Stock apps as in stock sense? From a non-rooted mytouch or just the google apps? I would suggest looking for the cm wiki and downloading the google apps package from there, you might have the wrong set.

The stock google apps...like messaging, email, maps, etc. i'll try that when I get home

Pros And Cons Of DeOdex Over Odex?

What will I gain from deodexed roms?
What will I loose?
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
odex - more free space, faster boot, a little snappier.
deodex - customization (tweaks, themes ,fonts, etc.)
thats pretty much the big picture...
deodexed is preferred because u can just customize the phone in many ways... odex leaves u pretty much stuck at the same place u would be on a stock rom.
i do think this belongs in another thread.
Odexed - Unthemeable and MARGINALLY faster.
DeOdexed - Themeable and more space in system.
I really couldn't tell a difference as far as speed.
So far the biggest difference I can tell is that I had an odexed rom and I just flashed the latest update deodexed and titanium backup couldn't restore 90% of my data... I'm hoping this is an odexed vs deodexed thing and not a corrupt backup that passed verification thing..
To me the biggest advantage of going with an Odexed version is you can download updates from the Marketplace for the included apps when they become available. For example, if Google pushes an update to GMail or Sprint pushes an update to the Voicemail app, and you're on a deodexed ROM, you can't get it directly from the Marketplace....

Yea, I get updates all the time for my apps...
As far as downloading/updating apps it doesn't matter if it is deodex our odex; it depends on wether the rom is signed our not as far as I know.

I see. Apologies for spreading misinformation, apparently all the de-odexed ROMs I used previously we not re-signed then, or something.

The issue you are seeing is actually associated to ROM developers signing their apks with test keys.
Upon updating in the market, Android verifies the signing authority and if they don't match what they are in the Market, it fails to update.
DeOdexed or Odexed, If they are signed properly, things will update

I just flashed the new DeOdexed version as well and the big difference I can see is that I lost 35mb of app storage space. This is a bit of a issue for me. As soon as the Odex version is out I am going to reflash.

If you used the Deodexed rom that was released yesterday, the version of Busybox was the culprit for me. The rom came with some version 1.71 or something Busybox, and when I'd try to restore my backups, my phone would just reboot. I let Titanium install it's own Busybox (1.60 I believe) and it worked fine.
Everything updates....
just fine from the market. No issues here.

[Q] So I just rooted and flashed Cyanogen

... But I no longer have the Market, or any of my contacts... in fact, it seems that everything is gone.
Can someone tell me how this is properly done? :/
And by the way, if anyone has any decent Gingerbread ROMs, I'd love that
I had the same issues so I went back to virtuas 0.8.1 wich is sweet. I think I'm going to wait intill cynamod 7.0 comes out, speaking of that does anyone know what the progress is on that? How far away can we expect? I'm super pumped

You need to download the gapps zip aswell. The zip will contain the Google apps your looking for. I know for a fact cyanogen links them on the first post of all this treads along with making them available on rom manager. Just go to the first post click his link to the rom and you'll find it on his CyanogenMod forum. They could be right under the download link to the rom.
First post, download the Google adding and install like you could any other zip.

just check out the cm7 in the g2 development section and youll see how far they have gone, and when itll be released.
You didn't also flash the Google Apps. You need to do both. CM doesn't include the Google Apps per a copyright dispute with Google. The other ROMs include them just because CM was the first big ROM and Google asked them to stop.
Google Apps can be downloaded separately from the CM site, ROM Manager, or XDA.

New gapps 0613/updating a current rom installation or have to flash with a new one?

I have installed them over the latest cm nightly and on a fresh nightly install yet it seems to bring up the same apps to install and the same versions at that...am I missing something here? Doesn't our google apps installer just point to the market and not actually install any apps? Why would it even matter what version the gapps were then? Please someone break this down for me!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
For the most part yeah it just points you to the Market apps. But some things like the Market itself, News and Weather, Calendar, and Talk are not on the market and come with the gapps flash.
Also, where did you get 0617? The latest I see is 0613 here http://goo-inside.me/gapps
Edit: 0613 is also the latest on ROM Manager

I am so sorry I was doing it from memory I meant to say 0613. So if I flash the latest package on top of my current nightly will it update those things that you named that are not included on the market? Thank you for taking the time to answer me I figured I would get ignored since it was a noobie question.
Also I'm on mobile app so I can't fix the thread title sorry everyone!

Yup it should update those things not included in the market. Personally I didn't notice any difference from 0307

After I flashed news and weather, and calendar are the same version. Don't think it updated a thing. Maybe it can only be done on a clean flash.

Hmm that would make sense. But can't the market just autoupdate itself? And why does the cyanogen wiki page and rom manager still povide 0307 as the latest? Weird. After extensive google searching there is nowhere that lists what is actually included in the google apps package. Some places have summaries but nowhere has an actual breakdown of what is included and what version, what the hell!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Yeah the market does autoupdate itself but this way you just start with the latest version I guess, and why not
Also, the wiki is only as up to date as those who maintain it

The economist app not compatible with ICS 4.0.3 FC15 ?

I love this magazine and I'm paid subscriber, and I last night I upgraded my custom ROM to ICS 4.0.3 and I'm getting 'this app is not compatible with this device' error.
I have a SG2 running a custom rom.
Any pointers?
Thanks guys!
Where are you getting the error message? From market download?
Usually, most of the apps are running well on ICS. So, if you have an app already downloaded or backed up, try to install the app using backup.
If you don't have any backup, only the way would be going back to previous rom and download the app, backup and coming back to ICS. Try install the app from backup.
My one more question is, did you change the lcd density?

Thanks for your reply.
I tried installing this app by clicking directly on their website, which in turn sent me to the android market and at the top it says 'this app is not compatible with your device'
Unfortunlally I didn't back up any apps.
And no, I didn't change the lcs density, to be honest I dont even know how to do it, lol.
should I actually be doing that?
Is this a mobile echnomist lite?
I was able to download from my ICS FC15 Rom.
[update] never mind. I found the app also from their website and linked to google market.
It seems like only the way would be going back to GB (if you were able to download from there), and save the app. Then comes back to FC15 again to manually install the app.
Ohhh that's a pain in the a.......
maybe I could download the apk from a a website and try it that way?
I DO not recommend but if you can, that would be easiest way until ICS is formally supported.
For me, it worked like a charm in that way.
Now I'm removing the app from my phone.
I have the file, I think it will work for anyone that did not the backup
here it is
edit, I have to have more than 10 post to share a link, I post it on the economist forum ...
Come on Economist!
You would think for $100 a year they could provide a recent app. Think they got their heads shoved up their ipads.
I used airdroid to download the apk from my phone and then upload it back to the new tablet, worked like a charm. However, the app IS laggy with jellybean, definitely something needs fixing, scrolling is very jerky.

Settings/App(Google Play)/Clear Data/clear Cache/Clear Defaults then when you go to Play Store and sign in again it should work. This is how I always clear the not compatible error.

Could anyone tell me if Whatsapp 2.8.1075 is compatible with JB?

As I asked on topic, this is quite important to me cos Whatsapp is the only free messenger that my mom knows how to use and I'm a big fan of JB
Hi,

I think downloading it from playstore doesn't work, complains about compatibility. You can download it from www.whatsapp.com/download
Thanks guys, downloading JB now
The given link did not work for me when I tried today from my mobile. (but works with desktop pc). The link i used to install is to use the word android after the whatsapp domain to get this app installed.
Also make sure to turn on the setting to install apps from other souces to get it installed sucessfully
could any jelly bean users confirm if PlayStore actually allows whatspp already? or is it will under "incompatible", lazy to flash my rom to check it out.
hope you guys dont mind
Yeah pal, WhatsApp works fine on JB. I have CM10 and all apps work. If you use SwiftKey then install titanium backup, make a back up, uninstall and then re install. This is because you lose it when rebooting.

You have to do a manual install (www.whatsapp.com/download), it wont install from the play store.
And then you can use something like Easy Installer to install the .apk
Well I already tried some jb Roms and all were compatible with whatsapp, but I never installed it from play store, I always restored it with titanium...
