What does it mean if, after resetting your phone, the battery level drops from 60% to 13%? Is that hardware? Is that the ROM? is that the battery?
I ask because, after hanging on a PRL update (that i don't think was successful) for an hour, the phone wouldn't stop pulling down data for any discernible reason, so I reset it. Before the reset, the SRF 1.2 baterry icon showed 60% battery and after booting back up, the phone prompted me to charge it because it was down to 13%. In addition, I put the phone on the charger for the PRL update, during which the charge level actually decreased slightly and the phone heat up to around 35C. Spare Parts reports the battery is healthy. Is this just a freak occurance or should I be worried?
Don't worry. Just run the battery calabation procedures. Theres several ways to do it floating around the threads. Also, i've had prl updates hang as well just check under phone status in settings if it changed. Even when it has hung on me it properly updated and showed whatever I was changing to.

this happens to me a lot...i have calibrated a few times and it always happens...it usually happens after i dip below 70 percent in battery life..when i reboot, it can say 8 % or worse.and sometimes gets stuck at at a specific battery for a while and reboot sometimes brings it back to the normal battery level..i mentioned this before in a thread but I haven't found a solution...so i barely reboot my phone unless i need to backup in clockwork or flash something
Oh man. I reboot my phone once a day to flush the RAM and keep the system fresh.
I rebooted in CWM to reset the battery stats, btw, and when I hit the "reboot phone" command, it rebooted into CWM 3.0.2.5 (I'm running the latest 3.1.0.1), which was jarring. Before that, after leaving it on charger for less than an hour, it jumped back up to about 57% and charged to full in another hour or so. Unfortunately, the batt. reported a full charge at 93%. I bump charged it up to 94%, but I ultimately decided to reset the stats just the same.
Are these known symptoms of something, or just hiccups?
I have had this issue as well. I believe it to be a calibration issue. I swap three different batteries so I attribute it to the different ones.
Strange thing happened the other day, my phone was at 22% or so and then all of a sudden just shut off. I switched batteries and it was fine, but strange.

Has anyone else noticed this. I will be using my phone and toward the end of the day it has about 40% left. It has that much since I usually leave the data network off unless I need it. I reboot it and it now says it is very low on battery I lose basically 35%. Any help appreciated other than don't turn off/reboot my phone until it is time to charge it overnight.
It's an extremely well known issue, that (so far) has no solution.
Does it happen with the other vesion of the syindicate rom non full?
Happened to me when I would reboot with the stock rom.
I just assumed it takes a lot of power to turn on and off.
Been an issue for me since day one. Hell it just happened to me awhile ago. I rebooted the phone with 46 percent battery than once rebooted showed 6 percent. Kinda gotten used to it but like stated above its an issue that apparently has no solution. Especially when flashing something through clockwork, it really drains the battery fast. Been an issue for me since 2.1 and all roms I have tried. Pretty sure its a hardware thing.

rebooting the phone is not going to use upwards of 30% of your battery, nor would flashing a ROM. If that were the case, your phone would heat up to ridiculous levels and your battery would probably explode with that kind of output
The problem is most likely coming from miscalculation of the true battery level (which has been well documented in other threads on xda), which is rechecked during the boot process, and corrected. I've noticed that if my phone has gone long periods of time without a reboot, that this behavior happens. If you reboot your phone once every few days, it rarely happens, and if so, it's not nearly as drastic of a drop.
So I've been dealing w/ this little issue for the past few months where I can tell that the battery meter isn't reading correctly when the battery starts getting super laggy, slow to respond to inputs, etc. I've also experienced the same issues that I've read about here on the forums where after resetting the phone, I get drastic changes in before and after readings.
Just today I decided to search for the process to properly recalibrate the battery stats...jesus christ, there are opinions everywhere! Out of all the ones I've read, I've never understood the repeated charging and depleting cycle, THEN resetting the battery stats. Isn't the purpose of the battery stats to teach it to learn how to use the battery, so why wouldn't we be resetting the stats from either a completely dead or completely charged battery, then doing the power or draining cycles a few times?
Either way, I completely killed the battery lastnight, reset the stats and charged it w/ the phone on but in airplane mode. Unplugged for a moment, plugged it back in, LED went from red to blue within a few minutes. Did it one more time since I read random suggestions about "boosting" the battery like this. I then powered the phone off and did the same thing. During use today, the meter has been steadily dropping, maybe even a little faster than I'd expected, but I chalked it up to the phone learning.
Now the issue I'm having it that the phone froze about three times after doing the resetting and charging. Now mind you, this has happened before immediately after I flashed Syndicate w/o even touching the battery stats before or after a fresh ROM/Kernal installation, so I'm not goint to immediately assume it's because I may have done the battery stats steps incorrectly. At this point, I just want a truely accurate reading...none of the sluggishness when it says 29% then resetting takes it to 9% and the screen goes dim, the freezing the phone gets when it goes below 15%, etc.
There must be one, solid, concrete way to do this battery meter thing that doesn't involve everyone getting into a pissing contest about who is right, who is wrong, getting into a long speech about lithium battery blah blah blah. I just want a meter that reads accurately, period.
I agree. I have heard several methods to calibrate a battery but not one concrete method. I have read that its bad to run a Lithium ION battery all of the way down. Then I read that its the best way to condition the battery. Anyone with the proper method to calibrate the battery and make the reading the most accurate will get some "thanks" from me.

While I can't say the meter was dead accurate when stock, at least it doesn't give me the issues I've been experiencing. There must be a way to find out how Sammy does it.
I find that the charge to 100 on, unplug, charge to 100 off, unplug, charge to 100 on, then turn of and clear battery stats from cwm works. I have no logical explanation why but i notice a significant battery boost and fture efficiency. Only reason it gets screwed up is flashing something new, but when I redo the process I get the same battery efficiency back. Also make sure any flashes don't activate syncing. I flashed something that turned mail syncing on and it was killing my battery.
My opinion on the whole battery deal is do nothing. These are lithium ion batteries, they have no "memory" effect. About the only way you can hurt them is to deep discharge them repeatedly or overcharge repeatedly. I don't feel there is a need to fully cycle 100%-0%-100%. Or charge off, then on, then unplug, blah blah blah... That probably just overcharges the battery anyway.
A while back I tried monkeying around with all those tips and tricks people post, didn't seem to do anything for my life. After a week or so of normal use the phone seems to learn your battery anyway. I say just let the phone do its thing, spend your time playing with cool apps or something.
No offense Insanity, but did you even read my post or know what batter stats does? I know Li batteries don't have a memory, its been stated before in nasseum. Battery stats is an application that tells or phones how to properly read the charge/discharge rate of the battery. Please don't take this thread down the "memory" blah blah blah road, because that's not the issue here. My battery is perfectly fine, I'm trying to find out an unbiased, educated, personal-opinionless and concrete way that battery stats need to be programmed, ie the way Sammy does it since I didn't have this problem until I started flashing roms.
All I'm saying is don't do anything, the phone will learn. When I stopped clearing battery stats every time I thought there was a problem I stopped having drastic drops in my battery meter after rebooting like some people have run into.
I haven't cleared battery stats in months now, my battery life is great and my phone doesn't lose mass amounts of battery randomly on reboot.
I also stated in my OP that I've been on this rom for a few months, if not even longer since I've been bouncing back and forth between Syndicate and Bonzai. Point is, months later I'm still having the issue, so clearly something isn't calibrating correctly, hence my creation of this thread.
Even if the battery stats are wrong/improperly calibrated/whatever you would call it I don't see how that would lead to lockups. Are you getting FCs at all? Maybe there's some data corruption at play? Is your filesystem journaled? When the phone locks up are you able to logcat?
The lockups I'm referring to only happen after I reset the battery stats, then it stops after a day or so or charging and discharging...it just never reads the battery correctly even after repeated usage. No FC's, phone just locks and a battery pull is the only way to stop it, journaling is on because the risk of FC's isn't work the slight speed increase and I honestly have no clue about how to check and/or post logcats.

Make sure debug mode is enabled on your phone before it locks. When it locks plug your phone into your PC. Try from a DOS prompt inside a directory with the adb executable:
adb logcat > filename.txt
Let it run for a minute or so then ctrl-c to break out of it. If the phone is in fact completely locked it won't work, but its worth a shot to try to get a behind the scenes look at what's going on when your phone pukes. If you notice it lagging or something that makes you think its about to puke, try to get a logcat of that too. Use different file names when you logcat so you don't overwrite the old one.
issues with battery meter
Ive had the same exact problem. Its been fine since september when i got the phoen and even through flashing the phone. Everynow and again it will have a large drop after flashing but i typically have written that off as the power it takes to flash. Now after ec05 and this gingerbread leak, may battery stats is unreliable. It will stay at a certain percent until my battery dies. At any given moment i never know how much battery is left.
I'm beginning to wonder if my battery is borked for my phone. I've done every single thing out there to ensure my battery was always 100% charged and calibrated.
However, today my phone read as being 100%. Went home, charged it up when the phone was powered off to make sure it actually did get to 100%. It did that, all was fine, or so I thought. A bit later, I check my phone and it's reading 72%.
There is no way this is normal for a battery. My phone has been dropped a couple times (mild drops, not huge ones), so wondering if it's possible a cell in the battery has been borked?
Had it been calibrated?

I said it in my first post.
What ROM? Did you look at it when you removed the charger? Did it still say 100%? Was it warm when you picked it up? Did you have signal? Did you install any new apps? Did you just reboot? Did you have a random reboot?
Don't sweat it, charge it and check it again.
No ROM, just a regular Gingerbread shoved through Odin, along with CWM purple.
The phone was 100% before I put it on the charger. I only checked the phone when I heard it doing the signal lost/found noise, and that's when I saw it went down dramatically (there is NO way that attempting to find a signal can lose battery power by 28% in 30 minutes).
Phone was not warm at all.
I have about 2 bars of signal.
I have not installed any new apps.
I did not reboot.
I never have random reboots (it's a reason why I don't mess with the Gingerbread ROMs).
I'm not sweating this, I'm more annoyed. And, all people do is say "Charge it, do this and that to calibrate, turn off phone, charge it again, reset battery stats, spin it 360 degrees, read it a bed time story...." But it simply doesn't fix it some times.
Wouldn't this point towards a faulty cell in the battery?

Look at your percentage when you pull it off charge. There is a bug in the Gingerbread leaks that kills the bump charging. So while it says 100% while connected, at that time it continues to run at 100 Mhz but not charging actually killing your battery. So you can go back to EC05 stock and see if it still does it to be sure. Assuming you did reset the battery stats already with that bed time story...LOL.
I see Spare Parts has a "battery condition" category. Can anyone verify its accuracy?
After I finished charging my tablet to 100% today, I set it down and went on with my tasks for the day. Checking it here and there, I didn't realize until now that the battery has remained at 100% for the past six hours. I have tried powering down and booting back up as well as plugging the tablet in briefly.
Both the battery menu and Dashclock display "Not charging" instead of "Discharging." When I plug the tablet in, it immediately tells me that it is fully charged.
So needless to say, I'm looking for a solution, preferably simple. Factory reset is a last resort. I'm running an unlocked and rooted Nexus 7 (2013) with stock 4.3, so no third-party ROMs or kernels messing with the battery.
This issue is ironic because I was pretty close to fully-charged last night (80-90%) and when I woke up, I was at ~50% and the battery menu displaying that "Android OS" was hogging 50% of my battery usage. Normally screen comes out on top. I attributed this to my home Wi-Fi router's flakiness, rebooted the router, and the tablet seemed to restore to the correct battery usage levels.
this actually happened to me the other day. left the n7 on the wireless charger overnight and woke up to battery stuck at 100%. at first I thought I was getting some stupid crazy awesome battery life, but then realized it was just stuck.
i did a factory reset to "fix it"...
Nexus 7 1st gen had that same issue. Mine resolves itself after a few charge cycles. Basically the % just gets pinned @ 100% and starts draining down when in reality the tablet might be ~70-80%. Just keep using it and it'll drop. Problem is, since the calibration is off, using it while you have this issue to ~20-30% may cause it to run out of juice and shut off on you since in reality it would be 0%. So I'd use it down a lil bit and put it back on the charger. I just didn't think the new one would have the same problem :\
Have you tried booting into the recovery to see if the battery percent is correctly displayed there?
I ended up booting into TWRP, where the battery displayed as 100%. It may have just been some sweet battery life, but it actually seems like it was stuck, or at least discharging at a very slow rate. Down to 87% currently, so it was fixed after I booted into recovery. Thankfully, just a hiccup and no factory reset necessary.
Experienced another random reboot today, but lucky me, I get to save that for another thread!

So this has become a common problem for me now. every time i fully charge the N7 and leave it plugged in the battery percentage gets stuck. rebooting in recovery gets it unstuck but throws off the calibration/percentage.
Hey guys, I've had my phone for 4 or so months now and I always charge it while my phone is off and never had any charging/battery issues until today, I decided to charge my phone while it's on and it charged up to 25% and I restarted my phone without removing it from the charger and after it booted back it it's showing 50%, I restarted a few times, tried a cold boot, it's still 50%.
Is this a known issue with this phone? does anyone know what's causing this? I've never had this happen before.
EDIT: After this happened I ran my battery to 0% so I can attempt a battery calibration and when I poped it on the charger it showed my battery was actually 0% and showed a yellow hazard triangle thing (normally it only drops to 1% and there has never been a yellow triangle before)

I would not worry about it too much if it only happened to you once. If in continues you to jump around in battery percentage, then I would suggest getting a replacement battery. Keep in mind to try not to leave it charging for very long after reaching 100%, from my experience it can effect a battery's ability to hold a charge if that is done repeatedly. Which means do not leave it charging overnight while you are sleeping. Also I would not suggest running it until 0%, I would imagine a sudden shut down of the Android Operating system is not a healthy thing for it either. Just like it is not good to go up to a computer and just pull the power cord.

I never leave my phone on the charger while I sleep since it only drops 1% while I sleep. My phone actually only goes on the charger like 3 times a month
I know it's not good to fully drain the battery very much, I was just draining it to attempt a battery calibration in the os. And when I do this my phone usually only drops to 1% then dies, but all of a sudden it dropped to 0% this time and showed a big yellow triangle with a big exclamation mark in it
Anyways I reflashed my rom in hopes I can flush the problem out. In 4 months of owning this phone I've never seen this warning before.
This is almost exactly what happened with my old phone (Samsung Captivate Glide). If this continues to happen, it is one of the first signs of the battery failing. But if this is a one time thing, I wouldn't worry about it.
In my case, the battery was going bad. It started going from any % battery, down to 0 instantly, forcing a shutdown. After rebooting, It would show a decent charge (~60% most of the time), but would do the same thing within 5 minutes. At first it only acted up like this once a month, but it became more and more frequent that it happened every day, after using the phone for only 15 minutes. The only fix is to get a replacement battery.

tyvm, This is extremely helpful info to keep in mind. Now that you mention it I have seen the battery kinda swollen up a couple times when it got hot, only ever so slightly but I did notice it.
If my issue persists i'll defnitly try a new battery, thanks for the tip
