[Q] New to the evo, a few questions. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been on the htc hero for awhile now and I just purchased the evo. I was wondering what you guys thought the most stable build was, and what the fastest build was currently. Im looking to try both out. Thanks guys!

Personally I recommend CM7 + Tiamat kernel + viperboy's script.

I use decks rom 1.2 stable + sz kernel sbc+viperboys scripts

Aweome guys thanks.

And if you like sense 3.0/2.1 roms I like syergy or kingsrom here are some links

as far as rooting goes... many ways. it depends on how tech savy you are. There are automatic rooting programs out there. Like unrevoked for instance.
However doing that, it doesnt teach you about your phone.

Thanks

If you haven't tried chad's incredikernel:
http://chad0989.dyndns.org/2.6.32.27-incredikernel-12232010-plus25v.zip
then I suggest you give it a go.
Use it without setCPU, at least at first. It has one built in so you really don't need one, if you find it too sluggish or you think you can set it better then put it on after you gave the whole Kernel a good run without it.
I find this Kernel very fast and the best for battery life that I've tried.

Not many of those. Really CM7 is the only one I've found worthy of flashing.
Try the RC1
(If you go with AOSP then you will need a different kernel than listed above)
Thanks guys for the replies.
I will try #8 tonight, also on chad's Kernels I have read the same and will be trying that one as well. I'm really liking Senseless 2.0 with Launcher pro Plus
Yeah I understand that with a sense rom you have to have a sense Kernel and with AOSP rom an AOSP kernel. Question though. IF i did decide to try and AOSP ROM, that AOSP rom should/would come with a new Kernel right? Just don't flash Lou's stuff/sense kernel after that.. only flash another AOSP Kernel. Is that right?
I have the Droidx so this Kernel stuff is new to me lol.. still learning.

You got it Most/all ROMs for the Inc come with a kernel included. I personally like the one CM7 RC1 comes with, gives me great battery life
Ziggy's 12111 beta
If I flash to incredikernel from Lou's #4 I just need to wide delvic cache correct?

[Q] Kernels?

I just flashed koni's elite II rom (which is awesome) and i want a really fast kernel that's compatible, any suggestions?
any sense kernel. try a few. when i was on sense, i either used netarchy's newest cfs version, or one of ziggy's beta kernels (www.ziggy471.com). i also like calkulin's modded htc 15 kernel. try cyanogenmod nightly 7 stock kernel is new and beast. or try savagezen on aosp.
Thanks man
no problem
I wouldn't have advised him to use and AOSP kernel on a Sense rom.

" try cyanogenmod nightly 7 stock kernel is new and beast. or try savagezen on aosp."
i'd say thats clear enough. you can mock me for being wrong when he flashes savagezen over myns (which would totally be worth the pictures of fail that people would post btw)

Easiest way to Root my Incredible?

Am coming from Droid Eris and was rooted so I know the ropes a little. Question is does Z4 Root work still? If i use the 1.3apk will it root right? If not whats the best next easiest way? Also....once rooted do I use Rom Manager from the market to get "Recovery."
Was trying to find most fastest and easiest way to get root and recovery aka SU right? lol thnx guys
Someone didn't take the time to search for his own answer..
There is a search button around here and I recommend that you use it.
I did I see unrevoked V3 and Z4Root both have its problems. Was just trying to get a straight forward answer. Thats all....
No problems with unrevoked 3. It roots and s-off's. Just read directions literally takes 5 minutes.

Thnx bro just read up on it and how to load drivers and all for unrevoked. The ROMs that are available for the incredible do they come with whatever updated Kernel the devs bakes into them? Or its up to me to choose one? Also can you recommended a good ROM? Fast Stable and awesome battery life. I don't like the look of GB. But maybe ill like it on this phone compared to my Droid Eris Rooted running GB. Just the look of it turns me off
With sense based roms I've had good luck with re-engineered 2.3.2 and Chad's incredikernel. Im not sure about baked kernels being up to date which is the reason I flash a kernel after any rom flash. As far as stable fast and good battery I have since left sense roms which I stripped of sense anyway and went to cm7 with invisiblek kernel and have yet to look back.

Ima try your current setup. Where do I find the Kernel your using? Dumb question does the theme chooser in Protekk ROM have a purple theme?
NVM I found the thread lol How you like the kernel? Fast nd nice battery life?
The way I setup my phone any kernel would be equally as fast, but battery is better on invisiblekk. Make sure you download fast charge kernel. Never have any issues with anything with my setup. There are alot of options in cyan settings make sure you go through them.

Hey. I'm coming over from an eris when I get my inc on tuesday. I was browsing these threads and saw your question. I believe that it provides the ability to charge your phone faster then normal. Haven't had a chance to read up on how it does so yet. It is listed as included in some kernels such as here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854390
and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848453
I found a thread linking all kernels here so you can look and see what will work best for you:

Thats what I'm talking about. Doing your OWN research before you get your phone. I love it. I'm doing the same thing as you because my dinc should be here either tomorrow or the next day. Thanks for the links to these threads though

[Q] new roms

I have been off the scene for awhile so much changes so quick. I have rooted my phone with unrevoked last year and am on jiminy v cricket rom. My phone has been working good. I found out about hdmwin mirror and it did not work so that brought me here. I am currently still on android 2.2 and rooted and want to try some new roms like cyna 7 and nitelies. here are my questions
1. do i need to re root phone to newer version or is unrevoked still alright
2. what roms work for 2.2 and get hdmi mirror for hdmwin
3. same thing as question 2 for kernals.
4. any addtional info
I read quite a few threads and got confused..
thanks for you help.
Shouldn't need to re-root. Why are you holding off on running a 2.3 ROM?
I am not sure if the new roms matched up with android 2.2. might be missing some info on this I read but a little confused on the 2.2 to 2.3 and so forth on which roms work for each one.
You don't need to upgrade to official 2.3. I never did. The 2.3 ROMS are not gonan give you the great battery life that Froyo ROMS had, but they have a TON more to them now. No SBC Kernels for Sense, either.
You in a good state right now. Go to the link in my URL. It will explain everything about cm7 and you need to flash amon RA too which is in there

Kernels: Chopsuey 9.2.7 and Freedom .9 are the major ones, if you are sticking with Sense.
Kernels are the major part. I would suggest MikG, or if you are feeling adventurous, either MikRunny or Hybrid (in Jaredthegreat's thread FEARMEde). I suggest mounting data in recovery before flashing any kernel. Under "Mounts" option in recovery.
Maybe you need to update to AmonRa 2.3, still the best
AOSP-wise, either MIUI or Deck's, paired with Tiamat 4.1 kernel SBC.

[Q] Evo 4G Kernel

I just recently installed a custom ROM and i wanted to overclock my Evo because it was laging a bit but i heard that to overclock your evo you have to have a custom kernel. I have no idea what a kernel even is, lol. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a good kernel, that i can use to both overclock my fone, and that won't brick it. If it helps im using the Longed Shooter ROM. And just to let you know, im new to this stuff so go just a tadddd bit easy on me

chopsuey, goldenmonkey, poonsense and freedom are the current gingersense kernels meaning they run on android 2. 3. 3 Roms with sense tiamat, savaged-zen are the aosp kernels I know of off hand as I don't run aosp my particular phone doesn't like aosp for some reason after an hr or 2 every aosp Rom bootloops. I personally run The EVO classic v 0. 0. 3 with more freedom v. 9 golden monkey 1. 1 or chopsuey 9. 2. 7 depending on what I need battery performance or hdmi chopsuey 9,. 2. 7 runs hdmi well on my phone aggressive or more freedom give me good batterylife. and goldenmonkey gives me good performance for heavy graphics gaming but sacrifices the batterylife a bit just pick one or more to test download to ur SD and save somewhere ull. remember it go to recovery wipe cache dalvik cache repeat repeat again for good measure flash and test it out give it a few days to settle in b4 deciding to switch it up and if after 3 days or a week u don't like a particular kernel repeat process with ur next choice. I keep all my roms kernels mods and such in folders labeled what they are and for which Rom if thy are mods inside a folder labeled 0.roms,mods,kernels so its the first folder in my recovery to save my volume rocker some abuse scrolling in recovery

what rom did you flash? if it was a aosp rom check out the link in my sig for other aosp roms/kernels. in my thread there is also a link to another thread on how to set up everything
sense rom - sense kernel (chopsuey, freedom, etc)
aosp rom - aosp kernel (tiamot, cm kernel, etc.)
Its really a preference on which ones you like and how your phone reacts
