I've been following the xda wiki how to root g1. I've followed every direction to the word.
In telnet I can get it to work all the way up to 4th command line
Cat recovery.img >/system/recovery.img
After entering command I get
Cannot create /system/recovery.img read only file or something like that
Any help wpould be much apprecitated.
Don't hate me cause of my noobish ways
fixed one problem only to lead to another. no > just a space now when i enter the command line
car recovery-.img /system/recovery-RA-dream-v1.6.2-green.img
it scrolls alot of code to only say that the directory recovery-RA-dream-v1.6.2-green.img doesn' exsit wtf?

I have a doubt: it would be possible to remove (uninstall) native applications of Desire?
What is the most appropriate way to do this?
I ask because ja had a motorola milestone and it managed to remove many native applications as the launcher, the music player, etc!
What do I need to do and which path to take to achieve this feat! Agradeceria if any of you, more experienced could help me, indicating the best way!

Moved to Q&A as not development.
You can remove apks from /system/app, though I am not an expert on the desire. It's possible, perhaps someone can help with the specifics here.

I wonder if it is possible this procedure ja with Rom installed if having to another in order to withdraw flashear these applications!

But if i get you right, you want to remove some of the native apps. These are stored on the /system partition. If you want to remove some of those, you will first have to root your phone. Then you can remove them while in recovery mode using adb commands.
This might seem a bit difficult, but if you are rooted, i can easily guide you through it. Another way, if you are rooted is to install the new s-off hboot which will allow you to make the changes using root explorer

Yes my Desire is totally root and could you please explain to me how to proceed in case extrans ABD to remove applications?
Know the method S-Off AlphaRev site, but I have to confess I didn't understand a lot about it, could tell me how to do this procedure correctly for non brickar my player?

Hehe great to hear it worked out for you It was probably also easier to go the s-off road right away. Issuing adb commands is a bit more difficult.

If you want to remove apps after you have flashed the ROM you can boot into recovery mode, connect device to pc in debug mode and use adb:
adb shell remount /system/
adb shell cd /system/app
adb shell ls
adb shell rm [application name.apk]
Blame me if I'm wrong, sending from my phone so I can't check atm.

I never used root manager but I suppose it's the same as root explorer.
But it can indeed remove files from your system, sometimes need to reboot system afterwards to see the effect. It's a paid app.

Thanks for the explanation friend, why I can't change the bootanimation my Desire!!!
The paths that follow to try to change the bootanimation on my Desire were as follows: With the Root Explorer threw the image date/location and nothing!
After reading lots found a different way to play the file bootanimation that was as follows: System/media nor gave nothing!
Have any tips of where it could be this file bootanimation so I can make the procedure and get definitely?

HTC Desire USB Bricked Without Root
Hey guys, got a really tricky one for you here...
Some people may have seen a thread I posted the other day about problems that had arisen with my HTC Desire, well I have managed to find out that these problems are being caused by a USB Brick.
As of now I have managed to restore SD Functions however my phone will still not connect to the computer, and the phone won't recieve a network signal from Orange.
I read through this tutorial here and also this one here. My problem is, all the requirements of the fix, my device does not meet. My phone is not rooted, it is running the latest software and has the latest HBoot.
I also found this that looked very promising, however when I tried to log into my Google account on my phone, everytime it said it couldn't make a connection, I left it for a few hours and the same thing, I can't help but think this is due to the USB brick?
I just really need some help, is there anything I can do to restore USB functionality? The phone is being sent to HTC tomorrow, however I can cancel at any point. Please, I know there are so many amazing people on XDA that can help me. Thankyou
*UPDATE* - After using the Fastboot code to enable the SD Card, my Sim Card is now working. I have been able to log into my G-Mail account and download the terminal emulator which is an apparent fix in one of the posts I linked above, however this doesn't work. Please can someone help me

I have done a factory reset, re-installed the PB99IMG and also flashed an RRU. All the problems persist

If I understand well, you have got an USB brick, and your current situation is the following :
No S-OFF hboot, no ROOTED ROM, but SDCard reenabled, thanks to "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" command in fastboot mode.
I'll try to drive you through the whole process for getting your phone back, since I've already encoutered this situation, and successfully solved it.
First step => Get a 'mtd0.img' file :
Go to "Menu>Settings>About phone>Software information>Kernel version", and write down your ROM version (2.6.32.15, for example)
Then, in fastboot mode, with USB cable connected to your PC, issue the following command
Code:
fastboot getvar cid
You should see your phone's CID, something like 'HTC__022'.
You then go to this site, provide both information 'cid' and 'rom version', and you'll get a 'mtd0.img' file.
Let me know when you've gone through this first step

I already tried this process, it didn't work, when I did the RageAgainstTheCage command, it said searching for ADB, then something about not being able to find it, then when I restart the terminal and do the final command, it says permission denied -_-

In order for rageagainstthecage to find adb process, you should tick 'USB debugging' in "Menu>Settings>Applications>Development>"

i have got to the point of installing terminal emulator but at the point of issuing second cat command it says no such file or directory..

I found a way around this, as I was having the same problem. Try This ->
cat /sdcard/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin > data/data/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
Do that for the two other commands that follow that, then follow the instructions as given, that should work.

ok, so i did that, no longer got errors.. seemed to work but after reboot still the same, doesnt connect to my pc, and device manager it is still being shown as 'qualcomm cdma technologies msm' in other devices!
is the purpose of those commands to moved the files to certain directory? i can get temp root with visionary to perhaps just move the files in root explorer?

You mean creating the mtd from that site? Thats because you need to type the Build Number not the kernel version.
hi my htc desire keeps restarting when i flash any gingerbread miui rom i have tired data2ext and a2sd and have wiped and also formated my sdcard and stil have same problem with both but it works fine with all other roms and the froyo version of miui. please help

hi im using normal hboot-0.93.0001 i used unrevoked to root my phone i am not really a noob i have flashed and rooted many phones but for some strange reason all other roms including miui froyo work on my phone but gingerbread miui wont it loads up to the home screen and then just reboots ive tried data2et version and a2sd version and same thing happens with both versions.i have also tried using diffrent recoverys amon-ra,clockwork etc and still get the same problem.
You need to understand what is going on under the hood.. Getting an adb logcat is the way to go..

Use Notepad++ to associate with the txt file and reload the file every couple of seconds while keeping the cmd shell in the background.. See what's happening just before it reboots. It could be anything from a bad script to a bad module
Have you tried gingerbread 2.8, its simple and a very plain ROM, I have had issues with miui roms with my desire, if that doesn't work I will keep looking my self, sorry I'm not very insightful, you have an odd problem.

Once you open a command line prompt in the folder where adb is installed (or anywhere else, if the file adb.exe is in your Windows path variable-Dont worry about that if you dont know), you can directly type each line of the commands starting from step 2.
Before that, install Notepad+, and associate .txt file to open with it by default..
By the way, you have to start typing those commands directly after rebooting from recovery after installing the Rom..
hi droidzone i have installed notepad++ but dont understand how to install Notepad+, and associate .txt file to open with it by default. also my adb is located in c:\androidsdk\tools that is what i type in cmd to get adb working and if i type adb devices it shows my device.also i typed the commands u gave me once in adb and it says "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

Hmm.. I seem to be offering more Windows support than Android!
I meant Notepad+. Hold Shift, rightclick any text file, Choose Open with Notepad+ as default. You can go to your adb folder like you normally do and then type each line I posted and hit Enter after each time. You can also make a batch file with all those commands (search Google for that if you dont know how)

Hmm yes, that can happen if you have more than one adb.exe process running in the background because you exited it by closing the command shell with the close button instead of typing

after done with it.
Use Ctrl+Alt+Del or Process Explorer to terminate the background adb.exe processes
Hi guys I have been trying to unlock my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 for some time now with no luck. I have tried two (samsung unlock and the xda) methods and both has failed. There is a problem generating the codes. Maybe I did too much flashing in the begining I don`t know . Can anyone help me with this please? I have added a jpeg to see if that helps.

I unlocked my SGS by using an app called Galaxy_S unlock by Helroz from the play store.
If it doesn't work try downgrading to froyo as I unlocked mine when I was on 2.2.

It seems you have adb.exe tool already installed but you get error because you do not have enough rights on your phone so get the rights by these lines..
by terminal here I mean cmd.exe from Windows
so enter cmd Start/Run/cmd.exe
then to start adb server enter this

adb devices
then in cmd enter
"adb shell" press Enter (in fact this is "terminal" - a way to get access on your phone and enter commands)

Wow it is not easy to get past this image verification at all. Anywho............ So I have properly installed the SDK and I also installed a stock rom (I9000XXJP2) and rooted it and Now I get this result displayed in the attached pic. I have tried to follow the instructions given by ruscan.calin (and thanks for the "look here for a tutorial to unlock your phone" link) but I again I am back at a dead end.

It seems you are the right way now you have an unlocked nv_data.bin
replace on phone and give rights follow that tutor
I can help you but give me more details because I don't have this phone

I installed the SDK and put in the path for the ADB folder. Then I installed a stock rom (I9000XXJP2) and rooted it although I think I did not have to root it. I then used the "Generate_Code" script from XDA. But I still don`t get the NCK and Freeze codes. Should I try another rom?

root is very important if not you can not play with nv_data.bin file...
what link ? and how did you do what steps I can't guess show me some logs screenshots anyway more info !

After I have followed the instructions up to "steps 4" I am not sure what I should do for steps 5,6, and 7. I don`t know where "the main Samsung Galaxy S Unlocker" is. I included two pics of tmy adb shell (adb pull /efs/nv_data.bin)
I also copied an efs folder from my phone onto my pc.

My sincere apologies to you my friend. I was able to unlocked my SGS after I followed your advice of downgrading to froyo and then I continued with the tutorial I got through Member ruscan.calin. So excess amount of thanks to you both. I will make sure to properly BACKUP my SGS3 before I touch it. I have learnt my lesson. Thanks again.
