Root Gingerbread OTA with Hardware S-off (XTC Clip) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Do we know if there is a way to Root the Gingerbread OTA if you have S-Off using the XTC Clip?

Yes, you will retain S-OFF if you flash the OTA. Then you would need to reinstall ClockworkMod recovery and then root the phone.

Yeah I think that is more what I am looking for is which CWM should be flashed after the OTA is installed and how do you go about rooting it?

In the Restore root access: thread, I noticed it says it will restore the stock kernel, I believe that is the Froyo Kernel. I may be wrong though.

You are correct. I just downloaded and looked at the zip file. The OP rmk40 has a patched superuser zip file that you can flash. The one I originally downloaded was rmk-superuser-V1.0.0.zip.

[Q] Finally managed to get update.zip, but we are having issues..HELP PLEASE!

Not only that, it has the following issues
-HTC Sense Flip Clock not updating AT ALL(I am having this issue as well) Resolved!
-Android market, being able to dowload/install apps(i have not had this problem
-And not being able to unlock via menu button(never heard of doing that with 2.1 either? but someone reported it)Resolved!
Did you flash the stock recovery before flashing the official OTA? It specifically says to do so on the S-OFF wiki.

ClockworkMod Recovery without S-OFF

I got a PVT4 Desire rooted S-ON and want to backup my current ROM.
I would like to use ClockworkMod Recovery, but can I flash it on recovery without S-OFF?
And I don't want to flash alpharev and hboot without a recovery. Is there any possibility getting a new working Version on my PVT4?
Thank you!
What recovery do you have now?
What version do you want flash (I mean version of CWM)?
Did you search the forum? Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002930
Now I got the one RomManager downloads and flashes = 2.5.0.7 <-- won't work with PVT4 Desire
I want the best/newest I can get with S-ON. Is 3.2.0.1 the newest for desire?
I think it is.
But the only way to flash it permanently (as S-ON) is the Unrevoked root tool.
Which means, you have to select the recovery (as custom recovery) in Unrevoked and root again.
There is no "best". Take the one that suits your needs and, more importantly, is working. Here's the CWM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039954
And here's the 4EXT thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154221
Take your pick and let unrevoked do the rest.

But don't forget to download the recovery in .IMG format and select as CUSTOM RECOVERY when starting Unrevoked.

Well, the last posting in that thread says to use unrevoked with a custom recovery image, but davebugyi's answer is quite as good

Unpack this, and select recovery.img in unrevoked.

Personally I'd just S-OFF your phone, in my opinion that's just the easier way.. that and having the addition of extra options of a. easier to fix your phone of something goes wrong and b. having the option of flashing different SPL/Hboot c. having the option of flashing different radios d. perma-flashing recoveries is easier
S-OFF'ing with revolutionary is a breeze and takes under a minute...
4EXT is some other Recovery, not CwM? I think I'll S-OFF it a after the holidays means net saturday/sunday
Thank you!
Yep, it's not cwm recovery.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App

OTA w/ root and CWM

if you have a rooted and CWM (unlocked BL) but running stock HOX
Can you still use an OTA safely?
Or do you have to reflash stock recovery?
Or also relock?
Finally I assume clear cache/dalvik?
OTA not out for me yet but asking in advance
yes you can with those files. I have done it :

[Q] latest ote update before root, s off etc

Can anyone advise if I am ok to do this update on my one x before i root, s off etc. My phone is new and I would like to root, run customs roms in the future but i dont wont to update first unless i know its safe to do so. I would normally never update straight away but this one seems important to fix battery etc. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Thanks in advance

You can't S-OFF anyway so you don't need to worry about that. Just get the OTA then root it if you want
i updated to 1.29.401.11 using the ruu. as soon as that had finished i unlocked my bootloader again, flashed cwm recovery and rooted using supersu with no problems.

Cheers man

Purchased unlocked and S-off M8 what's a good way to root ?

As the title says I recently purchased my M8 off swappa and was wondering what's the best root method for T-Mobile
If you are s-off you must be rooted also or am I missing something?
Just go to the tmobile thread and read. Find the general or android development thread and read the thread titles. Everything is there for you.

That's what I thought too but I downloaded root checker and it says I'm not rooted
You just need to flash custom recovery for your device and install superuser binary from it..

rooted means that su is installed in the ROM, usually with some means if managing which programs can elevate privileges.
Unlocked means you can flash unsigned ROMs and recovery.
S-Off means you can flash unsigned firmware, boot, recovery, and ROMs.
Does that help?

What i meant was that in order to achieve s-off you first need to obtain root....unless he rooted, s-offed and then unroot....but of course i can be wrong

Maybe, I don't recall if there was ever a temproot exploit. But when it was sold, it may have been "returned to stock".
