Don't the CMs come with the Sprint hotspot already hacked and ready to use?

Try Barnacle Tether. It's free in the market.
From my experience, Wireless Tether only really works well with Sense roms and Barnacle only really works well with AOSP. I usually keep both just in case.
Also, if you want to, try uninstalling and re-installing Wireless Tether. This will force the program to re-config itself for use on that particular software. Could help, I don't know.
Okay thanks ill try that

You can use the native hotspot. if you use the wireless tether it says error, and you just need to reboot to fix it, don't use wireless tether; barnacle is okay though.
Just tried that (unloading Wireless tether and reverting to the 2.0.5 pre8 version and still get the following errors - all 'failed":
Activating WIFI interface
Setting ad hoc mode
setting essid
setting channel
I am using RC 7 (final)
the native app doesn't work either - didn't try barnacle yet
Thanks
Same thing happened to me a while ago

Did you reboot and try built in like roxxorz said? Wireless tether is not going to work at all.

I rebooted and the native ap now works
I also downloaded Barnacle and that works as well (with a mention on the upgrade notes about an EVO patch)
thanks
I've tried installing two different wireless tethers and neither one wants to work. I'm rooted with stock rom. Any ideas/suggestions?

You sure its not working?? Its a adhoc connection and most tablets wont pick that up. My desktop sometimes wont either but to fix that i have to switch my wifi on the desktop off and on then it sees the connection

which rom are you using? i had that problem before when i was trying wifi tether hack apps but i download a rom that actually had the hotspot hack which allow to use the sprint hotspot and that worked like a charm.
i also suggest you to try using ( Hotspot hack ) posting on the development section.
i hope that helped
Thanks guys. I'm using stock rom. When I had my evo, it worked like a charm.

I am having the same kind of problem; wifi tether does not work. I was on rooted stock rom, then Calkulin 1.5a. On the client side, I tried Ubuntu 11.10, Window XP, both detected the ad-hoc device, but just could not establish connection. I am using the hotspot hack, which work without issue.
I'm on add ROM with sprint hot spot and it works perfectly.

Thre developer is aware and hopefully going to fix this for our phone.

" Infrastructure mode, unlike ad-hoc mode, allows multiple devices and devices that don't support ad-hoc mode to connect to the Wi-Fi access point spawned by the app, so it's definitely something we want. I've also asked about getting infrastructure mode on the*Epic Touch 4G, which uses a newer Broadcom chipset, to which Harald replied "we will see." Fingers crossed here."

I use wireless tether from the market and works great. I know on a past phone I had to create a folder on my SD card called android.tether with a bin file in it. I don't know if that is why mine works or not.

Has anyone been able to get the wireless tether for root users app to work with aosp? The stock tethering *works,* but has very limited functionality. I emailed the dev and he told me to try the latest version, available here. http://tinyurl.com/bj9lyv
This has a lot of new features including a profile for our device, but it still doesn't work for me.
Has anyone had any luck with this?

Ah sweet I'll try that out, is supersonic nightly a sense rom? Or was he just sharing which aosp flavor he uses?

what aosp are u using, i have all of them in the link in my sig and all the kernels. if you dl a wireless tether app on an aosp with built in free wifi tether then you will mess up the built in wifi tether and the app will not work or the built in will slow down. you would have to wipe everything and reflash it again. then try the built in wifi tether and it should work perfect. if you have any questions feel free to ask them in the link in my sig
The built in works, it just doesn't have the functionality of the wireless tether app. I really would like to have it working .. I haven't tried the above method actually, sorry haven't had time

Hey anyone knows how to tether on Clean GB MTD ??
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Try the Wireless Tether for Rooted Devices, the apk can be found here.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Should work on first go, you may need to try older versions of it since I don't use the latest version and don't know if its compatible. Good Luck!
If that one doesn't work use this one >http://db.tt/Q6n9nOge after you start the app but before you start the tethering you will need to go into settings and change the first setting to epic 4g and the second setting to softap... I use this on every rom that I run and it has never failed me!

I am pretty sure that CleanGB has the hacked Sprint Hotspot app (renamed to Wireless Hotspot). I know the BML version does. Just use that. To me, it seems more stable than WiFi-Tether.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You can use the hacked hotspot or use the wireless tether for root users. I use the Beta 8, beta 9 and up gives problems.

Is there a way to do wireless tether with stock 4.0.4 ICS? I am on prepaid, and when I use the stock WiFi tether app, it just allows me to go to Tmo's website.
If I try "Wireless Tether" app, or Barnacle, both fail
Give Clockwork mod tether a try

I'd recommend rooting and using WiFi tether for root users.
But if you like not being rooted (no idea why ) then try foxfi
