I was being told that if I downloaded the official GB for the Dinc2 then S-off wouldn't work. Is that true? Will there be an S-off version of GB by the AlphaRev X team?

Please please please look at all the threads already in existence discussing this. They are numerous. The question has been answered a lot. There is even a sticky thread with this discussion that has been there for at least a month.
I'm normally not one to straight off point at the search function or to tell someone to look at existing threads (this is only my second time in the I2 forums), but please don't ask questions that are already answered several times over and over. It clutters the forums.

I have read bits and pieces about what can/can't be flashed with just goldcard and the original SPL but am still a bit confused. Could someone please explain what is possible and what is not? For example, I have heard that you can't downgrade versions but obviously that is too broad a statement as some of the results people have posted in regards to the HK and EU ROMs suggest otherwise.
Unless I'm blind or mistaken, there's nothing much goldcard related in the wiki.
Edit: Moved from the development forum? ....okay
I posted this in the 'Desire Android Development' forum and it got moved to 'Desire General' and subsequently buried.
Can anyone answer this question??

due to there is no official 2.2 from htc you must flash a cooked rom. Within the cooked rom you'll find the flashing procedure.
Thanks but what is cooked rom
First thread, sticky in this section; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 explains it all, you even have video-tutorials

I do agree that you really should read at least some information in the sticky threads before asking such a basic question, but i took the time below anyway, but afterwards please let those sticky's answer your questions
A cooked ROM is either a freshly compiled version of android, or a port. Then there are numerous advantages and addons, the common one is that you always have root-acces, basically "administrative" access to things that stock-roms try to keep you away from.
Cooked roms was especially great some time ago, when android didn't provide tethering support (internet sharing), paid apps was more limited, hardware on phones was more restricted and with cooked roms you could overclock the cpu, move applications to your sdcard and have a linux-kernel that left you with more available RAM.
Then there's often other hacks and cooked roms are almost always faster than stock-roms.
The only disadvantages is that by messing with these kinda things you void your garantuie. Most of the time, rooting is safe and tested before published, but if youre flashing a newe radio-version or spl (a separate part, not the actual ROM) there is a risk for "brick" leaving your phone unusable in some case.
That said, if you experience some kind of hardware issue that you know isnt related to the ROM, you can "unroot" your device, basically put back the original rom so that it doesnt appear modified at the repair center.
Desire is very easy to root, a simple script you run on your computer updates your stock rom with a rooted one, leaving your settings and all as it was, but with root acces and the posibility so change rom if you like
I would suggest, respectfully, that if the OP does not know what a cooked rom is, or that there is no official 2.2 as of yet, that perhaps trying to root may not be something they do until they've read up on it a lot more.

Hello everybody
i have installed the offical RUU... but i am not happy with it, no new functions which can be helpful.
Throw the update, everything is stock - apps, settings, NO root.
Has anyone a method to get S-OFF back?
please keep me informed.
Thanks 4 you replies!
Your best bet is Revolutionary.
Those guys of Alpharev & Unrevoked have teamed up and are working on a tool to root your phone.
Unfortunately the new HBOOT of our Desire, isn't supported yet.
Check this page every once in a while: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Hope this helps

Is it possible to root an official rom by HTC (2.3.3) developed as RUU?
After upgrade I used UnRevoked 3.2.2 and it doesn't work. I think that the problem is with HBOOT 1.02.0001. Downgrading to official ROM 2.2 (RUU) doesn't work, so it's impossible to root my phone in the same way as i did it before (on Froyo).
You are the 10th user asking this.
If you flashed the RUU - then NO, not yet.
I see than im not the only one with this problem.
To Administrators - please remove this thread
Yo mods, can we please get a merge of all topics related to this one and then sticky it please.
It should be stick 'cause a lot of people have been ”afected” by this hboot update.
Including me T_T
Stop posting these threads........

Hi,
I'm trying to install the new Android HD 11.1 on my VZW HTC ONE M8, but wifi isn't working.
There's a post on the development forum relating to repacking the AHD.zip with older verizon kernel modules, but since I've posted less than ten posts elsewhere, I'm not allowed to reply in the thread.
Is anyone else trying to install this ROM on their VZW M8?

Why not pm the dev or any user there who can help you ?
You have to use the new boot.img from the Ota because the one on the rom is the old one and I can say once you do that it should work
And you have to post questions in the Q&A section, that's what it's made for !
Edit :
Fixed....thread = moved

I don't know, I've seen a lot of devs with signatures that state "Don't PM me asking for solutions..." Generally they stick to a simple "If you PM me with a problem then others won't see the solution to it either". So it needs to be discussed in forums... Understandable perhaps, if it's in the forums others could help as well and they won't have thousands of PMs with the same ridiculous questions.

Maybe make a thread in the Verizon Q&A section asking for help? You can then perhaps just give a shout out to the developer in question and maybe he'll head over there to read and help out. @dangerweenie << @ whatever the developers name is.
They don't really want a lot of questions and troubleshooting related problems to be discussed in the developer sections, that's what the Q&A sections are for. Those forums are strictly for discussing developer related issues.
