[q] CM7 upgades? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Having never used CM7, I'm not totally sure how the builds work. If I want to use the nightlies, or flash the next beta when it is released, do i need to wipe the phone each time? I'm hoping it's like roms i've used in the past on my fascinate that required at most clearing the dalvik.

It's answered on the last page of the cm7 nightlys thread.

no wipe
for the nightly and rc%, each build can replace the old with no wiping or data loss.

Upgrading cm7

Okay, so I'm on 19 and I would like to upgrade to the latest cm7. Is it different than flashing like a new rom or what?
Sent from that one Guy.
Nope, place on sdcard, and since you're upgrading, you can just flash, don't have to wipe.
Should I nandroid? Or is that a silly question?
Sent from that one Guy.
I'm still on 19 too, tried 21 & it gave me tons of problems. I just haven't got around to flashing anything else thanks to zero free time.
As long as you're just flashing another nightly, you can wipe cache & dalvik cache, then flash. No need to wipe data. I would, of course, do a backup first, but that's just my preference.

I would implore you to go to the latest nightly-28. Just flashed it and no problems...I haven't had any problems since...a long time ago in a land far away...
Hmm I'm having a few issues but cm7 is an unstable rom so I understand. What you think about 23?
Sent from that one Guy.
Holy crap 28 already?!
Sent from that one Guy.
Yup, 23...personally never had issues with GPS, but no issues at all here.
Since you're coming from a ways back, I'd recommend flashing the 20110307 GApps to make sure you're updated.
So quick run-down:
1) Download the latest nightly, and the 20110307 GApps. Place both on your SD card.
2) Reboot into recovery, take a Nandroid backup.
3) Wipe cache and dalvik (just to be safe since there's been some kernel upgrades).
4) Flash the nightly, then the GApps.
5) Boot, and enjoy!
I'm over here talking about 23 and you're all the way on 28 hahahah wow. I'm on 28 now too but damn cyanogen moves fast. I didn't see any significant changes so far. Maybe I need to pony up and flash a kernal.

Yea...27 and 28 came out today...I just flashed 26 yesterday. Also, I recommend the Tiamat kernel, if you do flash one.
Okay I went to look for the kernal and I couldn't find it in the cyanogen thread and could not locate it.

Tiamat kernel link.
Lol search is broken. And I'm about to flash it right now.
Sent from that one Guy.
Lol...do enjoy it now.
So far the kernal is decent. The non SBC one gave me white screen every time but I was able to get to recovery and use SBC one. Cool thing I downloaded both at the same time.

Ah, well not all kernels play nicely, but glad you got to use it. Though do be aware of the sbc usage effects.
Oh, yes I heard about the whole setting on fire ordeal. It had me worried before but not now. I had left my phone at the house yesterday while I went to work. I was hoping it wouldn't set my pillow on fire but as long as it's 5 hours or less I'm good.

Well it won't happen immediately, just it poses long term damage.

[Q] Concerning KingsROM Ultra BeatDown GB-R4

I am currently running EvoKings GB RC3 and loving it. But since I can't leave well enough alone, I want to update to the RC4.
I just have a couple of questions concerning this ROM.... I see where he mentions its based on CM7... is it based on CM7 7.0.0.0 or CM 7 7.0.2.1?
Also will I need to do the GPS fix again and update PRL, as I assume I have to wipe dalvik/cache to update from RC3 to RC4 (as it seems its more than just an update)?
Speaking of the GPS fix, when I did it, I was on RC3 of the EvoKings GB rom, and this is the steps I followed:
Booted into recovery
Made a Nandroid backup
Wiped All Data
Flashed into a backup sense rom I have (Mikfroyo 4.6)
Performed GPS fix and updated PRL
Booted back into recovery
Performed Nandroid restore (no data wipe)
Back into RC3
Was that correct... that I dont do a data wipe and just do a nandroid restore? I have been reading so many conflicting reports on this. My assumtion was to always wipe data before doing a restore.
Thanks everyone.
First of all, if you're updating a current rom, them all you should have to do is wipe cache & dalvik and then flash the updated rom. As for not wiping data, no, it isn't necessary, however, I'm one of the people who do especially if I'm changing roms. I don't want any remnants of the previous rom.

Ok cool, thanks. When doing the GPS fix, is the info stored somewhere else, which is why it doesnt get removed when doing a wipe of stuff?
Trying to figure that out... since yeah I am worried about having some type of conflict when switching from a sense to an AOSP rom. I havent had any issues so far with RC3 doing that, minus some issues with the screen not coming on with a button press while playing music.. but not sure if thats just something with the ROM itself or the GPS fix.
I am not sure where the gps fix is stored, but there should be no conflicts. I have switched between AOSP and Sense tons many times since I did the fix and have never had any problems.

+1.....I've never had to apply a GPS fix and I, too, have switched between AOSP and Sense numerous times. As a matter of fact, my current rom is Salvage-Mod and the GPS works as it should and I still didn't have to apply a fix.

I had to do the gps fix when I first switched to cm7 rc2. Since then I have never had to redo it nor have I had any issues.

What build of CM 7 is this rom built off of?

So, is this it?

Are the current ICS ROMS the "ICS Ports" we were all so desperately hoping for before ICS actually came out? Or are we expecting the "OFFICIAL" one from some other party?
Will CM9 be the official ICS port? Are we even getting CM9?
Side question:
If I am on ILWT and flashing to ICS, of course it is best to wipe.
But if I am on ICS and want to restore to ILWT, do I also wipe?
Thx in advance for putting up with my annoyance!

First one: Yes.
Second one: Of course!
I will wait for official CM9 with (hopefully) camera support.
We will see an official CM9 release, I'm pretty positive.

i do wipe when i flash a new rom but when i restore(via clockworkmod) i dont wipe anything and so restore always works without problems..
if you're doing a cwm restore, you dont need to wipe. restoring pretty much wipes all the information and overlays the older stuff.
on the other hand, it's always good to clear out cache though.

And regular probably, neither will ever cause problems if you do wipe but might if you don't. Only side effect ever of wiping both is longer boot right after
First of all we will get a CM9 update (WITH CAMERA SUPPORT) and two you can restore any backed uo rom through clockworkmod recovery without wiping (it basically wipes and overrites the current rom to ur backup rom)

I just have to add that building a rom from source is the same thing companies like HTC are doing. Granted they have access to all of the proprietary hardware the public doesn't. That being said none are more "official" then any other. I love CM but they are by no means an official rom and all other are ports. Its true that MANY roms are based off CM, but not all.

Saw a developer guessing the CM guys would be able to release CM9 for Desire Z (hopefully with camera working) in february. No official statements about this, though.

[Q] Upgrading to CM9 Alpha 5

I am on cm9 alpha 4 and i want to upgrade to alpha 5. I flash into cwm, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash like always. Correct?
Read the install instructions on cm9 epic.blogspot... the developers say do not wipe anything if just updating between alpha versions... just flash alpha 5 and newest gapps version
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
There is some conflicting advice on the CM9 pages. Bottom line, it doesn't hurt to wipe cache and dalvik, I always do, but developers say it is not necessary when upgrading from one alpha to the next.
Happy Flashing!
i've gone both ways between many of the alphas, and never had an issue with no wipe updates, or wiping the caches..

Just like everyone suggested...no need for wiping anything. Just a flash to 5 will do just fine.
No need to wipe between Alphas but the CM Devs have also stated that wiping all data does get rid of factors such as apps force-closing (if any) its your personal preference. The world won't end if you don't wipe, I personally do.

I've done around 15+ updates between nightlies on CM7 and between alphas on CM9 without wiping any data and never had any problems for what its worth. Part of the beauty of the CM platform IMO.

[Q] Need help flashing a new rom

I've got my evo rooted, or at least I'm pretty sure I do.
It's currently on 2.3.3, with an H-boot version of 6.16.1002, the software version is 4.24.651.1, and CWM revolutionary 4.0.1.4.
I'm looking to flash a new rom that is very well functioning. I'm just wondering if I've got everything done right so far, and if there is an official version of Cyanogen out (I'm leery about nightlies), and how well it works. The only other rom I've seen that I'm really interested in is this
So have I got everything rooted properly, before I flash are there any thing I need to avoid, and precautions I need to take?

Cyanogenmod has stable releases at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=supersonic&type=RC
I would always do a backup in recovery just in case...other than that you should be good to go.
Thanks, I found the latest stable release.
I've done my fair share of flashing on my Droid X, but just to make sure I don't wake up to bootloops for breakfast, what are the recommended install instructions for CM?
Also, does CM include a custom kernel, and do you recommend the latest stable, or the latest RC?
Wipe data 3x
Wipe cache 3x
Wipe dalvik 3x
Flash CM
Flash gapps?
(I don't remember if you need to flash gapps with CM)
Not sure if doing each 3x is really needed but that is how I was taught and have never had issues thus far, unless it was a specific rom related issue.
As for kernel since CM is AOSP, I would say it is custom since you can not use a sense kernel on an AOSP rom.
Hope this helps!

If you are on stock sense...factory reset
So don't wipe the system, but wipe the data. (factory reset)
Does anyone know if I need gapps, and which one I'd need?
Also, should I use the latest RC, or the latest stable?

I've run into a very odd roadblock...
TiBu keeps freezing before i can even do anything. I've tried reinstalling, using an older version, and fixing permissions, and its still happening the moment I touch the screen.
This isn't too big of a problem as long as I can restore all my apps (including the numerous ones on the sd card) through my CWR backup... is this possible?
I think a lot of my issues I've been having are because I took an OTA update after rooting...
Ummm, yea. The 2 do not mix. Either keep it rooted and no OTAs, or keep it stock with OTA updates (if you choose them).
