How to OC on a rom without an OC kernal? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So I have a rooted DInc2, and I am running the GB with sense 3.0 rom, but I hate how it lags sometimes when unlocking the device or after closing an app. Is there any way to overclock when using this rom, or do I need to wait for an OC kernal? I have tried various overclocking apps, but they give me a max of only 1GHz which makes no difference. Can anyone help me?

You need an OC kernel - no way to do it in the rom

I guess I will be using CM7 for a while then.

Can I Overclock using Terminal Emulator?

I am having a hard time overclocking I have used a few different apps such as Set CPU for root and Overclock widget still however, no dice. I am at the 1 Ghz max limit and I'd Like to see 1.2 - 1.3 Ghz. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (Froyo 2.2.1 DK28 Rooted: Nebula ROM)Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, you need a kernel that supports overclocking, then an app like setcpu or overlook widget to set the CPU clock speed
Thanks man, By any chance do you know of any DK28 Kernels I found a kernel supporting overclocking past 1Ghz but it wasn't CWM3 compatible and it was a DI18 Kernel.

The source has yet to drop for froyo. Hence the lack of available kernels for froyo. You cannot overclock froyo on the epic just yet. Someone correct me if I am wrong

If you want overclock you gota go back to di18 because no kernals for froyo can be overclocked yet..

Genocide if you're on dk28, twilight zone if you're on eb13. There are now a few kernels, with the release of the source.

Overclocking widget needed?

Is an overclocking widget needed for SkyRaider 4.0?
feedback anyone?
Needed? No. You can use setCPU if you want. Make sure you're using an overclockable kernel, I'm not sure if skyraiders stock kernel is.

Skyraider doesn't use an overclocking kernel. Chad's sense kernel is what I typically use. You can overclock to 1.113 from .998. But I can't really tell a difference in speed, I just like his kernel.

[Q] Overclocking the DZ

I'm currently running the rooted 1.82 rom from here on the forum, just stock android with sense. Rooted and s-offed with AMT without a problem. Clockworkmod installed. Everything works great. And I know how to flash new roms and such.
I actually like this standard rom, but I'd like to give overclocking a try. Can anyone point me to some information, or any good place to start?
Do I have to install a new kernel, if so, any preferences?
Thanks

I'd start with setCPU. I was using it to overclock/underclock until I realized CM7 had overclock settings built in.
I'm overclocked to 1.1.
Underclocked to 386.
I was when I was using setCPU as well.
U can buy it in market or get it at blackdroid.

I tried it, but on the standard rom it only lets you change frequency between 245 and 800 MHz..
just installed Virtuous unity, it already has some oc profile built in.
don't know if I can change that or if I have to use setcpu to override the standard settigns...

Yes you could use setcpu with unity but i wouldnt, because the hole point is not to
use a java based app to oc with. here is the why and how to change unity freq

Yeah I already noticed that on the virtuous site. Can I somehow check which frequency the cpu is running on? what frequencies does the dz normally run on?
I know the max is 800, but I guess it does some downclocking?

Can I flash/install a kernel while already on a ROM?

I'm running ACS Bamboozle on my SAMSUNG EPIC 4G.
I really wanna overclock to 1.4ghz, using the vision kernel.
Could I install the kernel while already on my room? or do i have to odin back to stock or something?
Vision kernel is froyo only, there are no overclockable kernels for ef02. Speaking of ef02 get off of it there have been two leaks after it that are more stable (eg22 & eh06)
If you want to overclock on gb use a paid app called tegrak overclock and search around for the right voltage settings.

Totally right here. Use EG22 and EH06. But to answer your question, No you do not have to Odin or anything. All kernels posted here are in .zip format for you to flash in CWM. The only hard part is choosing the kernel, and to see if it's compatible with your ROM.
yes, you can easily flash a kernel anytime you want.
and on the tegrak app, you don't need to pay for it, there is a free version. only thing that sucks about the free version is that the settings will NOT stay when you re-boot (selection box available in paid version)
I am currently running the free version @ 1.2 Ghz on EG22.
I am also using the RandomKind ROM Hawk v.2 with the EG22+ kernel included by Chris14g. The kernel itself can't be clocked using CPUtuner or SetCPU as far as I can tell (top option is 1Ghz on both) but can be OC'd using Tegrak.

[Q] Best ROM for gaming?

I wonder, because I've always been into gaming on alot of consoles, so I'd like to play games on my EVO, but smoothly

About the best thing you can do is get a lightweight ROM, Overclock your custom kernel
R2R going green and download no frills app to overclock, whatever it is if its sense I strongly reccomend amon ra recovery and ChopSuey kernel

I would go with decks with tiamat overclocked with chainfire3D

+10 This is the correct answer!!
Honestly any good aosp ROM.....decks, cm7, whatever. U should also give the savagedzen kernel a go. My handset seems to like it better, especially for intense graphic stuff......tiamat is still the standard though.
Thanks guise, should give them a try :3
i came into this thread, curious, since i've turned my evo into a media/game device and was wondering if there was a better setup than i'm currently using.
but apparently deck's 1.3 with tiamat 3.3.7 sbc and chainfire3d is... pretty hard to beat
I was not saying sense was better for gameing, I was saying if u are going to use sense that will work great on ALL levels, as in customization, speed, and simplicity...

Who's thread? I'm curious on how to use CF3D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14091373
Chainfire3d basically replaces your opengl driver with his modified version. Download the app, open it up, and click install Chainfire3d drivers. In his thread he gives pretty detailed information on what each of the settings do.
Deck's AOSP Rom or Barnacles AOSP Rom are the best to try, they are as base as you can get (CM7 comes with ADW Launcher blah) And either kernels mentioned above but I use Tiamat.
Use setCPU to set up 'performance' governor and max speed of 1.19 anything in the 1.2 range and you risk freezing/crashing. It all depends on your phone tho so you're welcome to try out 1.2Ghz OC if your phone can handle that stable.
Chainfire isn't really required as I only use it in rare occasions. usually to play Tegra based games or to use it's OpenGL features to lower texture quality etc..
Only drawback to the AOSP roms I've found tho are that multi-touch can be a bit buggy, if you're pressing with one finger already then another to move the screen around in lets say an FPS game, it's very choppy whereas Sense roms are smooth (but it might just be phone specific) Another slight issue I've noticed in AOSP roms is they make poor use of the radio/wifi drivers, I get better signal/wifi reception on Sense based roms, but this was a topic for gaming so anyway.. I'm currently testing a recently released sense 1 official Evo OG rom for games and I'm actually impressed (using it with stock kernal no SetCPU) soon I will be trying out some kernels but if you hate AOSP you should give some of the custom OG Roms a try.
