When I Launched custom recovery the phone got stuck at the Red Moto Logo screen
Till now tried many things
1) Since I am to access the vanila custom recovery I tried Wipe data/ factory rest.
Result: STuck at moto logo
2) Since boot loader is also accessible Tried to flash SBF through RSD LITE.
Result: After flashing the result is still same. Stuck at Moto Logo
Please help me on this issue as I have gone through the forum and couldn't find any solution
Will this solve my issue or is there any other way
[HOW TO] Debranding /Installing different/recovering bricked firmware on your Defy
can I use the lastest full sbf for recovering as I am from India

Any help here would be appreciated....
go to stock recovery and wipe data and cache..and then flash indian sbf
I can try that but the problem is even though I have wiped data and cleared cache earlier there has been no change.
It is as if the old settings are still there and is not allowing the phone to start.
I think I can only flash with a full SBF right....
I have my nandroid backup. Would that be helpfull anyway.
Thaknks
Just read this thread so I am not sure if I can flash with full Indian SBF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152377
I earlier installed Nordic froyo + CM7 (followed as it is in the guide and FAQ)
tat thread is for leaked gingerbread only! u can downgrade from CM7 i guess..coz kernel is based on froyo nordic 179
wipe everything..including data.partition and all..and then try...should work..report back..
1.wipe data and cache from stock recovery
2.bootloader -> flash full nordic since this one worked for you earlier (make sure the process is finished)
3. enjoy your defy!
edit: yes, arpith.fbi is right, CM7 uses froyo kernel so no problem at "downgrade".
My doubt is will I should make sure it works this time otherwise I may even loose the boot loader and recovery if I screw up anything.
How will flashing a new Full Indian froyo sbf (Planning to flash the OFFICIAL RE-RELEASE! 3.4.3-36-1.7 ) work since I have many times tried clearing cache, data and partition and still it does not go past the boot screen.
Yes..Flashed with full Indian SBF successfully and then proceeded to MIUI and installed the Beta 1.7.8 version which seems stable as of now.
Thanks for every one who chipped in
Just a suggestion:
Install Zeam Launcher....it moves incredible fast with MIUI
Sure, Thanks. I will give it a try.
I am first trying to get hold of the stock launcher. Even it is beautifull.
Maybe you didn't set the default bootmode to 2nd init.
Go to 2ndinit bootmenu and set default bootmode to 2nd init

I tryed installing cm7 on my Defy (mb25 telstra version)
I followed the guide, flashed it with the Official Froyo Korean v3.4.2-74 fixed SBF and then went into clockwork mod and installed cyogenmod.
Couldn't get it load up so i flashed back to the original stock firmware(eclair)
Now it loads into android but just becomes unresponsive.
Same thing happens when i try other stock sbf's aswell
Any ideas?
OK MANAGED TO SCROLL THROUGH TO FACTORY DATA RESET AND NOW IT WORKS
Install nordic 1 or 2 nandriod and then flash cm7 onto it
hello
moto defy is my first android device.
i installed the latest 2.3.4 GB on it using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14925851&postcount=72
It was nice and was working well. but i had to go back to froyo and so, i installed system recovery again on Gingerbread. then i tried to boot through it, but it wouldn't boot to the recovery screen. so i tried to wipe data and cache using the moto recovery. then using the rsd lite tool, i flashed the fixed sbf. then im not able to get into the phone now.
it asks for motoblur setup and when i skip it, it says, The application Accounts(process com.motorola.setup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
with a Force close button. when i force close, motoblur setup first page comes again.
I even tried to register for a new motoblur account, but no luck it goes to the end and stops. i registered new account on pc and used it on the phone. it goes updating and again the error pops up.
I tired many things like starting from scratch. wiping all data + cache, but no luck. Please help me.
If you flash a fixed SBF you have to replace the filesystem with a nandroid backup.
since you couldn't reach clockwork recovery you should have now a froyo fixed SBF with a file system from ginger... that doesn't work.
You now have the two options to try...
- flash ginger sbf again (clear cache, davlik, factory reset etc. first) trie to boot the ginger-system. After that find a clockwork recovery or 2ndInit for Ginger.
- flash a whole stock rom (full SBF) with RSD-Lite ... if anything has been replaced with original files it should be back...
i tried ginger sbf, the shadow4.5.1-134fixed.sbf. no luck. same thing.
tried downloading again and flashed, still same.
for option 2, if i do so, i would loose downgradability to froyo right? could you just provide me a link for the full sbf? i dont want to do something stupid again. sorry.
If i flash froyo full sbf, will it work?
Edit:
YAY!! i downloaded full sbf and flashed using rsd lite. now im on stock froyo. pheew!!
just in case anyone needs the froyo without blur i.e UAE for dowload: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14682923&postcount=1
Just wipe all then reboot, get to bootloader by using vol up+power, flash using rsdlite and again wipe all and reboot.
Howdy!
I am in the UK on Vodafone, and was running CM7. This was installed over the UK Froyo update supplied via the Motorola Update tool.
All was well, until my phone randomly went off. When I turned it on there was nothing but fleeting glimpses of the CM7 loading screen (as if the screen was flickering on and off).
The only way that I could get the phone working again was to follow this procedure found in Zephyrot's Defy Beginner's Guide:
Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom: aha! We have a issue here!, latest Stock Gingerbread full SBFs comes with a Version 5 of the CG, meaning until not long ago you were pretty much screwed. But wait, there is hope! A one kind Éclair has been found in China Defys that comes with Version 5 CG!.
How to fix it:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backup
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot.
You WONT be able to install full SBFs of any Éclair or Froyo since these Androids have lower CG Versions.
This leaves me with a working version of Froyo. I did not install a full Gingerbread.sbf previously, and the backup that I made before installing CM7 leaves me without anything happening also.
What I would like to know is how to get back on to CM7 if possible? If I try and flash any .sbf the phone goes dead and I have to start again with the process above. If I install 2nd Init/clockworkmod on the Froyo that I can get to work as a result of the above process the phone goes into a boot loop and I can't get into stock recovery or anything, so end up having to go back through the process again. Does anyone have any ideas, or am I stuck forever now?
Edit - just finished restoring it for the 50th time and wanted to add that the version that I can get to work is
Moto_Version34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE
Firmware Version: 2.2.2
Build Number JOREM_U3_3.4.2_179-2
You need to go into stock recovery (power + down I think) next press both volume keys. Wipe cache and data. Next reboot into motorola flash tools and install a fixed sbf of a froyo ROM. Next install CM7 if you want. You can find/make the fixed sbf in the beginners guide.
If you install CM first wipe everything in custom recovery.

I've done that and no luck, sometimes the phone has booted up and frozen on the red M, other times it has been totally unresponsive. The only Froyo ROM that I can get to respond is the fixed one linked in the guide, which won't let me install custom recovery. I'll try again with some different fixed ROMS tonight. Thanks
when does this happen? When you install froyo or CM7

It seems like you can't downgrade that easy. The fixed sbf removes the system files. You need to install a nand backup first. But you can't install cwm to install a nand without root access. Check the page of the ginger you installed. I think it can by now. Also check CM7 page as a member seemed to can use stock recovery.

I'll do some more searching when I get to my laptop with everything on. Essentially the only version of Froyo that I can install won't let me run CWM (it installs with no problems, I can root the phone without any issues). It just gets stuck in a boot loop as soon as I try to restart the phone. I can't get into stock or custom recovery at this point to wipe data/cache.
I tried with a nand backup and fixed sbf, but will try some different combinations. I still have my initial nand backup from before I started flashing anything. I'll do some more rooting around later on. I suppose I have a working phone for now, just not how I would like it!
Thanks
So i installed CM 7.1 i think from rom manager but it wouldn't go past the boot logo with the skating droid. so i took battery out and went to recovery mode and i think i accidentally restored one of my Motorola Droid data and now my phone wont go past the Google CM boot logo i think I'm screwed any suggestions? please help. i guess I'm a noob and sorry if there was something similar to this posted already i just can't find the answer to my problem thank you.

us - Tmobile
rooted with gingerbreak
2nd init boot-loader
was running perfect until i accidentally restore the wrong data
oh and yes I've tried data wipe not working
Do you happen to have a nandroid backup of your stock rom you've had before ?
A nandroid backup is what you should have created using CWM recovery. Just restore it with CWM.
You don't have a nandroid backup ?
Flash the full SBF of your original stock rom (the one you had before flashing cm7). This should be a 2.2 Froyo whatever rom. Connect defy to pc, open rsd lite, start the phone and enter the bootloader and flash the sbf using rsd lite.
Have you installed Froyo (2.2) before going to Cm7? If not (you still had Eclair 2.1) then this is the problem.
However, get 2.2 on that phone and flash cm7 again following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054447
Instructions for some of these steps can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Also, be patient! When the phone boots for the first time after a flash that may take a while!
Try wiping data cache partition and Dalvik cache from the custom recovery..

hello sir,
i am facing the same problem with my defy. want to know have you got any solution to that. i am having nandroid backup of my froyo rom. but how to install it with CWR when the phone is not even go beyond bootscreen. i am not much familiar with android. its my first android cell. please help me sir.
waiting for ur reply
are u getting any errors while booting up?
Hi. All was working well when I was running Quarx's version of CM10 on my Green Lens Defy. I could update to each new update CM10 ROM by clearing the data and cache then flashing the ROM and GApps. After that, I wiped the dalvik cache and reboot. Note my Defy is using a Froyo kernel.
Then I decided to try out Codename Android JB Beta and I did what I normally did with the ROM and then GApps. I ended up stuck in a bootloop. No problem I thought. I'd just reflash Quarx's own version of CM10 after wiping data and cache. I got stuck in a bootloop again. Odd. I tried it with older versions of Quarx's CM10 and they result in me getting stuck in a bootloop as well. So I flashed the US T-Mobile SPF for the Defy using RSD Lite then I logged in to BLur and such as that is needed to access the homescreen where I then turned on USB debugging. I then plugged in my phone into my computer to use SuperOneClick Root to root my device. It said my device was already rooted though I don't think that should happen since I flashed a stock 2.1 SPF. Well I rebooted and installed the 2ndinit apk then installed 2ndinit using the app. I think it said that 2ndinit was already installed. But if my memory is wrong in this case, I then installed 2ndinit and rebooted my Defy but I never got a blue LED.
Then I did the same steps as I did previously over and over again with variations to try to get it to work.
Can someone help?
I caution anyone who may attempt to install Codename Android JB Beta from CM10.
On another matter, downloading an OTA update then rebooting when pressing "install now" brings me to the triangle with exclamation screen and gets stuck there.
Have you done a fullwhipe in the Motorola Recovery before flashing the SBF??(usually you would get a bootloop without fullwhiping but maybe the solution is that easy )
And why did you flash a 2.1 SBF you should maybe try some other SBFs like the Froyo SBFs for your Country

Oh a full wipe in stokc recovery is needed? I'll try it.
Can you suggest a good SBF for a US Green Lens Defy if you know any?
Is it fine if I use the 3.4.2-179 CEE Deblur SBF as recommended by Quarz for a base then root, install 2ndinit. and flash CM10 from Clockwork Mod Recovery?

Yep fine for using that one but you should definitely check out the begginers guide for sbf rooting ect as you've been having trouble with this for the last few days now and I'd really like to see get this sorted once and for all
Sent from my MB525 using xda app-developers app
after you instaled 2ndinit
