering for root user app on my T989D? I have tried to freeze the tether manager, but tethering for root user still has error in log and I cannot connect to it at all.
Please help, I want to fix my tethering problem with T989D.
thanks
think about it...
when you are WiFi tethering, your phone is acting as the router, and it provides its own IP to you
you don't get the Mobilicity IP on your laptop or whatever it's hooking up to your phone on WiFi
Sorry I don't get it.
Why my T989D and T959 act differently?
Basically there are two ways of tethering your phone to your PC, (to allow the PC to access the internet through your phone's data connection). The first way is connect PC to the phone, and then to configure your PC to see the phone as the network adapter. This is the method used when you configure USB tethering and you connect the PC to the phone with a USB cable. In that case there will only be 1 IP address assigned, because the PC is using the phone as the network adapter. (Imagine the phone is just an ethernet adapter for the PC)
The second way is to connect your phone to your PC and then to configure the PC to access the phone as if it were a Wireless Access Point (WAP). This is the method used when you use Wi-Fi sharing, (called Portable Hotspot). It's called sharing because the phone can share access to its data connection through its Wi-Fi hardware, for up to 8 different PCs simultaneously. In order to do this the phone has to route data requests correctly between the connected computers. It does this by assigning itself 1 IP address, and then assigning each PC that's connected to it, a different IP address. This is similar to setting up a wireless router at home to share a single internet connection between multiple PCs.
Usually USB tethering results in 1 IP address for both phone (network adapter) and PC, and Wi-Fi sharing/tethering results in 1 IP address for the phone and another IP address for each connected PC. However, I suppose it's possible to use different Wi-Fi tethering software that connects the PC to the phone via Wi-Fi, using only 1 IP address for both phone and PC, like the USB tether method. This would mean you couldn't share the connection, but it may work faster, since the phone wouldn't need to do any routing.
If the android-wifi-tether app is what you refer to as "wifi tethering for root user app", it's worth it to see if it works on the T989. (I'd be curious if it works too). However, if you're using Juggernaut 5.0, you should be able to install android-wifi-tether, and it should work. You shouldn't actually have a Tethering manager app in your list of apps, I don't and I'm using 5.0. If you do, and freezing Tethering manager doesn't allow this app to work, then I would try freezing both the Wi-Fi sharing app and the Wi-Fi sharing manager app as well. If it still doesn't work I'd be tempted to reflash the Juggernaut 5.0 ROM, and then install the android-wifi-tether app again, and see if it works.
Good Luck..
Thanks Jasnn, this really helped and I am now clear.
Yes, the application I am referring to was android-wifi-tether. It works flawlessly
on T959D. it is very slow on my T989D with Juggernaut 5.0/Telus modem.
If I reboot the phone and start tethering using android-wifi-tether, the application starts, but there is one error in log:
Setting ad-hoc mode: failed.
IP address are still different. My pc and phone has two different ipaddress.
I'd like to have the same ipaddress, also one thing bugs me is, the internet connection is not stable, the internet goes on and off. Lots of t989/D users have experienced this problem, there is no cure yet.
thanks

[Q] WiFi hotspot as server?

I want to be able to switch on my WiFi hotspot, connect a laptop to it, and move data to and from the phone's storage as if the phone was acting as a server. Is this at all possible? Essentially I want to use the phone as a portable server for computers that I service in the home for clients. I want to be able to access my tools and software and files by connecting the client's laptop to my phone's wifi hotspot and then browsing to the server on that network to access the files. Anything to make this possible? Thanks in advance!
You're better off using a flash drive and just plugging into the computers...
It'd be slow and cumbersome even if you could get it to work.
I can only plug one flash drive into one computer at a time. Would really like to make this work, if anyone has any ideas. Thanks
