Mango Fast App Switching - Windows Phone 7 General

Has anyone noticed that when you switch to a different application it completely resets that app?
1. Open Twitter then close
2. Open email client
3. Press & hold back button to navigate back to Twitter
4. Black screen flashes and then "resuming..."
Is there a code snippet that just needs to be included to fix this behavior? I have not yet gone through the Mango training course but hopefully that's the case.

The application project has to be changed to a 7.1 project and recompiled.
If it hasn't been updated to a Mango application as above, then it won't be using the new features.
I don't think MS is allowing Mango application submissions yet.

Yup. As andrmgic stated, its something that just requires it to be recompiled with the 7.1 SDK for mango. Its not additional coding or anything so its very easy for developers to address.
But they will also need to wait for the ability to submit those changed apps, which wont happen for a couple months.

But it is fairly easy to add. So I imagine we will just see a ton of app updates come out right before Mango is officially released.

I don't see "resuming..." when I go back to an app. I even tried openning 3 games and returning to them was instantaneous. Maybe it's because I had dehydration hack enabled on NoDo?

Wait, I was under the impression the Mango update was a full reflash of the handset. In that case those registry hacks should be wiped out, but maybe I'm wrong. I have a few apps in 7.0 development; can't wait to switch over to 7.1 and implement these new features.

Nah, all my info was there after the update. That's why some people are having issues if they had reg hacks before the update.

Interesting. Don't think I'll go back to nodo to apply a few tweaks though. Thanks given all around.

I had the dehydration hack enabled and I now have fast app switching on all apps including games.
I am so glad I had that hack enabled before the update, as its a great experience switching between apps now I can be playing a game, then go check on facebook, then hold the back key and get straight back into my game where I left off, no resuming necessary.

OH! I was wondering about this becuase fast app switching works really well for me. I do not get a resuming screen at all for example playing angry birds and switching to facebook is near instant!
Some apps dont work well this way though, the xda app for one crashes and rowi has trouble resuming.

Aw man..that's great news then. It would be nice if I could edit the registry after the fact. I'd hate to re-download everything and get my tiles and everything setup just how I like them. Plus, my FB chat finally works!

A good reason not to upgrade to the new Market in Froyo

Market filters:
When a user searches or browses in Android Market, the results are filtered, and some applications might not be visible. For example, if an application requires a trackball (as specified in the manifest file), then Android Market will not show the app on any device that does not have a trackball.
The manifest file and the device's hardware and features are only part of how applications are filtered — filtering also depends on the country and carrier, the presence or absence of a SIM card, and other factors.
Changes to the Android Market filters are independent of changes to the Android platform itself. This document will be updated periodically to reflect any changes that occur.

Not being able to get apps? Did you read the link? Doubtful. Uh sure. Have fun with vanilla 2.2 and 0.0 apps.
I'm sorry, did you read your own link? If you had scrolled down, it shows several examples of what can be filtered. The filters are implemented by the application developer themselves, and if they don't, they still show up in the market.
Besides, filtering by the application has been in Android since 2.0. Any application that deems a device incapable of running it (for example, a lack of a light sensor) can stop itself from running.
some kind of filter (the ones I've heard of so far are incompatible screen resolution, unverified builds, and protected apps) is already being applied to 2.1 in the AOSP build. I couldnt see Yelp, the Android Community and TMZ apps for whatever reason

Oh yeah, how suspicious. French people couldn't possibly prefer apps in French and people with that new Dell pad thing probably still want SMS and contact apps.
Yeah
so you are saying not upgrade to 2.2 because marketplace will filter apps for our phone, but stick with 2.1 because it doesn't?
well genius, why don't you go and install http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.yelp.android on your phone and let us know how that 'no filtering' works out for you.
When I was running my Vougue we ran into this problem as well, its not a big deal at all. from what I remember it was checking about the build.prob and screen size that is setup in your startup. what I used to do was set my phone to my the specs for the G1, then install the apps after adjusting the density to fit everything on screen and then reboot using factory startup. it worked pretty well for most of the apps since many only blocked off whatever border the developer had.
heres the problem though but with the pace we are going it wont come up for a while, once we decide we have a rom stable enough to flash we lost the abilty to change the settings since WM is copletely gone and no haret was used. I switched over to the Touch Pro and we had the exact same problem which was solved in the EXACT way but we were not flashed still(TP2 still has a LOOOONG way to go sad to say), kept the touch pro 2 for only a few weeks before they replaced my Sprint Line TP with a Touch pro 2 due to all the TP1 problems and i'm still saddened by the slow progress. I am a developer myself and even an avid budsmoker and was still able to help out. now Refer has done a great job but from my understanding he is just doing most changes to the Android Filesystem, theirs a couple other guys working on the kernels which would be were all the hardware problems are going to be fixed from. no matter what build we use something in the kernel is either not right, or we dont have the driver in place for Android itself and since we have few Hardware level developers working on these things it seems to be low progress.

I'd be curious to know whether the thing that occurred with JPC on sim locked phones is still happening with this firmware - the product code changing and the phone asking for a network code. I really don't want to root my phone and go through the file copying again - I like it nice and stock-y.

If you pinch-zoom in the applications menu this is now smooth =)
edit:
That was only true until I installed apps and had 5 pages of apps
First impressions best 2.2 out there at the moment. No lag, very responsive mind you not downloaded many apps at the moment. No market missing apps.
I find 2.2 is hardly as exciting as what people make it out to be.

JPH After 3 Hours Review:
Zero issues so far for me. I'm using the APK lagfix. Everything is nice and snappy (with and without the lagfix, although the lagfix seems to makes it better).
GPS seems to get an accurate lock very quickly indoors. (Started up maps, it found the nearest cellphone tower instantly with a 1km radius or something, then found my location perfectly after ~6 seconds. Going to street view once it had my location took my directly outside my house. Not the best GPS test ever, but it worked as well as any other GPS I've ever seen for that simple task.)
Compass seems to be as flaky as ever. This might be a hardware problem with my phone though, since the compass has always been flaky.
Blacks in videos seem as good as ever, and it played a few video files I gave it without issues.
Google market worked without issue, and wifi/hsdpa worked well. No issues with sdcards or anything like that either.
Internet browser is the best I've seen it, with flashing loading and playing smoothly without affecting speed on the rest of the page. Full page engadget with flash ads along the top and right side scrolled very smoothly after loading fully.
Games work the same that they've always worked (zero change, there aren't any games out that tax the GPU yet.)
I'll post a further review after using it for 24 hours or so.
Sorry to disturb your happyness and the overall enthusiasm
But.
Similar to JPC there is still an great Problem or Bug.
As JPC, JPH also dont sync tasks and appointments that are created with another app than the built in stock calendar
This is (for me, and for everyone who want to use the Galaxy seriously for Buisiness and Task planning) an absolutely bad behaviour.
I use Jorte and at first Quick Addroid for adding and editing Tasks. Because the Stock Calendar is to poor in Functionality and not very comfortable.
So if i add an Task with e.g. Quick Addroid, it appears in Device in all installed Calendar apps but is not synced with Google.
If i then edit and save it in Stock Calendar, then it will be synced.
Maybe, it belongs to changes in the code in Froyo, that ar not compatible with not samsung apps. Maybe the programmers have to fix it in their Software.
But also maybe that it is an Bug and Samsung have to fix this.

To be honest, I doubt this is a dealbreaker for 99% of people.
I think it would be classed as a 'minor annoyance'! As far as I know, syncing (google integration in general) has changed a bit in 2.2, so it's probably the app that has to be updated. I could be way off here though.
Scrolling trough the Touchwiz icons in the menu is very sluggish here. Eclair was way smoother. Is just me?

Well...then , not worth upgrading from JM8 , i guess
Uhhh, theres also problem with compass and calibration. Every phone restart they are changing to default which is bad and compass after reboot always shows that theres wrong magnetic field and it shows wrong directions.

We all know the apps downloaded from the market are slow and choppy when compared to the rest of the OS. Start up times are horrible. Does anyone know if this issue has any plans to be resolved?

Scrolling in market apps is nowhere near as smooth as native apps on the phone. Opening a market app takes ages when compared to say "people, messages, email, calendar etc".
Can you tell me of a market app that performs like a native app? Coming from Android the market apps performed very quickly with the same scrolling experience elsewhere in the OS. I assume this will be resolved in WP7 with future updates and as developers update their apps.

yomomedia works very well, no lag on scrolling and opens/ responds quickly.
i would agree, it's because most of the programming (done by the app programmer) isn't optimised causing the issues. not to say silverlight is either as it's really just ported from the desktop, but there are a few apps in there that qork quite well.
also the type of memory is a killer too. samsung and LG went for NAND where as HTC took the cheap route and went for microSD (though i don't know if it's actually much cheaper). NAND loads apps up a lot faster than microSD does.
Honestly, I think there is a major issue here and I hope Microsoft reconsiders letting people use native code. I wish people would stop acting like this isn't an issue.
I'm sure there are optimizations to be made, but there is a noticeable difference in performance between native apps and silverlight apps. Some of it really just seems inherent to the controls. Load up a bing map in the yelp app and attempt to interact with it, the difference is night and day. Swipe up and down in any list in a silverlight app, it lags.
i'm going to have to disagree. whilst i use most of my apps, i don't notice any lag in scrolling. most of the lag people are talking about is upon boot up (which actually could be set by the developer for their "splash screen", or they've programmed it so that it loads all the data into the whole view in one hit (e.g. facebook) causing it to seem a little laggy on loading. if you look at Youtube app by HTC, they only load data as you view that panorama item so it's a lot quicker and you don't notice the lag at all. though this might be a bad example as HTC could be using native code as they have permission to. however, there are other apps out that i use which don't lag after initial launch, jumping between screens is fine.
if you notice any lag in the scrolling (such as in the market place) its because they're trying to load the next set of apps under the list when you're about to reach the bottom, causing it to lag. though in saying that, even MS could do their programming properly so that it doesn't hang the list.
the app market is slow, sucks and crashes one too many times. stop being a fanboi and join us in urging MS to make it better. It's not "fine" and we are not using it incorrectly. it's slow

Ok, let me rephrase that a bit. App works fine, but what annoys me is the lack of the fluid experience as opposed as the rest of the os. The start panoramic hub in flixter is really choppy compared to the one in AP Press, even when fully loaded. Once i go deeper in the app it seems to perform as expected

But it's not an issue. Yes, certain apps do perform badly, but it's all down to how the developers have written their app.
Using native code would not necessarily fix these issues as you could quite easily write wrong code even then.
In the end it all comes down to the fact that the platform is still fairly new and developers are not yet used to working on it - a lot of developers don't seem to understand that loading [slow] data on the UI thread is bad, others will load up all the data they need before displaying the UI rather than displaying the UI and then loading the data.
There's an update to the Facebook app available today, seems to start a lot quicker and is a bit smoother in use. Also now supports Places and tagging in photos.

Since it is still not my main device but is heavily used, yes, the OS seems superstable and almost trouble free.
Scrolling/swiping is not the problem as it is somehow cached. Problem is loading time and general code execution. It IS slow, it feels, it makes you stop for a second or two, it cuts the fluid experience you could have possibly been accustomed to by using the native apps UI. Of course you will not notice it on a "tip calculator" app or such, but yes on a more sophisticated and fully featured app.
MS must add this to the OS optimization list...
My main gripe with Marketplace is that it regularly crashes every few days.
Mine always crashes if I browse the marketplace for too long ><. This is on the Omnia 7. Once It crashes, it goes to the home screen, but reopening the marketplace just goes blank for a while before returning to the home screen. Only fix for this is a restart.
With the way WP manages memory in the upcoming update, I'm hoping it improves the marketplace app considerably.

Froyo 2.2.2 UK Retail Issues

I will update this thread as I found issues.
1. Middle of downloads the phone turned off and refused to switch on. Taking the battery out enabled restarting the phone again.
2. Despite of master reset/factory reset the phone is really laggy. Freezing applications made Defy very responsive but under 2.2.2 it appears no difference at all. (Second factory reset seems brought back somme life to my phone now...)
3. Definitely something is causing an annoying delay at startup even though the phone appears to be ready to use.
4. I have noticed once after a restart the capacitive buttons didn't light up for 1-2 minutes even though I was using the phone. The LauncherPro is installed and I'm suspecting that is the culprit here.
5. Once a number is dialed the phone locks itself. This is rather inconvenience when you need immediately use the key pad to select options. (20 June 2011)
Guidelines - 20 June 2011
I decided to write a guideline for Defy users. The information provided here have already been mentioned by others but normally not in one place. Please follow the steps below every time you flash a new ROM.
1. Master Reset (Whether you like this step or not this is required to do. Imagine upgrading a windows machine, it would be simply a mess in most cases. Any pro users would tell you always to do a clearn install. The same principle with Android applies)
2. Discharge the battery (It seems flashing a ROM messes up the battery calibration. Drain the battery to the point it won't boot then recharge it from the wall socket)
3. Avoid Restoring Apps (Only if is a must. Since Android 2.2 is different to 2.1 many apps might not work very well with the same settings restored from 2.1. Some vendors also offer different version for Android 2.2 or higher. Installing from market is best practice)
4. Avoid using widgets (They are simply battery eaters. Avoid them if they don't provide useful functionality to you)
5. Don't trust all vendors (Many apps placed on Android Market is written by programmers with no experience at all. A badly written app not only drains more battery but also takes up more precious RAM than it should. The less RAM you have, the slower the phone performs)
6. Don't keep large number of emails in your inboxes (They simply take up more memory)
7. Charge your mobile from wall socket when you can. It really does make a difference and also a recommended method by Motorola.
8. Put the Mobile Network to 2G when you can. It does save considerable amount of battery.
9. Switch off the phone once per day for 30 seconds before switching it on again.
Any chance to get hands on SBF for this release

That will get you the motorola update software.
During the update the .sbf is downloaded. We need to get the sbf, however it is deleted once the update has finished. I think this happens when the motorola software asks to "reboot phone, connect usb and verify update".
Please, if anyone does the update make sure to find the .sbf file and copy it somewhere safe before the update is verified. Then post to xda of course

Thanks for that. I can actually reconfirm the issue. Last night when I was setting my alarm, with no lights in the room, I noticed once again the capacitive buttons' led were off. I was helding the phone in portrait and I know for sure this problem wasn't there in 2.1 because I always set my alarm after I turn the lights off (Bedroom's). When I press the Home Key to come out of the Alarm app the capacitive buttons lit up again.

If the msu is compiled by Motorola then I'm sure you won't be able to upgrade. The .msu can contain many other smaller installers that can do all the checking, exactly the way the update program does. Your only solutuion is to revert back to Motorola's stock ROM and give it a try.
Two more very annoying Defy/Froyo issues:
1) You can't disable the lockscreen anymore, so prepare for a lot of annoying swiping. Yes, you can get rid of the slider with an app called "No Lock," but this will also disable your security lock (pin code or pattern) which leaves your phone wide open.
2) The new gallery has more eye candy but less functionality, and it got slower too. If you open the folder list you can't read long folder names anymore. Is there is a way to run the old 2.1 gallery on Froyo?
I found the gallery the worst bit. So poor, I can't believe they let it go out like that. Runs like a dog.
I feel embarrassed for Motorola. Or I would if they were not working hard every day making their great hardware under-perform!
Seriously what a phone once CM is on it!

As far as I'm concerned Motorola has degraded the phone and I'm not too sure if that is legal or not. I'm referring to the apps Motorola developed such as the video player and the gallery that you pointed out, not the Android itself. The additional Task Manager that was shipped with 2.1 in US is a welcome.
I have found my defy is performing slower, unless those claim Defy performs better with Android 2.2 has some settings that I don't. I ended up installing SetVSel to speed thigns up. It seems to me I'm getting 1/4 less juice out of my battery. I can reconfirm it once I play music on it for a couple of hours.
Not wanting to sound negative all the time, here are some positive things I found so far. I'm very happy with this update because now I got all my emails working on my handset which was important to me which missed the feature for the past 6 months. The browser appears to work very smoothly in most cases. I haven't used the Tasks app yet but that is another welcome addition as I always have a need for such features on portable devices. Other positive things about Android is to thank google not Motorola anyway. The slightly improved dialer worth just mentioning about it.
If Motorola refuses to give us Gingerbread then I hope they provide an update to fix some minor issues that either annoying or impacting the user experience soon enough.
I gotta say I'm pretty surprised about all the issues people are facing with the Froyo update everywhere. I had the french update installed which was one of the first available in Europe before moving on to the leaked 2.3.3 and it was smoother than ever. No bug at all except for the space touch getting a bit crazy while typing a text a few times. I didn't have many applications installed. A few people mentioned the update's fine as long as you don't have much installed on the phone but it starts getting extremely laggy when you keep installing more and more applications. After a factory reset there shouldn't be any lags though !

Use quickpic off the market, best gallery around

QuickPic would be the best gallery app if it would let us change the grid size (the thumbnail previews are too big now) and if it had "all photos" and "all videos" views. Unfortunately QuickPic only does folders.

Thank you for your post. In my experience there was a noticeable performance difference between 2.1 and 2.2.2 before a single application was installed. One theory to why some people are happy with the performance and others are not could be down to different components used in Defy. No one knows for sure if all Defy around the globe use exactly the same components or not. As you pointed out installing apps appears to effect the performance so we can conclude those that are not experiencing performance decrease are not power users.

I am confused, all my photos and videos are in folders anyway and all the previews load like lightning so i fail to to see the problem, it is better than any default gallery whichever way you look at it.
Anyway only issue i can find with the retail 2.2 is how low highest screen brightness setting seems to be, the display is really hard to read outside now.
If you have a hundred pictures scattered over ten folders, would you want to tap into those folders one by one to browse all your photos?
Just like there's a unified inbox for mails from many accounts so you don't have to jump from one mailbox to the next, the stock gallery has a unified pictures view (all pictures in one grid) for all your folders.
If you want to swipe through lots of pictures from a bunch of different folders, having them all in one grid beats having to open all the different folders one by one.
If QuickPic would have the same unified picture view and custom picture grid sizes I would throw the stock gallery out. While QuickPic is working on it (are they?) I'll keep both apps.
The problem with the capacitive buttons that not lighting up is worse than I thought. It happens all the time, it doesn't light up and the only way to make it to work, when it gets really bad, by locking the phone (power switch) and unlocking it again.
The battery life noticeably shortened after the update. What I have done today was to completely discharge the battery to the point it doesn't turn on. Recharged it fully again without turning it on and from the wall socket. I'll report back if there was any improvements on Monday.
I also uninstalled VSel and set it to default CPU speed again. Despite of freezing so many apps and services the start up is really slow and I really feel the lag with the phone.
Another Defy/Froyo bug:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* to get into a service menu. From there battery_history/network_usage would tell you network traffic per app since last boot/unplugged/all time.
In Eclair all data was counted. In Froyo it usually doesn't count anything.

[Q&A] Ask a Developer your Ouya Questions

I backed Ouya on Kickstarter, and mine finally arrived today. There have been a lot of questions, a lot of speculation, and not many answers. I will personally be attempting to install a 3'rd party launcher, Google Play apps (store, music, movies) and other games and apps I have bought over the years on the Play Store. The point of this topic is for other people who are interested in buying one or have pre-ordered one to get answers to their questions, like I couldn't.
I have been an Android user since the original Motorola Droid on Verizon, and a Custom ROM Developer for the Samsung Fascinate, HTC Thunderbolt, and Droid Bionic. I will be working on a custom ROM for the Ouya as well once we get some reasonable safety measures to ensure I don't brick it while experimenting. Feel free to ask me anything, about app compatibility, features, user interface, whatever, I'll do my best to answer. I'll also keep this topic updated with my observations and experiences with hacking and modding this console.
Since I've already gone through the trouble of tracking down working apps I figured I'd save everyone else a few minutes and collect the working ones here:
How to install: From your Ouya browser click the link for any apk's you want to download. once the downloads have completed go to: Manage > System > Advanced > Storage > Downloads and select the apk files one by one.
Netflix: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/Netflix_2.1.2 build 787.apk I had audio issues on some shows until I rebooted, and an occasional freeze, but just hold down the "ouya" button on the controller to back out to home and open it up again.
Hulu Plus: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/Hulu Plus 2.6.201000.apk Seems to be working great!
Youtube: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.google.android.youtube.googletv-2.apk Works great.
Nova Launcher: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.teslacoilsw.launcher-1.apk Works great and opens up additional options in the settings menu. I choose to use this as the default launcher, since I can still access all my ouya games, and the ouya home from it much quicker than from ouya home.
Dropbox: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.dropbox.android-2.apk Works great with the controller, I use it to copy apps from my computer or phone easily.
Amazon App Store: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.amazon.venezia-2.apk Installed, logged in, and downloaded Angry birds, which didn't work so well.... Well, I mean it worked great, but was very difficult to play with the ouya controller. Time to hook up a bluetooth mouse. EDIT: after the initial time working so well, I cannot get it to work again. the main page opens but any app I click on it just brings up a blank screen. If anyone else experiences this please let me know...
XBMC: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...f76-Gotham_alpha2_stagefright-armeabi-v7a.apk This is the latest XBMC build with hardware decoding. I didn't try any local/network video yet, but the streaming video from break.com looked fine.
Pandora: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.pandora.android-1.apk Works great, but since it's the Android interface you'll have on screen adds unless you pay for prime, and the "X" to close it is very tiny. However on the plus side if you go to Settings > Developer Options > Uncheck Don't keep activities Pandora can run in the background with a 3rd party launcher. So right now I'm listening to Whitesnake and installing the next app on my list to check tonight.
Flixter: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/net.flixster.android-1.apk Works, but not always. Final Destination 5 kept freezing at the same point every time, but I watched several minutes of The Dark Knight Rises on wifi and the quality was good and I had no issues.
Chrome: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7653846/apps/com.android.chrome-1.apk Works great, but due to lack of gapps framework you can't sign in, so no tab/bookmark syncing yet.
Non-working/Glitchy:
Facebook - Installed, logged in with no problem, but the interface is far to large to use. Imagine pictures that are 2 - 3 times larger than the screen, with tiny text and you'll get the idea. plus it crashed for no reason....
Twitter - Installed, could not log on. Got the error "Cannot create account" when trying to log in.
SuperSu - Installed, but once inside it said SU needed an update, and installation of that update failed.
Commenting to subscribe to the thread, excited to hear your plans and glad to see a bit more action around here.
I would suggest talking with Rayman ( posted the OTA download thread) he's also working on some development for it and I know we wanted to get some dumps from another ouya to confirm some things.
Definitely looking forward to the comments here. I received my Ouya today and excited to see what it can do.

I'm certainly no developer, but I've had the same results regarding the play store, for what its worth. I have superuser installed and working. I attempted to use a similar method to getting the play store on the Kindle Fire, with no luck.
Has anyone dabbled with xbmc yet?
If so how is it performing?

I played around with it a little. I was able to stream in HD from icefilms with no major problems. The most glaring issue that I saw was if you have a video playing, and decide to pull up the menu, it can be pretty sluggish. I only played with it for about 10 minutes or so, though.
Ok, time for another update. I'm very pleased with the graphics and performance of the console for the games that are available. Puddle THD looks amazing on the big screen, and aside from the camera issues it always had, I'm loving playing Mario 64 with a wireless controller using Mupen 64.
Back on the hacking side, I was able to sideload Nova Launcher successfully, and it opens up a lot of extra options in the settings menu, but I haven't had time to play with them yet. I was with family from out of town all weekend, but I'll be back home tonight and really try to crack this box open. I'll try XBMC myself tonight, are there any other apps anyone would like me to try loading?

XBMC works great, but make sure to install the experimental "libstagefright" build for hardware acceleration support. If you could figure out Hulu that would be awesome, someone reported tweaking the APK a bit to get it working but never revealed what they did.
Yeah, I saw his post about it, with no followup. Hopefully the logcat will give me some insight into why it's crashing. It's a shame Ouya removed so much of the android framework that these apps rely on. I wonder if there will ever be an official Ouya release for some of these programs...

Well XBMC and OUYA both promise one for XBMC at least, and I read that they're in talks to have Hulu and Netflix officially supported as well. I imagine it'll all depend on how the reaction at launch goes.
It would be really nice, but given streaming media providers attitude toward root users I wouldn't be surprised if they refused to play nice. I still can't watch an Ultraviolet movie on my Nexus 7 without temp unrooting it...
For Hulu, find the Hulu for Google tv apk, I found it online.

Thank you! I saw that on an Ouyaforums thread and was going to try it tonight? how well does it work? I also saw somewhere that youtube for google tv works on the ouya as well, can anyone confirm that? I'll gather the apks together tonight, re-host them, and put some links in the OP.

Thanks! Hulu is working great.
Bluetooth not working
My controller and console work but the bluetooth on my console does not want to turn on so it just constantly tries to turn on so my controller can never connect.
Any help?
Do you have a usb keyboard and mouse to navigate with? if so I'd suggest going to the advanced settings menu (stock android settings) and try turning bluetooth on there. If you've already tried that and it doesn't work, your issue can be hardware or software. If it's hardware you're way past what I can help with, but if it's software these steps might work. Go to backup and reset under the same settings menu and do a factory reset. If that doesn't work the final step would be to follow the instructions to flash the latest ota software update through recovery. His instructions say to reboot and hit a key combination repeatedly to get recovery up, but if you have adb access you can just type "adb reboot recovery" in your terminal window and it will boot there directly.
Here's the link, good luck:

Thanks to MBM for the instructions, and Rayman for hosting the OTA downloads.
*disclaimer* I haven't tried this myself yet, but plan to tonight if you'd rather wait for a confirmation. Honestly though MBM has been working on the Ouya a lot longer than I have and his instructions line up with what I've done on other android devices. /*disclaimer*
one note about hulu plus. THe app you posted here 2.6 does not have options for keyboard control (which was indroduced in 2.8, the latest version.) for use with the controller, keyboards etc I have a copy of the apk which i will upload as soon as I have 10 posts and can post links (almost there haha). WHen I installed 2.8 by it self, it force closed but i was able to get it working by installing 2.6 from your post and then upgrading.
