[Q] Charging problems (Software, not hardware) - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Im just recently flashed HoneyMIUI 2.3. The very 1st thing Ive noticed is the great battery lifespan but then the worst happened - recharging time also increased.
Im a keen user who is always check my battery usage and drain, in term of monitoring the device current usage and normal daily usage. The recharge current dropped from 600mAh++ to 300-400mAh which my charging time also increase from 3 ¼ hour to 4 ¾ hours.
Is it related to the ROM? Or simply hardware problem? (Ive already tested with other charger, also the same)

Battery life-desire 88% display!

Hey guys how is everyone? Just a quick one...
In the past 12 months I've had my desire I'm shocked at how short my fone battery lasts. I can barely get 8 hours off the phone without a recharge. The phone sometimes switches off as soon as it gets to 15%. I've tried to calibrate the battery, wiping battery stats but all to no avail. Just this morning I've had the phone on for 1hour 10mins. From a full overnight charge its already at 64%. Battery use always shows the display to be using atleast 70%! I'm on the old amoled desires. Anything I can do peeps? Cheers
What's the total time of battery?

NB. Currently using android oxygen 2.3.3. Noticed no difference in any of the default htc roms I've used.
Been on 1hr 20mins and its shed 40%. I can try and take a screenshot for you guys

That sounds about normal to me, it sucks, get used to it or use your phone less. sorry.
Also forgot to mention screen brightness generally between 30-50%. Cheers folks

You probably messed up your battery with all that "calibrating". Unless your standby usage is significantly more than 10mA there isn't much you can do.
I had the same problem with oxygen. My fix was to unpartition my SD card. So no ap2sd. I use the hboot for different. I easily get 24 hrs with heavy data and video use.
May need a fresh install.

[Q] Mobile discharging without use, is this normal?

During the night my phone over a period of 6 hours, lost 3% without using any battery, with wifi, gps, data synchronization and automatic everything off. This autonomy is normal? For other devices I had, like the Galaxy and S remained the same with no loss of load in the same situation.
I'm using the rom CoreDroid 6.6, kernel 3.1.2 and Lee 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2 Radio.
I thank you all.
It's normal, as long as the phone is is on you will lose some charge. Only 3% might be considered quite good actually.

If I change rom or kernel I get improvements?
As I said, 3% is quite good so there's not much room for improvement. The phone can't be on without using any power.

I understand, but as informed, on other devices, I have not had any loss at night, as was the case with Samsung S Galaxy, and got change for this new rom in your case and discharge the battery of your device in the same situation?
Well the SGS is a different phone. The DHD is a more powerful phone and thus uses more battery. The battery capacity isn't the greatest either (1230mAh) and thus it will lose charge faster. 3% drop in 6 hours is nothing to worry about.
Hawks556 Okay, thank you for the information, I'm certainly more relaxed in knowing that this is normal, anyway I will test other rom and kernel and then post the results here.
Allright, but remember to calibrate the battery everytime you flash a new rom and let the rom/kernel settle for a couple of complete battery cycles before comparing.

[Q] high battery drain on ARHD 6.1.0

hi all, i am experiencing ridiculous battery drain on my desire hd. usually last about 10hrs with little to moderate use, have tried battery calibration but did not make any difference? i quite often see battery drain of 100 - 300 mah but do not know what is using that power.
Any other known fixes?
Am going to do a clean flash of 6.1.1 over weekend to see if this helps...

yep... when i was on ARHD 5.2 with the older radio i never had this problem.
i have noticed the battery drain on standby quite often. i have sent just a few text messages and read a few e-mails today and battery already down to 47% after just 8 hours, which is only because i refrained from using it too much...
i'll tried the calibratiojn by damo but charged while the phone was switched on... will try this again like you said,
thanks

Excessive Battery Drain

My Desire Z has been a battery killer recently. I have tried different radios and roms and it still sucks excessive power. Even on Airplane mode battery monitor widget was giving ~50mah per hour drain with the screen off.
I have both a stock battery and a Mugen 1800ma battery and this seems excessive. I checked and there were no applications keeping the phone awake either. At work with minimal usage my phone easily drains over 30% of the Mugen battery. Signal isn't a problem either because I work 280 metres away from a Bell cell tower and have full signal at work all the time. I'm starting to think that something is wrong with my phone.

I had a similar problem with a stock battery of mine and ended up recalling it with my phone provider and they shipped me a new one. They (T-Mobile) said "not all batteries were created equal" and that sometimes even without water-damage, certain batteries lose their shelf-life much faster than others.
Since you're telling us that both your stock and your after-market are draining at a near equal pace regardless, this might be an indicator that it isn't your battery.
I had to return my original G2 to T-Mobile because of hardware malfunctioning in several areas, namely the audio mechanisms. If you're using a relatively new phone, and/or a refurbished phone, I wouldn't be surprised if you are experiencing similar problems.
Omg, recently, mines been really bad too. Trying to get to the bottom of it.

I'm starting to suspect a hardware problem on mine. I don't overclock at all. I've tried different roms, kernels and radios and it hasn't helped...

I had fast battery drain too, I switched to the ROM in this thread, and battery life is now AMAZING
use SuperWipeG2(+) and Guhl's EFS GPS fix available here before flashing G-lite
Have you tried calibrating? Charging to full, wiping batt stats, discharging/charging back to full uninterrupted? The link below is a great calibration tool.... very convenient. I wipe stats after every ROM flash and keep an eye on CPU/RAM usage with Watchdog lite. Battery life is always good.

how long does the battery last for aprox in standby and with regular use. if it dies faster then 3days on standby or less then a day with regular use there may be an issue im just wanting to know the time span of your battery....
also i had hardware issues with the g2 too. my radio sucked balls, i couldnt even keep signal in a call longer then 3 seconds and my wifi would just cut out for periods of hours at a time... im wondering if the manufacturing is becoming sloppy and they might be lacking quality control. i admit there is a lot to the phone but simple things like battery quality and signal quality should be checked regularly.
with the g2 i frequently hear things like this, battery, screen failures or behind the screen cracks, unresponsive touch screen and black spots, bad radio signals, color leakage and most commonly issues with the keyboard.

Well if battery monitor widget is correct my phone would last 26 hours in airplane mode (36 with my mugen battery) with the screen off (I tested this with almost every user app uninstalled)
Edit:
Considering there was a guy who left his old Hero with CM7 in airplane mode and that it lasted for 30 days before the battery died... I find this quite discouraging

Wow. Battery monitor widget is INCREDIBLY innacurate while in airplane mode. I left my phone in it for a good 10 hours and it was still at 100%
Disregard this post... and thread

[Q] 10 Percent Battery Drain in 10 Minutes

Hello everyone,
i have a problem i have not really heard of.
In Standby, i can get quite a good performance of say 1% per hour.
When i'm actually using the phone however, the battery life is just terrible.
I just opened google Maps for 5 Minutes (lowest brightness, no wifi, no gps) and my battery went from 11 to 1 percent.
Same thing yesterday. I was playing falling fred for 5-10 Minutes and the battery went from 100% down to 88%
I'm using ARHD 6.3.1.
I also just noticed, that my Dialer used 30% battery, even though i only made 3 calls.
Anyone have any Ideas?
Well its normal to have battery drain while screen is on....but still try calibrating ur battery.....
And give a try with klquicksall v12 kernel.....

There are some good posts around on how to figure out what's causing unusual battery drain. Here are two:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16808932
Basically, you probably have an app that it using excessive amounts of CPU and using power. The trick is to find out which one. Apart from the tips in the two threads linked above, you could try an app like Watchdog Lite to find out what it is.
Did you flash the new radio after flashing 6.3.1? I got the same problem but then flashed the newer radio and the Problem was gone
