I'm not an absolute noob, but is it possible to bork the phone's Wi-Fi? For the last few ROMs (MikG stock, SavagedZen stock, and Deck's w/ Tiamat) Wi-Fi would turn on randomly, scan for a couple minutes, then turn off. Other times, when I would go into settings and turn on Wi-Fi, it would turn on, get IP address, then turn off.
Now, when I jumped to the newest SalvageMod w/ Godmode, when I go into settings and try to turn on Wi-Fi, it says "Error" under the word "Wi-Fi" while in settings and doesn't turn on.
I'm trying out Stock 2.2 for a while, see if it happens again. I'm just wondering at the possibility. I have updated my radio/wimax/pri/nv before, but not recently.
I have eliminated the possibility of an app, because I kept the ROMs stock just to see if it would happen. And it did.
Any help would be appreciated.
While rooted, had you used wireless tether at any point? Also when flashing between roms, did you do a full wipe?
I always wipe 3 times between ROMs, volume buttons are worn out haha. Don't use Titanium backup, I always do fresh installs. Wireless Tether did come with MikG I think, I never have installed it from the market.
Router's good, I tested it at home and at Starbucks and a lakehouse.
Alrighty, well I ask because if wireless tether starts with errors, it'll break wifi and you have to reboot. Also did you use any custom kernels?

Correct, therefore you may want to uninstall the Wireless Tethering app and just use the Sprint Hotspot (which is hacked). This has also happened to me before.
MikG 2.2 with stock, SavagedZen with stock, Deck's w/ Tiamat, and SalvageMod 1.3 w/ Godmode. Problems started around the MikG time (not blaming the ROM)
Oh, and I never used Wireless Tether
What recovery are you using, because it almost seems like you just have bad wipes, since you did everything right.
AmonRa 2.3, I wipe 3x by hand (data, cache, dalvik, sdext, android.secure, system, boot, factory reset) and use Virus's Superwipe.
I could reflash AmonRa again, if you think that would help

Well I would try to reflash it, and see what happens.
The problem persisted in 2.2, so I flashed AmonRa as a PC36IMG. I wiped everything I could except SD card 3x, and installed the new Director's Cut. It now has returned to its old problem of turning on, scanning, then off.

Try switching kernels. Also you're sure you have the right wep key if its encrypted? it'll do that if its the wrong code, scan, disconnect, and repeat.
I flashed back to an older radio and then back to the newest one. Wi-Fi magically just worked again! Everything else but Wi-Fi worked, that's odd, I had downloaded it from the same place.
It is working now on Director's Cut, going to try it on an AOSP ROM and see what happens.. thanks for the help! I'll hit my thanks button on my way

Okay, I was using BakedSnack and everything worked fine. Switched to Fresh and everything worked fine. I did SOMETHING, though. No idea what. But my wifi isn't working correctly. I can connect to different networks, but there's no internet connection. I can connect fine though 3G/2G. But anytime I use wifi...no internet.
I flashed back to BakedSnack from a nandroid backup and wifi worked. Tried flashing CM6 on top of that and...boom...no more wifi.
Does anyone have any ideas?
and you have done a complete wipe? not just cache?
start with the stock 2.2 odex or deodex rom....
are you using clockwork or amon ra recovery?
if you are restoring everything with titanium bqck up after you flash then stop it....

+1 on the titanium issue. Titanium can create a lot of trouble if used for more than just apps, and some system things, if done very selectively. When 2.2 first dropped, people were flashing to 2.2, then restoring all kinds of stuff from Android 2.1, creating much havoc.

Yeah, I'm wiping cache, data, and davlick cache every time. As soon as I boot into CM6 from a working version of bakedsnack, I try connecting via wifi with no luck. I updated the radios last night on both (I have no idea if that would have helped or not. just a desperation move). Wifi worked no matter what on bakedsnack, before and after. On CM6 it didn't matter what I did.
I'm using clockwork recovery. I haven't touched titanium (I could never really utilize it when I was switching between a Sense ROM and a non-Sense. Never knew what I should omit from my restore process).
Switched to Amon recovery to see if that made a difference. No luck yet. (bump)
Flash a stock rooted rom and test your luck. If it still doesn't work after wiping + cache + dalvik then there is something wrong with your phone.
I'm trying to flash a stock ROM now, but I keep getting an error:
"write_raw_image PACKAGE...." installation aborted. something like that.
Limited research appears to indicate that the stock ROM is too big for my boot partition or somesuch.
I can install CM6 all day long. I can nandroid restore anything.
I don't know if this is relevant or not...trying to research. but my hboot version is 0.76.2000. I'm running all the latest radios/wimax.
You might try looking at your firmware settings in both a rom that wifi works and one where it doesn't.

Don't know how you could have inadvertently changed these but, who knows.
Try this in a terminal emulator
/ $ getprop persist.wimax.fw.version
That value should not change between ROMs.
Alogcat from market will display the status messages generated while you try to get on wifi. Start Alogcat then tap home tap wifi, tap home resume Alogcat select logs... look for red.

Thanks for the tips, willy. I'll try these out later today after work or if things slow down.
I did have some progress, though. I was able to get wifi to work on the Fresh ROM. I had installed a "wiredtetherfix" from the Wired Tether for Evo is working/patched thread. That fixed my wired tether, but evidently broke the wifi. So applying his "wiredtetherrestore" fix got my wifi working again. Unfortunately, a fresh install of CM6 from that piont (with full wipes beforehand) didn't cure wifi for that ROM. That's the one I want most, CM6, so I can go back to a faster ROM that had all the tethering apps as native applications.
On FreshROM the wimax fw version is: 4.6.2.2v26023_
Will update later with CM6 wimax version.
Okay, I flashed CM6 again and tried to pull the wimax fw version. There is no wimax on CM6, though. I think that's the problem, anyway. When I run the command, nothing happens. When I run wimax_mtd, it says "not found."
CM6
wifi MAC: 38:E78:17:CB:**
android version: 2.2.1
Baseband: 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel version: 2.6.34.5-cyanogenmod
Build number: FRG83
bump. Anyone have any ideas?
Hello,
My Droid Incredible can not connect to 3G nor can it connect to 1X. Luckily, I can still receive calls and sms. A couple of days ago, I upgraded from CM 7.0.2 or 7.0.3 to CM 7.1 RC1. A couple of hours later, I installed Synergy, wiping the cache and dalvik and data in the process. After a day of having that rom restart every 30 minutes or so, I restored the backup I had made of CM 7.1, without wiping the cache, dalvik, and data. I then noticed that I could not connect to 3G and to 1X. I thought I might just be in a dead zone, even though I have never had connectivity issues, so I didn't worry about it. Then, I noticed the same thing at my work, and anywhere I went no connectivity. I tried flashing a different kernel, Chad's incredikernel, 2.6.38.8, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions?
You need to install either liberation or the rooted leaked ota, set it up, then do *228 option 1, reboot *228 option 2. Then go back and reinstall fresh your cm7. I would fully wipe both installs, which means going to mounts and storage and wiping boot, dara, system, and cache. You have remnents of synergy on your phone. You need a real good wipe.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to try that right now.
Let me know if that works. You may want to download vr superwipe.zip and keep it on your sd card to flash right before the rom, its what i use everytime. If ive helped you please hit the thanks button! Gracias
I only installed up to the root leaked ota and it works fine now. I actually think that the phone is faster with the ota than any other rom I've tried so I'm going to stay with that at least until I get home from my work.
The ota is smoking, it is what i use also.
If ive helped you, please hit the damn thanks button!
Alright. My Inc is having some problems. Here are some facts
Bought on December 23, 2010
Rooted it somewhere in January
Ran CM6 till CM7 came out
Here's what's was going down after I flashed to CM7
Flash CM7
Every 15 minutes my google maps app will randomly crash. No matter what I'm doing a "GOOGLE MAPS HAS STOPPED RESPONDING" sign will appear.
Random reboots in the middle of doing nothing
Re-flashed to stock, then back to CM7 and everything seemed okay... until a few days ago
Suddenly while browsing the internet EVERYTHING CRASHES. EVERYTHING.
The browser, music, messaging, screenshot it, even google frameworks.
wtfman.jpg
reboot my phone, this occurs again after a few hours.
Next day it happens again. Now, my phone got stuck in a boot-loop
So I flash back to CM6. Now here's my phone's symptoms.
Home button won't work. It vibrates on press, but doesn't do anything.
Search button won't work
No lock screen will ever come up. Ever. It's set, but it never appears.
I cannot receive calls. People will call me, and it will immediately show up in my call log, but the answer screen simply doesn't show up.
What did I do wrong? How do I fix this?
Alternatively, how can I flash back to stock and make it look like I never rooted it? I believe I'm still within my warranty.
What hboot and radio are u on? I know if your not using a gingerbread radio with cm7 it likes to go all wonky at times. I would wipe everything try a fresh install of cm7 and flash a gingerbread radio as well.

sounds like you didn't wipe everything correctly. Did you wipe cache, devcache (probably spelled that wrong), data, datadata? Also did you restore apps through TI backup or any other backup app?

I did not wipe errything the first few flashes. But my last flash I wiped my cache, data, etc.
Try flashing the 7.07 Gingerbread radio, get it here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=18 and see if that helps.
Are there any alternatives to that?
Try flashing another ROM and see what happens. Make sure you wipe cache, dalvik, format system, and boot. Nandroid before you attempt that. Give Joelz Prime Xl 3d a try.

First update that old Froyo radio with the new stock not leaked and totally safe because Verizon officially released it radio that jackbtha1 suggested.
Second, boot into recovery and run "fix permissions." That option always helps me when my phone decides to FC everything. It has helped me so that I run it after every rom flash now
I was running CM9 without any issues (CM9 kernel) and did a complete wipe and flashed the ACS AOSP 4.1.1, and all seemed well. At some point I lost 3G, then it picked up 1x... and that went back & forth for a while... then eventually both stopped connecting and now it won't come back at all.
I even restored my CM9 nandroid and I still don't have data.
I didn't flash anything but the ROM and the gapps linked in the ACS thread, and like I said everything was fine for a bit.
Any ideas? Voice works, but no data.
I updated Profile & PRL with WiFi on, both said successful, but when I turn WiFi off the data connection doesn't happen. Yes, Mobile Data is turned on, and I've tried all of the different settings.
EDIT: I even flashed CM9 back over top of itself... nada. Next up... full wipe and fresh CM9 flash again... /sigh ***WAIT*** That fixed it...

I've recently been trying out ICS ROMs for the Evo, but decided to return to Gingerbread because ICS seems to mess up GPS accuracy, no matter which ROM I try. I'm now on my third different Gingerbread ROM today because I've run into a problem I've never seen before. When I first install I'm able to turn on WiFi and connect to my router no problem, but sometime later, the phone refuses to connect. In wireless settings you can turn on WiFi, and it will think about it for awhile, and then just stop trying. Sometimes I get a com.android.settings not responding message, but not always. Anyway, I tried searching for this but couldn't really even figure out how to word it. This sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.
Re-Install your Rom, first.
Update your Radios.
Simple.

Try what Nickitt said first, and if that doesn't work, try this out --
Go into recovery, clear boot, dalvik, and do a factory reset. Then, install a ROM of your choice.
For some odd reason, I started having similar WiFi issues on my EVO after installing the Mason kernel, where the WiFi would indicate that it's on for a few seconds, and then move back to the off position (or, it would stay permanently in the state where it seems like it's turning on). Reflashing the ROM by itself didn't work, but clearing boot somehow did the trick.
Go figure.

I failed to mention initially, but I did try updating the radios as well. Regardless, I'm not having the problem anymore, and it's possible that there was simply something in my Titanium backups (done while on ICS) that it didn't like. I started thinking back on the timing and realized that the issue was showing up only after I went through the batch restore process, so this time I only restored a few apps that had data I didn't want to lose, and nothing else. So far so good.
Except of course that I'm now having a new problem that may be associated with a2sd, but I'll post that in that Deck's Reloaded thread...
Thanks!
I had a lot of force closes after restoring ICS backups in GB. Don't think the backups are backwards compatable...not all the time anyway.
