how to mount sd card while in recovery - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i got a big problem, or so it seems at the moment. i downloaded the new MIUI from qr code, hit install (through rom manager) and then unplugged it from the usb cord. so i think the sd card didn't mount (i'm not sure) but it went to bootloader when the screen came back on. where as normally it would install the rom, and then reboot. i can get to clockwork recovery, so it's not bricked or anything. when i hit reboot phone, it sends me back to bootloader. pull the battery, it sends me back to bootloader. what can i do here? i'm at a loss..ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! thank you

If you're asking how to mount SD in recovery, its under "mounts and storage".

yeah i see that, but i'm not sure which one will work, without further getting myself in a bind. AND, i'm really not sure this is my problem. I'm just assuming... my main problem is figuring out why it won't reboot back to normal.

ah well, nevermind. i just restored a backup. i was hoping to not have to do that, as i lost some stuff.

[Q] Help Cannot read sd after partition

Ok I screwed up majorly. I was in CWM which I had just updated to the newest version with orange text. I had finished a factory restore and cache wipe, wanting to flash the Cyanogen RC1. Well while playing around I ended up in the partitions menu and tried backing out with the power button, which apparently is the wrong procedure now that the back button is enabled in recovery. I believe I ended up selecting the 128MB partition with OM Swap (no idea what to do with these never used them before). I ended up not able to see my sd card and am stuck with phone with no ROM. I have only connected to a work computer without admin rights, the phone comes up as three removable drives that I am unable to open. Any Help Please.
I have another 2GB SD that came with phone, so when I return home I can flash CM7. My main worry is recovering the data on the card with old back ups, especially Titanium Back ups of Apps. Thanks to anyone who takes time to read and try to help.
In recovery, under Mounts and Storage there is a USB mount, so you may try that to see if you can get to your SD card. If not, then take it out and put it into you computer (if you don't have a card reader, there are USB readers you can buy). See if it comes up that way, and hopefully nothing got erased when it was partitioned.

PLEASE help!! Quick!

Hey guys, I don't find myself in need of help too often, but I really could use some now. I tried flashing decks latest 1.2x, and got stuck in a bootloop. Well, I have been having trouble flashing roms lately, so I decided to format my sd card. I took the card, and started formatting it. In the meantime, I put my old 8gb card back in the Evo to try to restore an old nandroid. My recovery (amon Ra 2.3) keeps telling me that it can't mount the sd card.
I get error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (no such file or directory) E:Can't mount sd card
Well, I'm kind of stuck now. I can't restore a nandroid, because my sd card won't mount. I can't boot the phone, because my flash of deck's 1.2x won't boot, and I can't flash anything else due to not being able to mount the sd card. I'm sort of stuck. I'm really hoping there is a way for me to restore a nandroid backup via ADB without needing access to my sd card. So far, Ive found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614016, but I'm not sure if that will work, I'm about to try. Does anyone know if I can have a nandroid backup on my computer, and flash it via ADB without needing my sd card? PLEASE HELP me guys, if I've ever needed help before, it's now.
ADB does recognize my device when I'm in recovery, or when my phone is stuck bootlooping, ADB sees it then too. Is there anything I can do? Thanks a bunch
EDIT: trying that method to restore a backup doesn't work. I get the same error about the sd card when I'm in shell and type mount /sdcard. I'm starting to think I'm totally screwed here..
isn't there some way to flash a rom without sdcard? try searching for it. i'll try as well.
good luck...
Buckley,,have you tried shutting the phone down,,then reboot into recovery,,should read card then

Kyle, turn off your device and remove the SD card. Wait about 10 seconds and then reinsert the card and boot to the bootloader and from there, into your recovery. Select the MS-USB option, connect to your computer and see if it will appear as a drive. If so, it should be mounted.

I thought that there is. That's what I'm looking for. The problem is that I'm not home and have no internet. I'm connected to some crappy open internet connection and I'm having trouble browsing and searching. I know there has to be a way to flash a rom or restore a nandroid backup using ADB without an sd card. I would really appreciate it if anyone can find a link. I just want to get booted up again, and then I'll try to fix my sd card problem, hopefully. I don't know what hell went wrong here...
To the other guy that responded, thanks but I get that same error every time in recovery. I've tried shutting the phone off, booting back to recovery, taking the card, putting the card back in, etc. I get the same error every time. Even when I'm in an adb shell and type "mount /sdcard" i get teh same error as when I'm in recovery....
Hhmm,,maybe a cache/dalvic wipe and see if it'll boot on up,,

Thanks Doug. I've tried that, and so far I keep getting the same error. I'm starting to panic, lol. I was just going for a quick rom update, and now here I am. My 16gb card is almost done formatting in my Windows machine, and then I'll try with that freshly formatted card. I'm hoping I can flash a rom with ADB just to get me booted back up. Then I know calkulin has a thread on how to fix the sd card, which I will look for and try to follow. I just really wish the rom I flashed before this happened would effin boot up. It just loops at the boot animation and I can't get the damn thing up and going.
Kyle, take the card out again, make sure there is no dust, lint or smudges on its contact areas and then reinsert it. Boot into recovery and select MOUNTS. Now select Mount /sdcard at the bottom of the menu. That *should* work, my friend.
and if that doesnt work try this make sure you have the nandroid on your pc ok then format sd card then try mounting sd card and putting a nandroid or rom on it if it doesnt mount your not screwed you could just buy another sd card and a sd card reader and the nandroid that you have on the desktop and put it on the new sd card with the sd card reader mount the sd card with the s card reader and put the nandroid that you had on the desktop on the new sd card and put it inside the evo and do a restore

However, the second one looks like what I need, and I hope that will work. Im about to try it. I'll let you know.

Don't panic, my friend. We've been doing this far too long to know better than to do that......I'm certain that the freshly formatted card will work just fine for you. Still, mounting the card in the recovery's MOUNTS menu should work.

Thanks for all the help guys. I've hit my 5 thanks limit for the day, otherwise I'd get you all a few more thanks.
Here's the update. My 16gb card finished formatting. I copied over a few of my nandroids to it, and put it in the phone. To my surprise, the card mounted and i was able to view my contents of the card from within recovery. I chose to restore one of my backups, and i got "oops, something went wrong". I think there was a problem when I copied the file over to the card, because it took FOREVER to copy, and I thought it froze up. So I htink the backup got corrupted. Anyways, I mounted USB MS toggle in recovery, and copied over a fresh rom. I successfully flashed it, and it's in the process of booting now, I hope it works.
YAAAAAA BABY IT BOOOOOTED. WORD TO BIG BIRD! Sweet, now to get back in action.
I still have no idea at all what went wrong. I also don't understand why the phone wouldnt read my old stock 8gb card that came with the phone. I got the same error on both card, but after the format it's working. Anyways, glad to be back. Thanks again for the quick, prompt, and very useful responses. I love xda. Thanks
Duuuuuude...what hboot are you on? If you have the eng bootload, you can push recovery via fastboot.
Edit: Glad you're up an running/

Phone seems to be unable to boot into CM7

So earlier, i wanted to format my SD card again and clear off some junk, so I moved everything to my computer and tried formatting with Settings>Storage Erase. However, that just hung up for a long time, so I booted into recovery and formatted the SD card from there.
That went fine, so I mounted the SD card in recovery and copied back my files. But when I restarted, my phone just goes to the bootloader menu. I cant boot back into the ROM anymore; only recovery / bootloader.
Did I mess something up? I do have a nandroid backup, but its a little old.
Thanks
EDIT: Also, when I choose Power Down from the bootloader, it brings the bootloader back up. I think I have to take the battery out if I actually, want it to stay off.

[Q] Possibly bricked? Wildfire S Metro Marvelc

Ok so baisically my retard side came out last night and i accidently installed electricfire theme from rom manager, when my phone booted it was full of errors so i thought i would put my phone in recovery and reset/clear data etc. Didnt work ofcourse, so i booted into cw recovery to restore my nandroid backup, then notice i had version 5.0.2.8 and not .6 so whenever i try to restore my backup it will stop at certain points in the middle of the restore and reboot then enter boot loop, I can still get to hboot and recovery though. So then i was going to try and put the stock rom zip on my sd card to flash through recovery but my computer wont recognize my phone as a storage disk to put the zipped file on the sd card.. But my computer does recognize that my phone is plugged in when in hboot, but a prompt pops up asking to install driver software etc.... Posting a thread was the last thing i wanted to do but i couldn't seem to find the same problem on the fourms. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Take the sd card out of the phone. In a card reader, from your computer, copy the cwm 5.0.2.6 file ( www.redmondpie.com/how-to-install-f...overy-on-supported-android-devices-root-only/) the root of your sd card (it should be a PG76IMG.ZIP file). Put the card back in your phone. Take the battery out for about 5 seconds. Put the battery back. Hold the volume down button then press and release the power button. The phone will go on, let it do its thing, it's installing cwm. When it's done, take the battery out again, then take the sd card out. Put it in the pc's card reader and delete the PG76IMG.zip file. Make sure you do this, otherwise it won't work. Put the card back in the phone, also the battery. Now hold the volume down button and press and release the power button. It will look for the PG76IMG.zip file, but it won't find it. When it finishes doing its thing, press the volume down button to where it says recovery, then press the power button and you should now boot into recovery. From here, restore your backup, and you should be good to go. Let this be a lesson and make sure you research and understand what you are doing BEFORE doing it......
Thank you for the reply, ill have to get a card reader then.. haha thank you much appreciated.
I was finally able to get a card reader today.. Worked perfectly. thank you again, much appreciated.

[Q] Phone started acting up after app install, need help

Okay, so. I have an HTC One M8, rooted, S-On, TWRP, whatever else. It was running just fine until yesterday or so, when I wanted to switch out an icon pack, but wanted to keep my stock launcher, so I found Unicon on the App Store, and downloaded it (along with the Minimal Hero/Hera Icon Pack, or whatever it was called). As soon as I installed it, I started having problems with my phone restarting randomly, and I disabled the Icon Pack in Unicon, and got rid of Unicon (disabling it in Xposed Installer and then uninstalling the app).
That didn't solve my problems, though. I managed to somehow keep the phone on after numerous restarts, but every time my phone was turned off, it went into the same constant restart cycle (where it restarts about a minute after it's booted up). I tried searching for ways to remedy the problem, ending up in the TWRP recovery, where I tried wiping the cache and the Dalvik cache, which didn't help. I also uninstalled Xposed Framework and before that, tried disabling all the Xposed modules, nothing helped.
As things stand now, I did a wipe on all the categories in TWRP (including cache, Dalvik cache, internal storage, system and data) and when I rebooted from recovery, my phone was stuck with the HTC boot logo. Now I'm just letting it sit on my bed, showing the boot logo, waiting for it to drain.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I did a factory reset (perhaps stupidly) and now, when I reboot it, it says "No OS is installed!". Since it's not showing up on my computer while in recovery, how should I proceed to flash the stock ROM?
when you wiped the system partition, you wiped the ROM.
You should put a stock ROM on your phone and flash it.
Follow one of the returning to stock guides.

Excuse my stupidity, but could you point me towards one of those? I was looking for that, but didn't really find anything helpful.
Also, I know how to flash a ROM in its simplest form, but my phone's not booting and I don't know how to get a ROM file onto the phone itself, because it doesn't show up in the computer when in recovery. How do I flash ROMs from the computer or whatever?

I'm sure the search tools on this forum work just as well for you as they do me. Or you could probably start at a sticky thread.
You could also search for "adb sideload" and "adb push".

I might have missed this but did you do a recovery? Within TWRP you have the option of storing it on internal storage, or the sd card. If you did the sd card way, there might be hope. Just hold down power and volume up and when the screen goes dark, hold power down to get into recovery, then restore the backup. If it was on internal storage, its probably gone, and if you didnt make one, well..wouldnt an RUU fix that?
Also you did more then a plain factory reset...that would still keep the os etc installed..you wiped that sucker completely clean

I suggest you make use of the external SD card and a USB card reader.

Yeah, I know. I was idiotic. I'm just kind of a newb to the whole scene, and I panicked when my phone started acting up. It was stupid to wipe system too.
And yeah, I have an SD card and my computer has a reader for it. I can access my SD card, but how do I install something on my SD card from recovery? As far as I can see, it only lets me install form internal storage.

Take the SD card out and put it onto your computer, download a ROM and place it on SD Card. Insert card back into phone, boot into recovery and change location path to external SD card. There is an option for that.
Location where ROM is... of course.

There is, actually, no option for that. I got the ROM adb pushed to my phone and got it flashed, though, so it's all good now (despite the fact that I idiotically made myself lose all my internal storage data).
Anyway, thanks for the help!

within twrp...where it says internal storage after you tap backup,.. tap those words Internal Storage, it will bring up 3 options..Internal Storage..MicroSD..or OTG I believe..I know mine does..I had 2.7.1.0 and which ever was below it allow that option. I know. I swear, I tried, didn't seem to work. Maybe something else's amiss elsewhere. In any case, I got it adb pushed to the internal storage, so it's all alright, phone's fine now. I'll look into the microSD thing, but I'm still glad I learned a bit more about Android in the process of recovering my device (because it's a path where most is yet untrodden for me).
And yeah, being on xda as such a newbie is sort of daunting, especially as I'm pretty impatient with people who don't understand as well something that I do, but I always hope for at least one paragon who helps, and helps with patience and friendliness (which I did get, so thank god).
