Press and Hold the Volume Down key and then Press and Hold the Power key until the white HBOOT screen comes up.

boot to recovery
Yep - do it like above posting says: BUT, if it doesn't work,
remove battery and retry. Success.

Also, go into Settings -> Applications and make sure the the Fast Boot checkbox is NOT checked. That will prevent you from getting to the HBOOT screen using this method.

Yea it worked. And yes....my s is s-on couldn't hurt tryin lol

[Q] How to know my current HBOOT version?

Hi all, I'm an android newbie. How can I know/read my current hboot version?
Thanks,
Maurizio
When the phone is off, hold the volume down button and while holding press the power button. You will see a white screen and up the top you should see your hboot version. To exit, press the power button to select fast boot and then use the volume down to select reboot
thanks I need it

Under settings > applications > remove tick right of fastboot.
Turn off, and then you hold vol- press power, still holding vol-, let go of buttons as you se the white screen. Use volume button to navigate and power button to select.

You have fast boot enabled. Either disable it under settings>applications before powering off and power on while pressing the vol down button. Or you can power off the phone, remove and reinsert the battery and power on the phone while pressing vol down. You will arrive at a white screen. 1st line tells you the HBoot version.
probably silly question, but - i've rooted my desire with unrevoked, s-offed with alpharev, my h-boot is still 0.93.0001.
Does it mean I'm still on stock h-boot? Or the other way, if I'd have cm7 or other one, would it be clearly stated in my phone's bootloader?

Yes. If you are on stock hboot, the first line in the bootloader will say 'Alpharev'. If you are on say, CM7r2 hboot it will say 'Alpharev CM7r2'

[Q] 3 vibrations on start up to recovery ?

what causes that i have to remove batt using gingersense 2.3.3
I'm not sure about 3 series of vibrations, but it is normal for the device to vibrate when booting or rebooting into recovery. Is it preventing you from achieving something? What do you mean when you state that you have to remove batt when using Gingersense 2.3.3?

In his broken down engrish, I think he's trying to say he has to remove the battery to get it to start over.

Oh okay. Thank you. In that case, he or she needs to either reflash the recovery and/or reflash the rom. After a full wipe, of course.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
I think what's happening might be volume up + power = diagnostic mode (correct me if I'm wrong about what that's called), instead of volume down + power = bootloader. I did that one time when I wasn't paying attention, and was all wtf? You have to pull the battery or there's no response.
If this is the case, you need to do vol down + power to get to the bootloader, then use the volume down button to highlight recovery. Power to select. This will properly take you to recovery.

You're holding volume down and power right? Not volume up and power, as has already been mentioned? Also, I'm not sure which gingersense rom you're on, but some of them have a 'fastboot' option. That selection is in menu>settings>applications. Be sure it's unchecked. If that box for fastboot is checked, the phone doesn't actually shut off. WHen you turn it off, it just 'hibernates', so it can be powered on extremely quick. If the phone is hibernating, in 'fastboot' mode, and isn't really off...then holding power and volume down will not get you to the bootloader. You must first uncheck the 'fastboot' box. Although, even if fastboot is enabled, and you hold power and volume down, it should not give you 3 vibrations, which is what leads me to believe that the other guys are correct, and you may accidentally be doing power and volume up.
i think you guys are correct.. i was using mikg.
volume up is what it was.. but why does it do that ?????
is it diagnostic mode did i mess my phone up ???
Thanks all you guys once again sorry about the OP lol

Diagnostic mode shouldn't do anything to damage your phone, as far as I know.

[Q]superwipe then restart, now bricked?

I am going to install a new rom, so i superwipe all the things, then when I should choose a new rom to install, I accidentially press the "reboot system". Sign,.....now the phone is bricked? I can't go into the bootloader by pressing the vol down and power.
Even I hold the power button for ten seconds, it just power off and the power on automatically and stay at the htc white screen.
what can i do?
THX.

No, hold power for 10 seconds to force a reboot. As soon as your phone powers down, press and hold vol down, keep holding and you should enter hboot. It might take a couple of attempts to get it right.

Spot on keep trying we have all been there don't give up you will eventually get into fastboot
How do people not know the basics?? This is simple stuff
Cos they don't read. Although I remember when I first got my desire a couple of years ago, and rooted it, I was crapping myself that I might be killing it, esp as revolutionary and cwm didn't work with the erase size of 40000 I had on mine, (too late, flashed it) oops.. But that didn't stop me reading and searching, all the info is out there people, what ever you do has most likely been done a million times before. (and fixed).

^^^^This.
Only assume your phone is bricked if you can't turn it on, or the bootloader gives you a critical error

Well mine won't turn on, battery is dead, and when I'm able to enter bootloader to check battery voltage I'm not able to charge it beyond 3543 volts or something.
Sometimes the bootloader gives weird errore like memory addresses or denied or something.
What can I do then?
The notification led blinks red sometimes, it never stays permanent red. And the sd sometimes fails as well, when I manage to enter recovery (which is not really often)

Press and hold the power button. Once the screen goes off press AND HOLD the volume down button and it'll boot into HBOOT. Then press power once to get into FASTBOOT (or select recovery to go into CWM)

Hi, thanks for your reply. The problem actually is I cannot get into HBOOT. I've tried about 50 times, the only thing which displays is the brilliant HTC logo screen. I notice when I hold the powerbutton the softkeys are flashing 6 times before it goes black... When it goes black i'll press and HOLD the VOL DOWN key, but still no hboot

Keep pressing power button+volume down untill it gets into bootloader.
Don't let go at any point.
Just hold them pushed TOGETHER for as long as it takes. You WILL get into bootloader or else I'm afraid something is broken...

Is this problem called as 'bricked'..?? oh..come on..

Can't boot into HBOOT

I haven't done this for a while but used to do this 100s of times.
I have a stock HTC rom installed without root. It is an experimental version of 2.3 that was never released.
I'm holding down the volume down button and pressing power. When I release the power button it boots normally into standard home screen.
I tried with the back button and the same thing happens.
Has anyone ran across the same problem?
Is there anyway I can boot into HBOOT without the volume down button and no root? Any apps which might help me to do that?
Thanks
afaik you press and HOLD those two buttons until the phone goes on.
Your volume down might have become faulty.
To go to fast boot mode press and hold "back key" while power up. From there press power key once more to go into hboot mode.
Regards

I think the volume down button works because when the phone is on i can control the call volume using this button. I also tried the back key to boot into fast boot but that doesn't work.
I hold the two buttons indefinitely. It's only when I release the power buttons that the phone starts booting but always boots into normal mode.
Any other ideas? thanks.
Lol try hold volume up + power

Awww damn!
I guess the only other thing I could try is to flash a different RUU.
Does anyone have a link to the stock Froyo RUU? Would flashing it over a stock GB rom work or wuold it complain that the HBOOT version is different?

I want to install an ICS Rom. So I need to root.
To root I need to install the custom HBOOT drivers otherwise unrevoked doesn't pick up the device.
In order to install the custom HBOOT drivers I need to be in HBOOT with USB connected. Is there any other way?
K, does ur volume buttons work when phone is booted? If so, turn off the phone then pull the battery out for 10- 15 seconds then put back in, then press and hold volume down and press power button (while holding vol down) it should boot bootloader
Also make sure in
settings/power
That fast boot is not checked (if u got that option)

Wicked! Thanks!
Removing the battery made the difference. It seems that I have to remove the battery every time after power down or when I powers up it skips HBOOT. Nonetheless it works!

Hahaha you did it in the wrong way...
first... you need to hold down power + volume up button..
release power button after your phone vibrates two times (but still hold volume up button)
once you see "ASUS" boot up, realese the volume up button...
after that you will see fastboot gui where you can see "NORMAL BOOT" click volume down until you see "REVOVERY MODE" then click power button..
after that your phone will reboot and you'll see sleeping robot and ERROR message, if you see that just click volume up button then power button (you need to do it fast) then release power button, keep trying until you enter the recovery mode (volume up, power button, realese power button)
hope this will help you

I think after unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery and kernel would make life so much simpler.
You'd think that, yes but as the expression goes, "you make plans and life happens"...
Besides, if everything went right Murphy would be out of a job... (if that is a bit cryptic it refers to Murphy's Law - "What can go wrong will go wrong", I like to add the amendment, "at the worst possible time"...)
It's a bit poetic I think...
