DHD does not have a video out. Connecting the micro USB to a HDMI cable would be a complete waste of time.
DHD can stream to TVs and other devices via DLNA but not connect to them directly.

Agreed.
Another way to directly play media files from your phone is by simply plug in usb cable and choose disk drive option. Its only applicable for tv with usb port and media player capabilities.

If your TV supports DLNA and can be controlled remotely via DLNA, then you can play files from your phone to your TV. If your TV has USB port and can play .3gp files, you can connect your phone via USB in Mass Storage mode and play the files that are on the SD card. If your TV has neither USB or DLNA, then you are out of luck .
If your TV doesnt have dlna or USB, you can buy one of these: http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...ort-your-phone-a/&category=classic&postPage=1 I think its coming out soon.

Wireless video out: possible?

I wonder, is it possible to connect the Note to a TV set without NHL or other wired setups? Is there any kind of dongle one can connect to the TV to receive audio/video by Bluetooth or wifi?

U can, if the TV do have DLNA and just connect it wireless.

Do you want to stream content from the phone or see the phone screen on the TV?
DLNA would cover the 1st option - the built-in Allshare app turns the phone into a DLNA compliant server.
For the 2nd option, you could either use and MHL cable with a wireless HDMI setup or use something Android VNC Server from a PC attached to the TV.
I use imediashare from the market to stream to my apple tv2... works great. Works with an Xbox and lots of other things too.

Allshare works fine. I have connected my PC, LED and phone. Cool thing to show off as well.
Thanks, the latter.I might use one of my Nokia internet tablets to setup vnc and hook it to my TV. Won't be quick enough for gaming and streaming, though.
The wireless hdmi setup requires too many things attached to the Note to be comfortable.

The Allshare works great, running with a Samsung UNC55D8000. Images video crisp clear and very fast sync.
Is there any wireless Mirroring on the horizon?

Allshare works fine between TV and phone, but the PC client has difficulties with shared folders. It keeps delisting my media folders, and now even unable to add any folders at all.
Try Qloud Media Free in the market

Awesome! How cool is that? Am playing movies straight from my phone via the PS3 to the big screen with no cables. Magic.
Much appreciated. I shall now have to tour friends' houses to show off!
Plasma TV without DLNA
Hi guys,
I have a LG Plasma TV without DLNA but with USB ports and HDMI ports.
I know I can connect my Note with the MHL cable but would like to explore the wireless options.
1) If I try to plug a wifi usb stick to the Plasma TV, will it work ?
2) If not, what are the other available options ?
thanks

Unlikely, the USB port on your TV is likely only for connecting a USB memory stick or hard-drive to display photos and possibly videos. If your TV's firmware had support for a wireless USB dongle it would also likely be DLNA compliant.
Hi thanks. I have heard about HDMI (one side) to wireless (the other side) connection for example for HTC (HTC Media Link). Do we have similar things for Samsung Galaxy Note?

Well, there's the HTC Media Link for starters!
However, this only offers DLNA streaming, not full display mirroring.
The HTC Media Link HD does offer display mirroring, but only when partnered with an HTC One X or S.

OK,
So what are the available options for me (owner of the galaxy note and a HDTV without DLNA but with HDMI).
Is it only the MHL cable then ? Any other options to mirror or wirelessly stream ?
I saw an adapter for the Galaxy III which connects to the phone through wifi direct and to the TV set through hdmi cable. It's exactly what I wanted.
Hope out works for the Note, too, when it's available.

If your TV doesn't have dnla, Then get a dnla ready home theater / blue ray player
Those are your only two choices for wireless streaming from your Note to your TV. And it works really well.

Xperia Arc HDMI tricks.

I've recently bought Xperia's HDMI cable. It works fine on TV but I wonder if it's possible to connect it to PC, to Video Cards HDMI, I have one. But when I connect nothing happens. If anyone knows how to use Phone as monitor via HDMI or to view phone on PC monitor via HDMI please help. Thanks in advance
You wanna use your computer as an external screen for your phone(just like tv)? The possible HDMI port in your computer is HDMI-out, and you cannot use it as HDMI-in. You will need some kind of a usb adapter for it.
And if your monitor(you have a desktop pc?) has an HDMI port, it would be an HDMI-in port. Try plugging your phone into your monitor?
it should work probably... don't know if the graphic card or the monitor will be propertly shown on phone due to resolution issues...
Thanks everyone, yea my video has hdmi out only, but i thought i could use it as hdmi in. anyway thanks for help, if u know any 3rd party software to solve my problem, please advice. Thanks for now

[Q] USB audio vs USB HDMI

Could anybody explain what is the difference?
What I've seen on youtube it is possible to connect HTC One X and TV for example and stream it to TV.
Could I use the same cable to connect to external DAC. I guess not because of the issue mentioned here h**p://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?can=2&start=0&num=100&q=&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars&groupby=&sort=-stars&id=24614 however, not sure why HDMI out works, but connecting to external DAC not, both are digital signals, right?
Could somebody explain it, please?

[Q] Does the Fire TV support USB storage/powered USB splitters?

Just a quick question for anyone who already received their Fire TV (Mine will be here Wednesday hopefully)
I see that people have had success in getting everything from mice/keyboards/etc working with their Fire TV, but I'm curious if powered USB hubs and external USB drives work as well.
Ultimately I'd like to have something along the lines of a USB keyboard/mouse as well as an XB360 controller, as well as a USB slot that I can throw some media on if I have a friend over who doesn't want to set up their machine/share on my network and we can still watch something through either XBMC or Plex.

I was able to plug in a USB 3 hub, unpowered, and used a keyboard and mouse at the same time.

Ordered an Ouya that hasn't arrived yet and considering return/refuse.
Does anyone have any information for the future of FTV USB storage?
ie:
Is it not possible with the current hardware?
Is it a feature that is under development and will likely be enabled in the near future?

Most likely not a hardware issue, but the software distributed with the device by Amazon does not support it. I think they want you to use their cloud services instead.
Most likely fixable once Root is available, but currently there is no distributed Root available yet. Most likely will see Root available after the device gets 4.43 updates.
Thanks, the hdd is a must have for Mashup's direct download, instead of using a dvr.
Since I got the Ouya on the cheap, will probably keep it for now.
I see the xbmc wiki says usb storage can be enabled with root.

So, just to confirm, you are using a USB Hub to get all three USB items? Keyboard/mouse, controller AND external storage?
need to get that last part clear..
Nope. Didn't try that. Just the 2.5" usb 500gb external.

I have a simple 4 port unpowered USB 2.0 hub connected to my Fire TV at all times. In that hub is a 64GB NTFS thumb drive at all times that is mounted via StickMount on boot. When I need to, I plug a USB mouse and keyboard into two of the 3 open USB ports on the hub. Everything works with all 3 devices plugged into the hub. I hope that's the info you're looking for.

I don't know if that's disk related, but I have an old LaCia external 2.5" 500Gb HDD. It has a regular USB2 port and an additional 5V in which can be used optionally (if attached to the computer, it works with just the USB).
With the AFTV, I had to use the additional 5V.
A friend of mine is having the same issue with his external HDD, the power from AFTV is not enough
Hi,
I read that Fire TV doesn't support USB storage, but I believe it does although I've not been able to access a drive (plugged in to powered hub) yet. So far using sideloaded es file explorer I can see the USB device and alongside it the drop down button which when clicked seems to unmount the drive. Looking in the dmesg log (familiar to Linux users I'm sure) the kernel loads appropriate USB driver module and the recognises the USB storage the device as /dev/sda with partition sda1. There is also an entry in the list of mount points for /storage/usb, but it seems to point to 'tmp, tmp' which doesn't make much sense to me. It seems to me the only thing missing is automount of the recognised partition, does anyone agree or disagree? Does anyone know a way of mounting on an uprooted device (l'm on the latest update and would prefer not rooting unless unavoidable).
I've been using this one without issue: http://goo.gl/yXFV9o
